After 10.5.6, Time Capsule shared volumes don't remount after wake

I've noticed than since upgrading to 10.5.6, the system will not properly autoremount a time capsule volume when I wake from sleep.
Sometimes the system reconnects, other times it doesn't. This used to always remount in the previous release.
Has anyone else seen this?

I am having the same problem. I am running 10.5.6 and my Airport Utility doesn't show my time capsule when I start the app. I can find the network, but the device doesn't show up. I can restart and it still doesn't show up. If I leave it running for several hours, it somehow fixes itself. Once it goes to sleep, the network shows up but the airport utility can't find the time capsule. Jeez. I have had nothing but trouble since I installed 10.5.6. I have tried reinstalling 10.5.6 again and again, no help.

I am trying to setup my new time capsule but it is not working. after entering the airport utility and locating the TC, after I tell the program to continue, the unit just disappear from the menu and the setup menu says there is an error. I tried using the wireless connection, and also the cable, but none worked. Any idea of what could be happening?

What are you setting it up as.. join wireless network .. the very worst setup, it will disappear.. reboot the whole network in order modem. router TC.. clients and it will likely reappear.
Tell us what network setup you are using..
If you setup with cable to a computer completely isolated from the network with TC also isolated.. finish the setup of everything you want. .before update.. then plug it into the network. .then restart everything in correct order.. it will work most of the time.

  • TV no longer connects to wireless internet after installation of Airport Time Capsule

TV no longer connects to wireless Wi-Fi internet after installation of AirPort Time Capsule.

I am having a similar problem with a new TIme Capsule. The wifi on the Time Capsule was working fine for months with all devices, iPhone 4s, iPad Air, iMac Air, Mac mini, and vizio smart TVs.  After a recent software update the Time capsule wifi no longer connects to the smart tvs or the iPhones. It still connects to the mac mini, iPad and iMac Air. I do NOT think the software update timing was just coincidental. But I have not found any information or other users confirming a similar problem on the Apple support site.

  • MacBook Pro loses connection to Internet after sleep using Airport Time Capsule

I recently upgraded to Mavricks and then added a new Airport Time Capsule, and now I my MBP will not connect to the wireless LAN after waking up from sleep mode.  My MBP worked great for over a year with an non-Apple router, so I am thinking that there is a new Apple computer-to-Apple Router issue going on. Any thoughts, suggestions?
I read all the threads and have followed all the simple advice, such as making sure the Airport is at the top of the network priority list, etc, to no avail.  I end up having to reboot my MBP to get reconnected, which is super frustrating.

    Hello ghesser,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with Wi-Fi on your MacBook Pro after setting up your Time Capsule.  I would be concerned about this too.
I recommed reviewing the full article and specifically the section labeled, "Symptom: The network connection drops unexpectedly" in the following article to resolve an issue like the one you described:

  • Time Capsule Hangs with USB Drive Connected after installing 10.5.6 update

The 10.5.6 update basically made my External USB Disk connected to the Time Capsule unusable. I've repaired the permissions as suggested in other posts - this did not fix the problem.
I was unable to perform any incremental backups initially after the 10.5.6 update, so I archived my sparsebundle and created a new one by doing a full fresh backup - which completed successfully. However, after the backup, I was unable to connect to the Time Capsule or the USB drive connected to the Time Capsule via Finder - when trying to connect, my computer hangs and I'm forced to do a hard restart of BOTH my computer AND the Time Capsule, if I just restart one or the other the problem persists. If I let the connection attempt run long enough I get an "Error Code: -8072" message and still have to do a hard restart. After the hard restart of my computer and Time Capsule I'm able to connect to the Time Capsule and the USB drive connected to Time Capsule just fine. However, once the Time Machine backup runs again - the same problem returns, I can no longer access the Time Capsule or the USB drive connected to Time Capsule via Finder and have to do a hard restart of BOTH my computer AND Time Capsule. This 10.5.6 update has been havoc, anyone have the same troubles or ideas for resolving this? Before updating to 10.5.6 my system was working flawlessly with Time Capsule and the connected USB drive.
UPDATE: I've just verified that this problem only occurs with my external LaCie Hard Drive connected to Time Capsule via USB. If I disconnect my LaCie Hard Drive from the Time Capsule and restart the Time Capsule everything works fine (backups, access to Time Capsule Disk from Finder). If I connect the LaCie Hard Drive via USB to the Time Capsule, I am able to access the LaCie Hard Drive in Finder UNTIL the next Time Machine backup. After the first Time Machine backup with the USB drive connected, I can no longer access the USB drive from Finder - Finder hangs and eventually produces "Error Code: -8072". If I disconnect the USB drive, then plug it back in - Finder no longer hangs and I can access the drive connected to Time Capsule until the next backup occurs.
Anybody have ANY ideas? This worked fine before the 10.5.6 update!

I am having a similar problem. Never tried it before installing 10.5.6, but have a Time Capsule (500GB) with a 1TB WD MyBook Essential Edition connected via USB. Hardware is password protected by authorized users of network and needs separate login to access. When I initially set it up, it worked fine (though too difficult to set up). The WD storage drive showed up in Finder window as a subset of the Time Capsule after clicking on the Time Capsule icon. I had an "-8072" error message yesterday that I ignored, but then the file contents of the WD storage drive took forever to be viewed in Finder (though video files could be accessed wirelessly). Today started having a problem... coincidentally?... after a Time Machine backup, and got the message: "The operation could not be completed. An unexpected error occurred (error code -8072)." Now I am unable to get into the WD drive when I click on "Connect As" on the Time Capsule icon in the Finder menu... I just get the -8072 error. I no longer even see the Time Capsule disk as a subset of the Time Capsule icon in the Finder Toolbar.
    What is going on???

  • After I configure my time capsule to my newly replaced macbook hard drive, are my old backups still available?

After I configure my time capsule to my newly replaced macbook hard drive, are my old backups still available?

How old was this backup? It sounds like it was at least several weeks old.
You can look directly in the TM backup for the music.
    1. Connect to the external HDD the backup is kept on.
    2. Open a Finder window and select the backup drive in the left hand panel. Double click into the folders until you see a list of folders with dates.
These are the incremental backups. You can start at the top or the bottom of the list but I suggest you double Latest/<HDD Name>/Users/<Account Name>/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Music. From this location you can start looking for the "missing" music. When/if you find it you can simply drag-n-drop to ~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Music on the internal HDD.
If the music is actually not in the backups (for whatever reason) then you've got a problem.
You can download the uploaded files from the cloud by deleting the affected tracks from the iTunes library (but not the cloud!), highlighting multiple tracks at once, right-clicking and choosing "download."

  • After hard reset my time capsule is not found in airport even though its light is green so cannot reset

After hard reset the time capsule is not found in airport even though i have reconnected in proper order - says backup disc not found

Something is wrong because a hard reset will never leave the TC with green LED.
    What version TC.. what firmware??
    What OS on the computer?

  • HT201250 After setting up my time capsule, I noticed that my iphoto library and music was not backed up.  The documents and .jpg's was back up, do I need to do something else in the set up?

After setting up the time capsule, and completing a full back up, I noticed my iphotos and music was not backup.  I have all my documents and .jpg files but no music from Itunes or photos from iphoto?  Do I need to set something else up?

Can I ask you how you know your photos and music are not backed up?
Open a Finder window to your Pictures folder (you should see your current iPhoto Library file). Go to the Time Machine icon in the menubar, then click Enter Time Machine to use the TM interface, and go back in time to a random point. Is the iPhoto Library file still there? If so, it's being backed up.
If not, is there any chance you've excluded those folders from TM preferences? Click Options on the TM system preference panel and see if you have exclusions.

  • Can't mount or access Time Capsule shared drive after installing Mavericks

    Hi everyone,
I upgraded my MacBook Pro to Mavericks (10.9.2) last weekend and everything went fine at first.
However, after copying and moving several files from-to my Time Capsule, I can't access the shared drive anymore.
My Time Capsule is installed in a LAN and I can see it from all computers (it prompts for the security password). However, even as the "Data" volume in TC is shown on Finder, I cannot access it or browse any of the files on it, neither the backup files (sparsbundle) not the regular folders/files we kept there as a shared volume. (see screenshots). All I see is the "Data" folder as a "Sharepoint" (?). When I double click I see an error message: "The operation can't be completed because the original item for "Data" can't be found" (see screenshots attached).
I ran Airport Utility 6.3.2 and everything seems to be working well on the Time Capsule. It shows a solid green light and the firmware is up to date (7.6.4).
I need to recover my files from the drive (I don't care too much about the backup files as I can recreate them from scratch). I've been reading support forums all morning and couldn't figure out a way to do it.
I also tried the "Archive" function from Airport Utility to copy everything on TC to a USB drive and nothing happens (all I get is a Time Machine backup folder with zero items in it).
Any ideas on how to recover the files on the drive would be great!
    Thanks.

Have you tried shutting down the Time Capsule and then restarting it? Have you tried resetting it?
See pages 28 and 29. Using Airport Utility (page 29), I don’t see the options the manual says are there. I have done a reset and a full reset (page 28) many times and it has always straightened out the Time Capsule.

  • After installing Mavericks my Time Capsule gives me this error... The backup disk image "/Volumes/*.sparsebundle" is already in use.

can't say much more than the above other than I can't access any previous backups and it won't backup the current information.  Any solution would be appreciated. Thanks

    The down and dirty solution......
Make sure that no other Macs are backing up at the time
Pull the power cord from the back of the Time Capsule
    Count to ten
Plug the power cord back into the back of the Time Capsule
Wait a few minutes and try another backup.
    A bit more elegant solution......
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click on the Time Capsule icon, then click Edit
Click the Base Station menu at the uppermost top of the screen where the Help, File, Window, etc menus appear
    Click Restart
Wait a few minutes and try another backup

  • Airport Extreme/Time Capsule backup volume could not be found?

I am having problem with Time Machine. When I try to backup using Time Machine, I get an error message, " The backup volume could not be found." Strangely, Time Machine recognized the drive when setting the Time Machine preferences, but not when I backup.
If i select from the 'select disk' again and try again i get Keychain Access error 25299 and have to delete that in the Keychain for it to even get to the point of counting down to start back up
I have erased my Time Capsule recently and was starting fresh but now i cannot get time machine running again...
In the shared section of the finder the time machine backup is only appearing in the network area rather than directly there...
    Any ideas?
    Many thanks.

    Hi there.
I would suggest First Aid of your Keychain, but that hardly ever works (especially in this situation).
What I would do first, is go to ~/Library/Keychains/, grab the login.keychain and move it to the desktop. Log out, and log back in again. If that fixes it, then get the old login.keychain from the desktop and put it in the trash. (You will lose all your saved passwords for networks etc.)
If that doesn't work, unfortunately the only option would be to do an Archive & Install.
So you just need to put your 10.6 disk in again and install over the system.
Your personal data/files should still remain intact. Although I would still suggest making a backup (ironic considering the situation)
    Cheers

  • Time Capsule "Data" Volume won't Mount

I've been using a Time Capsule (4th Gen/2TB) for both my rMBP Time Machine backups and as a NAS device. After upgrading to Mountain Lion, I've experienced some problems. For the past few weeks, my Time Machine backups have been frequently interrupted with an error message stating that my Backup Disk is non-journaled and non-extended, and to please choose an alternate disk.  Although unsettling, after pressing return - and upon connecting the power cord (as I opted only to backup when using the power cord), Time Machine has always propmtly resumed.  This has probably occurred daily.
Today however, I've been unable to actually mount the Data volume, although my network is functioning properly, and I can access the Internet.  The Time Capsule status indicator is green, its icon appears in the Finder sidebar, and Airport Utility recognizes it and displays its correct settings.  Upon trying to connect (via Finder), however, an error message states that the server (in this case, the Time Capsule, I guess) can't be located, and suggets I check my network settings and try again.  Needless to say, the settings appear fine.
An admittedly brief search within this forum yielded no discussions concerning this specific problem, but I'm hoping the community's more knowledgable members will be able to at least provide some helpful insights, if not a solution to this problem.
The inability to back up my rMBP, access my spasebundle, or manage my externally stored files is very disconcerting.  Any solutions, or insights regarding this issue will be gratefully received.
    Michael Henke

There is clearly a bug in Lion that was exacerbated in Mountain Lion, which Apple is yet to fess up to. This loss of connection happens and there is no fix I can give you other than reboot to get the network running again.
I would strongly recommend against using the TC as a NAS.. it is designed as a backup target for Time Machine.
If you want a NAS then buy a true NAS, synology or Qnap, being the top products in that field. They have raid and automatic backup with units where you can access hard disks and can replace them. TC is a sealed unit without any way to back itself up. The design was never as a NAS.
Since your TC is an older one, can you try running 7.5.2 firmware. None of the TC made in the last year or more can go back that far.. they are all stuck on 7.6, the earlier Gen4 did have 7.5.2 which I think has better stability..
Now exactly what issues come up with ML I am not sure, but I would be interested to hear your experience.
Please do a backup particularly of your itunes before you start fiddling.
Is the TC main router in the network or is it bridged? I have a few suggestions for each type of setup, which may keep it running longer.. but nothing is absolute fix.
Note also the TC seems to be the main problem device.. but the OS does still have issues.. some changes were made with AFP security at Lion, which have not worked very well.

  • Time Capsule - Can't change network password after 10.6.3 update

Has anyone else experience an issue changing the Time Capsule network password after updating to Snow Leopard 10.6.3? If so did you find a work around? After the update I'm no longer able to change the Time Capsule network password when accessing it from Airport Utility. The utility will say that Time Capsule has updated the network password to the new one but when I check keychain it shows the old password. I tried resolving this by deleting the original keychain then changing it again in Airport Utility but it still shows the old password in the keychain and Airport Utility when I reopen the app.

    HI,
Checkthe vendor site for Snow Leopard compatibility. The developer may need to update their software.

  • Time Capsule won't connect to network after factory reset

    Hello
I have reset my time capsule back to factory settings, After this was completed the time capsule will no longer connect to my network.
When airport utility is launched the app will search for the time capsule. Then when the app is gathering information at the reading previous settings stage air port utility quits unexpectedly (There is a report, this can be attached if any one needs it)
The light on the time capsule is flashing amber.
    Does anyone have any ideas?
Im running a mac book pro with lion 10.7.3
    Cheers Dan

If you reset the Time Capsule back to Factory Default Settings, the Time Capsule is now broadcasing a default wireless signal with a name like Apple Network xxxxxxx.
Click the AirPort icon at the top of your Mac's screen and make sure that you are logged onto that network....no password is required.
    Then, open AirPort Utility.
You should see the xxxxxx number displayed in the upper left hand corner of the window when you click on Other AirPort Base Stations
Or, if you do not want to connect using wireless for the configuration, temporarily connect an Ethernet cable from your Mac to one of the three LAN <-> ports on the back of the Time Capsule and then open AirPort Utility.
If you still experience issues, check to make sure that you are following Apple's instructions for the default reset in this support document:
Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule FAQ
We have also seen reports from users about difficulties with the new version of AirPort Utility.
Download and install the full feature version of AirPort Utility 5.6 for Mac OS X Lion to see if that will work.

  • After upgrading to lion Time Capsule is solid yellow

    Hi
After upgrading to lion I am experiencing a lot of problems with time caspule
    1. backup fail: it starts and than fails (error message and yellow warning triangle)
    2. unable to connect to TC disk, neither from airport utility, nor from Finder
    3. Airport Utility hangs while trying to manually modify configuration (rainbow weel).
After a lot of reboot,  reset, disk rename, time capsule reconfiguration etc etc AND TC DISK REINITIALIZATION (ALLA BACKUP LOST!)
now backup seems to work and I can browse files in Time Machine
    BUT
Time Capsule is a steady YELLOW and Airport utility says there is an error on disk (The disk is not working)
    Can somebody help me.
This all happened after Lion installation. Not a problem before
    Franco

    Hi William
The disk is the internal Time Capsule Disk. It's a 1Tb model.
My iMac is localized in Italian
So I write here the Italian message and a possible translation
The first error message I get opening Airport Utility is:
Utility Airport ha trovato una Time Capsule 802.11n (2.a generazione) che segnala problemi
(AirPort Utility has found a Time Capsule 802.11n (2nd generation), which indicates problems)
If I press on "Continue" I enter a page that says
"Problema 1 di 1: Il disco Time Capsule non funziona"
(Problem 1 of 1: The Time Capsule Disk doesn't work)
"Si è verificato un problema con il Disco Time Capsule. Collega un disco rigido USB al tuo disco Time Capsule e utilizza il pannello Dischi di Utility Airport per archiviare i dati ed eseguire il backup."
(There was a problem with the Time Capsule disk. Connect a USB hard drive to your Time Capsule disk and use Disk Utility Airport panel to store data and run the backup.)
While if I go to the manual settings and I select the disk,
on the disk data info I have
    Stato S.M.A.R.T.: Non funziona
    (S.M.A.R.T status: Not working)
As I said before, apart from that problem, everything else (time machine, backups and file recovery) looks working good (until proven otherwise eh eh)
I don't know if to worry about the disk but I find suspicious that everything just started after Lion installation.
I called the call center and they just said to return the TC for disk repair (have to pay, warranty expired).
I told them about Lion installation fact and they said it looks like a coincidence but actually it is likely that after a disk initialization or a big amount of data writing the TC disk may break (WHAT ?!?)  and the Apple guy even suggested me to buy an external disk that is less expensive and give less problem than a TC !!!!
(I can agree on that now, but I was surprised to hear that from them )
Thank you very much for any help.
    I hope this info helps
