AFP shares not showing in Sidebar

I am having problems getting afp shares to show in the Shared section of the Sidebar. The Sidebar is showing two of the SMB shares but nothing else. All of the AFP shares show on the other two Leopard computers. I have tried the following:
1. Turned Bonjour computers on and off in Finder Preferences.
2. Use DiscWarrior to clean the disc and have repaired permissions several times.
3. Tried deleting the com.apple.network.identification.pist file.
Any other ideas?
Thanks for any help.
Peter

I have this problem from time to time. To get them to show, in the Finder I go to Go > Connect to Server > then click on Browse. The will not show them in the left sidebar, but will show under the Network. I know it does not solve the problem. I'd like to know a fix as well.

Mounted SMB share does not show in sidebar and is unavailable to some apps (itunes, chrome).  Shares do show up when browsing computer.  Where should I start?
This started after upgrade to 10.7.3

Interesting short term solution - drag and drop share from finder->computer to sidebar.  This only works short term - after reboot share will still not show in sidebar.

  • Vista Share NOT showing up in OS X 10.5

    Okay here is the deal,
I can view my Mac share just fine on the Vista machine, but the vista share does not show up on my mac machine in Finder.
    What's up?
I can access the Vista share by typing: smb://192.168.1.106. Things work fine that way... But I want it to show up automatically.
Both my mac are in the same workgroup if that makes a difference. Also running Vista Ultimate on the PC and 10.5.2 on the Mac.
Kinda puzzling since XP shares showed up fine in 10.5, and I had a hard time getting Mac shares to show up in XP.

    Called Applecare,
My issue went all the way up to an "Apple Engineer."
They told me 10.5 does not actively search for SMB shares.
I say "That is impossible because XP is automatically listed in the Finder sidebar anytime a computer is available."
I get an 'over the phone shrug' and that was the end of the call.
Can some network genius out there help me?!?

  • Network shares not showing up in finder osx Lion

The shares on my network are not showing after I tried this SMBup. I tried to follow this guide but things didn't turn up as I was expecting them to work.http://knowledgebase.hsti.com/re-installing-smb-on-mac-os-x-lion-10-7-x
This is the official website where in the middle of the page there is a note stating that "SMBUp installs Samba, which in turn replaces Apple’s OS X’s native netbios and SMB services. This means that while connecting to servers from the Finder remains functional, the Finder won’t be able to “browse” network services and servers from the network won’t show up in the Finder’s sidebar. Be advised."http://eduo.info/apps/smbup
So i uninstall the samba restart the machine and now my shares don't show in the left side pane of finder. How can I get them back. Is the netbios service disabled

Open Terminal and issue the following command
    ps aux | grep netbios[d]
if you get a line similar to this
    _netbios          45   0,0  0,0  2477156   2456   ??  SNs   9:14am   0:02.44 /usr/sbin/netbiosd
then the daemon is running, otherwise issue the following command to start netbiosd permanently
    sudo launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.netbiosd.plist

  • Windows shares not displaying in Sidebar

    Hi
I have a iMac and a Windows Vista Laptop with File sharing enabled , The Windows Laptop can see the iMac in the Network folder and can copy and access files etc
The Windows share does not show up in the Finder Sidebar, although if i connect to server and enter the IP address of the Windows Laptop it shows up in the Sidebar with the IP address as the heading , I can then mount and access shared folders on the PC
Does anyone know how i can make the Windows share appear automatically in the Sidebar. Tech support have not been able to help yet

Perhaps [this thread|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8772053] or [this thread|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8436383] will assist. Seem to be similar. Otherwise search for windows vista share sidebar and you'll find lots of hits.
Have you tried to turn off the firewall and see if it works (not ideal of course).

  • Iomega 2003 Storage Server AFP Shares not visible since upgrading to 10.5.6

Iomega suggested that I post here. No AFP shares are visible since I installed the suggested 10.5.6 OSX upgrades. Nothing changed on the Iomega 2003 storage server side and it been running fine with the shares visible for over two years. What has changed in OSX? DO I need to open something up now for security purposes?? PLease advise as I am dying here!!
    Peace,
    DIGJOE

After working with it some more...  Have figured out that the "lock" screen is a security measure from the server software.  somehow, I have it set [didn't mean to do this] to show that upon each reboot now, and I'm not sure how to disable it.  I'll get into the server manuals and have to research that.
It also seems that the server software sees each HD as another computer somehow...  and each partition as well.  Curious...  Anyway, once I got past the "loced" screen, the fresh install of the  server software was in effect, and the primary HD is showing both patitions.
All is happy...  [doing little apple happy dance]...
I zero'd out both of the new HD's, and am forgoing the install of the newer 10.5.6 on them.  My 10.4.11 server is just fine actually, had no problems with it until I tried to upgrade.  I suspect that the server software either wants only 10.4.11 server on everything, or somehow I must "tell " it to accept the other 10.5.6.  Not real sure how to do that, however will put  my muscles inbetween my ears in gear to think about for awhile.
    Thanks for your assistance.

  • Windows Shares Not Showing Up In Finder (Master Browser Problem)

Hi, on leopard I had no problems with Windows shares showing up in finder. However, having upgraded to Snow Leopard, I've now lost that ability.
Before I had my Leopard computer set as the master browser. I did this by specifying domain master = yes and preferred master = yes in my smb.conf. However despite importing these settings into Snow Leopard's smb.conf, it is not acting as a master browser.
When I run the command "nmblookup -M -- -" which in Leopard returned my Mac as the master browser, now it says "failed to find name _MSBROWSE_#01".
I'm sure this is why the Windows PC is not showing up in finder, but I don't know why the smb-conf isn't taking effect in Snow Leopard, and setting it as the master browser?
Also, I can use Go -> Connect to access my Windows shares, and Mac shares show up in Vista okay.
    Any help appreciated.

Problem fixed upon updating to 10.6.2.

  • Some shares not showing up.

I'm having a strange problem that has happened once before, but I can't for the life of me recall what I did to fix it. First the background..
Open Directory Master: OS X Server 10.4.2
Files Server: OS X Server 10.4.2 (kerberized to ODM)
    Clients: OS X 10.4.6
What's happening is that one of the clients (me this time actually) am unable to view or access some of the Shares, but others I can see just fine. The difference
between this occurrence of the problem and the last time is that I am not a managed user whereas the people previously experiencing the problem were bound and
    managed clients.
I have tried deleting and recreating my ODM account without any success and I have verified that the shares permission/settings are correct. My colleague who is configured
identically to myself can see and access the shares without any problems. This issue started yesterday out of the blue with no odd behavior I can recall preceding the issue.
Any ideas what could be going on?
    Kind Regards,
    James Nierodzik

Well AFP Shares i take it?
We had this to, but after allowing guest access to the share points and to the aplple talke (in ServerAdmin) and then using harsh ACL lists to get the computers out it worked fine

  • Home share not showing up in iTunes

When I try to set up "home sharing" in iTunes Advanced tab on the menu bar the "share" header shows up as it is supposed to.  When I press "done" to complete the step the "share" header disapears.  Therefore not allowing me to use home share as it is intended.
    Has anyone seen this before.

I discovered 2 things about home sharing.
    1)  File sharing on the Mac must be turned on for this to work properly.  System Prefs -> Sharing -> File Sharing
    2)  If you are not actively sharing iTunes with another computer - the Share header in iTunes is not visible.  When a computer actively connects with your iTunes to share, the Share header will show up along with details of the shared connection.
    I hope this helps someone.

  • Disk Drives not showing in Sidebar or on Desktop.  Any ideas?

    All,
I'm having a strange problem that I first noticed last night. It appears that the internal disk drive on my PowerBook G4 does not show up on the desktop or in the Finder's sidebar, despite selecting these options in the Finder's preferences.
I do know that it was there when I first installed Leopard, but I'm not entirely sure when the icons disappeared. Nothing I do brings it back. This includes trashing all Finder and Sidebar preferences, trashing all caches, repairing permissions, and zapping the PRAM (I didn't expect results, but it was worth a try, I figured).
When I click on the icon for my computer, all that shows up is "Network". It's almost like the disk drive is invisible to the Finder. All other icons show up in the sidebar as they're supposed to, including iDisk, CD-DVD images, and flash drives.
I have the option selected in the Finder to show the path to the current folder in any given Finder window. I can access the hard drive that way.
Here's something else that's weird - when I have a new Finder window open, I click the "Path" button (addition to the toolbar). My internal hard drive is NOT SELECTABLE when I do this. It appears, but it's grayed out for some reason.
Has anyone else seen this? I'm going to file a bug report with Apple. If I hear anything, I'll post back.
    Thanks!

    UPDATE:
I found this article on the web:
    http://www.pinkmutant.com/articles/invisible.html
So, as suspected, my internal hard disk became "invisible" somehow. My best guess is something happened when I auto-updated iTunes and/or QuickTime. See the article for details on the "SetFile" command.
Anyway, here's the AppleScript code that I found, and this should take care of it:
    tell application "System Events"
set visible of disk "NameofDisk" to true
    end tell
You should be able to launch the Script Editor application, enter the code, and click the "Run" button. That should fix the issue, after you log off and back on again (or restart the Finder).
I'll try this tonight when I get home. Meanwhile, if anyone else has this problem and can try this solution now, please do so and post your experience(s).
    Thanks!

  • SMB share not showing all available files

    Hi,
At work I have to connect to several SMB shares. Most are fine, however 1 of them does not show all the files that are on that share. I know I'm using the right domain, username and password. I've checked the console and can see this message repeated when I connect.
    mbgetmem(449): incomplete copy
    mbgetmem(449): incomplete copy
    mbgetmem(449): incomplete copy
    mbgetmem(449): incomplete copy
I'm using OS X 10.4.8 and have no idea of how to proceed. My IT department do not support our Mac's so any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Many Thanks
    Kieran

excellent reply. Thanks for the details.
    Oh, one more thing-
this 30-item limit is just in this same troublesome share.
Before the day gets away from you, ask the network admin to check permissions on this share. Perhaps the 30 files you see are the only ones that you have explicit rights to view.
they may need to ease up on restrictive permissions on this folder/drive.
(Images over a network can be funky, since Mac wants to display a little thumbnail of all those picture files...if you're viewing 'as icons', what happens if you change to 'by list'?...thinking out loud there.)
(not sure if I posted this...lost an open window for a few minutes :o

  • Network shares not showing in the sidebar

Since ugrading our clients Macs to Lion, any network shares that are managed using workgroup manager are no longer showing up in the users sidebar, and if I try to drag the share to the sidebar it stays for a second then disappears ( the sidebar preferences are set to show the shares)
But if I eject the share and re-connect then it does appear in the sidebar as expected, and ideas how to make it show up on first connection without having to disconnect and reconnect?

Thanks, I did delete the file several times, restating after each attempt. I also tried from guest and other user account - exact same.
Curiously,... the 'shared" and connected devices have started to randomly reappear. I know there are devices connected all the time. So I dont know whats going on.
    Bring back SL.

  • Windows SMB shares not showing in finder

    hi,
i'm using 10.5.8 on a powermac G5 in the office and recently experienced some difficulties regarding SMB shares. there are two Win XP 32bit machines in the office network, one Win 7 64bit machine and the powermac.
    1) usually, the powermac could see and access all three windows machines via finder's sidebar. that stoped working some weeks ago. none of the three PCs shows up in the sidebar now. when i use finder's "connect to server" feature, the connection is established without problems. network printing to one of the XP machines also works fine. the mac's firewall settings where set to “Set access for specific services and applications” all the time, showing AFP and SMB shares enabled. just out of curiosity, i deactivated the firewall… and voila: my three PCs showed up in the finder sidebar again. changed it back… no PCs there
what's that? why did it work before, with the firewall enabled, and all of a sudden it doesn't work anymore and i have to shut down the firewall, to see my windows shares?
    2) for some time it was sufficient that i could access the windows shares from my mac. now my colleagues needed to access the mac from their windows machines. as they do not need to have access to my entire home folder, i added the relevant (sub)folder from my documents folder via SMB guest sharing, setting the access rights to "read&write" for everyone, so that no password was needed for guests accessing that folder. however, all three windows machines could only see the standard public folder with its drop box, but not the newly added folder. experimented for over an hour or so, changing settings, trying to add other folders… until i found out, that the folder will only show up on the windows network, when it's located on the top level of my home folder, but not, if it's located in a subfolder (i.e. in documents, music, etc.)
is this meant to be that way? or am i doing something wrong?

If this is still driving you crazy...
I had the same problem and by figuring out which machine was the Master Browser I managed to fix it. I have a Windows 7 system and it had taken over as the Master Browser (probably because I had to rebuild my Mac). I disabled the Computer Browser service on the W7 computer and a 2003 server in my network automatically took over as the Master Browser. All of the Windows machines immediately appeared under Shared Items on my Mac sidebar.
    I followed the instructions from:
    http://robmulally.blogspot.com/2009/03/macbook-master-browser-and-my-mate.html
    - on how to figure out which machine is the Master Browser in the network. The link came from a different discussion on the same issue (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1877116?start=0&tstart=0). There are also instructions (although somewhat vague) on how to make your Mac the Master Browser.
I hope this is of some help.

  • Why is a network share not showing up in time machine settings when on the wifi?

    Hi all,
I am currently trying to set up time machine for my Macbook air. I have connected an external harddrive to the network router and made it available as a network share. I have both read and write access to the drive, when mounted as a an SMB volume and while connect to the network via Wifi. However, when opening time machine settings and trying to select the backup volume, the network drive doesn't show up.
    What's wrong?
    Kind regards,
    Martin

Time Machine cannot backup to a SMB network volume.
Time Machine may also have problems backing up to AFP volumes on some network attached storage devices (NAS).
