After 10.5.7 update : sync problem
I have the same problem as these gentlemen.
http://www.officeformac.com/ProductForums/Office/[email protected]@
It seems to be related to 10.5.7
Never had this before.
As M$oft is mute as usual (laptop hunters anyone ?),
I thought someone could help here…
10.5.7 was made with Combo
I first removed syncing ~/Library/PubSub but this did not help too much.
I removed the contents of ~/.FileSync from clients (2) and server. Since the clients have FileVault home dirs that requires being logged in everywhere.
The old SQLite db in ~/.FileSync directory was 16MB, the new one 1.8MB. After that, I have seem an improved responsiveness. Still not something extremely fast, but good enough.
It would be good if there was some sort of 'reclaim' functionality in the SQLite db that underlies home syncing, just like there is for FileVaulted home directories.

The problem of app updates not syncing properly (error messages) has been discussed before and the best solution I have seen is to remove the app and then reinstall it by syncing via the iPhone Applications tab in iTunes.
However, this has the effect of wiping any data associated with the application. For instance I have just updated eReader which has deleted all my downloaded books!
Has anyone come up with a better solution to this? Of course, the whole update process should work without any of this messing about, and I believe it does for some people. I would love to know why none of my updates now work properly whether done from the iPhone or from iTunes. Hopefully Apple will address this in a future software update.
NickWell all, throw my hat into the ring as well... I have an original 8GB iPhone with version 2.1 installed. the phone works great except when it comes to installing upgraded Applications. It just will NOT install the Application upgrades and I am not about to throw days worth of data that has been applied to certain Apps. So until a fix comes along I guess I will use the version I have installed. Here is the error message I am receiving:
"Some of the applications in your iTunes library were NOT installed on the iPhone "****" because one or more errors occurred. (See below):"
The application "*******" was NOT installed on the phone "****" because an unknown error occurred (0xE800002E)
In my case I had 6 updates that did NOT upgrade because of the above error. The above error code was the same for ALL of them...
Like all have said in this thread, hoping a fix comes soon and only Apple can do it, which they no doubt will, hopefully the next update they do.......................................

Airpot update. sync problems. etc.
so to those of us who had this problem and had to switch off airport everytime we were using our apps, i have been reading the different discussions and people have said that there was an update released to this. however i have not seen any to download when i check my software update. i have another computer which does not even have logic and suffers from the same symptoms in other applications and when i check the software update it says everything is up-to date!
do i have to get it from somewhere else?
thanks! In addition to power draw problems when charging from USB there are also bandwidth problems on each USB header. (UHCI) Each header controls one or two USB channels, and each channel can control multiple devices if a HUB is used.
However, the total bandwidth can never exceed 480 Mbps for Hi-Speed USB 2.0.
People who have USB external disks, or USB network controllers can easily over-run the bandwidth available on any UHCI.
I personally have never had a problem using a HUB, but all of my hubs are externally powered, and I don't have any high-bandwidth devices other than the iPhone connected to the hub.
Yours sounds like it could be more related to bandwidth than power, but who knows. -

After 10.9.2 update, boot problems
Late 2011, mac bookpro, did the 10.9.2 Mevericks update last night, all restart well, worked with it a few hours then turn it off, this morning it will not give me a welcome or password screen, stayed before, just blank Please help?
Thanks for the help! What I did was press Shift to start up on Safe Mode, then did well so the recommendation was to restart immediately, I did and it took a bit longer the first couple times to pass from gray screen to the welcome screen, but now is working well. It did mess up some log in app's 3rd party but, re enter them and is fine.
Hope Apple will advise on this conflicts with 3rd party app's if that was the case, so we know what to do if something happens. Is all great now, thank for your help!! -
Syncing and music problem after iOS 4.3 update
Hi there
I updated to iOS 4.3 and found that my phone would no longer sync to my PC. After doing some research and trying lots of things (e.g. removing and reinstalling iTunes, de and reauthorising computer, forcing iphone to restart) I was having no luck so I did a restore. This didn't work either and just hung for hours, so had no choice but to stop it and then my partner managed to get my iPhone back to life on his Mac.
My iTunes then recognised it as new and I was able to start rebuilding my library. However, when I sync music to my iPhone now, it won't play - it just flashes up for a second and then crashes out. Only happens on my music - podcasts play fine. Haven't tried video yet. It also flashes up the album artwork but it is all distorted (cut in half with the bottom half at the top and vice versa...weird).
I tried downloading a song on my iPhone which played fine, until I then synced it with the computer and it got the same error as the others.
Any ideas?! I'm planning to uninstall iTunes again tonight (being sure to completely remove any trace) and erase all data and settings from the iPhone so I can start completely afresh. It's the only solution I can think of.
Thanks
AlanI have discovered this is a problem with Windows 7 Updates (probably Service Pack 1) for me - after I installed the updates all my music corrupted again and iTunes started freezing and not backing up. Lo and behold, after formatting my computer again and not installing ANY Windows Updates, the problem was fixed and I've been able to add all my music back.
Now I'm not sure what to do - I would like to get Windows updated, but I know it's going to break my phone. Am tempted to try a different iPod manager software to see if that helps.
Where do I get the iTunes patch? (sorry if it's really obvious) -
New Outlook sync problem after update!!!
I had the 'original' Outlook sync problem, which went away after the iTunes update to 7.3.1, but now, after the iPhone update last night, I have an entirely NEW Outlook sync problem!!
When I sync the iPhone, right when it gets to the 'syncing contacts' part (that you see in the top box/window in iTunes) I get an error message that I haven't seen before. It says "AppleMobileDeviceHelper has encountered a problem and needs to close..." and it gives me the option to send an error report. I dismiss the error box, and the sync process hangs, and iTunes becomes unresponsive.
If I open Outlook, the two Apple sync oblects are still enabled, and get no error message. If I re-open iTunes and try to sync again, it only syncs iTunes content, and never even tries to sync my contacts or calendar.
Anyone having anything similar since last night? The only thing different is the iPhone firmware update.I just cancelled the sync by using the slider. I didn't realize I could do that. The phone seems fine. I may try it again and see what happens.
-
I installed the iTunes update and the 3.1 iPhone update. I had no problems with those at all. I then decided to sync my phone. My syncs usually only take a few minutes. My phone has been on "syncing iPhone" for at least an hour. It hasn't moved to backing up phone or anything.
I'm not sure whether to just let it continue or if there is something else I should do. The sync process is using nearly 100 percent of my cpu on the computer and I could barely get anything else open to get to this forum and type this message.
Any suggestions are welcome. Is anyone else having unusual syncing experience since the update? What will happen if it never progresses and I just need to unplug it? What will I need to do with the iPhone?
In my year of having the iPhone I've never had a sync problem before. Thanks for any help.I just cancelled the sync by using the slider. I didn't realize I could do that. The phone seems fine. I may try it again and see what happens.

Sync problems after iTunes Match update
iTunes Match has created an ongoing sync problem for me. If Match updates automatically based on songs I've purchased from the iTunes store, then I usually have no issues with the sync function. However, if I load a CD that is not in the Match library, or if I just manually do an update to Match, it causes my 160gb iPod to take 15-20 minutes to sync. Why is this happening?
I cannot sync my music but I get the message that it is connected but it is not recognised.
As advised on the error message I have reset the Nano and re-installed itunes with the same results.
Doublechecking. Have you tried a complete uninstall of both iTunes and all the other related software components and then a reinstall? If not, try the instructions from the following document:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8 -
After wasting a week troubleshooting several problems with two iPod Touch 2Gs, I have come to this conclusion. If everything is working correctly on your iPod Touch under iOS 3.1.x, *DO NOT UPDATE TO VERSION 4.0*!!! Apple will not take any responsibility for the problems it causes (though technical support will assist if your product is under warranty), nor compensate you for the time, money, and gas expended in diagnosing and finding a work around to THEIR problem. And, after reading many blogs, boards, and forums, I am not the only one experiencing problems with their software. Anyway, here are the problems I encountered with resolutions.
I tend to keep my computers very “CLEAN” and “ORGANIZED”. This was my configuration when EVERYTHING worked correctly (with a separate user account for each iPod Touch):
Acer Aspire One
Windows XP SP3
CA Internet Security Suite 2010
iTunes 9.2.1.4
iPod Touch 2G iOS 3.1.x
After receiving a notification to update the iPods to iOS 4.0 for a couple of months, I finally decided to “upgrade”. Everything seemed okay…download, extraction, installation, restore…until the final sync stage when it “froze” and eventually encountered an “iPod could not be restored…unknown error occurred (9)” error. This signifies that there is something wrong with the USB connection…it never had a problem before. Anyway, I followed the recommended resolutions which did not work. Finally had to “upgrade” the older iPod Touch to iOS 4.0 on my HP/Vista/Norton laptop, which ran the same version of iTunes. The “upgrade” was successful, so I performed the same routine on the newer iPod Touch, which was also successful. Unfortunately, once you “upgrade” to iOS 4.0, you cannot go back to iOS 3.1.x unless you jailbreak your iPod Touch…which voids the warranty!
The next problem I encountered occurred when I tried to sync either iPod Touch to the Acer netbook. The older iPod had an “iPod cannot be synced…device timed out” error, while the newer iPod took almost 30 minutes to complete…and there was nothing to sync since everything was unchecked. Various testing combinations revealed that it would start okay, backup okay, sync apps and contacts okay, but “freeze” in the final sync stage. Apple technical support could not help since they repeated everything I already performed, and were stupefied! The local Apple Store (which is on the other side of the island from me) couldn’t help either, though the technician there mentioned that he did see a lot of strange issues with netbooks and iPods. After various trial and error combinations, I finally found something that would work. Boot the Acer, log on, DISABLE THE WIRELESS LAN, start iTunes, connect the iPod Touch, then ENABLE THE WIRELESS LAN…sync works. If you disconnect the iPod or exit out of iTunes, you’ll need to DISABLE THE WIRELESS LAN before starting iTunes and connecting the iPod again. Talk about pain in the rear!!!
Well, I thought my troubles were over, but, iOS 4.0 is very creative at causing more. I finally got around to syncing my music, when what would happen…another “freeze”. This time, it would “freeze” when transferring my music from iTunes to the iPod, and eventually error with “iTunes could not copy…unknown error occurred (-20)”. Connecting all USB devices before booting computer, deleting all iPod backups, restarting all iPod/iTunes services, disabling firewall and snoozing AV protection…nothing worked. So, I finally uninstalled the CA Internet Security Suite, and I was then able to sync music from iTunes to the iPod. As a test, I reinstalled the CA Internet Security Suite, and synced the iPod using the process mentioned in the paragraph above. And it works…as long as I’m only syncing and not TRANSFERRING MUSIC FILES!
I have not tried any other combination such as transferring apps or music from the iPod to iTunes, or syncing movies, TV shows, podcasts, etc. At this stage, I’m too busy, too tired, and brain damaged to troubleshoot further problems. But, I did notice one thing each problem had in common. It would “freeze” around the Bonjour process, which seemed to attempt network access. According to Apple technicians, the sync process should not access the network at all.
Hope this helps those of you who are stuck at the various stages mentioned. If you have further information about Bonjour or any other problem I mentioned, please leave a comment. And for Apple, *ADMIT THE PROBLEM WITH iOS 4.0, AND FIX IT*!!!Check your security software
Related errors: 2, 4, 6, 9, 1000, 1611, 9006. Sometimes security software can prevent your device from communicating with either the Apple update server or with your device.
Check your security software and settings to make sure that they aren't preventing a connection to the Apple servers.

After 5.0.1 update on iPhone 4 my phone will no longer sync.
After 5.0.1 update on iPhone 4 my phone will no longer sync. Keeps sitting there says "waiting for sync to start". Any ideas? It was fine before the update. I tried truning off the cloud but it made no difference. Tried on a different computer. Same thing.
I finally worked around Apple's problem. I synced my iPhone 4 phone with another computer. Lost my apps and music on the phone but still had my music database of almost 3,000 tunes. I then synced with another computer with the updated iTunes software they just sent out. Then had to rebuild my apps and music on the phone. I used Tune-Up plug-in to help with the music with covers and dupes, etc. It took me till 1 am last night but it's now working and syncing ok. I have about 1,000 tunes on the phone now, with no dupes and 95% of the cover artwork. Without Tune-Up it would take me a week to get the dupes out and covers for all the albums. I think the problems started when Apple tried to send the update directly to the iPhone rather than thru iTunes like they had always done before. I turned off the cloud and am syncing and backing up with my computer and home sharing is turned off. That method worked very well for the last few years. It seems like the combination of home sharing, the cloud and 5.0.1 software caused a lot of problems. Hopefully I have it under control now, or at least until the next software update. It was a major pita.

Sync problem: "The iPod cannot be updated. The required file is locked."
Hi,
I upgraded to iTunes 7.0. First thing I did with it was to upgrade the firmware of the iPod to 1.2.1. The model is a MA079NF (20GB, iPod Photo, color screen), have used it problem free for about year now.
After that I wanted to sync my Library and a popup showed "The iPod "mypod" cannot be updated. The required file is locked." After clicking ok (only option) the syncing continues, but in the end the iPod contains 2174 files (~10GB out of 20GB free space), while my library holds 2187 checked files. Also none of my photos are copied to the iPod.
After that, upgrading iTunes to 7.0.1.8 did not help either. The problem is the same. Resetting the iPod to factory defaults and subsequent re-syncing did not help either, only helped me waste an hour .
The error message is silly, it leaves me only with questions:
Which file is locked, where is it locked (on my PC or on the iPod), in what way is it locked, why is it locked, by whom is it locked and how do I unlock it?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Best wishes,
Henk.
Dell Dimension 5150c Windows XPHi,
After the exceptional help of the Apple people (i.e. nothing, nada, zero, null, no reaction, silence and so on, and so forth) I decided to take matters in my own hands again. Using the superb FileMon tool of sysinternals.com I found out the syncing of my iPod stopped while traversing my photo cache.
The solution was simple: Remove the directory "\iPod Photo Cache" completely (I made a backup, of course).
After that, iTunes built the cache from scratch and syncing was working properly again.
<sarcasm> Apple, thanks again for all your support. </sarcasm>
Best wishes nonetheless,
Henk van der Laak -
