After 10.4.11 upgrade HD backup problem

I've used SuperDuper! to backup my 15" MBP numerous times. Since my update to 10.4.11 SuperDuper! keeps failing to copy at the exact same point during the copy process. The log shows an I/O error occurring after examining about 12,000+ files (before any copying begins on the destination FWdrive). I did a "repair disc" from the original Tiger install disc that came with the MBP. No repairs were necessary, volume verifies, permissions OK.
SD! tech is telling me I need to do a complete +Archive & Install+to fix this, but I'm trying to back-up before I install 10.5 and would rather not do this. Could this be an indication of an impending HD failure? Worth a hardware test?? Specifically a OSX issue?? A problem with SD!? Any clues....

yes I did. a few times... and nothing was wrong (no issues)
So, I went ahead and downloaded CarbonCopy Cloner... cloned fine in about 1hr. 30 minutes-- no errors, but I haven't verified if it is indeed bootable yet.
I have just installed 10.5.1-- NOW-- verify disk permissions in disk utility (HD--not install disk) is not working--- it says there is about a minute in the progress bar... that was 15 minutes ago. in 10.4.11 this took about 35-45 seconds.... I updated a couple of programs and want to make sure things are good....

After 10.6.5 upgrade: airport concurrency problems (e.g. streaming+surfing)

Since I upgraded to 10.6.5 I've got a serious airport problem: It seems as I can only have 1 TPC/UPD connection at a time. At least several programs accessing the internet at the same time somehow show a strange behaviour:
For example when I listen to a music stream in iTunes I can't access "new" internet sites. It looks like the browser can't send the DNS request. When I open a shell and do an "nslookup" and then copy+paste the IP into the browser, it works (but somehow slow). When I stop the music stream, everything is immediately fine again.
When downloading large files, Apple mail says the mail server couldn't be contacted. When having a teamviewer session, I can't open websites... and so on.
The problem only occurs when I'm connected over Airport. The connection itself is good and fast, several other devices (iPad, iPod, PC) can use the same router without any problems.
When I use a network cable, everything works fine. Then, when disconnecting the cable, surfing+streaming via Airport somehow seems fine, too. But after several minutes it becomes slow/unusable again. (looks like a cache/stack/buffer somehow runs full...)
I've already tried out this:
- removing airport and all other connections
- removing some network related .plist files
- installing the combo update again
- weaker or no airport encryption
- another router
- another DNS
- another year
Unfortunately I noticed the behaviour after some weeks of work without music streams or large concurrent downloads, so my last 10.6.4 backup has meanwhile been overwritten.
Please help getting my airport to work fine again. Thx in advance!

Try another DNS in your System Preferences->Network pane, highlight the Airport card, in the right-hand pane click on the 'Advances' button. In the drop-down click on the DNS tab and experimenting using the DNS server OpenDNS.com. See if using their DNS (they have a instructional video on how to use it) helps your situation.

Dictation problems after ios 8.2 upgrade

I rely heavily upon dictation.   2 problems occur (at minimum) after ios 8.2 upgrade to iphone 6. .
1. I wasnt going to add this dictation bug (feature ;-)) b/c couldnt reproduce the seemingly safari bug when got home, but as I was dictating my first sentence for defect here, it happens in this text box on any line. :-(.
    1. Problem is as soon as dictation types in word Or words, when I hit done, it erases what was just dictated! Happens on even just ine word. (So having to manually type all of this n I stink at typing ie, time consuming).
    2. I can paste characters from noteoad into here...so must be dictation relateD...it seems.
2. In the calendar textbox, when I dictate a new event (doesnt happen in location textbox) and the last character before it fills up the end of textbox (just before the "x"), it automatically does "done" for me (the beep sounds), it stops dictating, but more annoying is it will no longer allow me to continue dictating in that new event's top textbox. That means I HAVE to type n I stink at that. To reproduce I simply:
1. press the microphone.
2. Type in only numerics 1 thru 17....it will dictate to look like this: 123 456-789-1011 1213 1415 1617
3. "Beep/dong" noise because it hits the end of characters alowed it seems n decides it is "Done".
4. press the microphone
   5. "Beep/dong" noise because it wont let you dictate any more of anything said.
I Couldnt find the entry where google shows someone with what looks like same issue/bug/defect/feature # 2, so entering this.
I Have warranty but cant figure out how to get phone support for iphone (only mac ...last year).
I don't seem to have this problem using i notepad in phone when he gets to having to wrap. :-)
I Have not trieddictation on my mac...yet.

Wow! That definitely sounds frustrating, but good job so far isolating and troubleshooting the issue. We have a few more steps that we can try in an attempt to resolve this issue:

I have tried reseting the network settings and forgetting my wireless connection and re-connecting to it. I even backed up my phone on itunes and restored it, factory reseted it. Nothing seems to work.
Also after my upgrade to ios 8.1 my personal hotspot option under cellular data has disappeared.
Would you please help me out? I would really appreciate it.

Clock problems after IOS 4.2 upgrade

We have 2 Iphone 4 at home, each connected to a different computer ( 1 Mac, 1 PC ).
After the upgrade to IOS 4.2 both have a problem with the clock. When the phone is put on "update clock automatically" ,the following happens (We live in Belgium)
-Phone 1 switches to summer time as soon as a connection with the provider is made. If you go to fly mode, or put the clock on manual, the correct time is displayed. This occurs wherever you are so it is not linked to the information provided by the cell tower. After a hard reset and restore, this problem was solved.
-Phone 2 is even stranger. I was in NYC a few weeks ago and set the clock manually on EST. Back in Belgium everything worked fine until after the upgrade. Now the clock will go to EST overnight, ie when I wake up in the morning at 7 AM, it is suddenly 2 AM in the morning. Here, if you go to manual setting of the clock, then switch back to automatic setting, it works fine again.... until the next morning ! And I don't switch off the phone at night
I guess a hard reboot + restore will be needed as well.
Anybody else came across this problem ?

Since 2 days I have the same problem with my Iphone.
I also live in Belgium and my phone was all of a sudden 1 hour ahead of our local time. I modified the clock settings to manual and then the time switched back correctly. Today somewhere between 8 and 11 AM I noticed the clock was 1 hour ahead again. I adjusted the clock settings to manual again and the clock is correct again. How come this is happening ?
It all started since my upgrade to version 4.2.1.
Can someone please take a look at this ? For the record I use the 3 GS 16 GB version. My provider is Proximus.
Seems my favorite Apple is starting to look a lot like Microsoft since this is the second major time/clock bug in a few weeks.

Sound problems after iOS 4.2 upgrade

Experiencing very poor sound quality after iOS 4.2 upgrade. Bad eq, left channel dropping out, sounds like heavy reverb. Exists with iPod and pandora apps. Tried adjusting eq in settings. Any one else having problems?

Yep I just upgraded to new OS 4.2 on iPhone 4 and I get this static buzz sound when talking to people it's really annoying and sound quality is terrible. What happened? I went back to the shop and they said it's the upgrade and that there is an issue with it. They also said there is no point leaving the phone with them as they can't fix it that it's upto apple to release a patch for the problem. Can we get a fix for this soon before I damage my ears?

Problems After Win 8.1 Upgrade - Two Additional Partitions Both With Same Volume Serial Number?

An update from Win 8 Pro to Win 8.1 Pro has occurred automatically on one of my machines.
Prior to the upgrade (from memory) the machine had an OEM Partition (40MB), EFI System Partition (500MB), Recovery Partition (8.17GB) and OS (C:) partition. Only the latter was visible in Computer.
After the 8.1 upgrade there are two additional partitions, Recovery (500MB) and Recovery (450MB). All the partitions are now displayed in This PC as drives except the 40MB OEM Partition.
When viewed in This PC both the two new drives (that appear to equate to the new partitions) show as 499MB each with the same amount of free space. In Disk Management the first new partition is shown as 500MB and the second as 450MB.
I have SugarSync installed on this machine and since the upgrade it is displaying an error telling me it won't work because the two new drives have the same Volume Serial Numbers.
Clearly something has gone wrong with the upgrade:
Is there any way to resolve the Volume Serial Number conflict?
Is there any way to stop all these drives appearing in This PC?
Do I need the two new partitions and if not how can I get rid of them?

There is a fourth path to upgrading to Windows 8.1 provided by Microsoft. Microsoft have been displaying automated reminders from time to time on Windows 8 computers that Windows 8.1 update is available to download - from these reminders it is possible to
choose either Install or Not Now. Just recently these reminders have changed, they are instead notifying the user that the Windows 8.1 Update will be installed automatically or the user has options to postpone the installation for 1hr, 2hrs, etc. The
user of this computer tells me she went away from the machine and Windows 8.1 update installed automatically from one of these prompts.
I have seen these installation prompts on several of my customer's computers and they are not malware related (I deal with malware removal every day and would recognise this). However, I have scanned this computer with Bit Defender and MalwareBytes and there
are no infections present.
The only difference between this Windows 8.1 Update and the others that I have carried out is that it wasn't controlled and therefore I wasn't able to disable the security software (Bit Defender Internet Security 2015). This may be the cause of the problem.
I've uploaded the two screenshots you asked for - the two new drives are W: and Z: and SugarSync is reporting that they have the same Volume Serial Numbers. Note: X: and Y: were not visible prior to the upgrade.
There are two Windows Update logs at C:\Windows\ so I will upload both.

Problem with Reset/Refresh after Windows 8.1 upgrade

When I try to do a Refresh or Reset on my Helix after it has been upgraded to 8.1, I receive a message to "Insert Media. Some of the files are missing." Does anyone know how to fix this?

Problem 1: after resetting and restoring from iTunes backup, i get all the settings back. But my apps didn't. If I download them, would I have my files back? Like my minecraft worlds? I had VERY important stuff
Problem 2: when I want to download a paid app like minecraft, and I downloaded it from the same apple ID, it doesn't say 'free', nor it has a cloud, But it says $6.99. Please help me. I have IOS 7.1.1.

I just downloaded iTunes 8.0 and now when I connect my iPod it gives me an error message that says, "the sofware you are installing for this ardward has not passed windows logo testing to verify its comapability. continuing your installation of this software may impair or destabilize the correct operation of your system either immediately or in the future. microsoft strongly recommends that you stop this installation now and contact the hardware vendor for software that has passed windows logo testing." This bites... I thought I was fine, but i've fallen victim to this error... I'm getting Error -4280...
I upgraded yesterday... Purchased 3 albums and successfully burned them (not knowing of this problem)... Today, I purchased 3 more albums and started to burn them as well... It burned once, no problem... But when I started to burn the 2nd album I started getting the above error...
So, it decides to burn a total of 4 discs and then craps out on me all of a sudden?¿? It would be different if this happened the FIRST time, but after burning 4 discs; it makes this problem worst for me... If I knew this would happen, I probably would of waited before purchasing the 3 albums I got through iTunes...
What's worst, I didn't even burn the BEST album first... sigh

DNS problems after 10.5.4 upgrade

The 10.5.4 upgrade seems to have badly broken DNS on my MacBook Pro. I have tested this side by side with other computers running 10.5.3, and 10.4, and there is definitely something amiss.
DNS resolution is painfully slow, and sometimes fails altogether. Clearing the DNS cache seems to offer only a temporary solution, as I wind up in one hung terminal session after another. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Try plugging a net cable into your NIC and into router to see if it persists, if using Airport wireless after 10.5.3 that is your problem. There just happens to be the DNS patch in the news about the same time 10.5.3 was released,
You are more likely to have this problem using a non-Apple router, but you can verify if its Airport by checking your System Profiler/Software/system.log file, scroll to the bottom of that log look for "Airport Beacon (Lost) messages, if so that is your problem and you will need to roll back to 10.5.2 until Apple comes up with a fix.

Problem with 3G network after ios 6.1 upgrade on iphone 3Gs.

I have a iphone 3Gs and not a 5 or 4 and since my ios 6.1 upgrade it's a nightmare for me. I meet a lot of reliability issue with the 3G network. Before the 6.1 upgrade it worked fine. My carrier provider is SFR. It seems to be a "bug" only with 3G. Maybe it's the same as 4Gs but not corrected for 3Gs.
By example I'm using my iphone to join a Free Number to join a confcall system and everytime after sometimes 3 minutes or 15 minutes I'm automatically disconnected - nobody is hearing me and I have to switch off and to reconnect. Others collegue working with me having a iphone 3Gs meet the same issue as me with 3G network.
Do you plan to release the 6.1.1 version for iphone 3Gs ? if yes ? when ?

After testing workaround to disable WIFI when I'm using 3G network. It worked for 1 confcall during 1 hour !! but for the second confcall the duration was only 6 minutes and the network was cut !!! the workaround doesn't work !.
I'm surprise because I don't find similar issue on Internet with "Reliability of 3G on iphone 3Gs after ios 6.1 upgrade!!".
This morning during a call this message appears "Could not activate cellular data network".
Are you in the same case as me ? Do you have a workarounf for me ?

Safari problems after 10.10.3 upgrade

I am unable to search anything in Safari after 10.10.3 upgrade.

1. Power off the router. Unplug it from the wall. Wait a while.
    Plug it back to the wall. Power the router on. Wait until all the lights are lit properly. It will take a while.
    Restart the computer.
    Start up in Safe Mode.
