AFP protocol error

I have some older macs and I also have G-5's, iMacs, eMac's as well. When we try to go thru the network to get files from another hard drive we get this message. "This file server uses an incomplete version of the AFP protocol. You cannot connect to it".
G-5's are using OS 10.4.10 and the older units are OS 9.
We had no issues prior to upgrading to Tiger. We are also using TCP/IP, and appletalk on the older units. We need to transfer files between computers, and are currently using sneaker net. Any ideas???
Thanks.
Ken

You're not missing something... OSX.4.x IS!
OSX.4.x lost the file transfer ability of Appletalk... 10.1.5 thru 10.3.9 had it!
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301183
With OS9 set with Appletalk to using TCP/IP, and or Chooser>AppleShare+IP, you can connect to the 10.4.8, (maybe higher, not sure), machine.
Another solution is OpenDoor's $39 Shareway IP, (some OS7, 8, 9 releases had a limited version included)...
http://www.opendoor.com/shareway/
Which makes OS9 partially Tiger compatable. (Last I tried it was with 10.4.9,and communication was limited to Reads in either direction, Writes causing crashes on the OS9 machine, errors on the OSX ones).

  • OS 10.4 - Network - OS 9.1: AFP-Protocol incomatible

    Hi,
    i have a OS 10.4 G5 and a OS 9.1 G4 in my Network. When i try to connect from the G5 to the G4 i get the message that the "AFP protocol" on the G4 is incompatible.
    I've searched at google for hours and now i can connect from the G4 to the G5 via TCP/IP. But i need to connect from the G5 to the G4. Is this possible?
    I also need to connect to a Windows NT-PC but untill now i haven't tried if this works, i think it wont!?
    Greetings from Germany

    Yesterday we downloaded a trial version of ShareWay, which worked on the one G4 OS9.2.2 that we tried last night.
    http://www2.opendoor.com/shareway/shareway3.html
    Our situation prior to trying Shareway:
    1) From G5 Tiger, we want to connect to OS9.2.2 installed on two iMacs and one G4.
    2) The connection works fine to only one iMac.
    3) The other iMac and G4 report the AFP protocol error.
    4) All three connection work fine from G5/10.3.9.
    This morning I found these rather confusing articles, which we'll try next week. I'd appreciate reading about your experiences.

  • B-channel oos and protocol error 510

    Dear all,
    I have some some issue couple of days ago. The telephony system of my client worked well and suddenly the cannot make external calls via E1. I checked the config and for me it seems to be ok. When I checked the SDL file, I can see the B channel out of service error message following by the
    "MGCP PROTOCOL ERROR: <S1/SU1/DS1-0/[email protected]> CRCX error code: 510". They have A CUCM 6.0 and Cisco 2821 as gateway with 12.4 (25f) advance IP service IOS.
    I perform the following actions without success:
    -From the CUCM in the advance service I forced the Bchannel to bring it in service,
    - no mgcp/mgcp, -reboot the CUCM and the Gateway,
    -reset the controller throug CUCM,... in vain.
    They contacted telco and has confirm that everything seems to be ok. Find below the information that can help you to undestand better

    Thanks for your help

    The explanation for your syslog message is " The B-channel indicated by this alarm has gone out of service. Some of the more common reasons for a B-channel to go out of service include: Taking the channel out of service intentionally to perform maintenance on either the near- or far-end; MGCP gateway returns an error code 501 or 510 for a MGCP command sent from Cisco Unified Communications Manager (Unified CM); MGCP gateway doesn't respond to an MGCP command sent by Unified CM three times; a speed and duplex mismatch exists on the Ethernet port between Unified CM and the MGCP gateway"
    Recommended action:
    Check the Unified CM advanced service parameter, Change B-channel Maintenance Status to determine if the B-channel has been taken out of service intentionally; Check the Q.931 trace for PRI SERVICE message to determine whether a PSTN provider has taken the B-channel out of service; Reset the MGCP gateway; Check the speed and duplex settings on the Ethernet port.

  • TT12241: Backup stream protocol error

    Hi there,
    I get the following error when replicating TT 6.04 datastore:
    $ /data/TimesTen/6.04/bin/ttRepAdmin -duplicate -from UsageCollector -host NODE_B -setMasterRepStart -delXla -localhost NODE_A UsageCollector
    TT12241: Backup stream protocol error: bad log data packet length -- file "restore.c", lineno 2865, procedure "restoreLogFileNS"
    Unfortunately this error, TT12241, is not described in the documentation. Oracle Support and Google searches don’t return any relevant information.
    Have any one came across this problem before?
    Thanks,
    Igor

    I can't find any previous SR reports of the TT12241. No probable candidate bugs are returned either. However I have not seen the -delXla option being used before, so it may have something to do with using this option. Are you able to exclude this option from the ttRepAdmin -duplicate, and allow the bookmarks to be copied over? You could then connect to the newly created datastore and try to manually delete the bookmarks using "xladeletebookmark".

  • Net8 protocol error

    I'm currently upgrading from Weblogic 8.1 to Weblogic 9.1 on a Windows environment (Windows XP on my dev box) with an Oracle 8.1.6 database.
    During the upgrade, we switched from BEA's Oracle OCI driver ( weblogic.jdbc.oci.Driver ) in Weblogic 8.1 to their Type 4 JDBC driver in Weblogic 9.1 which resulted in a "Net8 protocol error".
    Does anybody know what's causing this error and how to resolve this?
    Thanks

    ThanksHi, yes. Our old, deprecated and now removed type-2 driver used OCI (whatever version
    you have installed) to talk to Oracle. Our new drivers use the wire-level protocol for
    all supported DBMS versions. Oracle 8.1.6 is extremely old. I don't think it's even
    supported by Oracle anymore, is it? I think you have two options:
    1 - Try using Oracle's driver, in the type-2 mode so it also uses OCI.
    2 - If (1) doesn't work, you probably have to upgrade your DBMS.

    Although this question is completely off topic of the Personalization you can learn how to configure the SQL*Net connect from the manual by reading the topic "Configure the Client to Use a Net Service Name" found at the following link:

    I dont see any crash dumps in sql server.I checked the tcp chimney and its set to automatic.I am not knowing what to look at to resolve this issue.
    if its the issue with the client API can i ask our vendor to check the client?

  • Java.rmi.RemoteException: Protocol error reported by the card! why?

    Hello,
    I am currently trying to run the JCK 2.2.1 SecureRMIDemo using SmartCardIO instead of OCF, but getting an error:
    java.rmi.RemoteException: Protocol error reported by the card
    (in my last post I succesfully ran the RMIDemo using my SmartCardIO implementation, see http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5405634&tstart=15)
    So here is what I did:
    - I succesfully loaded the server app (com.sun.javacard.samples.SecureRMIDemo) on the card without changes.
    - I created an new accessor class: public class PINCardAccessor extends SmartCardIOAccessor (I wrote SmartCardIOAccessor for the RMIDemo, it should work fine as an accessor)
    - The contents of PINCardAccessor class and SecureOCFCardAccessor are the same, just the class declration makes the difference
    - Here is the most important part of my main method:
                   ca = new PINCardAccessor(false);
                   JavaCardRMIConnect  jcRMI = new JavaCardRMIConnect(ca);
                   jcRMI.selectApplet(appAID);
                   // send PIN
                   System.out.println("Sending PIN...");
                if (! ((PINCardAccessor) ca).authenticateUser( PRINCIPAL_APP_PROVIDER_ID ))
                     System.out.println("Wrong PIN!");
                     System.exit(0);
                   Purse myServ = (Purse) jcRMI.getInitialReference();
                   if(myServ == null)
                      throw new Exception("Received null instead of the initial ref");
                   // print balance
                   System.out.println("Balance: "+myServ.getBalance());And finally here is the debug output:

    thank you

    Oh, thanks for pointing at the JCRE Spec, it is very informative, but i still have not found the problem yet.
    If i understand everything right, the communication's flow is
    SecureClient <-> PINCardAccessor <-> SmartCardIOAccessor <-> MySecurityService <-> SecurePurseImpl (with help of SecurePurseApplet)
    probably i made a mistake in a protocol of one or more layers.
    - MySecurityService, SecurePurseImpl and SecurePurseApplet are EXACTLY the one's from com.sun.javacard.samples.SecureRMIDemo of JCDK 2.2.1, so there cant be any mistake (?).
    - SmartCardIOAccessor worked fine in my RMIDemo tests, see http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5405634&tstart=15 - there is also the implementation)
    - SecureClient must be obviously correctly
    so maybe it's something about PINCardAccessor? hmm...i havent found anything, but here is the complete code:

  • RTSP Protocol Error

    Hi all.
    I am using Airfoil 3.2.1 and AE firmware 7.4.2. Now I know these are out of date. But my system was working fine. I did however upgrade the AE FW to the newest one some time ago, had all sorts of problems and had to revert to the older version. So I really don't wish to go through all that again.
    Now, out of nowhere this problem started today. My Airfoil could not connect to my speakers on AirTunes. I have reinstalled the software, performed a permissions repair, rebooted, talked to, stared at and said a few curt words to it and still it fails to connect. I get this error information:
    Domain: SSAirfoilErrorDomain
    Code: -1500
    NSLocalizedDescription: RTSP Protocol Error
    NSLocalizedRecoverySuggestion: Airfoil received an unexpected status code (Code: 500, Reason: Internal Server Error).
    SSRTSPRequest: RECORD rtsp://10.0.1.2/3329666127 RTSP/1.0
    User-Agent: Airfoil/3.2.1 (Macintosh; N; Intel)
    Active-Remote: 1730019454
    DACP-ID: 9BADA7F0CCA4316E
    RTP-Info: seq=4878;rtptime=0
    Client-Instance: 015DC7C5A93A1356
    Range: npt=0-

    CSeq: 4
    SSRTSPResponse: RTSP/1.0 500 Internal Server Error
    Server: AirTunes/101.9
    CSeq: 4
    After thinking and really understanding nothing from this, I suspect it is the AE, it has always as gremlins. But this is a new one and nothing on my imac has changed in the last day which could result in a conflict of software. Through doing some diagnostic work myself I don't this it is the AirFoil software. Through it I can connect to the computer speakers. I can stream music from itunes8 to the speakers via AirTunes no problem.
    Any ideas???
    Stu.

    Well, i thought i should best upgrade which I did to 3.3.1, and it cost me to do so, but it is working again, and that is the main thing! It is a great little app!
    Solved.
