    Hi Michel,
Could you please let me know what version of Safari browser are you using.
If you are using an older version, then there might be an old Acrobat plug-in "NPAPI" installed that might be causing an interruption.
Close Safari, use spotlight search by typing NPAPI and click on show in Finder.
Now, in the list that appears simply remove any file that shows npapi plugin word in it.
    Restart Safari and then check.
Let me know if this works.
    Regards,
    Anubha

  • How do I open desktop .pdfs in Preview but in-line (Web) .pdfs in Safari?

    Hi, all-
I've got Safari 6 and Mountain Lion, and I like being able to view .pdf files on the Web in Safari, for example, they open in a new tab. However, I also have a lot of .pdfs on my desktop. I want those to open in Preview. What happens now is that when I double-click one, Safari launches, and the .pdf opens there. Then I have to click on the "Open in Preview" button at the bottom of the screen.
I have tried changing the "Open with" selection (in a .pdf Info window) to Preview, and I've clicked the Change All button. But then, everything opens in Preview (I guess as you'd suspect). So, when I click a link to a .pdf on a Web site, instead of nicely opening in a new tab in Safari, it opens in Preview.
To make matters more complicated, when I have gone back and changed the "Open with" option to Safari, then everything opens in Safari, including when I click on the "Open in Preview" button. In other words, when I see a .pdf in Safari, and then I click "Open in Preview," all it does is it opens another tab in Safari and displays the file there. It's either all or nothing.
All I want to be able to do is have .pdfs that are on my desktop open in Preview, and .pdfs that are linked to Web sites open in Safari. Is there any way to do this?

Please search the plugins page for the term "PDF". You should find this:
    WebKit built-in PDF
    MIME Type
    Description
    Extensions
    application/pdf
    Portable Document Format
    pdf
If you find any other instances, post them.

  • I'm trying to open a PDF from Safari with iBooks, but when I choose "Open with ..." in Safari, only Pages and Dropbox show as options.  I'm running iOS 7.1.2 and iBooks 3.2.  Thanks for any ideas!

On my iPad, I'm trying to open a PDF from Safari with iBooks, but when I choose "Open with ..." in Safari, only Pages and Dropbox show as options.  I'm running iOS 7.1.2 and iBooks 3.2.  I have rebooted the iPad and that did not help, and reinstalled iBooks, which also changed nothing.  Thanks for any ideas!

Yup, it was uploaded to our school Wiki as a PDF, and Pages did open it.  I was then able to move it to iBooks, but I'd rather avoid the extra steps.

  • SYSTEM CRASH with 'Save As PDF' in Safari

Since installing 10.6.4 my MacBook crashes whenever I attempt to "Save as PDF" in Safari. I am unable to force quit Safari or use any other application as the spinning beachball of death works its magic. I removed Safari 5 and replaced it with Safari 4.05 (using Time Machine) but this has no effect. All I can do is a hard reset to get my MacBook back from the abyss. I've just tried 'Save As PDF' from a Pages document and this worked fine.
    Any ideas?

First thing I would do if I were you is find your Snow Leopard installer DVD, boot from it, and when you get to the point where there is a menubar across the top of your screen, go into Utilities and run Disk Utility's Repair Volume option. If errors, run it over and over until no more "file system was modified" messages are reported. Then run the Repair Permissions option. That one reports errors that never go away so don't worry so much about them. Then reboot, and google "10.6.4 combo update." Download the combo update and reapply it.
No Sno installer DVD? Then boot while holding down the ⌘s keys. When you get to a user prompt, type fsck -fy and run it over and over until you get no more "file system was modified" messages. Then type exit so the computer reboots. You can continue with the repair permissions and combo update bit after the computer has rebooted into GUI mode.

  • Only headers and footers appear attempting to print PDFs in Safari 5.0.2

I am a Mac user trying to help my friend, who uses Safari 5.0.2 on his PC. He can open PDFs within Safari, but when he attempts to print them, all that appears are headers and footers (same thing appears in Print Preview).
    Any suggestions?

One thing that might be worth a try is uninstalling and then reinstalling his Adobe Reader, Don. (The theory is that that should swap out the nppdf32.dll file governing the Adobe PDF plugin used by Safari.)
Any better printing performance following the Reader reinstall?

  • Opening a pdf in safari just gives me a blank page

    hi all,
when i try to open a pdf in safari it just opens a blank page. from the docs its supposed to open the pdf inline as part of safari but this doesn't work for me
is there a setting i need to adjust to make this happen?
    i'm running safari 2.0.3 on tiger 10.4.5 with a 6month old powerbook.
    thx for any advice!!

    Hello S Butler,
    Welcome to Discussions!
See if any of this helps you below.
Also did you use the combo up-date for 10.4.5? Because this version
corrects things in Safari that the stand alone does not.
Did you repair premissions before and after the up-date?
Did you turn off your firewall?
Safari: PDFs now open directly in Safari instead of in Preview
When using the latest version of Safari with Mac OS X 10.4 "Tiger," PDF links that you click will now open directly in the Safari window for your viewing convenience. Before Tiger, PDFs would open in Preview.
If you still prefer Preview, simply Control-click the PDF link (or right click on a two-button mouse) and choose Download Linked File from the shortcut menu. Once the file is on your desktop, double-click it to open in Preview.
    Notes:
In addition to Control-clicking the link and selecting Download Linked File as described above, you also have the choice of using Option-click on the link to shortcut the process even further.
If you do open a PDF in a Safari window, you can Control-click on the PDF itself and choose Open with Preview.
Due to certain server configurations, some PDFs will still download to your desktop instead of opening in a Safari window.
If you use a third-party PDF plug-in for Safari, it will block Safari's built-in PDF support.
Please let us know if anything works for you.

  • Opening a pdf in safari

Why is it that everytime I open a pdf in safari it has to ask me what to open it with? Isn't there a way to choose a program to always open pdfs? I'm pretty my friend doesn't have this problem on his imac

Safari already has the ability to display PDF files in the browser; no need for Acrobat Reader at all. To cure this problem, do this:
    1. Quit Safari, open Acrobat Reader and choose Preferences > Internet. Uncheck the checkbox at the top where it says "Display PDFs in browser using:", then quit Acrobat Reader.
    2. Go to HD/Library/Internet Plugins and remove the plugin for Adobe Acrobat (I forget the exact name, but there should only be one there with Adobe in the name).
    3. Copy and paste the line below into Terminal and press Enter:
*defaults write com.apple.Safari WebKitOmitPDFSupport -bool false*
then quit Terminal, logout and login again, open Safari and try dragging any PDF file that's currently on your Mac into an open Safari window; it should display perfectly and that will resolve your problem.

  • Adobe Reader will not open embedded PDFs in Safari with Yosemite

Adobe Reader will not open embedded PDFs in Safari with Yosemite installed

That looks like a perfectly good PDF, but since it's trying to open in Microsoft Word, that means your file association for .pdf files is incorrect.  You should change it to point to Adobe Reader instead of Word.

  • Open pdf in safari using: ACROBAT 9 PRO

    Hi,
I am using safari 4.0.3 and Acrobat Pro 9 10.4.3. When I click a pdf file in safari, it opened with it default pdf viewer. However, I want to use acrobat to view pdf (in safari).
Here are the solutions I've tried:
    1 Acrobat->Preference-> Internet->Display PDF in browser using-> Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.1.3
2 Acrobat->Help->Repair Acrobat Installation->adobe PDFViewer Safari Plugin->Continue then it says successfully installed
    3 Safari->Help->Installed Plug-ins. I can NOT find acrobat/pdf plugin
    4 Library/Internet Plug-Ins: I CAN find AdobePDFViewer.pugin
    5 Users/My name/LIbrary/Internet Plug-Ins: I CAN ALSO find AdobePDFViewer.pugin
6 When I open a pdf on my computer, it runs Acrobat 9
    NONE OF THESE ABove WORKS.
Could anyone please give me some suggestions?

I would guess that Acrobat Pro isn't compatible with Safri 4.0.3 yet, and perhaps even 10.6, but only Adobe really knows, so you'd be better off asking them. If it's not, I'm sure they'll release a patch or update of some kind after 10.6 ships.
If I were you, I'd uninstall the portion of Acrobat that normally works with Safari to render PDF files and use the built-in rendering abilit of Safari itself. Not only is that simpler, but Acrobat Pro is a huge memory hog.

  • PDFs in Safari

    Hi all.
I really love the feature of Safari of opening PDFs right inside the Browser windows. I was happy, when Apple integrated that a few Releases back.
Now I had to install Adobe Reader 7.0 (formerly known as Acrobat Reader) for some reason. Which hacked itself into my system, so PDFs would now be opened with Adobe Reader, even from within Safari.
Ok - I don't need Adobe Reader anymore. So I deinstalled it (or: deleted the folder from the application directory) and hoped everything worked like before.... But no!
I still can't view PDFs in Safari. It just opens a blank page. The only way now is to save the link to my desktop, and then doubleclick to launch preview. But I just want it to open in Safari...
Looked everywhere for a preference button, but couldn't find anything.
Do I have to configure this in the terminal?
    Please help.
    Thanks
    Dirk

Do I have to configure this in the terminal?
No, quit Safari and just go to Your HD/Library/Internet Plug-ins/ and remove or trash the "AdobePDFViewer.plugin".
Open Safari and a .pdf and it should now open with Preview in a Safari/Browser window.

  • Can't zoom PDFs in Safari nor open in preview

The Toolbar referenced by Apple help below no longer appears after the last update to Safari:
    View PDF files
When you click a link on a webpage for a PDF file, Safari displays the PDF in your browser window and provides a toolbar to help you view the file.
Open Safari if it is not already open, and go to the PDF page you want to view.Open Safari
To see a toolbar, move the pointer to the bottom-center of the page. If you move the pointer away from the toolbar, it disappears after a moment. The toolbar has four buttons. Point to each button to see what it does.
To change the font size, click the “Zoom in” and “Zoom out” buttons.
To view the PDF file in Preview, click the “Open PDF in Preview” button. After Preview opens, choose Help > Preview Help for more information about viewing PDF files.
To save the PDF file on your hard disk, click the “Save PDF to download folder” button.

I just updated my grandfather's computer (probably 10.6... I forget), and now he's experiencing the same thing.  Interestingly, if I go to a test PDF found randomly on the web, it opens and shows the 4-button toolbar.  But when we open one of the PDFs from his TD Ameritrade account, they open with no toolbar (and none to be awakened by moving the mouse down bottom center).
I question the value of opening PDFs in Safari at all when there's a great Preview readily available, but I put that on a different post.
