After 10.6.3 update, have to do a SMC reset everytime to boot macbook pro
I just updated my MacBookPro3,1 to 10.6.3 (from 10.6.2) and now everytime I reset or turn off the computer, I have to reset the SMC before it will boot. Otherwise it will hang (i've left it for as long as 3 hours) at the initial gray screen before the apple logo appears.
What gives? I have everything backed up. Do I just need to format and reinstall? I don't want to have to do this because I will lose a days worth of work getting the computer back to normal functional status.
sebuchen1954, sometimes an audio problem can be completely independent of a video problem; for example, when GoToMeeting 4.1 ran on my computer, the video worked fine, but the audio was straight out of +Alvin and the Chipmunks+ when it went through a USB headset. (That problem was fixed in GoToMeeting 4.5.)
Is your partner running the latest Windows version of Skype (4.2.32.155 at this time)?
Since your partner has Windows, perhaps [AIM|http://products.aim.com/windows] (version 7.2.6.1 is currently the most recent version) would be a functional iChat analogue for Windows?

after i have downloaded an album from iCloud to my new macbook pro. Itunes will only play one song at a time. If i hit the fast forward or back button will not do anything. I have to use the mouse to hit the next tidal in the album then hit play for it to play the next song. Or put it in the UP NEXT.
First, make sure these items have checkmarks next to their names in iTunes. Continuous playback only works on checked items. Itunes will play all checked items in a list whether or not they're from the same album.
If you see that nothing in your library is checked and you want to check everything, hold down Ctrl while checking an item. This checks everything.
Next, fixing the "1 of 1" problem is easily. Select all the tracks that make up the book/album. Let's say there are 15. Press Ctrl-I. Doublecheck that the album box is filled in with the name of the book, and if not, type it there. Enter "15" in the box for the total number of tracks. Click OK. Now all the items should be "1 of 15," "2 of 15," and so on. -
When trying to update getting (error surle error domain error-1100). It started yesterday, any help would be great. I have Mountain Lion 10.8.1 on a new macbook pro with retina display.
There are many people suffering from this problem right now (including me). It appears to be a server issue. Just wait and try checking for updates again tomorrow.
Some things I have heard indicate that this may be a regional problem, though what parts of the world are affected I don't know yet. A few people have been helped by deleting the following preference file (paste the path into the Go -> Go to Folder window in the Finder to locate it), though most have not:
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist

Also, note that there is no reason to be anxious to get it, as the only thing added in iTunes 10.7 is compatibility with iOS 6, which will not be available until the 19th, and the new iPhone, which will not be available until later as well. The new iTunes that was announced is iTunes 11, which is also not yet available. -

FaceTime can run in the version of OS X that you currently have. To get Messageyou need Mountain Lion. The protocol used by Messages is iMeassage.

Note the date and time the problem occurred, then go to Applications/Utilities/Console and copy the log starting at the time of the crash. Paste the log in a reply. Please do not use a screen shot as they can be hard to read. If there are repeated runs of the same messages, please post only one run. Be selective about what you post and don’t post huge amounts. I purchased my MacBook Pro in August 2013. Am I suppose to have Pages, Numbers, and Keynote already installed on my MacBook Pro? Because I don't have them.
You may have to purchase them as Apple did not offer them with new Macs until after October 2013. Check the App Store. Whether free or fee, many are discovering that Pages v5 and later is the antithesis of word processing functionality. You would be better served with Office for Mac 2011 update 14.4.5, or the free LibreOffice.

Were you syncing over USB? If so, and you upgraded to Mavericks, you will have to switch your calendar to iCloud or another cloud-based option.
Syncing over USB is no longer an option in Mavericks.

every time i try to download updates i get an error and told to restart my macbook pro. why? what to do?
This is a rare error, so excuse me if I ask some basic questions:
1. Do you update your Apple software through the Software Update pulldown menu? If not, I'd suggest doing that.
2. Do you perform diagnostics? If not, you can perform a Permissions check by going to Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility and running it.
3. Do you perform other diagnostics? Download Onyx to your Mac, and perform a full diagnostic on your machine. You'll need to reboot.
4. Have you tried to download updates individually from Apple? Not the perfect solution, but there's a good chance it will work.
5. Have you used Terminal? If you go to Applications/Utilities/Terminal, type "sudo softwareupdate --install --all", and enter. Software Update should work.
6. If all fails, consult help at your Apple Store, if there's one nearby. -
Does NVMe update in 10.10.3 apply to early 2015 Retina Macbook Pro?
I was wondering if the NVMe update in 10.10.3 applies to early 2015 Retina Macbook Pros. It says on my hardware report that there is no NVMe device installed.
Probably not with the current SSD. Even though NVMe has been enabled in 10.10.3, I think you need an SSD that supports it, which the 2015 rMBP does not have at the moment (it's using a samsung AHCI controller, at least in the 128gb rMBP 13" 2015 - http://www.storagereview.com/apple_macbook_pro_samsung_ssd_review_march2015). Please correct me if I'm (hopefully!) wrong.
P.S. The drive still shows up under SATA/SATA Express -
I have an early 2008 and mid 2010 13 inch macbook pro running iTunes 10.7. Itunes on both machines doesn't recognize blank cds or allow me to import from a music cd when I insert it.
iTunes does not use the .xml it uses the .itl
If you are sure your old library file migrated across (does the file size and modification dates suggest it has?) start iTunes while holding down the option/alt key and guide it to the .itl file to get it to use that one. -
I have created a lengthy slideshow with music on my MacBook Pro under Iphoto. What steps do I need to take in order to burn a DVD copy of this slideshow? "Help" does not offer info for this transaction, only if you want to export to another Apple device and it shows that you must first export to Itunes. Can anyone help me with information on just copying to a DVD? I don't want to email it or show it on another Apple device. I want to be able to burn multiple copies on DVDs as a gift...... Can it be done? I'm not real computer savvy

I have installed a trial of Adobe illustrator on my macbook pro. It is the 2014 release of adobe illustrator. I want to trace an image using the custom trace button.
I start a new document. Then I place my scanned pencil/colored pencil drawing, in to the document. I have tried scanning and then placing it as a jpeg, bitmap, and tiff file. I have tried scanning and then placing it, in color and in black and white. The scan mode I use is flatbed. Adobe illustrator allows me to select the default button and one of eleven preset buttons (e.g high fidelity photo), but it does not allow me to click the custom trace button. The custom trace button is grey while all the other buttons are white.
Does anyone have any ideas how I could custom trace?It seems pointless to adjust it afterwards because it is then only a couple a pencil lines rather then a full drawing. And how do I adjust it afterwards? Would I do this using the different buttons under the window button?
