  • Editing After Laying Final Audio Mix Into The Time Line - Possible?

    Hello Board,
I finished my film recently and layed the final audio mix (stereo track) into the timeline, replacing all the seperate audio tracks. Now, I want to go in and do some edits at the beginning of the movie.
I still have the main video tracks and several other video tracks for noise filter, credits, etc.
Is it possible to link the video track with the stereo audio file and keep everything synced as I make the cuts to eliminate the need to remix the sound?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Lin

Because the video and audio aren't linked, I'm using the razor tool to cut in and out point on the timeline, first to the video and then to the audio seperately. after marking the spots with the razor tool, I delete the unwanted area in between (I do both to the video and audio track) and then pull the pieces together on the video and audio tracks. So far it has stayed synced.
In your case, Lin, I'd recommend using Add Edit and Ripple Delete instead of the Blade tool and the other steps you're doing.
    That is...
    1. At the point where you want to cut, press Control-V (that's Add Edit)
    2. At the next point where you want to cut, press Control-V again
    3. Select the region to be cutout and press the Del key, that's the key below Help and to the left of End on your keyboard, not the Delete key.
(This is a Ripple Delete, which clears the selection and moves all clips to the left, leaving no gap)
However it seems like doing transitions would be hard because unless I can match the space on the audio track it will all go out of sync.
I'm honestly confused by what you mean about 'space on the audio track' and things not matching - care to clarify?

  • After upgrade to Mavericks I can do Time Machine backups but I cannot have access to them

After upgrading my iMac 20" (early 2008) from Snow Leopard to Mavericks, I can backup with Time Machine and I can see that the copies have been made. But when I enter to Time Machine mode, all these copies in the right bar goes from pink to translucent in some few seconds, and I cannot have access to them.
I have a dedicated external 400GB HD for the copies, formated in Mac Os Plus, and I can go there and open, copy, etc. any file "manually", so, the copies are right (I guess).
Any idea about why I cannot "go back" in Time Machine, although it "sees" the disk, and the copies exist?
Thanks in advance for your help.

  • HT201250 Original files after I backup on time machine?

What happens to the original files still on my computer after I backup on time machine? Should I trash them now to free up disk space. In other words are the backups all I need now?

No. This is Not how TM operates. If you delete the files off your Mac they will (eventually) be Deleted from TM.

They need to remain on your Mac.

  • After formatting my HD and eventually restore my system from a backup on Time Capsule, will I still have access to my old backups as normally used to do via Time Machine?

I have a Time Capsule (4th Gen) and my backups on it, I need to completely erase my hard drive. My question is: after formatting my MacBook HD and eventually restore my system (OS X 10.6.8) from a backup on Time Capsule, will I still have access to my old* backups as normally used to do via Time Machine?
*(-and to the newer backups- if I had not restored my system from the last backup).
    THANKS

That's a good question. Technically, Time Machine should make a new backup but not erase any old backups. But if there isn't sufficient space on the backup drive, then I'm not sure if Time Machine will simply warn you or just go ahead and remove old backups to make room for the new ones.
In any case, the new backup should have a different backup folder on the backup drive. That's my understanding. You can learn more at pondini.org.

    Hi bluegrandpanash,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If you backed up your iPhone to iCloud before updating the software, first try the steps under "Restore from an iCloud backup" in this article to recover your data:

I presume you upgrade installed?? Very bad.. clean install ML if you want it to work.
Are you using a Time Capsule?
    Reset it.
Reset Time Machine which gets very messed up in the upgrade.

  • IMPORTANT: No more "backup every time" or endless apple logo crashes!

So after 11 crashes where the iPhone wouldn't come back after bootup, I had enough. I took it to the Apple Store and they replaced it. Since then, it crashed 2 more times. Yet again, had enough, and decided to try some experimenting.
Using this method, I have had no more crashing issues. What's more, the iPhone ONLY tried to do a backup the first time, and doesn't even try (I don't have to press the X) when I sync now. IF you are suffering from the endless apple logo crash, *TRY THIS:*
    1. Unplug your iPhone. If you're stuck at the logo, press the power/lock and home buttons at the same time. Hold them until the phone shuts off
    2. Hold down the home button and plug in the sync cable while holding. Do not let go of the home button until the screen shows up with a cable connecting to iTunes on the phone
    3. Press the button to recover your phone. Wait for the Recovery to finish and the phone to reset
    4. Go into EDIT > PREFERENCES > SYNCING on iTunes. Delete all old backups that you feel comfortable deleting (I got rid of all of them). Also (*VERY IMPORTANT*), click the checkbox next to "Disable automatic syncing for all iPhones and iPods".
    5. Select the radio button to set your iPhone up as a new iPhone. Wait for activation.
    6. Click to sync whatever you want on the Info, Ringtones, Photos, Podcasts, Music, and Movies tabs. *MAKE SURE YOU SELECT NOT TO SYNC APPS.*
    7. Perform a sync, then eject the phone
    8. Set up any config you want (email accounts, settings, ringtones, etc)
    9. Plug the phone in and press the sync button (it will not autosync). When you do, it will sync and take a backup. This backup takes about 3 seconds.
    10. Go to the Apps tab and select to sync ONLY clicked apps. Unclick all apps.
    11. Add your apps one at a time, like so: click the checkbox next to one app, press sync (takes a small amount of time per app). Once the app is done installing per iTunes, look at your iPhone. You'll notice the little spinning internet indicator at the top left is still spinning. Wait until it is done!
    12. Repeat step 11 until finished. Click the checkbox, press sync, wait, *ONE APP AT A TIME*. iTunes will not try to backup every time.
When you're done, eject your iPhone, move things around, do all your logins you have to redo since it crashed, etc. If you want to, plug the iPhone back in. It will not auto-sync since you turned that off. You can click on another app, click sync, and it syncs the new app WITHOUT a backup!
*_WHAT TO DO IF THERE IS A PROBLEM SYNCING AN APP_*
If you try to sync an app (one at a time), and during the sync someone calls you or you get an error in iTunes saying the app had a problem, go to your Apps tab, UNCHECK the app you were just trying to sync, and press sync again. Allow it to de-install fully, then click the box and press sync again to try one more time.
*_WHAT TO DO IF YOUR PHONE STARTS TO LAG_*
I don't know if this is a good idea or if it is approved, but when I open a bunch of different programs, my phone starts to get slower and slower. I also notice that when you go into a program you've already opened, it's usually quicker than the previous time. So I'm not sure if this is like OSX, where closing an app doesn't free it up, only by right click closing does it truly close. So here's what I do:
Go into an app you've already exited. Instead of exiting again, hold down the Home button for about 6 seconds until the app disappears. That seems to cause it to truly close, and the phone will work faster on other things. Now as a disclaimer, you MIGHT be crashing the app...I don't know. But it seems to help.

Hmm. This sounds pretty similar to my problem. I have gone through three iPhone 3Gs so far in Japan.
Basically, got two iPhones on launch day, probably the first two sold in my area (White and Black). One for my wife and one for myself. I have a new iMac with 4GB and a year old Macbook Pro 17 with 2GB.
Each iPhone was synced separately on different computers with different iTunes accounts (Leopard). I have a US and a Japan iTunes account, my wife a Japan iTunes account.
Anyway, I bought some apps on both sides (Japan and US iTunes sides sepperate computers) and none ever completed there installs. In fact they rebooted the iPhone (both of them) and iTunes crashed. When the iPhones rebooted sometimes the app was on the iPhone other times not.
Sometimes the crash was so bad the iPhone would not boot up at all and I did a firmware restore (think I have done this 18 times so far). But the problem persisted and not a single app on either iPhone or either computer would install without first crashing iTunes and the iPhone.
At some point, the crash was so bad the firmware restore no longer worked and basically bricked the phone entirely as it refused to recognize the SIM or iTunes and couldn't even do a restore. I brought that back to Softbank (the carrier in Japan) they had some tech folks look at the phone.
After scratching there head, switching SIMS and plugging it into various computers, and doing a bunch of other things they replaced my iPhone with another new one from some special inventory they had of factory new phones in cardboard shipping boxes with no packaging except for the sealed phone itself (no wires). I believe these where meant to be loaners while your phone was being sent back to Apple for servicing (this is what I was told afterward in a voicemail message which I still have from Softbank apologizing for the trouble).
My wifes never died completely but I have stopped installing any apps on it because it still crashes on installs AND removals. It never successfully installed anything without first crashing the phone and iTunes.
Here's the kicker, as of yesterday morning I was on phone number two, and it was still crashing on installing ANY software from the App store, free or otherwise, via iTunes, or directly from the app store...
Guess what, it died yesterday and had a blank screen and wouldn't boot at all nor would restore work at all. So today, I went to Softbank again and got it replaced once again (a loaner for the loaner), with a new one no questions asked AND guess what, there was a very upset guy sitting with a store rep with EXACTLY the same problem I had and I overheard the Softbank rep on the phone speaking to another Softbank store I assume asking for another loaner iPhone as they no longer had any loaners left in the store because they lent them all out.
So being a noisy guy that I am, I asked sympathetically, 'Hey, sounds like Apple is giving you guys a lot of grief.' The guy told me they had replaced 28 iPhones that day at his branch alone because they couldn't revive the phones (forget about activating them) and Apple was not being very helpful. So they have been mailing them to some service center in the US (I was told) where Apple techs where going over the handsets to get some firm answers.
So now, I have been thru 3 new iPhone 3Gs that have exactly the same problem on two different computers and a forth one that does the same and a guy at the store next to me getting a replacement phone for the same reason and a store that is out of loaners cause they got so many returned dead.
The fact that Softbank is not even looking at my phone anymore and simply replacing it tells me this is a systemic and a widespread problem at least in Japan and causing Softbank great grief and I am not too amused myself as I got better things to do then visiting cell stores and restoring firmware.
So clearly there is something very wrong with our beloved iPhone 3Gs firmware or possibly the phone itself or Japan got junk sent over.
"Apple, fix this problem because you don't want to end up with tens of thousands of dead iPhones on your doorstep do you? -- if you don't already have a truckload from Japan and you might want to fix the 3G reception while your at it cause its embarrassingly terrible in 3G rich Japan."
Aside from that, I do really love the iPhone and Apple, but love does have its limits and I am starting to feel that I am in an abusive relationship.

hi, I have a macbook pro with a new hard drive installed and restored. My WD external drive backup on time machine now wont let me access the files. I get a prompt saying 'you do not have permission to access the files' After my new drive was installed I plugged in time machine and it started backing up. I paused it when I realised that it was running for more than a few minutes. I now realise that it probably started backing up the new hard drive all over again. Which makes me think that the original back up must be on the WD back I cant seem to access it. Any ideas would be helpful.

  • Trying to backup my time machine..

I am trying to backup my time machine but keeps coming up with error 6584 can anyone help please
    <Re-Titled By Host>

First, if this is your only backup, you must make another full backup to a locally-attached external hard drive. One backup is never enough to be safe, and backing up over a network is less reliable than backing up locally. Then try each of the following steps that you haven't already taken.
    1. Restart the backup device. You can do that by disconnecting and reconnecting the power cord.
    2. Hold down the option key and select Verify Backups from the TM menu in the menu bar (not the Dock icon.) This operation may take a long time. If the menu-bar icon (a clock that runs backwards) isn't showing, check Show Time Machine in menu bar in the preferences.
    3. Erase the backup device. With a Time Capsule, you do that from within the AirPort Utility application; see its built-in help for details. All backups will be lost, so don't do this until you've backed up to another device. After erasing, select the TC again as a backup destination in the TM preference pane. The first backup should be made over a wired connection, if possible.

  • My external hard drive (1TB WD My Book Essential) suddenly has no room to backup with Time Machine! I am using Maverick OS and wondered if it is because of a bug in the system software.

My external hard drive (1TB WD My Book Essential) suddenly has no room to backup with Time Machine! I am using Maverick OS and wondered if it is because of a bug in the system software. I purchased a new external drive with 3 TB and wonder if I will run into a problem installing it. I don't know how to transfer my files from the previous HD to the New one. I was told to use a cable, but how do I do it? Do I connect them both to the computer and drag the old into the new? How is it done?  Why did this happen, the overloading of the Time Machine?

Why has the TimeMachine drive run out of space?
With the limited amount of information you've provided it is hard to answer this question. TimeMachine should continue making backups until the drive is full and then it should erase the oldest backup(s) to retrieve enough space for the next backup. Unless your computer's hard drive has close to 1TB of space on it, you shouldn't see a message saying TM cannot backup because it is full. However if you do have more than 500GB (1/2 a TB) then I can see how that message might occur. Also, if you are using the TM drive for double duty (backing up more than one computer or storing data other than TM) you could get that message.
Will you have this problem with a 3TB drive?
I always recommend that people look at how much they'll be backing up in total, add a bit extra for the future, and then multiply that by at least 1.5 and even better to double it. That indicates how large the TM backup drive should be. The TM drive should only be used for TM backups. It is ok to use one drive to back up  more than one computer but if doing so, add up the contents of all the computer drives, adjust for the future and then double it.
    Moving Forward
Disconnect the old TM drive for now. Connect the new drive and let TM do its job. I don't recommend that you try to transfer the TM backup from the old drive to the new one. Keep the old drive around for a couple months just in case you find you need it and then after a few months, if you like, you can erase it and use it for something else.

  • Backup to Time Machine failed due to large iMovie Library

    Hi All
    I have had issues backing up to Time Machine since upgrading to OS Mavericks and iMovie 10, the likely culprit is my large iMovie library.  I have deleted my previous iMovie events, so only have the 1 iMovie library file related to the current version of iMovie.  I have the following situation;
    - iMac HDD - 1 TB with 0.5 TB free
    - External HDD - 2 TB with 0.5 TB free (used for iMovie library which is 1.5 TB)
    - External HDD - 3 TB with 1.0 TB free (used for Time Machine backup)
Now I have just imported some additional video into my iMovie library.  When I try to do a backup I get the error "Backup Failed, Time Machine couldn't back up to "Time Machine"."  Then further details suggest "The backup disk needs 1.55 TB for the backup but only 982.04 GB are available. Select a larger backup disk or make the backup smaller by excluding files."  This seems to suggest that Time Machine wants to backup my entire iMovie library (ie, 1.55 TB)
Two questions; does Time Machine backup the entire iMovie Library each time there is a change rather than just the incremental imported files?, and how can I get my backup to work again?

  • Setting up manual backup in time capsule

    Hi
I've been having some problems with my MacBook Pro. The processor is being overworked by a bad kernel in the OS. I've had it checked over by support and the only option is to wipe the hard drive and start a fresh. As a result I've invested in a Time Capsule to do a backup of my music and photos before wiping it. Due to the issues with the processor, I am only able to access my user account and hard drive in safe mode and it was suggested that I perform a manual backup as opposed to letting the time machine run, which apparently can be processor demanding.
Can someone please advise on the steps I need to follow to successfully initiate and complete a manual backup. So far, my MacBook has recognised the time machine and I have set up the basic info for it. I have not yet connected the time machine to the internet, though I assume its not compulsary as I've already accessed it without the time machine being connected. I have attempted to follow the instruction in the manual to no avail and after exploring all the options in the time machine menu, I'm still no closer.
My MacBook Pro was purchased in January 2010 and I'm currently running Mountain Lion (10.8). A quick response is appreciated as I have a deadline to meet before I have to wipe the hard drive. The longer I keep this bad kernel, the more damage it could do!!
    Many thanks in advance
    James

    Manually copy the files.
Just open finder and locate the files you want to save.. the library for iphoto and itunes should be obvious although you might need to look up where they are.
Copy the libraries as a standard file to the TC.. but create a directory for it.
You should also be able to boot the Mac from installation CD.. using disk utility you can create an image of the startup drive.
    http://macs.about.com/od/backupsarchives/ss/diskbackup.htm
A backup utility like clonezilla can boot the Mac and do a full disk image.. same as the above if you don't have ready access to a boot cd. Once you have full disk copy to external drive.. you can access the files you need once you have a proper working OS. that is the way I would do it. I am sure some of the other guys here have better suggestions.. but you can download clonezilla and create a boot cd. This works on the Mac just as well as the PC apparently.. though I haven't tried on the Mac.
