After 10.5.7 Brother MFC-5460CN problems

After installing the 10.5.7 update my Brother MFC-5460CN printer has gone crazy. For example if I set the quality of printing to anything less than Normal, such as "Fast Normal" or "Fast" the print job either expands or shrinks the print and sometimes prints weird bars across the page. I have tried deleting the print driver and then re-selecting it, if tried turning off the printer, reconnecting the printer to a new port, rebooting the system, all to no avail. Any other ides?

Ok thanks, but has stopped working, I cannot send mail. from a Windows when trying to send a mail it gives a failure me of cyrus, and from mac when sending mail gives problem me with server.
Probe the methods that worked in the past and nothing

  • Scanner is gone after the last update - Brother MFC 250-C

Nach dem letzten Update fehlt dem Druckertreiber die Scanner funktion.
Vorher habe ich noch den Drucker als Scanner genutzt.
    Brother Druckertreiber geht auch nicht.
After the last update of the printer driver, the scanner function is missing
Previously I've used the printer as a scanner.
Brother printer drivers will not work.

The same thing  happened to my HP all in one scanner/printer/fax.  Actually this has happened with every update from Apple.  I don't think the printer manufacturer is the issue.

  • Error Message from Brother MFC Printer

I have a Brother MFC-5460CN attached to my Mac (B&W G3 with G4/600 upgrade, 10.4.11) via USB. When I start up my Mac or when I plug in the printer or turn it on, I get the following error message:
Failed to connect to the device.
    - Check the I/F cable connection between the device and your computer.
    - Please turn OFF the device once, and then turn ON the device again.
    Then try again.
    [MTW005]
The error message has an "OK" box, but you can't click on it. All I can do is move it off to the corner of the desktop.
The same thing happens on my daughter's eMac with a different Brother MFC, also running 10.4.11, and also happens if I boot my B&W into 10.3.9.
Anybody know what this means and how I can get rid of it?

    Hi Bill,
Look for a "TwainBridge" driver in Activity Monitor, then kill it/force quit it. That will get rid of that Window.
    Maybe try reinstalling it...

I've heard that just reinstalling was needed, so I'd try that first, if it doesn't work you can delete it.

  • Firefox will not open in Vista SP2 after installing software for a Brother MFC printer.

I have 7 computer network. All the machines are running Vista SP2. I recently purchased a Brother MFC 9325cw, and installed the printer/scanner drivers as well as a program called scansoft paperport on each of the machines individually.
I left out the some of the bulkier aspects of the driver package, namely the brother control center because it seems to eat up a lot ram at start up.
Since I have installed the printer driver on my computers, several of them will not open firefox.
I have tried re-installing firefox on one machine so far to no avail.
Next I will try to re-install the brother software. Has anyone else encountered this problem before?

It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full, unrestricted, access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • Scanning issue after installing 10.6.6 - Brother MFC-9120CN

After running and installing update 10.6.6, the scan function of my Brother MFC-9120CN let me operate only one scan. The first one runs ok, pdf no issue.
When I try another scan, either commanding it on the printer or through the Control Center software from Brother, it makes a bip at the middle of the scan and quick out the Control Center software. No way to run another scan unless I swith off the printer and restart my MBP13". Then again, only the first scan is fine, irrespective of number of pages. Just one scan session is fine.
I have tried to uninstall Brother drivers, re-install factory cd drivers, downloaded last drivers, dowloaded last software from Brother, nothing changes.
Any idea what I am doing wrong in the process or what I should be doing?
I should add that the 10.6.6 update provoked a major issue on my MBP13" and I had to resintall from the DVD the OS and run the update. This with the help of the Apple assistance.
Beside this issue, all functions are running fine on my Mac.
    Thanks for your inputs

Just back everything up... pop the dvd in; erase the partition in disk utility and create a fresh install of Snow Leopard.... If it's not hardware related everything should work... Sometimes it's not the update itself but applications of various and diverse users that can cause the problems... It would be impossible for apple to know about all the various combinations of software that can cause these problems.... When in doubt... I back my stuff up and install a fresh copy... (ERASE THE PARTITION) not just install over mac osx again. But have you tried installing over your copy of osx yet? Its not like windows... you don't lose anything when you install OSX again... You only lose your data if you erase the partition!!

  • Can't print to Networked Brother MFC-7420 Printer after installing 10.6

A few days ago my dad decided to finally take the plunge and let me upgrade his operating system from 10.5 to Snow Leopard 10.6.6 on his Imac.
Ever since then I have been unable to print to his Brother MFC-7420 printer.
The printer is connected to his Imac via USB and I connect to his printer through our Linksys Router on my laptop MacBook Pro. The downside about this setup is that his computer has to be physically on for me to be able to see and/or print to the printer.
When he was running 10.5 I was able to print to his printer with no problems but now that he is running 10.6 I can "see" the printer but when I sent a print job to it the Print Queue for the Brother on my screen says "Connecting to Printer" and never gets any further.
Printer Sharing is turned on as usual allowing "Everyone" on the network to print. I've tried removing and reinstalling the driver on my computer to no avail, I haven't tried doing the same to his computer.
A side note to make though, when my dad is running 10.5 on his machine and I try to add the Printer via my Print&Fax the system will automatically set the "Print Using" to the correct Brother MFC-7420 Cups" driver. However, if he is running 10.6 my system just comes up with the "Generic PostScript Printer".
Is there something I should do on his end or my end so that "my" computer can print again to his printer?
Any suggestions are appreciated, if any of you need more info feel free to post and I'll try to help. Thanks!

A couple of suggestions for you.
Ensure you have installed the MFC-7420 OS X 10.6 CUPS driver on both Mac's.
Open Print & Fax and select the Default view and select the shared printer. When your Print Using menu selects Generic Postscript, change this menu to 'Select printer software' and then search for the 7420 driver. According to Brother support the driver name will be listed as "MFC-7420 + CUPS".

  • Cannot add networked Brother MFC-7820N after upgrading to Leopard

    Hi,
I did a clean install of Leopard on a new drive I installed on my Macbook. Then I migrated my account from an old drive which was running the latest version of Tiger.
Leopard is running fine, except that I cannot add my networked printer (Brother MFC-7820N). According to Brother, the printer drivers come with the Leopard CD. In the /Library/Printers/Brother directory there sub-directories for Brother LUT, Filter, Icons, Profiles, Utilities. So I think the drivers are present.
In the Print & Fax system preference, I click to add a printer and nothing shows up under "Default". According to Brother's instructions, the printer should show up. Is the MFC-7820N Bonjour capable?
Is there something else I need to do? I am not running control center like I did under Tiger.
    Any help would be appreciated.
Network is a wireless network with the printer attached to a netgear wireless router.

Okay, I found the answer to the problem. It is a Brother configuration, not a Leopard one. Needed to setup Bonjour on the printer by configuring the mDNS properly.
From a browser, go to your printer using the ip address. Click on Network configuration link. Default user/password is: admin/access. Find the "mDNS" link, click on it. Then configure with a name such as BrotherMFC and select enable. Once this is setup, then clicking on "+" in the print and fax system preference works.

  • Printing problem in Mavericks with Brother MFC-6800

I installed Mavericks, then downloaded the Brother MFC-6800 printer and scanner drivers, then used Software Update. I continually get a message that the printer is not connected. When you pull out the USB cable the driver shows no connection but when you plug the USB cable back in it still says not connected. If you start both the printer and computer you can get one successful print but after that you can't print because it says the printer is not connected. Every time I restart there is a second Brother printer driver installed.
The scanning software from Brother hangs when trying to scan. Image Capture doesn't even see the Brother scanner.
It seems to me Brother needs to release a new driver.
    Does anyone know anything else?

  • Printing problem, can't connect to Brother MFC-7420 and HP DJ130

I recently performed the 10.5.4 upgrade. I believe the problem I am having started then. When I try to print something to my Brother MFC-7420 I get a Printing Page 1, 24% completed message and it never finishes. I am also having issues with my Designjet 130. Both are connected with a USB cord and I have tried the usual powering off, connecting/disconnecting and removing/adding to printer control panel. My Epson printer connects and prints normal. Any suggestions?

Similar problem being experienced here. My Brother MFC 7420 was working fine one day and is lost to my system the next. Any attempt to print just stalls with a message like "Printing 25%" or some such figure.
I've tried uninstalling the driver, updating the latest driver from Brother, updating the Brother driver from Apple, switched USB cables, and finally talked to a helpful Brother phone support technician who got me to try to re-install from the Leopard DVD. When I open the Optional Installs and open Printer Drivers, the Brother drivers are greyed out. He said it was an Apple problem, and thats where I'm at right now.
The G4 is one year out of its 3 year Protection Plan so I presume I'll get no help from Apple.Given the number of posts dealing with this problem, it does seem to be related to the 10.5.4 upgrade but I've not heard anything constructive from Apple on this issue. Anyone got any ideas?

  • Problems printing with Brother MFC-240C and HP 810C

(iMac 20inch 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo) I just got a Brother MFC-240C Printer/Scanner/Fax and followed the steps to set it up but my colors are all off. In illustrator Green comes out like mud but orange comes out fine. From Photoshop the Green comes out lighter. I’ve checked the User’s Guide and it has nothing for this problem. I’m also going to check their website’s support section but I believe it’s my computer that’s not working correctly. Before my Brother MFC-240C I had a HP 810C what worked fine until I got the new iMac 20inch 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with Tiger and I had printer problems from that point on.
    Please can anyone help?

I tried the ColorSync first aid and this is what I got,
    Searching for profiles...
    Checking 1555 profiles...
    /Library/ColorSync/Profiles/150-Line (Pantone)
Tag 'gamt': Number of input channels is not correct. Could not be fixed.
Tag 'gamt': Number of output channels is not correct. Could not be fixed.
    /Library/ColorSync/Profiles/HEXNSID2.icm
Tag 'A2B0': Required tag is not present. Could not be fixed.
Tag 'A2B1': Required tag is not present. Could not be fixed.
Tag 'A2B2': Required tag is not present. Could not be fixed.
Tag 'gamt': Required tag is not present. Could not be fixed.
Repair done - 0 out of 2 profiles fixed.
I can’t make heads or tails out of all that.

Im having trouble witht my MacBook Pro and my Brother MFC 8460N.  I was at one time able to scan from the printer to my MB Pro, now I can still print but can no longer scan.  Any suggestions?  Thanks.

  • Brother MFC 7440N - cannot see printer on network after software update!

Hi I have done a software update to OSX 10.8.3 on my macbook pro. But now I can't see my Brother MFC 7440N printer on the network. I have been on the Brother website and have downloaded all of the software / drivers for MAC, but there doesn't seem to be one for OSX 10.8.4. Can anyone suggest what I should do next.
By the way, I have already tried to reset the printers etc, but that didn't work as the printer cannot be found on the network.

From the printer (check your manual)
In case you can't find the manual here is the relevant section.
You're not going to change it so stop at section 4 (IP Address) don't proceed to 5 (Change)

  • Driver problem for Brother MFC-9560CDW

I just purchased a Brother MFC-9560CDW and I can't get any drivers to install.  I'm running OS X 10.8.5.  I have been putting off installing OS X Mavericks because of some of the negative reviews.  Not sure if this could be a solution.  Any assistance or information would be greatly appreciated.
    Chris

According to this Apple page, your printer is supported:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3669
Suggest you try connecting the printer and setting it up assuming the drivers are already installed.
Is this is a wireless connection you want to create?

  • Scanning multiple pages with preview and brother MFC-7440n

    Hi,
because of some problems with my old scanner after i installed snow leopard, i bought a new compatible one. It's a brother MFC-7440n with apple build-in drivers.
When i start scanning to preview with more than one page, there will be a pdf document for every page. It doesn't matter if i choose "create just one document".
First i wondered because in leopard preview multiple pages are displayed like in snow leopard. But this is wrong. There is one pdf file for every page.
How can i change that issue? When i scan more than one page, i wan't one pdf document with multiple pages, not a pdf per page.
    Thanks a lot.
    Dominik

    Hi Dominik,
What about Brother's scanner software? Do they have a scan program you can use to create multiple page documents? I have a Canon, and its software did that. The only other way is how I explained in my previous post. I have no issue using Preview for the simple document scanning I do. But if you have more needs, perhaps the Brother scan program should be installed.
Brother has issued a scanner driver update on 9/10....

  • IMac OSX 10.9.5 Shows Brother MFC 8710DW Printer Is "Offline" and "Not Connected T

I have a Brother MFC 8710 DW that I've had for the past 4 months. It works perfectly fine with my other devices (iPad, iPhone, Windows PC and Macbook Pro) but it doesn't work with my iMac OSX 10.9.5. I did the things listed below but it keeps on telling me that the printer is not connected to my computer and whenever I check its status, it keeps on saying "offline." I've tried to contact Apple and they said that it's Brother's problem and that I should speak with them. However, when I called Brother, they said that it's Apple's problem. I'm at lost on what I need to do. As much as I love my iMac, I am tempted to return it back. Please help.
Things I've done so far but did not fix the problem:
    1. Unplugged the printer, iMac and router and plugged it back in after a few minutes.
    2. Removed the printer from my iMac and added it back.
    3. Reinstalled the software from Brother.
    4. Repaired the disk.
    5. Plugged the printer and router directly to the wall.
    6. Turned off and restarted my iMac and printer.
    7. Downloaded the most recent OSX software.

It sounds unusual that you have been able to remove the Brother from Printers & Scanners on the iMac and add it back again, yet get a printer offline message.
Since you mention a router, is the Brother connected to it via a physical cable, such as USB? Or do you have a wireless router and the printer is connected to it via WiFi?
On the iMac, could you also open System Information (located in Applications > Utilities) and select Printers in the left column. If the Brother is the only printer on the iMac then its information will appear in the right pane. If you have more than one printer, then you will have a list of those printers in the top right pane. Select the Brother to see its information in the bottom right pane. Can you copy this information and paste back here. And since the MacBook Pro is printing okay, can you perform the same action on it so I can compare the setup for the same printer.
