After 10.1 iTunes and 4.2 IOS on Iphone 3GS upgrade, old Outlook hang retur

After hours of fiddling at the worst possible time, I may have got some of my iphone back, but not yet all. Foolishly agreed to upgrade iTunes 10 to 10.1 on Vista 64-bit Home Premium, in order to upgrade iPhone 3GS from 4.1 to 4.2.
Firstly, iTunes wouldn't run after upgrade. Had to completely uninstall and reinstall iTunes and Apple App; Support, AND manually copy CoreVideo.dll from one folder to another.
Then the 4.2 installation failed midway and forced a complete recovery and restore.
Then (and this is the problem I now have, though worked around by temporarily disabling Contact, Cal;endar, Notes and Favourites sync - Mail already disabled) iTunes hangs Ouitlook so the post-Restore sync stalls.
As I write the sync is finally running - 4 hours of solid fiddling and googling after I started. But I will need to be able to re-sync all my Outl;ook data. I have done the Add-ins check in Outlook, so where do I go from here?

I notice that the iTunes was installed under the Program Files(x86) Folder and it runs under 32 bit mode.
It seems something wrong with the installer...

Since updating to the latest iTunes and the latest iOS, I am now unable to send calendar invites, which is what I use to keep my personal calendar, iCloud calendar, Thunderbird calendar, and two different work address calendars in sync.
I've traced the problem to the inability of Outlook 2007 to send emails after the update. I get the above error message when I try.
One thing I noticed is that the location of my iCloud inbox and outbox changed to a location under my Personal Folders as opposed to where it used to be, under iCloud. I think the issue is with the creation of different *.pst files and their locations, and the settings that Outlook 2007 automatically picked up after the iTunes and iOS updates.
I'd like to fix this, but am not quite sure how. I think it has to do with not being able to set the data file I believe to be the proper item as the Default.
I assume others have also experienced this issue. If so, has anybody managed to solve it yet? If you have, please share your solution.

Not a good sign. Try forcing the phone into recovery mode & restoring it. If this fails, make an appointment at an Apple store:
Turn your phone off. Leave the USB cable connected to your computer, but NOT your phone, iTunes running, press & hold the home button while connecting the USB cable to your dock connector, continue holding the home button until you see “Connect to iTunes” on the screen. thanks for the reply. guess i'll have to do that. apple, not really happy with what you've done with this latest update. have not been able to enjoy my music in my car since the update. most of us dont mind changes that progress timely, but this was much more than just a progression. this was a complete change. and not a good one, at all. thanks to the two people that replied. appreciate it.

I'd say that darn stupid. The whole world can access iTunes Radio via Apple TV and the laptop, but apple had to restrict this to the US for IOS 7 for iPad & iPhone.

AT this point whatever data you have on yoru phone is already gone since it is in recovery mode.
However you can restore from your backup, when your phone reboots from recovery.
YOu do have a backup right?

The 3GS is not listed in the supported list for iOS7. Unless Apple comes out with a major bug fix, 6.1.3 will likely be the last update for it.
