  • After 10.9.6 update, laptop keeps going to sleep

After doing the 10.9.6 updates last night, my computer keeps going to sleep, even right in the middle of typing, the screen goes black and the lights on the keyboard go off.  I have to hit a key on the keyboard or tap the touchpad to wake it back up, and re-enter my password.  I am also running os x server installed on this laptop and did that update, along with xcode 6
Here are my logs from the console:

  • Since last update XP keeps "going to sleep" when unsed for 10 min.

If I walk away for 10 minutes the computer screen says "going to sleep" The Tower shows green light next to on/off switch but orange light is off. Press start, orange light fires up and I must wait for the whole restart process again. Where do I set the time-out to stay on?

why does my Macbook keep going to sleep every 10-20 secs when first turning on then it seems ok after about 10 mins ? This has only happened since upgrding to Lion 3 days ago, it's driving me mad!

  • After 10.7.4 update macbook pro won't sleep

after 10.7.4 update, macbook pro won't sleep.

Test after each of the following steps that you haven’t already tried:
    Step 1
 ▹ System Preferences ▹ Energy Saver ▹ Power Adapter ▹ Wake for network access: uncheck. You may need to unlock the preference pane by clicking the lock icon in the lower left corner and entering your administrator password.
    Step 2
 ▹ System Preferences ▹ Energy Saver ▹ Schedule… ▹ Start up or wake: uncheck
    Step 3
     ▹ System Preferences ▹ Print & Scan ▹ Open Print Queue...
Check all printers for unfinished jobs. Deal with any you find.
    Step 4
Disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard, mouse or trackball, and monitor, if applicable.
    Step 5
Launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the page that opens.
Select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected. Enter “powerd” (without the quotes) in the "Filter" text field. Select the powerd process and click the Quit Process button in the toobar (stop-sign icon.) In the sheet that opens, click Force Quit. You’ll be prompted for your administrator password. The process will be relaunched immediately.
    Step 6
Boot in safe mode and log in. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Note: If FileVault is enabled under Mac OS X 10.7 or later, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal. Don’t launch any applications at first. If sleep still doesn’t work properly, back up all data and reinstall the Mac OS. After that, if you still have the issue, make a “Genius” appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested.
If sleep now works as expected, go on to the next step.
    Step 7
Still in safe mode, launch the usual set of applications that are running when you have the problem, including your login items, one at a time, testing after each one. Some applications may not work; skip them. You might be able to identify the cause of the problem this way.
    Step 8
If sleep is still working after you’ve launched all the usual applications, reboot as usual (not in safe mode) and test again. If sleep still works, you’re done, at least for the moment.
If you still have the sleep issue after booting out of safe mode, post again.

  • HT4392 My macbook air goes to sleep mode after 2 minutes, how can I make this longer? It's frustrating trying to work.

    Hello,
I am struggling to get my macbook air on a longer sleep mode, i have searched through the settings and trying putting the saver onto a longer time, however this does nothing. Now my macbook keeps going to skeep after two minutes and its really quite frustrating, can anyone help me?

Go to Apple menu / System Preferences / Energy Saver.
Change the settings for computer sleep and display sleep to what you want them to be.
Next - important step - reset the PRAM.
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

Good advice from Linc Davis that should sort out your query i think...
However you dont want to set your MBP to never go to sleep...
    Adjust reasonable sleep settings...
And the download an APP called caffiene...
When you click it you can have your MBP never go to sleep with a single click of your menu bar... and with another click it can go to sleep normally to maintain the laptop...
Simply click the cup... To toggle never sleep/sleep

  • Macbook Pro keeps going to sleep / not waking up

    Hello all,
I'm having trouble with my MacBook Pro going to sleep randomly. I will be working on the computer, and everything will go black. I can still here the computer running. When trying to wake it up from what seems like sleep, no buttons will work. The only thing I can do is do a hard shutdown, holding down power button, and then turning it back on.
This originally happened about 2 months ago, and only once. Since about 2 days ago, it has been happening about 2 times a day. It occurs when the temperature of the computer is cold as well as when it is warm. I am not running too many programs when it happens. I have reset the PRAM.
Any ideas / comments would be appreciated and helpful. Here are my system specs:

  • My Screen Keeps Going to Sleep after restore from Time Capsule

This is the weirdest thing. I've had a new had drive put in, so I restored the system from Time Capsule. Now for some weird reason the display keeps going to sleep. I can bring it back up with ctrl-shift-eject, but two seconds later it goes back off.
I've since migrated to Snow, hoping that this would fix the problem, but nada.

    PowerMac G5 2.7 Dual   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Hi The Hatter! Thanks so much for taking the time to answer my query. Unfortunately I've tried all your suggestions (apart from reinstalling 10.4.9) and nothing has worked.
Reset the PMU; zap pram/nvram from cold start; or,
    from Open Firmware.
I zapped the PRAM but to no avail.
    Never let drives sleep?
Yes this was set on 'Never let drives sleep' anyway.
Did you add any drives? Seagate?
I have a factory-added drive; the computer arrived from Apple with 2 400 Gb Hitachi HDS724040KLSA80 hard drives
    any PCI cards?
    None
Does it happen in SAFE MODE?
    Yes it does.
Have you got any background tasks 3rd party to
    monitor the system?
There's NetBarrier Monitor and VirusBarrier Monitor
What do you see when you boot in Verbose mode also?
What am I looking for here? The screen fills with all sorts of things but I have no idea what they mean!
Did you "use" your Mac when you updated to 10.4.9?
did you use the combo updater? might even want to
rerun that - after doing the old routine of "backup,
repair, run Disk Warrior" first. And run the update
in Safe Mode just to reduce background programs.
The problem was occurring in 10.4.8 as well - and may have even been happening before that, but has become worse in 10.4.9

  • Monitor keeps going to sleep

    Hello there
I have a HP Pavilion Elite HPE-063uk Desktop PC, product number: VG251AA, serial number {Content Removed}, with Windows 7, my monitor keeps going to sleep and a message saying VGA NO SIGNAL comes up. The only way to awake it is by switching the pc off at the power button (the F2 or "half moon" button should awake it but does not) .
I have checked everything from the "Save Power settings (which is on off)" to Screen Saver (off as well) and done anything what I can find on the HP help and support, troubleshooting problems, testing this and that, even connected a different monitor and restored it to an earlier date, but I cannot solve the problem.
Please can you help. Thank you.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Hi vitolaterza,
Are you getting the no VGA signal after the computer goes to sleep? If so this is normal.
Turn off all sleep mode options; make sure everything is set to never sleep.
Check the cables on the back, you only need one video cable going to the monitor.  Also go to hp.com and download the latest BIOS and Graphics driver.
Here is a link to download the drivers.
Let me know if this helps.

  • MacBook Pro goes to sleep when copying files from attached drives

I have noticed that since installing Yosemite my MacBook Pro goes to sleep when it is in the middle of copying a large number of files.  When I wake it up the copying continues.
I have also noticed that when I am watching videos from my shared iTunes library on an Apple TV the video will stop after about 15 minutes and the connection to the library is lost because the MacBook Pro has gone to sleep. When woken up then access to the library is restored but I need to reselect the movie and then resume.
I have changed the power saving options to do not let drives sleep when idle and do not sleep laptop.
Anyone else have any experience of this or better still a fix.
    Thanks in advance.

I have just found that if I turn off the display sleep in the power settings then the problem is resolved.  It means though that the screen on my MacBook Pro is on all the time albeit with a screen saver.

  • Macbook spontaneously goes into sleep mode and screen off mode

Hi. My Macbook spontaneously goes into sleep mode and screen off mode with varying time between each instance. It usually goes for a few minutes or even hours without doing it and then will go through periods of fluctuation between the modes. I believe this to have started with a minor orange juice accident rather than it being anything software related.
Any ideas as to how I might rectify the problem? Thanks very much in advance,
    Danny

When you say it goes into sleep mode ...do you mean you actually see the white pulsing light?
It may be that there is an application running (perhaps in the background) that is keeping your book awake. Printer software sometimes does this for example ...try logging out and seeing if it sleeps like that. If it does, then it very well may be a background process running.
You may find some items in System Preferences/Accounts/Login Items that may be the culprit.
