AFP file shares missing sub folders until re-connect?

Wondering if anyone else has seen this behavior, I found similar stuff about SMB but not AFP. Users are connectiong to an OS X 10.6.8 server file share (clients are 10.6.8 and 10.7.X), and some sub folders appear missing, the user must reconnect and they will then show up. All the people complaing have shortcuts to the shares set up in the side bar, some poeple say they didn't use the shortcut to connect. Could be a red hearring, but seems to have some connection. All the files are really still there and reconnecting to the server fixes, aside form inconvienince,  people freak out thinking someone delted everything. Nothing in the server logs seems to indicate a problem...

You could enable the AFP server access log:
sudo serveradmin settings afp:activityLog=yes
and then look at log at /Library/Logs/AppleFileService/AppleFileServiceAccess.log
to see if that offers any clues.

  • Mail in Lion:  missing sub-folders in file cabinet

After a problem with my "old" MacBook Pro, I have just bought a new one with OSX 10.7.3 Lion and Mail 5.2.  I was able to move almost everything over with the Migration Assistant and recovered almost all the remaining from my cloud backup at Carbonite.  So far so good.
However, in mail, some (not all) sub-folders in the file cabinet do not appear.  I redid the restore from Carbonite but they still do not appear.  Tried doing a rebuild of the File Cabinet and the folders within it but aparently that does nothing.
My assumption is that the are there in the folders of mboxes but, since the Library is now hidden from view, I can not look to verify if the mailboxes are there.
What do I do to get them visable?
    Thanks in advance.

    Ernie,
I have completed my recovery of the missing sub-folders.  The only change that I would make in my procedure is to not delete the mbox from the original location in the folder - because then I had to move it back from the desktop.  (Not sure what is going on here.)
    So my procedure was:
In user/Library/Mail, find the mbox that is not appearing in the Mail File Cabinet list.
Drag it onto the desktop.  (That wil be a copy.  It will remain in the Library.)
In Mail, use the Import Mailbox option to import it.
Move the imported folder or sub-folder into place - to where it should be on the list.
Delete the mbox copy from the desktop (validate).
It works.  But, in a word - UGLY!
Since nothing more elegant has been suggested and since I have recovered the folders, I am now going to give you credit for solving the problem.
    Thanks for your help.

  • AD accounts can no longer connect to Lion AFP File Shares

I am running into an issue where AD users can no longer connect to AFP file shares. If you attempt to authenticate with one of our Lion server's local accounts, you connect without any issues, but if you put network credentials in then you get the window shake denial. This issue just came up this morning. I attempted unbinding and rebinding the machine, updating from 10.7.2 to 10.7.3, removing and re-adding share point permissions, turning file sharing off then on, and still no network account authentication.
Anyone have any advice for how to get network credential authentication to AFP filesharing working again?

You could enable the AFP server access log:
    sudo serveradmin settings afp:activityLog=yes
and then look at log at /Library/Logs/AppleFileService/AppleFileServiceAccess.log
to see if that offers any clues.

  • Redirect to their corresponding index.jsp files from multiple sub folders

    Hi,
I have a doc root in the location /opt/htdocs/defaultapp, where defaultapp is the application with war file(with jsps and java code) in weblogic.
There are multiple sub folders in docroot like /opt/htdocs/defaultapp/ra, /opt/htdocs/defaultapp/info, ...etc.
ra, info has index.jsp files from weblogic but not in docroot. So, If there are 12 sub folders like this, how can I use a single <If> condition to do that.
I can also do in this way
    NameTrans fn="restart" from="/ra/" uri="/ra/index.jsp"
    NameTrans fn="restart" from="/info/" uri="/info/index.jsp"
If I don't define in the above manner, the browser is giving me the directory listing.
again I have subfolders under /ra, /info but without jsps, so when a user tries to open these folders it should return him an error page
    finally, if the user requests
    http://192.168.1.1:10000/<any-sub-folder>/ it should open http://192.168.1.1:10000/<any-sub-folder>/index.jsp
if the user requests http://192.168.1.1:10000/<any-sub-folder>/<any-sub-folder2> it should redirect to error page
    Thanks,

If /opt/htdocs/defaultapp is a Java web application being served by WebLogic then you shouldn't be configuring Sun Web Server to do the welcome file processing for directories. Instead, you should look at the welcome file configuration in WebLogic and in your web application.

  • Send email notification including file name and description, when users upload files to particular sub-folders?

In my site collection i have a document library and document library has customer folder, each Customer folder has 4 sub-folders. i want to send email notification with file name and description to group and users, if they upload any files to Particular
folder name "Final" not others 3 folders. would it possible to accomplish this solution? if yes please suggest which way i can do that.
Note: we have different groups of people, for example Team A and Team B. if files uploaded by any member of Team A, notification should sent to only Team A and specific people not Team B.
Thanks in advanced for any help!

    Hey Rakib,
You can add your group and those other people in To field of send mail activity. Have below snapshot for your reference.
If Current Item URL Contains FolderName (i.e. Final) & Is Current User a member of of Team A
    Send Email to Team A; People1; People2;
Thanks. Please mark as an answer if it helps.

  • HT4538 10.6.8 does not mount afp file share, only mounts to parent folder

This article http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4538 states that 10.6.7 and later can mount files from a url such as afp://myserver.mydomain.com/Sharepoint/Folder/File.txt
However in 10.6.8 instead of opening the file, only the parent folder is mounted.
Was this issue not truely solved or are there some files that might need to be purged ?

Maybe I don't understand how you are producing this behavior, but I can't reproduce it.
I have mounted an AFP volume. I have gone a few folders deep and created a folder X in some directory Y. I move folder X to the trash. I get the warning that it will be deleted immediately. I approve. Folder X disappears and I am still looking in folder Y (with X gone, now, of course).
I checked this in each of list view, icon view and column view, with the same result each time.
Am I not doing what you are doing?
If I am doing what you are doing, there is something peculiar about your server, I guess.

  • How do I delete file extensions on files in sub folders?

I want to delete all file extensions on the files I have in several sub folders.
If I highlight the files themselves in a folder and run "Get Selected Finder Items", then "Replace Text in Finder Item Names", then it works. However, how can I have Automator choose ALL files in ALL sub folders of a folder and then do it's magic on all those files at once?
    Thanks.

Does the Notebook software accept aliases? If so, you could rename aliases instead of the main file, so that the original extensions are preserved.
For your original question, you can use an action to get the folder contents, and adding a filter action will just give you the file names - for example:
    1) *Get Selected Finder Items*
    2) *Get Folder Contents* (repeat for each subfolder found)
    3) *Filter Finder Items* -- remove items that are folders
    4) *Replace Text in Finder Item Names*

  • Trouble with shares and access to sub folders

We're attempting to replicate our Netware configuration to a new MacOS 10.4.6 server. On Netware we where able to create a share that was available to all users, however the folders they saw within the share where governed by their access rights within the tree. For example, take the following structure:
    Data --+-- Folder1
    |
    +-- Folder2
Rights for Folder1 where assigned to Group1 and rights to Folder2 to Group2. All users in Group1 and Group2 could then mount the drive and see the folders that they where a member of.
We have attempted to replicate this on MacOS as follows:
    Data --+-- Folder1 (ACL Group1 = Read/Write)
    |
    +-- Folder2 (ACL Group2 = Read/Write)
However, when you mount Data on Mac or Windows it says you have no access rights and won't let you dig down to Folder1 or Folder2. Is there something I'm missing?

If all users in Group 1 and Group2 have access to
the root Data folder then that permission will
propogate down the tree and they will have read
access to each of the sub folders. If folders within
suddenly gain everyone RW access then they will be
able to open and see the folder.
Thanks, I've solved the problem. I needed all users to have access to the root of the 'volume' but for that not to propogate down the tree. I've found the inheritence settings and that I think has solved the problems.
You can control this by propagating permissions
downward from the top level folder. Do this:
Create a group for everyone who accesses Data called
    DataGroup.
Add DataGroup to the group list for everyone. (You
can mass select Users and add the group to everyone
    who needs it at once.)
Change the Unix group owner of the Data folder to
    DataGroup and set these permissions:
Owner: admin RW, Group: DataGroup R, Everyone: None
Open Data and set Folder1 privileges to:
Owner: admin RW, Group: Group1 RW, Everyone: None
and propagate these settings to the subfolders. Be
sure to propagate Group Ownership and Group
    Permissions and Everyone permissions.
NOTE: This is the traditional *nix way - with ACLs
you can do this and then fine-grain the control using
the ACL granting Group 1 Full Control and propagating
    that.
Now set Folder2 to Group2 etc.
This allows you access to Data (versus using staff or
some generic Unix group but those will work too) but
allows you to control who has access to the
subfolders. In this case membership in DataGroup only
grants you access to see the folders - it doesn't
even guarantee access to any of the subfolders.
If you want nested folders within Folder1 or Folder2
you can do the same thing - create a folder owned by
a specific user and set Group Read access to none and
propagate that through the subtree. Just be aware
that propagations that happen above that folder can
reverse the settings. Always set large and then get
specific. New Users are granted access to Data by
adding DataGroup and users access to folders are
granted or revoked by adding or removing the Group1,
    Group2 etc settings.
I think that once you get it set how you want and try
it you'll find that the Data folder is redundant and
is giving you unnecessary conceptual problems. If you
make the Folder1, Folder2 etc shares then after a
user authenticates they will see only the folders
they have permission to access. If I am in Group1 and
I authenticate my selection of folders will only be
folders accessible by Group1 - I will never even see
Folder2. By grouping them in Data you are adding a
layer of permissions that is probably not needed. But
everyone has their own organizational system and
sometimes it's easier to leave users with what their
used to using. (I have users that still mount Users
and navigate to their own folder even though their
user folder shows up at the login level simply
because that's the way they've always done it.)
No there are good reasons to share the Data folder and not the children below. For example, if you are on Windows clients and you wish to map the share to a drive letter you will have no way of doing this if you don't have the containing folder.
Yes, I understand with ACLs (or at least I think I
do and have setup a system that works). The problem
is that new folders get Everyone Read access. Which
ruins the effective permissions for that folder. I
need a way of making the default posix permissions
    O=RW,G=None,Everyone=None.
We have a lot of folders to deal with Folder 1 and
Folder 2 are only examples. We have about 15 or more
folders with sub folders that have differing access
rights. All this we have sorted out except the
default POSIX permissions for new folders/files.
You can change Umask default privilege settings but
    DON'T. Well, DON'T unless you're a *nix guru. It
changes the default for all created files - including
those created by the system and this can lead to
    serious problems down the road.
I don't want a whole system default change to umask I want one that works only for people connected via AFP, you would think that would be possible. Similarly I want one for SMB access also.
If you get this working you will see that despite the
POSIX settings the ACLs are working. If you really
need your Unix permissions to be set a certain way
chuck ACLs and set "Inherit from Parent Folder" in
AFP and SAMBA. With ACLs on the system will only do
    POSIX settings.
In the windows world you either use POSIX or ACLs in the mac world you use a combination of both. That can be an asset but it can also be a major problem. If only you could use the inherit setting for POSIX when ACLs where enabled it would solve all these worries.
Thanks for your time on this.

  • Sub folders and Process multiple files in Photoshop Elements 10

I am looking to apply the same adjustments to numerous images in numerous sub-folders and overwrite the original images.
Using the Process Multiple Files options,  I added the main folder (which contains no images) to the Source field, selected the Include All Subfolders tick-box, also selected the Same as Source tick-box (which warns you original files will be overwritten) and then completed the image adjustments I required.   However, after running the process all the adjusted images were saved in the main folder and did not overwrite the originals contained in each sub-folder.  Does anyone know if there is a setting I am missing to replace the images in the sub-folders or is this by design ?

    bossti a écrit:
hi, so is it possible to keep the same subfolder structure as output location? regards! bostjan
    No...
I think you are going to run great risks in trying to use batch process like 'process multiple files' or 'export' while relying on subfolder structures.
    - the organizer is much more powerful with its database and keywords management than a folder structure organization,
    - Batch processes are limited in Elements
    - 'Good practice' calls for keeping originals intact.
What are you wanting to do exactly ? We might be able to suggest alternative workflows.

  • Robohelp issues (folders & files are missing)

    Hi there,
    We're running Robohelp 7 HTML.
We have 3 users using this product. All client PCs are running Windows XP (fully patched). They access their Robohelp project/documentation on a Windows 2003 dev server (also fully patched).
Robohelp was working fine until several days ago. At this point, our users starting receiving Microsoft Visual C++ runtime errors & complained that they could no longer edit their files. Additionally, the .xpj file was missing. If it matters, there are 1774 files & 67 folders in the project. The project itself is only 38MB.
After checking the server logs, I realized that several 'old' office updates were pushed to the server the night before. After further investigation,  it looked like KB904018 was the guilty update (more info here -> http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=7497D7F0-BEF5-4054-B854-B1240B513 5F5&displaylang=en). Basically, this update removes the functionality in Access 2002 that lets users add new data to or edit existing data in a linked Microsoft Excel worksheet. Figuring that was the culprit, we uninstalled the update (normally we don't do this but it isn't a critical update).
After rebooting the server, we ran a full restore (which included the .xpj file), Robohelp started working again & everyone was happy.
Several days later however, we started receiving complaints again. This time some of the directories & files within the Robohelp project had disappeared. I've double-checked the server logs, client logs, AV settings (on server & client), etc, but I don't see anything relevant. At this point I'm not sure what to do but I'm guessing there's some kind of corruption in the project now. What should I be looking at? Any advice/suggestions are greatly appreciated.
    TIA
    Regards,
    VeetsDavis
ps: I've never worked with Robohelp before so forgive my ignorance

You mean what source control product? I am the last person to ask as I studiously avoid it.
First of all, do any of the users work on the same project at the same time? If not, then source control is not essential from that point of view. The way we work is that each day a simple backup program creates a zip  on the network while we are updating a project. When complete a clearly labelled zip is put on the network. That ensures there are good backups at all times. From time to time we trash a bunch of zips so that there is say one per month retained. We don't trust you IT guys as whenever we have asked for a backup, somehow it's going to take too long, the tape isn't available etc etc.
I would guess you don't have multiple authors on a project at any one time as without source control you would have hit problems before now.
If you must have source control, why not use the source control that comes with RH? It installs from the same CD.
Bear in mind that the author checks out files to work on them and if they do not check them back in at the end of the day, there is no backup of the topics checked out.

  • Weird issues with file share using both SMB and AFP?

I use my Xserve with 10.4 server primarily as a file server (with a huge RAID array attached via Ultra320 SCSI). I've served files from this server over SMB ("Windows" sharing) to both PCs and Macs for a few years now with no big issues. The files are being shared in a collaborative environment with extensive user accounts and ACLs set up.
I would like to turn on AFP for these same file shares, so those accessing with a Mac can have the added benefits of AFP over SMB. However, I've heard some rumors of some complicated issues developing from the use of both AFP and SMB together on the same folders, in a mixed environment.
The rumors I've heard are things that would happen rarely but enough for it to be significant. For example, a file created over SMB and then edited over AFP would have some problems being re-edited over SMB again, due to some complicated feature that the rumor is unable to explain (something with a resource fork or file locking?). Maybe something weird that just involves the Adobe Creative Suite?
Anyway, I figured I'd throw this out there. Anyone who serves files over both protocols to a varied set of computers and applications having weird issues? Or is everything working for you? Thanks in advance.

    re:crop
It's coming in as cropped with no way to fix it that I can see.
Pressing space or opening in preview shows the full image but if it gets anywhere near Photoshop it comes in auto-cropped.
I'm starting to this it's a bug and will be reporting it to Adobe.

Hi Stan, and a warm welcome to the forums!
    Depends on several things...
If the Disk Format is MS/DOS, then yes.
If it is HFS+/Mac Os Extended, then only if you have MacDrive on your PC...
