After 10.8.2 update my mac does not boot !

I stay on the gray screen.
With the recovery disk i try now to reinstal a frech  10.8.2 !
Thanks Apple !

If your problem is linked to the PARAGON Kext, you don't need your back-up. Just boot in save mode (Shift key), download your PARAGON Product and run the uninstaller from the Paragon Disk image.
To see if your problem is related to Parogon, first boot in console mode (command s) and after 5 lines the kernel is blocked by the Paragon Kext (you could read it on the screen).
For another issue boot on the recovery (option) and then chose your backup.

After installing 10.7.2 update the OS does not boot. I tried to recover from recovery hd disk but after 3 attempts I am still not able to download lion! Any thoughts????

Try the Lion Community, and bookmark the notebook community (this is not).
You will probably need to provide others with more information too.
Cloned backup? TimeMachine? using Disk Utilityh to repair Lion from the recovery partition (comnand r on startup)

  • After 10.6.5 update my mac will not reboot

After 10.6.5 update my mac will not reboot. It just spins at the white apple screen. Luckily boot camp works but, all of my important stuff is on the mac side. What can I do? I did not backup(I know that was bad), can I get my old settings and files back? What do I do?

Try sig's suggestion first, then, if that doesn't fix it, try some of the fixes here:

Some of them won't be relevant if you can't even boot, of course.

  • After installation of 10.6.5 system does not boot

After I updated my system with the latest release 10.6.5, the system does not boot up at all. It shuts down every time it restarts. All I can do is go into single user mode and then I cannot repair the disk as I always get the error that "The volume Macintosh HD cannot be repaired when it is in use"
    Any other suggestions?

It sounds like your friend's DVD is hardware specific to his Mac and will not work in your Mac.
Since you say a safe boot work that generally indicates that the problem is with third party software because the safe boot prevent any of that from starting.

  • Mac does not boot past white loading screen and disk cannot be repaired?

So when I turn on my Macbook Pro and it does not boot past a white screen with the Apple logo, loading wheel and progress bar. When the progress bar completes, the Macbook shuts down and when I open it again the cycle is repeated. I have opened it in Safe mode and it still showed the same thing. So I opened it in Recovery Mode and had Disk Utility verify and repair Macintosh HD. As it turns out, Disk Utility said Macintosh HD is beyond repair and I need to back up my files and reformat the whole Mac. Unfortunately, I have never used Time Machine since I started using the Mac and I obviously cannot use it now since startup does not even get past the white screen.
How do I reformat the Mac when it does not even go beyond the white screen during startup? My Mac did not come with any recovery or installation disks. Are my unbacked up files gone for good?
    Thanks.

Since you are able to get into Recovery Mode (Command+R), you can erase/format your Mac via Disk Utility.
Your files/data might be OK. One way to get your data off since you have no back up would be to have another Mac and connect the two via a Thunderbolt cable or even an ethernet cable (I think), then restart your 'bad' Mac into Target Mode by restarting and pressing the T key. Then go onto the 'good' Mac and see if you can copy the data files you want over to it.

Have you tried a safe mode boot yet?
Reboot to the OSX partition and hold the shift key down as soon as you hear the chime. You can release the shift when you see the spinning gear wheel.
yes,i did try that too.unfortunately ,hard drive seemed to be the source of the problem.just replaced the hard drive with a brand new one and put this one inside a usb enclosure that i have ,so tomorrow i will get a backup first and then format it again and keep it for the future.

  • Intel SSD Firmware Update Tool ISO does not boot

    Hello everyone
Yesterday I tried to install Mavericks on my MacBook Pro 13" 8,1 but I got stuck because I have an Intel SSD inside and it seems that MacOSX 10.8 doesn't have the right driver on board. So I downloaded the Intel SSD Firmware Update Tool 2.0.6 ISO, burned it on a CD with DiscUtility and tried to boot from it.
The problem is that it doesn't boot from the CD. It just ends with the blinking/flashing question mark folder.
Luckily I have a second MacBook Pro 13" 8,1 from work. Just out of couriosity I inserted the disk inside this MacBook and tried to boot from it.
Everything went fine. I saw the Intel Firmware Updater etc.
So now my question: What is going on with my first mac? Why does it NOT boot the CD?
What I need to say at this point: I burned the CD with the MacBook from work. Could this be the reason?
    hope someone can help me
    Best Regards
    krebbl

yes that's right. Unfortunatly I don't have a Windows PC.
But like I said, my second MacBook Pro boots from this CD and shows me the firmware updater. My first MacBook with the Intel SSD does not.
And like in the post here http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-57575091-263/intel-x25-ssd-incompatible-wit h-os-x-10.8.3/ it should be no problem.
Are there other ways to boot an ISO file?

  • Music CD does not appear in iTunes & now Mac does not boot

I inserted a Music CD into my iMac and the CD didn't show up (Enya "Paint the Sky with Stars"). Finally I quit iTunes, and launched Disk Utility which just spun, force quit Disk Utility, couldn't eject the Music CD. Rebooted and found that I couldn't boot from OS X or my Bootcamp partition, their boot sectors were damaged.
Question is where do I find out which music CD's have nasty stuff on them. I've read about this before but I couldn't find any reference to this music CD and boot problems.
For those who need to fix their computer after an event like this:
I just dealt with a similar issue.
    1) Power down machine by holding the power button for 10 seconds.
    2) Power up and hold down option key until the gray screen appears with icons showing the bootable drives and partitions
    3) Hold down the eject key until the CD ejects, if it does not then you have physical problems.
    4) Assuming the CD ejected, insert your latest Apple OS X Installer DVD, wait for it to appear in the list and select it (mouse or arrows keys), press enter, and wait
    5) When the installer DVD boots, choose the utility menu and select Disk Utility
    6) In Disk Utility select the boot partition and push the button Repair Disk (lower right).
You will Disk Utility fix the boot partition or sector.

I just browsed the web and didn't see any reference to this being anything other than just a plain music CD. It's possible your computer had hidden issues which running the software for the CD brought to the surface and Disk Utility repaired.
Also make note of what software you are running at the time of inserting the CD. I have discovered that iTunes does not like it when you run other software at the same time that is also trying to get access to a CD, e.g., another CD ripper even if the other software isn't actively ripping when you use iTunes to play the CD.

  • After updating the system does not boot anymore!

I made an usual update with 'pacman -Syu' and since I saw a kernel update I rebooted...
After reboot the lilo menu appears, it autoselects arch after 2 seconds, it appears
    boot:
    loading arch........................... .................................
nothing more. No errors, no messages at all!
It is the same also using the fallback.
What happened? Can I do something or I have to reinstall arch from zero?
    edit: typo
edit2: it can be related to the fact the I have /boot partition and lilo in different disks?
Last edited by ezzetabi (2007-06-03 18:31:34)

I see, so now I have to start the machine with the arch CD. Mount the drives, chroot the directory where I mounted and starting lilo should solve.
    Thanks everyone.
    edit: it worked! Thanks everyone.

  • Software updates- Security&safari 3.1 update... does not boot

    hi everyone,
i'm trying to help my room mate out with a problem. he has a mac mini intel 1.66ghz. he does have 2gb ram installed by a apple certified tech a month ago and it is problem free.
here's the dirty stuff. so first off, he has a western digital My book home edition 320gb usb/fire external with his files on it. when he restarted his computer after coming back home for the weekend, the error came up that that went system error, and it could not find certain files related to the mybook. it almost seems like the data was corrupted or deleted, he did not move or touch any files with the hard drive. i know there have been issues with the quality and hard drives failing particularly my books.
so the computer worked we tried to unplug ang plug back in the HD. also restarted the computer.
he had to also reinstall office 04, that went fine and worked. we also noticed that the printer he had connected could not be found, in sys. pref. we could not add the printer to the preferred list and it was searching for drivers on the bottom with a grey spinning wheel.
we gave up on trying to work on those two problems. he was working on a worpad doc and a powerpoint. finished, saved, and then installed the security updates for safari (3.1) and also i believe the 3/18 security update. we did the needed restart and then the mac got stuck on the grey apple boot screen with the spinning grey wheel.
we ran the disk utility, verified, there was a problem it was an incorrect volume, or piece on the internal HD(can't remember what the exact error on the HD was) so repaired it and it said it was ok. ran a verification again and it said it was ok.
so we try the restart and the screen is still stuck on the grey/apple logo/ spinning wheel.
    ...help!
so could this be an issue with the software update? is it the problem with the disk repair? we ran it a few times to verify and it said ok each time. we did not verify permissions...dont know if thats possible in the DU on the tiger cd.

First item: You should always repair permissions and verify (and if necessary repair by booting from another drive and using Disk Utility) any volume before doing updates. Also repair permissions after doing an update. Finally, I always clone (100% bootable backup) my drive before running any updater just in case something doesn't work.
I'm not expert enough to tell you what those extensions do, but I'd guess that because you didn't run the updater on a properly repaired drive that something didn't get installed properly and that's what's giving you trouble. In that case re-running the installer on the now hopefully repaired drive might work to install those components correctly. Again, remember to repair permissions before and after.

  • Mac does not boot

Can anyone help me on such a bad situation
    I have a Macbook Pro 15"  (mid 2010)
    OS : Snow Leopard 10.6.6
Also Bootcamp partition set up (windows 7 x64)
Everything was ok until I installed and uninstalled SQL server on my win7 3-4 times due to an error.
After those tasks I restarted the windows (Bootcamp) to go to My Mac OSX but the MAC OSX did not start up,  a spinning gear on gray background remains as long as i wait,
Now I have to hard shut down and power on my mac for 8-9 times to get a chance of proper startup.
I tried  shift+startup ,  command+option+P+R+startup many times but they dont work.
Also when I boot the Macbook with Installation DVD and start Disk Utility, get error when repairing the disc and it says reformat the disc.
    Any idea?
I want to resolve my problem without backup losing data.
    Thank you guys

Then the OS X file system is corrupted.
Sorry but I'm not sure you can fix it without wiping the drive ansd starting over.
You could try reinstalling OS X making sure youk don't touch the Windows partition. If that can be done.
But in doing so you may stop the Windows partition from booting. I simply don't know. I've never had to do that.
