AFP ACEs show up as 'unknown'

We have a serious problem I can't seem to get around. We have a Mac Mini running OS X 10.4 with OD and share points. We have both Mac and Windows clients. On the Windows client, ACEs resolve correctly (however slowly mostly, but it works) but on the Mac the user and group names show up as 'unknown'. The user cannot write to files even though he/she should be able to according to the ACL. It is possible to copy files to the folder and create new files, but not edit or delete them. There are no 'deny' entries in the ACL, only 'allow'. The user is an OD user running a mobile account.
I'm stumped. Anyone?

Never mind. It seems the Mac somehow lost contact with the OD server, or corrupted the Directoy Access entry. Removing the DA entry (it complains about not finding the server and needs to be forced) and then adding the OD server again solved the problem.
Meanwhile logins, AFP connections and Kerberos was working spotlessly, which is strange if the OD connection was broken?

    Both of my Macs, an Intel Mac Mini running Snow Leopard and a G4 iMac running Tiger show up as "unknown" in my router's DHCP client table.
    All of my Windows PCs all show up with their computer names.
    Is there a way to get my Macs' computer names to show up in the DHCP client table? The router is a Linksys RTP300.

    Open Network System Preferences, click on the service you are using to connect to the network (airport, ethernet, etc), click on Advanced and go to the TCP/IP tab. There is a field for DHCP client ID. This may pass a name to the router and it may use it. I don't know.
    Another option is the WINS tab. You can set the Netbios name (other than the default) and workgroup (and any WINS servers, if you know their addresses).

  • My terminal path/name is showing up as unknown

    I changed my computer name to a single word when I first got this mbp (first one, got it a few days ago). It seemed fine but I've installed a few apps (mvim, simbl, tried to install visor) and for whatever reason, my terminal is now showing up as unknown + mac address.
    I'm not sure how to go about fixing it or if there is even a fix. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

    That is a reflection of what your DHCP server wants your host name to be. Most people just set a custom prompt that keeps the name you want.

    Make sure the Printer is installed on your machine. If the printer is not installed on your machine the paper type will come as unknown.
    After installing the printer :-
    1. select the printer in the "Select Printer" setting.
    2. In the Printer setting option click on "Change Settings" button.
    3. Select the paper in the "Paper type" dropdown list.

    Ever since I got my iPhone 3G in august my caller id for anyone outside my area shows up as unknown no phone number at all just unknown and its very very frustrating. I moved to college station texas from iowa and I changed my phone number to an texas number so I wouldnt have to deal with area code here. Now I'm regretting it.
    Ive talked to At&t and Apple numerous amounts of times. With apple I did everything they said and restarted my phone , restored, waited for software upgrade, only use edge, gone to the apple store to see what they can do and they just gave me a new iPhone.
    With At&t I've changed my sim card 4 times, had my account restarted, turned off then back on, take everything off then put back, they "sent" me "signals" to my phone to make it work. Nothing works. I might just have to get a whole new account and number but i dont want to do that. Obviously when they did the phone call test with the At&t phones it work but thats because the call directly in from att.
    Ive taken my girlfriends sim card and put it in my phone and caller id will show up. When I used my sim card in another phone caller id still came up as unknown, so obviously its an AT&T issue.
    So please anyone who can help or has the same issue please please help me. I'm about ready to just drop At&t and the iPhone 3G when I dont want to yet. Please please help

    I'm not sure if you mean that when someone calls you their info doesn't show up in your phone?
    Or, when you call someone else, your info doesn't show up in their phone?
    If it's the latter, I went through that with AT&T. There's some switch somewhere in your account that they need to set in order for your information to be sent. It took me about 30 minutes trying to explain it over and over to a customer service person. When she finally got it and made the change, within 24 hours my caller ID showed up.

    Meanwhile I solved the problem myself: the layout screen had sunk to the bottom, just had to pull it up.

    suddenly ACE module status is unknown “FSM_FT_STATE_STANDBY_COLD”, after reloading the FT worked fine , i need to know the root cause for this ?

    do a 'shut' / 'no shut' of the ft vlan interface.
    If that does not bring the interface up, check on the cat6k if FT vlan assigned to SVCLC group associated with ACE.
    You should also plan an upgrade to A2(2.4) since a similar problem was fixed.

    I did the restore from my iPhone 16 GB Generation 1.5 and iPhone OS 3.1.2 or so to the new iPhone 4 32 GB today. This was activated last night and working on AT&T's network and I was able to place and receive calls with no problem. Upon doing the restore, all the desired information was transferred and available on my new iPhone 4. However, the NO SERVICE indication was there. I turned the handset completely off and on a few times, played with the airport setting, etc. The fact that after doing this, my telephone number no longer showed up in the Settings let me know that going to an AT&T Wireless store and allowing as the post suggests to put in a new Micro SIM is what I did. Upon doing this, and while the NO SERVICE indication was not resolved, my number was again showing in the Settings and AT&T Wireless has this registered on their network.
    Calling [800 My iPhone] and speaking with a rep by the name of Dan, we began going through the troubleshooting process. Not too far in, after he instructed me to do the "Transfer Purchases ..." under File which produced no change, and as he was instructing me to do something else with iTune, mentioning the word reset, I mistook what he was instructing me to do and did a "hard reset" depressing the on/off button at the top and the home button. Right after this, the service came on and the handset is functioning with no problem.
    I hope this helps and others find that this works for them.

    I have an ipod touch 4G which is updated with iOS 5.0.1. I am trying to organize some of my music by artist names and album titles.But for some reason after i went into itunes and put in the names of some artists for their songs,the artists won't show up with their songs on my ipod.For example,there is a song on my ipod called So Forgetful by Lloyd Banks. But on my ipod the only thing that shows up is the song title.under where the album name and artist name are,it reads unknown.So I went into itunes to correct this.I edited the album to Hunger For More 2 and the artist to Lloyd Banks.But when I finished that, I went back into the ipod and the album title and artist still read unknown.this has happened for a couple of my songs.Also I haven't used itunes for some of these songs.

    I have the same problem with everything updated. This frustrates me how this can not be resolved. iTunes has so many problems with song syncing. You would think it would be resolved with the great minds at Apple but it has not. Maybe iTunes needs to be remade from the ground up again.

    A couple of our users have a problem when using user defined table types. Calls are made using UDTT as variables and these are then passed to a stored procedure as parameters. Sometimes the application returns a timeout. In such situations a Profiler-Trace

    whereas the correct trace (that is sometimes displayed) should be:
    declare @p4 dbo.ReportFilterTableType
    ReportFilterTableType is a UDTT. The users do have correct permissions for the UDTT (otherwise they would never be usable for the user). What could be the reason that the data types for the variable
    @p4 in the example are sometimes returned as unknown and at other times are returned correctly as
    ReportFilterTableType? Could this possibly be a network related issue?

    Alka, Is your problem timeouts when passing TVP parameters, or is it that a Profiler Trace shows type "unknown" for the TVP data type name?
    If your problem is timeouts, be aware that TVPs do not have statistics so the optimizer might not be able to generate an optimal plan for non-trivial queries. Declaring a primary key or unique constraint on the table type may help since that will provide
    useful cardinality information.  You may need to resort to hints in some cases.
    I suggest you start a new thread with details of your specific situation if the information in this thread doesn't help.

  • Question about ACE show Conn command (tcp duration)

    Hello,
    I was checking connections and noticed that I would see the initial connection, but after a short time the connection quits showing up in the counters and the “show conn” command. However the user is still up and working.
    This is the command I used:
    sho conn serverfarm STAGING-HTTPS detail
    The output shows all the connection info from source to destination, and in the ESTABLISHED state.
    However, after maybe 2~3 minutes, when I up arrow I don't see any connection info. The web page is still up. If I refresh the web page, I do see the connections come in.
    Can someone kindly point me to a document or provide an answer on how long should the connection be stored before they are flushed?
    Config profile:
    4 real servers
    HTTPS protocol
    Leastconn for predictor
    sticky based on src/dst IP

    If you would play with a sniffer capture, you could answer the question yourself.
    If the browser loads a flash object or a java applet, once it is loaded, you can still work on the page but there is no data transfer.
    with a sniffer tool you could see the browser closing the connections.
    The default TCP idle timeout on ACE is 1 hour.
