After 8 years...

Like he title says... I've been a Verizon customer for 8 years. I've never once had any payment problems that caused our account to be suspend. I think we've made partial payments after the due date 2 times in the whole 8 years. I have always had good reception... a dream scenario for provider & customer alike. Well, my kids are growing up & moving on & doing their own accounts now. May daughter has stayed w/ VZW, but my son has decided to switch to T-Mo cuz he gets a $15/mo cheaper bill w/ the same Unltd Talk/Txt & gets 500MB/mo instead of the 300MB w/ Verizon. He even tried it for a couple weeks to make sure the service would work for him, and it does, so good for him, right?... only thing is, he wants to keep his number. Here's where things get messy...
our bill cycle ends on the 4th, and his #'s contract ends on the 10th. If he cancels before the end of contract, the ETF gets billed next month. If he cancels on the 10th, we get billed for another month of service. His contract is based off a basic phone we got him on 6/10/11, but he bought a Smartphone about 6 months ago & has been paying Smartphone rates, so the "subsidized cost of device" has been paid off in full and then some. So I called Customer Service & explain the situation, asking, "Hey, my son's making a simple change, I've been with you for a long time & I'm staying with you myself... can you guys let him port out here in the next couple days & waive the ETF when it comes out?
...I bet you can guess what the answer was! But just in case you can't... THREE reps told me "Nope."
So I said "Fine.. what we'll do instead is cancel the line on the 10th & you guys waive the monthly charges."
Here's the unbelievable response: "Actually Richard, we don't prorate the final month of service."
My jaw dropped. "So you're telling me that after such a good run w/ your company, you're not only gonna stick me for the last 6 days of a contract, but that you're going to charge me for an additional 24 days that we're not even going to be using?"
That's where I'd had enough & had to hang up before I popped a freakin' blood vessel LOL. So now I'm here... maybe some Verizon rep will read this, contact me & make some attempt at getting done what I'm asking

Here is a point to ponder. Verizon bills in advance. So if you leave on your bill closing date there is no monthly service to pay.
However if the contract end date is after the bill closing date then you eat the month. Kind of a catch 22
Contract end date being later if you leave you pay more in etf than month of service. Something to think about.
Good Luck

  • ¿Can I still use CC applications after 1 year commitment?

Well, I am almost ready to start an annual subscription for the creative cloud, but I have a question about what will happen after the 1 year commitment:
After I have paid 1 year of subscription, that means: 12 x US$49.99 = US$600, and I cancel the subscription some days after commitment has finished, can I still using the applications ?, or they will stop to work inmediately
Another way to ask the same: ¿After I've paid US$600 can't I use any application because I cancel the subscription?, that means ¿I must Pay US$600 each year to be a developer or designer that use Adobe products?, well this sounds like the more expensive products on the Market ¿isn't ?
What will happen with individuals, small or even medium companies that have used Adobe products for years paying just for the upgrades only when is needed, each 2 or 3 years ?, well I think those companies or individuals will be forced to change its production or designing software for something more profitable.
Now think in large companies with more of 50 employees, they must pay US$30.000.oo each year, indefinitely ?, wow I think this will be so expensive that companies will be stop using Adobe products.
I hope the answer for this quation will: After 1 year commitment you are the owner of what you paid.

If you don't continue the subscription then you lose the ability to use the software.

Have you recently used any midi controller with Logic.. such as a hardware controller or even an iPad app.
If you used an iOS app, power down (Not just put to sleep) your iOS device and see what happens.. If that fixes it you are running an iOS controler in the background and so you will need to close it..

  • After 13 years, can no longer recommend HP - Chronic MB problems on dv6t-7000 unheeded by HP support

I couldn't find anywhere else to voice this - my dv6t-7000 is just out of warranty and thus I don't qualify for email support. I have spent the past year in a back and forth battle with HP customer support and am finally calling it quits after 13 years of exclusively buying from them and recommending them to less tech-savvy friends and family.
I ordered this laptop around July 2012, eager to check out the benefits of Seagate's new 2nd-gen hybrid drives. Laptop arrived and was blazing fast, but starting getting some STOP errors (blue screens) pretty soon. Because this was coupled with hard drive errors, I didn't bother to dig too much into the problem and instead contacted HP, who (very quickly) shipped me a service box. I send them my laptop and get it back a couple of weeks later, but can't figure out what they changed (I later found out they just reflashed the BIOS).
Sure enough, I start getting the same errors again. Contact HP a second time and they recommend a replacement hard drive. Swapped the drives out and started fresh, but within a couple of weeks, the same errors popped up on the new drive. At some point around here, I was told I was being moved up to a Tier 2 support level, which didn't seem to make a difference in how much (or little) support seemed to pay attention to my own observations of the problem. Their process came across as (1) determine if support is needed and warranted (2) ship out prepaid service box (3) let the service department start from scratch to diagnose the issue.
I ended up sending the laptop to HP a third time, after clarifying the issue with the support reps I spoke with and giving them detailed instructions of the problems I had been observing, which seemed to point to a faulty hard drive cable or a related issue with the motherboard itself. The rep was very friendly and promised to relay this information to support before they got their hands on my laptop. Sent it in and again - no difference except a freshly installed operating system.
Before this third service call, I had freshly installed Windows 8, and if anything, the problem had gotten worse. I had run memtest with no errors on either sticks, ran SeaTools DOS with unspecified corruption errors, cleaned out the insides with compressed air, reinstalled WIndows 8 twice from scratch, ran dskchk and SFC countless times with unrepairable errors, run DISM a couple of times unsuccessfully, swapped out the CMOS battery, and was still basically experiencing a stop error every 1-2 days. I reinstalled Win8 after receiving my laptop back for the third time, and continued to have these problems. At this point I gave up trying to send it in to HP, because school was getting in the way of my ability to be without a laptop for 2 weeks at a time.
Currently, I cannot install Windows 8.1 and still experience KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR and CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED stop errors every 2-3 hours. I had one while writing this post, so hopefully I haven't forgotten to include anything. I don't mean to lay all of the blame on HP, but I don't like not having my input listened to or considered. It seems counterintuitive to me - this process could have taken 2 weeks to resolve instead of multiple months to fail and lose a customer in the process.
I bought HP knowing fully well that I was paying for high-end parts and not necessarily build quality. That's never been a problem in 13 years of buying laptops and PCs from them, as well as recommending them to friends and family - we know how to take proper care of expensive technology. But I'm realizing now that when you do get a dud, HP support seems to do everything in its power not to have to replace your laptop even when it's warranted. I will use this laptop until it can no longer function (hopefully a couple of months at least) and then consider another company for the first time in a long time. On the desktop end - well, I've been meaning to build a PC for a while now.

I have forwarded your post to the right people for their review. You should hear back from someone shortly via Private Message on this forum.

  • Iphone 4 no audio after 1 year (warranty expired)

I bought 2 Iphone 4 in 2010 from Digi Centre, Queensbay Mall in Penang state, Malaysia. The warranty has past 1 year expired date. Today one of the Iphone 4 purchased finally get the problem of no ringing tone. When plug in the headphone, the audio is working fine. The Digi Centre said it will take 2-3 weeks to get it fix as they need to send to headquarter to probe the problems.
Meanwhile, they borrow me an old Nokia handphone. It is a sad experience when your experience of today technology come to a halt due to this, i heard some 4S unit also having the same problem with no ringing tone, after some time. Hope they can develop patches to solve this stupid hardware audio issue, it bring alot of inconveniences to me.
The other unit of Iphone 4 is working properly.
Very unfortunate, the local service centre has no immediate fix or solution, my impression of Apple product has drop as it is made in China, some batch are faulty they didn't pay enough attention to the quality mission they pledged.
Should I change to Iphone 4S or wait for Iphone 5 because I already sad with my Iphone4 case after 1 year this stupid hardware defect start to creep in my life as a result I'm punished for 2-3 weeks of inconveniences, probably will have to pay more to get it repair as warranty has lapsed after 1 year. Thanks to all the China good and quality control that we have to experience inconveniences after 1 year.
I'm likely to wait for Iphone 5 for longer battery and better patch hopefully to address the hardware audio suddenly die off after 1 year by itself.

It only take a day to get things checked and fix. The Chairman of the branch Mr. Ricky Ooi has helped me to replace the buzzer. Apparently some water vapor leaked into the buzzer, fortunately it doesn't sip into the main board.
For all Penang Iphone4 folks who accidentally or somehow like my case, please visit the shop to get on time replacement and fixes.
Very thankful for his team support, and now I don't have to live without Iphone4 for 2-3 weeks as was told earlier when i surrendered my iphone4. Now I will look for him and seek his advise to upgrade to Iphone 4S or wait for Iphone 5, this case really awakened me to be cautious next time.

  • I have an optical mouse that came with my Mac Pro plugged into the USB port on the keyboard. After a year of working normally, the trackball all of a sudden stopped scrolling down. It scrolls up just fine, but not down. Any thoughts?

I have an optical mouse that came with my Mac Pro, the only thing plugged into the USB port on the keyboard. After a year of working normally, the trackball all of a sudden stopped scrolling down. It scrolls up just fine, but not down. Any thoughts?

    Well
I tried all of the suggestions, sort of. I did not have alcohol wipes, but I did take alcohol and pour some ona white paper towel and then rolled the mouse touch ball aroound and that finally cleared up the problem.  Just inverting it on paper did not do the reick, it needed some help with the alcohol.  Of course the probelm is the debris that gets inside and it really needs to come out.
This is a huge problem for RIM devices users too.

That is about normal. You can maximize battery life by changing some settings. See:

  • AFter five years of problem free use, my mixer pots have suddenly developed a case of the jitters -- that is they jiggle up and down within just a tiny range, sometimes one pot, sometimes several, no perceivable pattern, and can't move them up or down.

After five years of problem free usage, my Logic Pro mixer pots have suddenly come down with palsy -- that is, jiggle up and down within a tiny range  -- sometimes one, sometimes several, etc., no pattern that I've been able to grok. And any pot that is jiggling can't be moved up or down. I tried circumventing my 828 converter and coming straight out of my desktop iMac OS X, but that didn't help. I also moved a Logic midi file over to my laptop, and when I played it on Logic the jitters were there too. Anyone ever develop this bug, and if so, do you have a fix? Could it be a corrupted program?

  • After several years I stop using Dreamweaver, Adobe focus on basic functionality!

First, sorry for my english its not my native language.
DW is my favourite editor but after several years I stop use this product because its crap... sorry about that but its true.
All my live I create websites, I never doing something else so I know what pro user really needs, but absence of basic functionality is main reason to leave DW and start to use PHPstorm.
Brackets and tag highlighting is still missing in DW, Adobe think about it....   in some cases its hard to use it.
    Bye DW and thanks!

You shouldn't need to export anything, though I don't know what they do these days for trial version restrictions.  You should be able to save it to a disk directly using Save As (at this stage since it's already saved most likely).
To save a copy of it as a CS3 file, again, you choose Save As, and in the bottom of the file saving interface you should be able to select CS3 from the lower drop list.  I don't know what Macs come with for zipping files.  On Pc's these days you simply send the file to a compressed folder via a filename--when you right click it a menu appears with that as an option.
At this stage I figure it likely has to do with whatever tweening you do for the buton mc's, but I'd be guessing even more to try to tell you what to try.  It will probably involve having to move your event listener assignment code and that could get a little tricky.  It'll be easier for me to try it out than to take you thru each possible approach.
So see if you can save a CS3 copy of it (change the name so you don't lose your current file) and let me know... if you can compress/zip it, better chances the email servers will process it.  If so, I'll send you my email address via a private message.

  • Dead after 2 years 4 months, should I be angry?

I posted my woes elsewhere but it's true, my hard drive is fried. I had a long chat in Japanese with an Apple Support staff and all he could do was appologize and tell me that if Apple does the repaire that it will cost apron 500 USD; he gave me the number for a couple of other companies that can repair the disk and said I should shop around.
Here's my beef: I had used a Sotec computer for 6 years without incident, leaving it on 24/7 and the cost was nominal. The iMac was 2800 USD and breaks after 2 years. Yeah, maybe I should have bought the Applecare but, honestly, if you're spending that much money on a computer don't you expect that it should be okay for 2 years? Should I be angry?
My first thought is that Apple doesn't make the hardware but then I checked a little here and read, "Because Apple makes the hardware, the operating system, and many applications, Apple products are truly integrated systems". So, whose fault is it? I leave my computer on pretty much 24/7 in an air-conditioned room; I do word processing, surfing and a good bit of FB'ing and that's it. Two years seems exteream.
Costwise I should be fine. I have two warranty options from the store I originally bought it. It just takes time; it's a trust issue, too.
So, tell me if I should be angry at Apple. I honestly won't know until I speak with the English customer service rep and hear their explanation.

My parents still use the tube television they bought in the late 60' in one of their guest rooms and it works just fine. It's that kind of longevity I'd like to expect from a product but this age things are too complex, they're obsolete in a much shorter time span, so I guess it makes sense that it could die in two years.
A lot of it has to do with consumer demand for inexpensive products, especially high tech ones. I have some old "enterprise class" 2 GB SCSI hard drives that probably will outlast any of the SATA ones in any of my current Macs. But they were insanely expensive by current standards, about $70 per GB of capacity, & maybe a tenth as fast as even the cheapest SATA drive on the market today.
Something similar applies to that old TV: in terms of resolution & picture accuracy, it probably cost several times what a contemporary one costs today.
Almost no consumer would accept that kind of price/performance ratio today; in fact, we demand that the price/performance ratio constantly improve or we just won't buy new stuff. For years Apple tried to remain totally aloof from the highly competitive commodity market this creates, & it almost killed the company: Macs lasted practically forever but became just too expensive for most people to afford.
Today, they offer very competitive price/performance ratios; & their unique combination of close hardware/software integration, user friendliness, excellent esthetics, & all the rest of it keep them from becoming just another commodity computer; but consumers still won't pay much of a premium for that, much less for the far less tangible & quite expensive benefits of very long average life expectancy.

  • 1) How to reduce MacBook boot up time?  2) Should I upgrade my 2008 MacBook to Lion?  3) How long will a 2008 MacBook last (after 4 years)?  Thanks!

I have three quick questions to ask:
    1.  My MacBook (bought in late 2008,  2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2GB RAM,  160 GB HD, running Leopard/10.5.8) boots up quite slow.  It can take a while to boot up and shut down.
Question:  What should I do to reduce the boot up time?
I haven't done a clean up for a while, and am a MacBook newbie (after 4 years, still) for the tools.  I think I need to remove some applications but don't know exactly how. Also I am looking for stuff like System Defragment / Compression (tools available for Windows OS) to tune the hard disk performance, if possible.
    2.  Sort of related to this slow boot-up time - should I bother to upgrade to Snow Leopard (pay $ 29.00) and then upgrade to Lion (another $ 29 ?) for some 250 new features that I am not exactly sure if I will need it (or my 2008 MacBook can handle it well)?
My friend has a 2011 MacPro which he let me use it for a while, so I think I am already using Lion,  but frankly I can't tell much difference from the user experience (am just a very average Mac user!).
Question:  Should I bother the money and the time (I heard the downloading and installation time for Lion is very long) if all I care is boot-up time?
    3.  One last question - How long can my MacBook last?   Is there a way to find out the battery life?  Any indication that my MacBook might be on the edge of its life cycle anytime soon?
I heard that typically the life for a laptop (PC or Mac) is 2 years. I am not a heavy user, and I guess that's why my MacBook is still alive after 4 years.  But should I expect that to be failing any time soon?
    Thank you!

I'll try to make it short but with your questios, might be impossible.
I own both late 2008 MB Uni with 2Ghz and a brand new late 2011 MBP 13 inch.
I have lion running on both Macbooks with no slow down or issues.
The late 2008 I upgraded to 8GB Crucial DDR3 Memory and 320GB Seagate Hard Drive. Total cost to me? $140 CDN ( i live in Canada ).
My MB Uni's battery has 1047 cycle count and I still get 3-1/2 - 4 hours of battery life depending on what applications I'm using.
As for typical life of a PC or MAC ( I own both ).  The PC's life is shorter than a MB.  I have a 4 year old Dell Vostro that I had to do a RAM upgrade so Windows 7 would run properly.
My late 08 MB had 4GB of RAM when I upgraded to Lion with no issues.  i just decided to go 8GB because it was cheap.
A 2GB MB will boot up and run faster than a 4GB PC with windows 7.
Nothing is obsolete if you can still do your stuff on your MB.
To make it boot up faster, see what's loading on startup and take them off if you don't need them.

  • BT Infinity 2 - Suddenly no speed after 1 year of ...

I have had a solid 50 meg with 15 up for an entire year. I know this because I stream and upload every day, so if my connection was slow, I would know.
After 1 year of perfect service and being a very happy customer I know am getting 1 meg. What seems so strange is this happened after a heavy night of downloading. I reinstalled like 50 games onto my new PC, downloaded like 500Gig and bam, suddenly I have no speed.
The reason I loved this internet was because I could freely stream and upload/download without caps, thats why I signed up, I asked if they throttle. They said they cant do that as we are on the top package,
It seems to big of a coincidence to slow down right after a lot of downloading. Frustraing.

500gb is huge compared to most and I wonder if you are considered a heavy user in this context
Heavy users: Heavy users can cause peak traffic volumes to exceed the engineered maximum load. In practice this refers to a very small proportion of users of a network whose use is excessive to the extent that it impacts on other users.

  • Upgrade options after 1 year of CS6 Cloud

    Hello,
I currently have CS5.5 Web Premium.
My understanding is that I can get
    (option 1) CS6 Web Premium for $375
    or
(option 2) Adobe Creative Cloud for a year for $359.88.
Let me state right off the bat that I don't need, nor want the rest of the CS apps, nor the cloud storage.
After a year, with option 1, I am in a stable situation. If CS6.5 comes out, I can choose whether or not to upgrade. And if the past is any indication, that upgrade would probably be about $375.
After a year, with option 2, the following year would cost $599.88.
So here's my question, if I cancel Adobe Creative Cloud after the first year, what would my upgrade price for CS6.5 be?
Or rather, here's the question: Is there an upgrade path from subscription to non-subscription?
    Thank you.

    Hi TigerKR,
Sorry for the delay. Currently I'm unaware of any upgrade discount when changing from long-term subscription back to perpetual. That is not to say that the option will not be available, rather that the info about this is currently not available. Although slightly more expensive, my recommendation if you are on the fence, might be to just try the month to month option of Creative Cloud, it would give you the opportunity to try it out to see if you like it with out the long term commitment.

  • IMac Display failing after 1 year of average use.

I have a mid 2011 27" iMac (the one with thunderbolt)  and the display is starting to fail after 1 year of average use (an hour of use every day on average).  The display is now much dimmer on the left half of the display (the GPU sits underneath that portion) and also flickers the whole display now and then to a lower brightness.
I am about 45 days out of warranty and basically will have to cough up $500 to have it fixed by Apple.  My questions are...  Has anyone else ever had this happen to them?  The genius bar employee thought that it was something he has seen happen to displays when exposed to heat over long periods of time.  So basically playing starcraft 2 and doing video encoding killed my display if you believe that to be the cause.
Are there any conditions in which apple would recognize this as a manufacturing defect and fix it free of charge?  Otherwise it looks like im writing a check for $500 next week.

Today a dark streak showed up on my display right in the middle. It is shaped like a zebra stripe but is dark grey and wont go away.
    I too have a mid 2011 27" 3.4GHz i7 iMac with a 2GB Graphics card . Im about 50 days out of warranty.
Seems like its perfect coincidence  for apple that 50 days after my warranty runs out, the most expensive thing to repair breaks.
After doing some research it seems like there is a lot of people with this model experiencing this problem.
Pretty sad that my 2005 iMac is holding up better than my brand new iMac.
Been saving up for it for like 4 years and I dont have the money to repair it.
I tried everything, I knew none of the stuff i tried would work but i still tried resetting the PRAM repairing disk permissions all that good stuff. I even have an air purifer/dehumidifier in my room so i dont know what caused it.
I didnt think i needed applcare because ive had my other imac since 2005  without a hiccup.
Ive rendered out 3d animations using the cpu at 100% for days and it still runs fine.
Havent even used my new imac for anything that would put stress on it.
What i do notice is that it runs hot all the time. ever since I got it. Sometimes just doing basic stuff such as browsing safari it can get so hot where i cant touch it. my GPU normally stays at around 70C and the hottest its been was 80C which is still safe. The alluminum is supposed to transfer heat better but all it does is retain heat more and get super hot. the old plastic one i have is 10x cooler.
What i did notice today tho when my screen problem happened, is that the GPU temperatue is at 50C and wont go above it. I monitor the temperature with istat  and never have seen it at 50C and below unless i am just doing a fresh boot.
What really concerns me tho is how the screen went out so close to when my warranty expired.

  • After 1 year earned leave should generate and pro-rata quota should generate next year on jan 1st.

    Hi Experts,
Here is the client requirement and please let me know how to solve this.
Earned Leave: after 1 year earned leave should generate and pro-rata quota should generate next year on jan 1st.
Example: if employee joins on 01/07/2012 after 1 year i.e 01/07/2013 quota should generate 22 days next year on 01/01/2014 pro-rata quota i.e 01/07/2013, 11 days pro-rata quota should generate. Total 22+11 =33 have to generate on 01/01/2014. and next year 01/01/2015 (22+11+22)=55.
    Note: on 1/7/2013 = 22 days
    on 1/1/2014 = 11 days +22 days; total=33
    on 1/1/2015 = 33 days +22 days; total=55
Conditions: if employee joins before 15th date of current month include the current month, if employee joins after 15th date exclude the current month.

You will need 2-3 PCRs to address this.
In one PCR you need to query the Date of Hire (from IT0041 - I guess you are maintaining this) using HRS=YDAYxx - where xx is the date type. You can then check it it is the first year anniversary or not by using HRS?01. If the condition satisfies populate a custom time type with 22 days.
In another PCR, you need to check for 01 Jan by using HRS=BCURMO and HRS=BCURDY. In this PCR check again the length of service (see above). If it is more than 1, then proceed to give the pro-rata amount.
If the pro-rata formula is simple you can use the second PCR or you would need a 3rd PCR to get the pro rata amount. Using HRS=Y**** operator you can query many date differences which will help.
