After a crash & restart of firefox it shows list of tabs to restore but no checkmarks to slect them
Running Firefox 3.6.13 on PPC G5.
When firefox "unexpectedly" crashes, and restarts, it '''''used''''' to show a window that said something like "Opps, we're sorry" and then a list of tabs that were open at the time of the crash would appear, & you could check or Un-check anything on the list to tell it (in my case) to open less tabs, since Firefox only seemed to crash when I had 8 or more tabs open. '''Firefox never crashes with 4 or fewer tabs open''', in my experience, so I assume that's the reason it crashes, when it does.
Since about 6 months ago (no I ca't rememeber anything new that happened six months ago), Firefox now''' shows''' that window '''but it's like it's "corrupted"'''.
The list is there, but no checkmarks, and if I click on any or all of the tabs to restore '''or not restore''', no checkmark appears or disappears next to the name of the tab. When I click to proceed, '''Firefox now always tries to reload every tab on the list.''', leading to another crash and another etc.
Back when I '''could uncheck tabs''' (I'd usually choose to reopen no more than 5),
'''that would always result in a stable restart.''' Since I can't uncheck tabs anmore, it leads to multiple crashes one after the other.
I've already tried the corrupted file ".bak" thing suggested in the help pages.
I think it's got to be '''some''' kind of corruption because in the "checklist" window, the name of any tab I click on disappears, and the colors and icons in that checklist window change i.e appear disappear.
I've copy pasted the help troubleshooting information window, but since it's not a text file it appears to have pasted weirdly.
In the "This happened how often" dropdown below, there is no selection for "Everytime Firefox crashes" but I'd check that if it were a choice. It doesn't happen during any specific "time period".
'''This problem only happens when Firefox crashes unexpectedly, and it happens every time.'''
Open new tabs on far right, restore pre Fx3.6 behavior, set '''browser.tabs.insertRelatedAfterCurrent''' to '''false''' in '''about:config'''

This problem is even occuring as I type this information. I tried to click a "show details" button and it didn't work. The tab "opened" but I couldn't get the page to switch to the tab after clicking on it.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
* https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
* Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
* Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
In Firefox 4 you can use one of these to start in <u>[[Safe mode]]</u>:
* Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
* Hold down the Shift key while double clicking the Firefox desktop shortcut (Windows)

Firefox crashed with no dialog box, none of my tabs were restored.
Firefox crashed with no dialog box. It just stopped responding and disappeared. When I re-opened it, none of my tabs were restored - just my homepage. I had about 10-15 active tabs that I was working on. I'm not too concerned about the crash, but I AM concerned about restoring my lost tabs. Some are old tabs (ie, months old but I still use them and go back to them), so I'd be digging through months of histry trying to find them or remember what they were.
See Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory > Open Containing folder
If you do not have a sessionstore file in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder] then your crashed session is lost.
Session restore works more reliable if you choose Tools > Options > General > Startup: "When Firefox Starts": "Show my windows and tabs from last time"

When I go to open firefox it shows up on my tool bar but not on my screen where is it?
It feels like it's opening up in another screen in a dual screen situation...but I'm only only my laptop with the one screen.
It's possible that the window is "off screen".
If you make the Firefox tile active on the task bar and press this key combination, does it maximize into view?
Alt+Spacebar > x
(To clarify, that's Alt+Spacebar to open the window control menu, then the letter x to maximize the window.)
''If that works,'' try this:
(1) Copy the following line of code to the clipboard:
newwin=window.open(window.location.href);newwin.moveTo(0,0);
(2) In the maximized window, press Ctrl+Shift+k to open the web console.
(3) Press Ctrl+v to paste the line of code next to the caret (>) then press Enter to run it. A new copy of that page should open in a window positioned at the top left of the screen.
(4) Switch back to the maximized window and close it first, before doing anything in the new window.
''If you can't maximize Firefox,'' you can rename or delete the settings file that stores the last window position.
(1) Open your currently active Firefox settings folder (AKA Firefox profile folder).
From the Start menu, paste this into the search box and press Enter:
%APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles
You may only have one folder, but if you have multiple folders, look for the most recent. Click into your profile folder.
(2) Switch back to Firefox and Exit completely.
(3) Wait a few moments for Firefox to finish updating files in your profile folder, then rename '''localstore.rdf''' to something else, like localstore-bad.rdf or localstore.old. Alternately, you can delete the file.
(4) You're done with your profile folder and you can restart Firefox now.
Any luck? -

Under Firefox 5,0 tabs do not open any more after closure and restart of Firefox
For some time (new version?) tabs opened before the closure(lock) of Firefox do not open any more when I restart Firefox
If you use [[Clear Recent History]] in Firefox 3.5/6 to clear the 'Browsing History' when Firefox is closed then restoring tabs from the last session (e.g. "Save & Quit" or "Show my windows and tabs from last time") doesn't work.

Firefox crashed. Closed all my windows - did the auto update thingy with accompanying message. Brought up the windows that had closed as usual - all said "problem loading page". Firefox will now not connect to internet. It's not a problem with my connection etc - internet explorer is working fine. Anyone else have this problem today?
So, it's been 13 hours now and no answers. From reading the Airport Discussion board "
Airport has a self assigned IP address, 169.254.175.198 and will not be able to connect to the internet"
is a very common problem and I find it hard to believe Apple has not responded with a fix. I may have to take it into a Genius Bar and see what they can do but I do not have high hopes.
You know, I was talking to someone last week and the name Apple came up. "Ah", he said, "the Evil Empire". Their success has made them much more brash than MS ever was. -
Website www.bludot.com is not showing the proper BG image/video on all browsers (Safari, Chrome and all IE versions) but not on Firefox. The code is right, but FF is still pulling old images. The correct image/HTML5 video should be a cake, as displayed on all other browsers.
Firefox 9 is being withheld for Mac users due to unresolved crashing problems.
A test case would be nice and the URL for the website in question, so someone here can experience that problem first hand.
Or, try posting at the Web Development / Standards Evangelism forum at MozillaZine. The helpers over there are more knowledgeable about web page development issues with Firefox. <br />

So I've uninstalled it, reinstalled it, rebooted my computer, troubleshooted, ended the process and all the combinations of those. I created a new profile, since my settings may have been corrupted and followed the steps, and nothing. I've restored to a previous date, everything. Nothing works. It shows the process is running, but nothing show's up. I tweaked with the compatibility to see what would happen and chose to run it in 640x480 and it apparently worked, but it comes up invisible? I've asked people for help, but all they've done is called me a noob and told me to switch off to google chrome. If someone can help, I'd greatly appreciate it.
Also, I'm currently running Windows 7 starter for an OS.

It's possible that you are having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not caused by one (or more than one) of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe mode] (don't forget to select ''Disable all add-ons'' when you start safe mode). If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes this article] for information about troubleshooting extensions and themes and [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+plugins this one] for plugins.
If you need support for one of your add-ons, you'll have to contact its author.
If the problem does not disappear when all add-ons are disabled, please tell me, so we can work from there. Please have no fear of following my instructions to the line, as all can be easily undone. -

just as the quesstion
Hi - yes I can! I hadn't noticed that little arrow before, thanks.
However I would really like to stop it hiding the first tab all the time.... Even when I navigate to the first tab using that "list all tabs" arrow, it still remains 'hidden' (i.e. I can't see a tab up the top, even when that tab is active. And when I navigate away from it to another tab, it is invisible again).
Any ideas?
Thanks
