AFS & MDM (update...)

Hi all
i have been looking for some SAP official documentation about scenarios between SAP Apparel Footwear Solution and SAP MDM to material/article master data; my questions below:
- Does exist some documentation about the real scenarios where it consider the integration between AFS and MDM? ie. create the article/material master data from SAP MDM as the main source and synchronize the information to AFS and its "how to..."

- Which iDocs are availables for this scenario?
- Is the best practice integrating these modules?
- Can i get updated information of these themes? 2010+

MDM Update trigger a Custom Program

Hi All,
We have a below scenario.
For any update from MDM, a custom Java program is triggered.
In the custom Java program , all the updations and workflow is getting triggered.
As we are facing performance problem for the update, we are now deattaching the Java program from MDM.
Did any of also worked on similar architecture , whether faced any performace problem and how did you solved it.
Any response for the above issue is highly appreciated.

Hello Priya,
Do you have the MDM Syndicator and/or PI?
The Syndicator can be utilized to push out data that has changed and according to your business processes you would decide how frequently you want the Syndicator Server to export the data to the port.
You can then check the port and do whatever you need with the exported data. If you use PI you can set the system to forward the data automatically.
One of the causes of performance problems when using Java programs is the fact that the system is set for all notifications. These can be set so that the system only sends out certain notifications thereby reducing traffic on the ports and improving performance.

MDM to AFS

Hello Experts,
Question about receiving Inbound parameters from MDM 5.5 SP5 to AFS 5.0. Can AFS receive the ARTMAS message type from MDM, or can it only receive MATMAS message type for the creation of new materials? When sending ARTMAS, we encounter the following inbound IDoc error:
"Retail materials cannot be maintained in the industry system"
Any idea/suggestions on what is causing this or how to go around this error?
Additionally, can two separate repositories in MDM be synched? So say we have a repository1 and a repository2. Both share some fields. Can updates to one also reflect in the other?
All help would be much appreciated.

Hi Marat,
Though I have no experience on your scenario, here´s what I found:
1. ARTMAS error - ARTMAS01 can be created in the AFS system , probably you need to check the ALE configuration -reprocess the Idoc in We19(or the corresponding AFS transaction if it is different) and check the processing ,it will help determine the cause of the error

Need help to insert and update records in MDM

Hi ,
I am trying to develop an webdynpro application which can create and update records in tables of a repository of MDM . For example .. I want to insert values and later update values in Vendor table.
I am new to webdynpro and MDM. If any one can help step by step or can send a sample code which I can be ready to use that would be great help.

Error while updating AFS weights & measures material master data using BAPI

Hello ABAP experts,
Please help me in finding the right way in updating AFS weights & measures data (/AFS/MARM) data using BAPI /AFS/BAPI_MATERIAL_SAVE_DATA.
I'm populating the following table parameters of the BAPI,
1. SKUUNITSOFMEASURE with /AFS/MARM records
s_bapi_marm-ALT_UNIT = 'EA'.
s_bapi_marm-ALT_UNIT_ISO = 'EA'.
s_bapi_marm-grid_value = 'XXXXS'.
*s_bapi_marm-STOCK_CATEGORY = '01000'.
s_bapi_marm-volume = '10'.
s_bapi_marm-GROSS_WT = '10'.
s_bapi_marm-NET_WEIGHT = '10'.
append s_bapi_marm to t_bapi_marm.
2. UNITSOFMEASURE with MARM records
s_bapi_uom-ALT_UNIT = 'EA'.
s_bapi_uom-ALT_UNIT_ISO = 'EA'.
s_bapi_uom-NUMERATOR = '1'.
s_bapi_uom-DENOMINATR = '1'.

append s_bapi_uom to t_bapi_uom.
But the BAPI returns me an error "Stock Category & is not valid in Category structure &"

You can check the Read-only option to prevent MDM from updating your data source.
Kindly see the below information on "DATA SOURCE UPDATES"
DATA SOURCE UPDATES
Some MDM Import Manager operations require that the original data source be updateable, thereby allowing new fields and/or entire new tables u2013 and the corresponding data values for each record u2013 to be automatically added to the data source before further processing.
Other operations simply create virtual fields in the MDM Import Manageru2019s workspace, although if the data source happens to be updateable, some of these operations instead add the new fields to the original data source as well.
NOTE ►► Updating the data source when possible allows you to
perform additional operations on the new fields as if they were part of
the original source data, and also use them as record matching fields.
NOTE ►► Fields that are added only if the data source is updateable
can be deleted automatically by the MDM Import Manager when you
exit or switch data sources based on the setting of the Delete Created
Fields on Exit configuration option.
Updateable Data Sources
Whether or not a data source is updateable depends upon the following:
u2022 Source type. The source Type must permit the MDM Import Manager to update its schema and insert the additional fields of data; some supported types are updateable and some are not.
u2022 Media. The media on which the data source resides must itself be updateable. If the media on which the data source resides is readonly, such as a CD-ROM, the data source cannot be updated.
u2022 Permissions. You must have the proper file system permissions to update the file, or the proper DBMS permissions to update the schema of the database.
u2022 Read-only option. You cannot have checked the Read-Only option, which prevents MDM from updating the data source even if the other conditions would otherwise permit it.
NOTE ►► The Read-Only option is: (1) enabled for source types that
can be updated (Access, Oracle, SQL Server, and XML); (2) disabled
and unchecked for those that use Access as an updateable staging
area (Delimited Text and Fixed Text); and (3) disabled and checked for
those that cannot be updated (Excel and ODBC).
NOTE ►► When the data source is SQL Server, the table names in
the database must not contain spaces; otherwise any operation that
would update the data source will fail.

I am still using SP05 and noticed that some mentioned that MDM4J.jar has to be used. Can someone throw some pointers how to do this with MDM4J.jar. Can I include MDM4J.jar in the same project along with mdm-admin.jar, mdm-core.jar, mdm-common.jar, mdm-protocol.jar or I shoudl have only MDM4j.jar to create this listener. Any help is appreciated.

MDM 5.5 SP6 P03 update to P06

Hi there
We have inherited a Widows-based MDM 5.5 from one of our customers. Now we have to update the System from "MDM 5.5 SP6 P03" to the up-to-date patch level "MDM 5.5 SP6 P05 HF18" (sap note 1449175). On SAP's SWDC I found the suitable files but I don't know how to install. I found several install- and upgrade manuals but they does not describe how to update to the next patch level. Does someone know a useful manual?

Hi Pius,
As you are upgrading to MDM 5.5 SP6 P05 HF18 from MDM 5.5 SP6 P03.
Please refer this below upgrade guide for MDM 5.5 which is considered as the default source release for upgrade, but direct upgrade from SP03 or SP04 to SP06 is also supported.

You can upgrade/install all the components as per (Sap note 1449175) according to this Upgrade Guide.
I think that SAP has not provided installtion/upgrade guide for Patch P05 from P03, as it can be done in the same manner as we do for SP.

MDM Created By Field Update

Hi All,
We are creating Vendors from portal ,when Vendor get created in MDM the Created By field gets value from User Logged into Portal .But when MDM workflow triggers Cretaed By field gets value from Workflow Owner .Is there anyway we can manitain the Created By field with User logged in Value.
Other way I thought of is create one more field and allow portal update this field when user create or Update the Vendors.
Please let me know better way to do it.

pretty interesting point ...
not sure why u get 2 diff values for the field ...
ur problem should have been instead of the Portal user u get the WF owner as the value ...
do u have 2 diff process for creating the vendors ?? - if so then it should be avoided
else if theres one process , but you are saving the record more than 1 times
change the WF a liitle to make sure WF is trigerred as soon as Portal user tries to save the entry from Porta l
do a checkout of the record - and after all validations etc - then only do a check in - so u save in MDM only once
now on having the Portal user name in there : try the launcher option as suggested earlier and see if it works
try to have the users mapped as well - in MDM and portal

Problems updateing a record on mdm

I have no compilation errors neither runtime errors.
I run the command to modify a record but nothing is changing in mdm.
Can you helpme with it ? i have urgence in this solution.

Diego, if this is the actual code, you have suppressed the exceptions by keeping the catch block empty.
Also keep your modify command statement in try / catch.
I would personaly test it by adding following steps:
Print the connection parameter, make sure connection is successful
Print the old values or one of the old values and the new value of a field to make sure you are sending the proper values.
Put a systemout/reportsuccess after execute and / or to make sure execute is done properly.
If everything is fine, just verify the update stamp of the record to verify if the record is getting updated or not. If the update stamp is not updated, that means the command never got executed properly.

How to update Prodcution order qty using /AFS/BAPI_GOODSMVT_CREATE

I need your help desperately,
I am using the BAPI, '/AFS/BAPI_GOODSMVT_CREATE' its working fine but it gets updated only Inv management / warehouse management perfectly, but my requirement is this return qty to be adjusted against the production order material. (MB1A with movement type '262' - for returns)
I need to know any other parameters to be included in the BAPI to update the production order also.

Import Manager MDM 3.0 Updating old Maps

Dear MDM Catalog gurus,
After having upgraded from MDM 2.0 to MDM 3.0 the maps have to be
updated in Import Manager.
1.
When trying to update MDM import Maps in the new "SAP Import Manager" messages
like
- "There are multiple roots for the XML Schema. Please select the correct one" or
- "There are multiple path for Table "ARTICLE". Please select the correct one"
come up.
What exactly do we have to do? What is the root of an XML-Schema? Can
I find that in Console or by looking into "old" Maps with the old Import Manager?
I saved the old Schema files from Console before upgrading to MDM 3.0.
Now when I open this old XML-Schema file with an editor, where can I
find e.g. the "old" root node.
2.
What happens if I say "No" I don't want to update the old Import Maps
when starting Import Manager.
Then all old Maps are gone and I have to recreate them. But does this
have an effect on the further upgrading process to MDM 3.0? Will the
old repositories work under MDM 3.0 after having sais NO?
Any idea?

I already read a lot of sap links, but don't really get a solution where I can find information about where to find the rood node (or what it is) or information to former paths.
Is there perhaps anybody how also made an upgrade from MDM Catalog 2.0 to 3.0 with similar experience?

MDM Tuple Update using Auto ID field of Main table

Hi Experts,
I am getting an issue while updating the tuple in MDM.
The scenario is as follow:
We are using DEBMDM06, where one of the field of the XSD is populated with the Auto ID field of MDM.
This scenario is used for re-importing of data for updating the tuple.
Now, I have mapped all the tuple related fields and have mapped the Auto ID field that exist in XSD with the Auto ID field that exists in MDM and using the same field for Matching.
This matching works, but after executing import does not update the tuple, whereas it updates the rest of the fields of the Main table.
I am aware that Tuple does not support the Auto ID field, but I believe we can use this field ( belonging to main table) and execute import action for updating tuple.
Has anyone come across this issue? Can we use Auto ID as a matching field to update the tuple?

Have you tried with "Updated Null Fields", as Auto id is a calculated field we can not import any data in it. Try importing with "update Null fields " and let us know the result.
Check the Tuple update options in configuration options of you import map and import manager.
I do not have a MDM 7.1 system to check, update null fields should solve your problem

MDM Tuples deletion and update.

Hi Experts,
I have a serious problem related to MDM 7.1 we have 3 main tables in repository i.e staging area wf_projects and material. The problem is that using generated web services we are not able to delete the tuples if they are not direct inside the main table. Like lets say main table is parent and there is one child tuple and in side child tuple there is grand child tuple now using a webservice we are not able to delete the grand child or update the grand child. if i am using a update service its updating the fields which are changed and the fields which i have deleted are not getting deleted from particular tuple i.e lets say i have 5 fields in tuple. i changed 2 fields and deleted 3 fields now i am executing the update service the changed fields are getting change that is fine but the fields i have deleted are not getting deleted. Please help and let me know if more explanation is needed.

Hi Jeetendra,
1) To delete a complete tuple record is not supported by MDM webservices.
2) To delete a perticular field value in MDM, using update webservice, you have to set the parameter "ApplyNullValuesToMDM" to true in the configuration parameters of the webservice.

Command Exception while updating in MDM

Hi,
Can someone tell me while performing update using Modify Record Command am getting the below error :
com.sap.mdm.commands.CommandException: com.sap.mdm.internal.protocol.manual.ServerException: Server error (0xffaa6000)
What should i do for this?

Hi Rekha,
Check to see if your MDM server is up and functioning also if your repository is loaded.
Make sure the User you are using to modify the record in MDM has sufficient rights defined in the MDM console.
