After 2.0 upgrade: "This accessory not made..." error

I upgraded my iPhone to 2.0 today, and ever since the error:
"This accessory is not made to work with the iPhone" constantly (well, at random, frequent intervals) appears, together with the annoying offer to turn on airplane mode. Nothing is plugged in at the time.
I have tried using an air duster to check that there is no lint in the docking port.
This started happening exactly at the time that I upgraded the firmware.
Has anyone else had similar problems?

I experienced this before and I did a restore on my iPhone but didn't resolve the issue, I had to send my phone in for service.

  • This accessory not made for iphone

"this accessory not made for iphone would you like to turn on airplane mode" message keeps coming up. I select no, I have to unplug and plug back in the apple earbuds, yes the ones that came with the iphone and it will work for a song or 2. Suspecting the earbuds perhaps have a short in them ( yes the right speaker is pretty distorted at volume) I tried to play my songs with no head set plugged in, and I still get the "this accessory not made for iphone would you like to turn on airplane mode" message. This phone is pretty much useless as an ipod, and frankly thats the only reason I bought it. My phone is approximately 3 months old. Is there a fix, is my phone a lemon or am I gonna have to send it out and be out of luck for awhile? Like most people Im very dependent on my phone and music. Thank you

    done211,
The message you are describing occurs when either a device is connected to the dock connector port that is not designed to work with the iPhone, there is debris such as lint in the dock connector, or the dock connector itself is physically damaged.
Connecting something to the headphone port will not cause this message to be displayed.
    Hope this helps,
    Nathan C.

  • Anyone else having issues with third party changers saying "this accessory not supported". I get it every time I plug my phone. It only started after the iOS 7 updates

Anyone else having issues with third party changers saying "this accessory not supported". I get it every time I plug my phone. It only started after the iOS 7 update?

That's because part of iOS7 had code in it to look for and recognize unsigned cables.
In other words, Apple knew that people used non-signed ones and didn't care....until last month when they decided to care. People with iOS6 and lower should experience no issues (unless Apple patches those iOS versions) but folks with iOS7 will need to deal with it.

  • This accessory not suitable with iphone

Everytime I unlock my iphone or simply check the time I am always getting this message about this accessory not suitable with iphone if you wish to continue click yes but you will not be able to make or receive calls.
Also it does not play music out of the speaker through the ipod function and also does not make a noise when i receive messages despite being on loud.
i have read through other forum posts and tried just about everything it says to do but am still at a loss.
someone please help or im going to get rid of it.

Very aggrivating indeed. All those issues here as well. My Iphone is only a month old. I can't even hear when I am on YouTube there use to be a volume slider and it's completley gone. I am able to hear my phone ring but not txts. The unlock button doesn't sound and I'm sick of the prompt. " this accessory is not made for iPhone" " would you like to turn on airplane mode.
I've hit yes. I've hit no. I have dusted dock. I have removed sim tray. I have called apple who suggested reset. I reset. He also suggested that I plug my ear buds in several times Nd play around with it. NOTHING works. I am at lost what to do. I sure hope there's a good answer right around the corner. Please. If anyone finds out something let me know. Purty please with like whateever u want on top.

    1. It's not aligning properly with the dock. Take phone out and really look carefully at the dock and the port on the iPhone and attach them both very carefully making sure the phone is fully and completely seated in the dock.
    2. Even when seated properly, the message may display once. Hit OK and move on.
Here's what I've learned having encountered this (though not the repetitive display of that message):
The old docks for our other iPods really are not quite fully compatible with the iPhone. (Shame on you Apple). Somewhere on this board is a note that the new docks will be coming out soon as these 3rd parties re-vamp. I know I know... where does that leave all of us who have all this stuff that we had working just fine with our iPods pre-iPhone. I dunno but they better come up with some fix other than buy a whole new clock radio, et al.
Business opportunity - make little dock adapters for really cheap that you just drop into all of your older iPod docks that go between the iPhone and the dock on the clock radios, et al that will bridge that gap, so to speak. Maybe somebody is already doing this???

  • After iOS 8 update: "This accessory is not supported by this iPad" using Digital AV Adapter on iPad 2

After the update to iOS 8 on an iPad 2 I receive the error: "This accessory is not supported by this iPad" using a digital AV adapter. It works for about 20 seconds before I get the error. Same adapter worked with iOS 7.1, same adapter still works on my iPhone 4s with iOS 7.1.
Curious if anyone else has this issue. The adapter is not a genuine Apple adapter, so I think I'll just buy an official Apple adapter, but I'd love to hear if anyone else has upgraded to iOS 8 and can still use their digital AV adapter on iOS 8 with iPad 2, and what brand of adapter you have. Thanks!

Still not working. My adapter shows as an apple A1422. I can successfully plug it in to an iPad 2 with an older IOS but mine which is on 8.1.2, gives the error "This accessory is not supported by this iPad." I tried turning off the iPad and connecting it to the tv before turning it on. When it is turned on, it displays on the tv for a moment, then the message pops up and no picture is on the tv any longer. Clicking ok does not change the lack of a picture On the tv, but I can use the iPad as normal.
I've tried the adapter on a different iPad 2 that is not on IOS 8 and no message appears.
    Help, please!

  • Accessory not made for iPhone! It in the iPhone dock!?

My iPhone has a problem when it is put on its dock and ONLY when its put in the dock it occassionaly comes up with the "this accessory is not made for iPhone..." message.
This has happened 3 times over a period of 7 days- it does not occur everytime the phone is in the dock and it has never occurred any other time.
I have managed to get it to happen twice tonight but half pushing the phone into the dock BUT I can't get it to happen everytime - it came up about 2 times in 100 attempts over 4 hours to see if I could replicate it.
I have not restored it as it is so random I am not sure that restoring it will even fix it - although I will if it gets worse.
I have another iPhone dock I am trying and it has not come up in that dock but again it may not appear for hours or days as its so random!
There are no other problems with the phone. I don't know what to do!
    Any suggestions? Thanks.

I was in the shower when I received a call. I turned off the shower, blotted my ear, and tried to keep the phone dry. I got to my headset (corded one that comes with it), and plugged it in to be safe. All of a sudden I start getting the message you're talking about. I also had had the ringer turned off the day before. I have no idea what caused it, or if any of that was something above that started the issue. I wasn't getting the clicking sound when I turned off the keyboard, and that stupid message kept popping up.
I tried turning off the phone and resetting it, I unplugged and replugged the headphones, and blew the phone's dock connector, earpiece, and headphone jack. I turned ringer mode on and off with the switch. None of this seemed to work.
Then I plugged the phone in DIRECTLY to the computer, just with the cord and no dock. Be-deep. The sound I loved to hear. Sleeping the phone with the top right button now clicked again, and MOST importantly, I haven't gotten the message in the last 10 minutes!!!!!
I'd love to know if any of those situations I listed above was something you had done before this occurred. And I'd love to know if it works.

  • "Accessory" not made to function with iPhone

For the last two days whenever I switch on my iPhone I am greeted with this message: "This accessory is not made to work with iPhone. Would you like to turn on Airplane Mode to reduce audio interference? You will not be able to make or receive calls."
Whatever does this mean? I am not using any accessory with my iPhone, and never have.
It's all one big mystery. Can anyone help?
    Derek

I really thought you'd found an answer to this mystery. But not so.
I've done what you suggest, and the error message reappears. I've reset the iPhone's hardware. Still the same. I've reset the iPhone's settings. No change.
I'm rather apprehensive about going the whole hog and erasing the entire phone, which would mean erasing all the content and settings – zapping everything. But as David Pogue says in the Missing Manual for the iPhone, this is getting into the area of last resorts.
Unless someone comes up with an answer I shall be forced reluctantly to take the nuclear option and resetting everything to factory-fresh condition.

  • I've Lost cellular data network and emails after 5.0 upgrade.  "Could not activate cellular data network".  Have turned off and on, removed sim and also checked APN setting can anyone help...

I've lost cellular date network, all unopened important business emails and internet access on my Ipad 2 after 5.0 upgrade.  Received "Could not activate cellular date network"  - I have turned on and off, removed the sim and checked the APN is correct.  Can anyone help - struggling and need for my business.

I should point out that it worked when the iPhone was set back to factory settings, but when restored with the backup, data/internet no longer works again, and I get the "Could not activate cellular data network" error message yet again.
