AFP going away? Not being supported

I am hereing rumors that the New Mac OS 6 will not support AFP anymore, and that other network servers such as windows and novell will not as well. Is this true?

Do you mean Mac OS X 10.6 (aka 'Snow Leopard')?
If so, you are, indeed, mistaken. AFP hasn't gone away, and there's no talk of it either - at least that I'm aware of. It's still the preferred format for network home directories.
Therefore, whatever sources you're reading/hearing from are either misleading, or you're misinterpreting what they're saying.
Maybe they're talking about AppleTalk, the old network protocol which has been defunct (or at least dying) for years. That's a whole different kettle o' fish and not related to Apple Filing Protocol (AFP). Pretty much the only AppleTalk-based devices you'll find are 1990's-era printers. Everything else moved to Ethernet years ago.

The above mentioed sleekbook was purchased in the month of february of this year. I had aoriginal windows 8 o.s which came along with the sleekbook.
within 3 months of purchase ,due to some booting problem i got my hard disk replaced by an authorized hp service centre.
before replacing the hard disk ,neither i was told to keep a backup copy of the recovery drive nor the staffs at the service centre did it.
After replacing the hard disk they suggested me to order a recovery media through the customer care,and for the temporary usage they installed a trial version of windows 8.
I have been calling the customer care and following up for seven months. it seems they dont have the recovery media for this particular model and as they have denied to deliver me the recovery media , i tried connecting through the HP support wizard online.
In the product identification segment it says that your product is not being supported by the hp support wizard anymore.
I am completely helpless. I have been facing this problem (recovery drive) from past 7 months and now my warranty is going to expire in two months .Its been only 10 months buying this product.even i'am not getting any appropriate solution for this problem from the technical support of Hp.
This is my last hope to get my issues solved.

Depending on what country the keyboard is from, there can be a set of secondary symbols on the keys (most of the time in blue) the preferred language is then chosen to match a given keyboard in the "Control Panel" under "Region and Language"
I dug around a bit and found this Arabic keyboard as an example _ it has the normal letters on it, but also some very different symbols.
If you went for a simple US keyboard then that will work fine in your machine, but you may have to change the region in the control panel as mentioned.
What ever the one you get, just make sure that the screw down posts and any tabs are in the same position. They will be very close to your original or not match at all so in most cases you can make a pretty good comparison.
Have you removed the keyboard yet, if you really want to be sure, remove it and take some digital photos of the underside and top side and post them here ?
Then I can tell you for sure if a given keyboard will fit.

There is no 15 series list for the Sleekbook, just for the 14 series, but the procedure to remove the keyboard looks the same.

We have rolled out a fix for this issue.
Please log off and log back in to your machine and the issue should be resolved automatically. In case that does not work, please manually run the msi installer posted here (may require reboot).

Exactly the same problem.Restore to factory settings don't fix the problem.
In the screen menu (without starting) can read the external sd ; definitely something be wrong with the upgrade.

They stick around because that's a record of your purchases. You can, from iTunes on your computer, hide purchases. You can't unpurchase them, though.

IPod Composite AV cable is not being recognized

Hey there,
I bought an "Networx iPod Composite AV cable" (for Ipod touch 2G) at a Gravis store (certified retailer).
Now, ever since I bought the new software (3.0) and updated Itunes to 9.x this cable will only allow me to to charge the Ipod, however it is not being recognized in Itunes.
I have read that some cables do not contain a specific chip that authorizes the connection between the Ipod and Itunes. However, before I paid for the software update, it was still working and when buying the update Apple did not provide any information about third party cables (which comes from a certified reseller) not being supported anymore.
Is there a way of fixing this? I have already reset the Ipod, yet that did not change anything.
Do I need to jailbreak it to make it work?

the issuer has issued the cert for now, but says will no longer support it when it expires.
Additionally, I thought the whole point of purchasing a 3rd party cert was that the clients would already trust it and not need to run the certutil to import the cert. Right now, i'm getting a GetDP error saying IP address not found, but I can actually
go to my server on the Internet. It then gives me a Cert error saying not trusted. I will try the certuil.exe and see if that resolves the issue, but the expiration and it not being supported after that is something I will need to dig further.

When I tap a photo in my iPhone photo gallery, the photo appears but there is always a "this movie format not supported" alert and then the alert goes away and the photo appears. These are photos I've taken with the iPhone and aren't even movies.

It's very odd. I take photos with my iPhone and then later go to view the photos in the Photo Gallery on my iPhone. The photos to appear, but I keep getting "this movie format not supported" alerts, even though I am looking at photos taken by my iPhone. The alert appears briefly just after the photo appears and then the alert goes away and I can see the photo. They are just still photos and not movies. Why wouldn't the iPhone recognize the format of photos it is taking?

That thread helped for a time. But now it seems as though my computer is back to slow again. But, some of the jargon is over my head as well. Not sure I knew quoite everything they were talking about. But thanks a lot for that, it helped I probably just need to reread it and follow the instructions again. Thanks so much.

Just to add this : iWeb -- the app itself -- is still supported,updated only months ago and as part of the ilife '11 DVDs still widely spread even though it is not sold on the AppStore it is official part of iLife. It runs in Lion and there is zero issues with the app. So a training makes sense, doesn't it ?.
They would only to exclude the "publish to me.com" part to be up to date for courses and trainings :-≠

Is support for iWeb going away with MobileMe?

Is online support going away for iWeb? Do I need to go with a third party server now that MobileMe is dead? What server is the least obtrusive?

What version of iWeb were you using? V2 let you publish to MobileMe or a folder on the Dekstop (where it coulb be uploaded to an ftp server) and V3 had options for publishing directly to MMe, an ftp server or a folder on the Desktop.
That being said it is now is apparent that iWeb, and iDVD, will no longer be supported by Apple. This is evidenced by the fact that new Macs are shipping with iLife 11 installed but without iWeb and iDVD. iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:
Features No Longer Available Once MobileMe is Discontinued:
◼ Password protection
◼ Blog and photo comments
◼ Blog search
◼ Hit counter
◼ RSS Feed Widget
All of these issues can be replaced with 3rd party options.
There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows. Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.

However, Roddy McKay and I have figured out a way to modify existing sites with those slideshows and iWeb itself so that those images will display as expected once MobileMe servers are gone. I would imagine that iWeb and iDVD will be dropped from future boxed versions of iLife if there are boxed versions. However, there may be some copies of the boxed iLife 11 still on the shelves that would include iWeb and iDVD. Those two apps were listed in small, gray text on the iLife 11 box that I bought.

App Store notifications not going away - what to do?

iPhone 3Gs. App Store on the phone shows three apps in need of updating, but those apps have been updated in iTunes, and the phone has synched several times since then. Why are the notifications not going away, and is ther a way to sort this out (without having to update the apps on the phone - they are on different accounts, and it is a pain to have to log in again for each app).

Apple has had an issue earlier with the iTunes Store and various aspects of it's operation. It's mentioned here:

It may take awhile for it to totally clear though.
In the meantime, try the following: Shut down the App Store/ iTunes Store apps from the Multitasking bar:
1.From the Home screen, double-tap the Home button, find the iTunes Store/App Store apps (drag the icons left/right) and swipe up on their respective screen captures, NOT on the icons at the bottom. This will close them.
2. Wait about one minute for the apps to close off
3. Reset the device:
Device Reset (won't affect settings/data/music/apps/etc)
1. Press and hold (& continue to hold) BOTH the Sleep/Wake button & the Home button.
2. Continue to hold BOTH (ignoring any other messages that may show) until you see the Apple logo on the screen.
3. Release BOTH buttons when you see the Apple logo and allow the device to boot normally.
After the reset, try to open the Apps Store and see if the updates notification has cleared.
