AFP 10.1 freezes in IE8

Hello there,
I usually do not post anything (like to solve my own problems)but i am out of my options:
My problem is that I am running IE 8 32 bit on Win 7 64 bit OS. Well till few weeks ago It worked just fine till I installed AFP 10,1,82,76.
Well on most pages It plays Adobe content but often it seems to frees my Browser.
Well now the only way to repair it is to kill IE8 en restart my PC. This because ones I killed IE8 nor my Win. media player nor my Skype won't work?
I simply can reproduce the problem going to www.chatroulette.com or even doing Facebook game.
So What did I try:
Looking at lot of forum’s and try a many hints like deleting MS KB976749 update.
Reinstalling AFP en installing it again. Even whit uninstall_flash_player.exe!
Deleting Skype from my system en following all hints given on support site van adobe.
Well my last chance to solve this irritant (in my opinion) AFP bug is calling you guys for help.
For example Does any of you know how to enable logging on AFP 10,1,82,76? It would be a start :-)
Thanks in advance...

Hi, ok. I read that link, but the mms.cfg is for developers and not for use on your system. Go to it and right click on it, and delete any files that are in there and then delete for folder. Reboot(restart) your computer.
I think it would be a good idea to Uninstall Flash Player completely, then Install for IE and also Safari.
On this Troubleshooting Guide it gives directions for Uninstalling Flash Player and then look for the section on Manual Installers. There is a link for IE and one for other non-IE Installers, which includes Safari.
Before you run the Uninstaller, disable any appplications that user Flash in the system tray(area near the clock) like yahoo messenger or any of those. Then close all browsers except the one you are using.
After you run the Uninstaller, then Reboot your computer. Then Reboot again, to make sure all old files are removed. Then Run the Installer for IE, then the other Installer. When that is finished, then Reboot Once.
Then go and check your Flash folder and post back the files listed. The NPSWF files, you will need to right click on and then click on Properties to obtain the version numbers.
Let me know if you have any questions.

The 9/27/10 update you are speaking of is a hotfix for a Security Issue.

  • Flash Player is freezing at Ie8...

firefox works fine but  at İe8 I use the latest flash player but it freezes all time, I tried at another computer (at ie)it works fine but an update comes and I updated flash player and it starts to freeze how can I solve this problem, can I use older plug-ins for flash player, I also tried archieved ones older flash players but they didn't work...

Hi, thanks. On your XP/SP3 with IE8: Using IE, find your Manage add ons (All add ons) and look for Shockwave Flash Object...ActiveX Control...Flash10e.ocx. This is the Flash Player version 10.0.45.2. Make sure it is enabled.
On this same computer, use Firefox and find the plug-in SWF version 10.0.45.2 and make sure it is enabled.
If this is the only website that you are having problems with and the above information is correct, then it could be the website has not updated. However, since Flash Player updated with this version in February, 2010, and the website has not updated by now it is hard to tell if or when they will.
You could contact them and ask them if their site supports Flash Player version 10.0.45.2 and see if you receive an answer.
Let me know about the above.

  • Acrobat 9.3 standard and IE8 printing freezes

I can't believe this is still an issue...its been a known problem since end of last year at least (IE 8 came out in Mar 09?). It freezes my computer such that I have to POWER OFF!!!! I am NOT looking forward to the first time this happens with a user.
Older version of acrobat same web page on IE8 works ok.
Has anyone else encountered this and have a workaround for IE8? How do I open or look at issues?
My users are general....they are most likely to have IE and mostly hopefully doing their autoupdates to ie8. Perhaps they're not as likely to have Acrobat 9 (as opposed to older)...but this is such a bad thing to happen...

Unfortunately, updating is not an option.  The person cannot update Acrobat because it would violate organizational policy.  He is locked in to Acrobat 9.3.1 for the foreseeable future.  What other options are available?

  • Acrobat 9 Pro freezes at the attempt to print from IE8

    Hi,
I have reoccurring problem with printing to PDF using Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.1.2 (apparently the newest) from various IE8 web pages. Every now and than the little window showing the progress of printing just freezes and the only way to get forward is to end process (using Task Manager) of the printing (adobe) and IE8, (which gets stuck at the same time as well).
Just few minutes ago I just tried to do the same on Equity Thought website from my account and it repeated the same trouble.
I have cleared all temp files and rebooted and tried again, this time switching IE8 to compatibility mode prior, and result is the same. New Adobe Acrobat is failing to print to PDF from some websites and I am unable to find solution on my own.
I have browsed Interent and it appers I am not alone in this problem. IE8 seems to provide a lot of trouible to users of Adobe Acrobat software. However I was unable to find any solution for my case.
On the other PC, where I have still Acrobat Pro 7.1.0 I do not have any problem with printing to PDF. IE8 does not need to be in compatibility mode for this.
Both PC are on Win XP pro with SP3.
So I would assume this is not MS software problem but Adobe.
    Therefore my query is:
Is anyone familiar with this type of problem and knows where to look for solution, or maybe even knows what the solution could be, please.

No, I do not think I used Adobe PDF Maker before.
I use only Adobe PDF printer that is created during the install (in my case it came with CS3).
The “freeze” happens when the little window called “creating Adobe PDF” comes on and blue progress indicator starts moving to the right. Somewhere past half way it just gets stuck and I can wait one, two, three or more minutes and nothing will happen. Hide button sometimes works and sometimes does not. In any way after that everything freezes (means Acrobat and IE8 stuff) and the only way to clean it is to use Task Manager to end processes.
I use Acrobat extensively to print from web, from AutoCAD and from all MS Office applications for last nine ten years (since Acrobat 4) and this is first time I have any trouble.
What do you mean by "new hook"?
Why would it affect Acrobat 9 and not version 7?

Previously, I can open the report in IE6 or IE7. After I upgrade to IE8, I have problem to open WD report.

  • AFP freezes at file write

    Hi there,
we have a problem with a Xserve running Mac OSX Server 10.5.4. When the users are connected via AFP and read several files, there is no problem. But if the users are writing a rather big file (i.e. 1GB) this operation is working perfect. But during the next file write, even if it is a rather small file (i.e. 20MB) the AFP daemon is crashing in such a way, that the Xserve is nearly freezing. After some time you are unable to connect to it via ssh or vnc. Once I was on the machine during such a freeze. I was unable to kill the afp daemon nor rebooting the server. I had to make a cold restart via the power button.
I hope someone has an idea. In the logs is nothing suspicious.
    Regards,
    Matthias

I'm seeing this same type of crash happening. In the logs, I'm seeing lots of these messages:
    9/29/08 9:12:19 AM com.apple.AppleFileServer[25132] MDSChannelPeerCreate: (os/kern) invalid argument
The CPU usage for AFP ramps up very high, and eventually I'm unable to RDC to the server. Only a cold reset gets it going again.
The server is only doing AFP file sharing and Time Machine backups. When turning TM backups off, the CPU usage goes way down. Are you doing TM backups?

  • AFP Clients Freeze During "Find File" Search

I've been having an issue with my 10.2.8 servers for the past 3 months. When one client begins a "Find File" search on a network volume, all of the clients connected to the server sharing that volume freeze until the search is completed. As it stands now, if I don't restart the servers each morning AFP will freeze altogether. So far I've install a fresh copy of 10.2 server on a new machine and copyed the data over but it had no effect. I've seen no errors in network utility on both the client and the server. Any Ideas on what to look for would be greatly appreciated.

Here what I got back when I tried this:
    techs01:~ techs$ sudo mdutil -i on/ZZ01ProductionServer/Hammer
We trust you have received the usual lecture from the local System
Administrator. It usually boils down to these three things:
#1) Respect the privacy of others.
    #2) Think before you type.
#3) With great power comes great responsibility.
    Password:
mdutil: unknown indexing state -- on/ZZ01ProductionServer/Hammer
    usage: mdutil -pE volume ...
mdutil can be used to manage the metadata stores used by Spotlight.
-p publish metadata for the provided volumes.
-i (on|off) set indexing status for the provided volumes.
-E erase the master copy of the metadata stores for the provided volumes.
-s print indexing status for the provided volumes.
I then tried erasing the master copy of the metadata stores (-E) and it came back with a message saying none existed.

  • AFP Freeze and Cisco VPN Client w/ new Macbook Pro

I have an Intel Core Duo Macbook Pro with all software updates installed and running Cisco VPN client v4.9.01 (0030). If I try to connect to one of my clients via VPN and then connect to one of the server shares, afp basically freezes. I have added a snip of the log below. BUT - I take the same laptop onsite and try to connect to the same server, it works like a champ. I have tried the VPN connection from multiple source points (ie, different ISPs and routers/firewalls) and wired and wireless and all result in the same. I am frustrated and running out of options. Note that the same problem occurred with the previous Cisco VPN client and I thought the newer version would fix it - id didn't. Any help would be much appreciated.

    Hi Bill,
Do you have any comparison data on services that DO work? I don't connect remotely to any Apple services so can't vouch for AFP always working, but have no issues with RDP services for Windows servers. Running 4.9.00 (0050). I have however just quickly VPN'd to a client and successfully opened an AFP share and browsed around over VPN - didn't even hesitate in establishing the connection.
When you mention taking the machine onsite i am assuming that you directly access the AFP shares and not via VPN, hence confirming that the VPN software is potentially the issue?
Are you running IPSEC over UDP or TCP? My transport is over UDP.
    Good luck,
    Justin

  • Opening pdf in IE8 Causes freeze

I'm not sure whats happened but using Adobe Reader 9.3 on my Win7 x64 desktop or my Laptop if I try to open a pdf in the browser it loads up and starts to display but then freezes IE 8.0. It's hit or miss and if I try several times it will sometimes finally open properly but the rest of the time it just freezes up IE 8 and I have to use task manager to close the browser and retry to open the file. The same files open fine using Adobe Reader so its not a problem with the files. This only started happening recently but as I said on both my laptop and my desktop computers and I'm going bald trying to solve the problem. Previously I had no issues with opening a pdf using the browser.
    Things I've tried:
    1. Using the repair feature in Acrobat Reader - No Joy
    2. Completely uninstalling/reinstalling Acrobat reader - again no joy
    3. Tried uninstalling Acrobat.com and AIR - still no joy
    4. Tried someones suggestion about adding reg key for reader/install - starting to pull hair out
Basically I'm at my wits end trying to figure out whats going on. Anyone else having the same problem/issue?

I fixed the same problem by resetting the security of all zones.
Internet options->Security->Reset all zones to default level (you might get away with doing just the Internet zone)
Close all IE instances then rerun IE.
I was then able to open the PDF listed in a Google search.
See if this works for you.

  • Freezing issues in IE8 with scorm 1.2 captivate 6.1 export in moodle 2.5

    Hi
I am working for a large commercial company where we have IE8 and a moodle 2.5, i am exporting multible scorm 2.1 packages from captivate 6.1, the issue i am having is that the scorm content loads fine, then it gets too a screen that says loading, it then just sits there, we have waited hours and it never loads, the scorm package is flash based no HTML5 as this does not work with IE8, we have tried lots of different settings i have even removed the swf from the scorm package after export, replaced with an image, and updated the IMS manifest, this worked with no problems when re-zipped and uploaded, which makes me think its the swf file.
We have all the right flash plugins and can play a uploaded SWF with no issues, so i believe it is to do with the swf in the scorm package and how it calls on the appropriate plugins to run.
my question really is has anybody found themselves in the same situation, i cannot update IE8 to a newer version as this is a site wide company policy.
i have been through lots of threads that sound similar to the issue i have had but none had resolved.
    hopefully
    somebody can help me.
    Kind Regards
    Craig Sumner

NNot tried it on scorm cloud but when it's ran on a machine from a different moodle instance and IE 10 works fine, we ran the scorm debug page on the machine as we access the scorm content on IE8 & everything loads psnd runs fine on the scorm

  • Access to AFP mount freezes task

    Hi,
I'm experiencing a really strange problem. I have three iMacs, all backing up with time Machine onto a MacMini with Mavericks Server installed.
One of those iMacs sometimes reaches a point, when it cannot finish a backup. It just stops!
When that happens, the sparsebundle cannot be used anymore because it's "still in use"
So, I repaired all permissions, checked the disk and filesystem, even re-installed mavericks from scratch. Still the same problem.
For the clean installation i created a backup with tar of the most important files on a newly created share on the mac mini server. This worked. But restoring does not. The tar just "freezes" during restore, not on the same file, every time something different.
And: when that happens, the share is not usable anymore. When trying to access is, the corresponding proccess freezes (even ls does not work).
I thought it could be a network issue. So a changed from LAN to WiFi - same error.
I'm a bit lost here. It probably is not related with an error on mac mini server, as it stores other machines without problems - logs don't show any errors that could lead to this behavior.
Network issue is probably ruled out as well, as it happens on different network devices.
Any idea what else could cause such a problem?
    thanks

Dell Vista Home Premium: had to uninstall SWP to restore IE8 functionality.
Works fine on HP Vista Home Premium.
Any ideas how to get it to work on Dell machine.  (I suspect it is not Dell related.)
    This question was solved.

Solved!   Run IE8 as Administrator and SWP runs without hanging up IE8.   You can do this routinely by right clicking IE8 shortcut->select Short Cut Tab->Select Advance button->select "Rin as administrator."
Don't understand why this is necessary, but it works.

  • Connect to Server freezes AFP client and hangs Finder

I have a brand new iMac core2duo (2GB RAM) and an older G4 iMac. Machines are running 10.4.8 (all updates applied) and 10.4.7 respectively. They're connected via Ethernet on my home network through a router.
When I first set up the Intel Mac I had no problems connecting to the G4 via Connect to Server. I could log in and mount remote volumes, etc. Now, after about a week of use, the Intel Mac AFP client hung after I logged in to the G4 and selected the remote volume to mount. The only way to cancel the operation was to Force Quit the process. Activity Monitor indicated the application as "not responding." This happened three times. I was able to connect to the Intel machine from the G4 without problem.
After two or three attempts at this, I tried simply connecting through the Network icon in a Finder window. This hung the Finder at pretty much the same point as before (after logging in and selecting a volume to access). After force quitting the Finder, the frozen window closed. However, I then decided to restart the Intel Mac "for the **** of it" to see if it would solve the AFP problem. After clicking Restart, the Desktop was cleared and the machine froze. (No kernel panic, just an empty Finder desktop with my wallpaper and a mouse cursor). I was forced to physically shut down and restart the machine.
I'd very much like to know why this is happening on a brand new machine with very little software and how to resolve it. In general both machines are manually put to sleep at night, they are not shut down.

Unlike those above, I've had the alternate problem. After being connected to a newtork share (SAMBA off an Intel MacMini) all day, I try to eject the network drive so I can go home for the night. End result is that the drive won't eject and after another try the finder hangs completely. Can't force quit...just spinning BBOD.
I have seen this behavior in 10.4.8 (not in 10.4.7) on both a 4 year old TiBook and a brand-spanking new MacBookPro 15.4". It's disturbing, because the same problem happens when you sleep your machine and wake it up elsehwere.....the finder hangs for a while trying to find the network share.
    Thoughts?

Not only can I no longer connect to other macs in my airport network, after I get the error message that the server doesn't exist or is not available (which it is since i see it running right in the next room and it is doing all the network things that it always does) then i get the spinning pizza and i have to "force quit" the finder. are you connecting to these servers by using the finder command +K and entering the IP address of the server? If not try that and see if you get the same result.

Yipes, Markrandal! So sorry to see you've been struggling with making a payment through your device. I can help but I need to find out more about what happens when you try to make payment. First, can you describe your account type. Is it prepaid or postpaid service? Can you describe what happens when you try to make the payment? Are you able to log into your account at http://bit.ly/xB4iTc without issue? If so, what happens when you try to make that payment? Is there an error message letting you know what the problem may be? You also mentioned that you have no phone service in your location. Where is it you're located?
