After a firmware update to airport express should I unplug the unit then plug it back in? (bascially reboot it)

After a firmware update to airport express should I unplug the unit wait a bit and plug it back in?  (basically a reboot)

I updated the firmware on the 2nd of this month.  Everything was fine.  About a week later internet speed began to be slow.  I rebooted the modem and the speed was okay for awhile, then slow again. I'm wondering if it's the airport express.  It didn't tell me to reboot at the end of the installation.

You can find out as follows:
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
    Click the AirPort Express
    Click Manual Setup
Click directly on the word Version (3rd line)
If there are any updates, you will be notified.
If there are not any updates, you have already have the latest firmware.

  • Why after firmware update to Airport Express 2nd generation on 12 Aug can I not wirelessly access access hard disks connected to airport

During the firmware install there was a problem so that the status light on airport express was amber. It would change to gree for a short while after re-plugging the USB connection between the Airport and hard desk drives (via a hub).
I can see the hard disks listed on the macbook (OSX 10.7.5) finder but not the files on the desks. The hard desk listing have also come up on the imac (OSX 10.6.8) but not often and again there are no files listings available.
A Brothers LaserJet printer sometimes also connected to the hub and then airport also sometimes requires a re-plugging of the USB connection between the hub and airport.

Apple uses Akamai for their software distribution.
    See
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3923
The latter (http://swcdn.apple.com) currently redirects to the Akamai content distribution network that hosts the updates. Note that the redirected IP address of http://swcdn.apple.com may vary over time or by geographic region.
    and https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/akamais-state-of-the-internet/id800491468?mt=8
Many of the large computer companies use akamai for software.. so it may have picked up those addresses from clients behind the Express.. although normally their IP should show directly.

  • How do I download ID DL1481 (firmware update for airport express)

I am unable to use Airport express 802.11g with Lion 10.7.4. I have Airport Utility 5.6. When I try to update firmware, the dialogue tells me that current firmware version is 6.3 and that's the only option I have for updating. From Apple Support page I learned there is Firmware Update 7.6.1. available (download ID 1481). However WHERE IS THE FILE??????!!!!!
    I really appreciate your help,

  • Update the firmware on my airport express from 7.4.2 to 7.5.2

When I press update the firmware on my airport express from 7.4.2 to 7.5.2 using the airport tool says:
This device and its network service is temporarily unavailable. will you continue?
When I press deliberately and pressed into the code goes started to download the update, but come quickly with this message:
Airport Utility could not find the AirPort wireless device after restarting. You may need to select your network manage network connections and try again.
But my airport lights up green as if it works and I may well be on the net and listen wireless music.
How do I get updated firmware?

Chances are, the update was downloaded and installed successfully.
Try powering down your entire network....every device.....order is not important
    Wait a few minutes
Start the modem first and let it run for 2-3 minutes by itself
Start the next device connected to the modem the same way
Continue starting devices one at a time about a minute apart until everything is powered back up
    What happens?

thank you thank you for taking an interest. this is so frustrating.
i only have apple keyboard, mighty mouse, and 20 inch cinema display connected. this morning took out memory and tried to boot up with individual pairs in the first bank. first the (2)256, the (2) 1g, and then the other (2) 1g modules. everytime I get the weird fuzzy wheel under the logo after a while, black screen flashes, then grey apple logo fuzzy screen then black forever.
I ran tiger updates this morn. still will only boot to safe mode. then tried to run leopard disk to install it
will not boot from leopard disk.
tried safe boot, then doulble click install leopard, restart, then the saga repeats with the pixely red square around the wheel.
these are fresh drives with only what came on instll disk loaded.
thanks again for taking an interest.
i love this system(well at least i did). I want to install leopard on my powerbook too but am terrified to do so right now since it is working and I have work to do. Can't afford to have no computer to do my work on...self employment is great?!
This is making me crazy. I anxiously await your words of wisdom.

  • Should airport express be configured with the same network as my existing router

Should airport express be configured with the same network name as my Verizon router.

A router signal can not be boosted as all routers put out the maximum allowed by law.  However, proper placement of a secondary router will enable it to "repeat" or extend the signal.
An Airport can "extend" the WiFi created by another Airport.  It can not extend a non-Apple WiFi.  You need TWO Airport units, one to function as the main radio and the other to function as an extender.  I used two Express units.
Configuration is simple if you start from a factory default condition.  Connect the main Airport to AC power and finally to the Internet modem (or modem/router).  Open Airport Utility on your Mac or other computer and accept all of the recommendations.  After confirming that it works, insert your desired administrative and WiFi passwords.
Then connect the extender to AC power.  As before, open Airport Utility on your Mac or other computer and accept all of the recommendations.  No need to add password info.
Do not expect the Airport to respond instantly to the configuration commands.  BE PATIENT!

  • Bluetooth volume not working after last firmware update

After the latest firmware update I'm not able to adjust the volume. Both when i use the volume rockers on the side, or try it via settings, the indicator shows changeing volume - but there are no difference. VERY ANOYING!
any solution planned for att this issue?
Edit; just notice that the bluetooth volume is working on headset but not on devices with only media playback. (Working with SBH20 but not with AV-receiver or bluetooth speaker)

I can confirm that my Z2 bluetooth volume control stops working when i use it with my logitech bluetooth speaker.
Bluetooth volume control does not work when I use Spotify, TuneIn Radio Pro, SoundCloud or Walkman. However the seemingly same bluetooth volume control works when I use Poweramp.
At first I tought that the problem was related to streaming music but since the Walkman bt sound volume does not work on local media files it is not the case.
The bluetooth volume control works with my Nexus 7 and Lumia 1020.
Does anyone have heard from Sony regarding this issue?

  • HT1218 can I use the 7.3 firmware on my airport express?

can I use the 7.3 firmware on my airport express?
current version 6.3, but de airport express units are not "supported" by airport utility v6. seems that they like me to upgrade firmware?

Is it true that AIRPORT UTILITY V6 doesnt support this model?
    Yes
However, you can use AirPort Utility 5.6 for Mac OS X Lion to configure the older Express.....and....your newer devices as well, so you might want to make that application your "go to" utility.
Keep both AirPort Utility 5.6 and 6.x on your Mac.

    Nokia staff - help needed!
Bluetooth has stopped working after E90 firmware update.
The following on-screen message is shown: "Unable to perform Bluetooth operation!"
P.S. Reinstalling firmware via Nokia software update doesn't help at all. If connectivity problem still can be solved with USB cable, the worst tning is that I can't use my phone's BT handsfree when driving.

No information as to what device you are using, but try deleting E:\CITIES + .qf file from memory card then restart OVI Maps application to re-define folder structure required to download regional mapping using OVI Suite.

  • After odd Firmware Update won't accept CDs

I updated with the Firmware Update and it was an odd update - it just seemed like it didn't work correctly. I don't know how to explain it, but it just didn't. After that update, my computer wouldn't turn on, I just had a gray screen. I searched and reset my PRAM. All seemed okay. The computer is turning on correctly and not having the automatic shutdown problems others have posted.
This AM I tried to insert a CD and it won't let me! I've not had problems before.
I tried to find a way to remove the Firmware update to install again to no avail. When I tried to reinstall it again I received the message that it was already installed (this was after I had removed it from the applications folder even).
Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

Sorry: the above is (partly) wrong ... - it'll get you past the firmware update but won't get you past the Boot Camp Assistant ... - it wants to see a single partition No matter what ...
[Just for that, I'm gonna see if I can mess with the 'can't do this on an external drive' requirement ... by moving an external to internal then back out again grin)
    best of luck...

  • Older Airport express won't see the signal from the cable modem.

Older Airport express won't see the signal from the cable modem.
My macbook sees the AP express and I can stream music to it but no internet. If I plug the ethernet cable directly into the macbook I can see the internet

Anytime you change networking hardware, it is always a good idea to perform a complete power recycle of your networking components.
I would recommend that you do the following as a minimum:
Power-down the modem, AirPort base station, and computer(s).
Disconnect the AirPort base station from the Internet broadband modem.
While all of the devices are powered-down, perform a "factory default" reset on the base station. This will get it back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration and make setting it up much easier, especially if you use the "Assist me" process within the AirPort Utility. (ref: Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule)
After the base station resets, go ahead and power it back down.
Reconnect the AirPort base station to the Internet broadband modem. For the Extreme and Time Capsule, be sure to connect the cable to the base station's WAN (circle-of-dots) port.
Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes to allow it adequate time to initialize.
Power-up the AirPort base station; wait at least 5-10 minutes. Note: The AirPort's status light may continue to flash amber after it has intialized. That is because, there may be some additional configuration items necessary, like setting up wireless security, before the overall setup is completed to get a green status.
    Power-up your computer(s).
In this basic configuration, the AirPort base station will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a Network Name (SSID) of Apple Network NNNNNN. Network clients, connected to the base station either by wire or wireless, should now be able to access the Internet through the ISP's modem. Once Internet connectivity has been verified, you can use the AirPort Utility to configure the base station for wireless security and any other desired options. Please post back your results.

  • When playing iTunes from 2006 MacBook via Airport Express remote stereo speakers, the music keeps dropping in and out

I've tried hours and a trip to the Apple Store to resolve this problem, and no luck so far.
We have two Airport Expresses -- one is an older "g" version (from 2006), one is a newer "n" version (a couple of years old).
We have one older MacBook (from June 2006) (so it can only use "g" wireless and also cannot be upgraded to OS X 10.7 "Lion").
We have one MacBook Air and an iMac (both less than a year old), an iPad (about 2 months old), and a recently acquired AppleTV (in the past few weeks).
We also have two iPhones that do use our local wireless network on occassion.
We have stereo speakers that are currently connected into one of the Airport Expresses.
For years (until the past few weeks) I played music from iTunes on my first generation MacBook to the speakers with no problems (using the older "g" Airport Express).  Recently, however, when playing music remotely over the speakers we have gotten fairly regular (though at random intervals) drops of the music in and out (drops are for a second or two each).  So far, here's what we've tried to do:
    (1)     Went to the Apple Store, where they thought the problem might be compatability between the g and n equipment in our house.  They suggested that we get an Airport Extreme and use that as the base so that 2.5 GHz and 5 GHz networks could each be set up, allowing the two systems to play nicely.  Spent a couple of hours setting everything up.  No dice.
    (2)     The skipping happens even when (a) I turn off the Apple TV; and/or (b) turn off the older Airport Express and just use the Extreme and the "n" Express (with the "n" Express as the connection to the stereo).
    (3)      When I have the wireless network drop-down menu selected on my MacBook, the skipping occurs immediately after the computer is "looking for networks" (as shown at the top of the menu).  The computer does this at random intervals on a regular basis.  The skipping, however, will occur even if the menu is not selected.
    (4)     Here's the weirdest part.  The skipping has even occured when playing iTunes from our newish iMac, with the older MacBook shut down, with the older Airport Express shut down.  In this case, the skipping only appears to occur when we have the wireless network drop-down menu selected and again, it occurs when the computer is "looking for networks" which occurs at random intervals.  In this situation, the skipping only seems to occur when the menu is selected.
At this point, if I can't find another solution, I'm going to return the Airport Extreme, and just give up playing music over our stereo speakers from the MacBook (and instead transfer music to the iMac and play from it).  But I thought I'd try a last-ditch effort to ask for help to see if anyone could figure out what might be causing the problem.  I would chalk it up to the problems of using my old "g" network MacBook on a newer "n" system (though I'm not about to spend $1K+ to upgrade my laptop just for this), but for (4) above, which seems to indicate something else is going on.
Any help would be most appreciated!

Unfortunately, your description of the problem and the placement of both your main and AirPort Express routers does lend itself to believe the problem is most likely Wi-Fi interference. If it isn't the microwave or portable phones, it could be obstacles like walls between the routers that may be preventing the stream from consistently reaching the Express.
In your configuration, the stream will first travel to the main router, and then, from the main router to the AirPort Express. If, for example, you started the stream in the same room as the Express, that stream would have to travel across several rooms at least twice.

  • Why can't my Airport express be found by the airport utility?

Why can't my airport express be seen by the airport utility?

    I have the same problem.
I have a Mac Pro OSx10.7.5, a Netgear router, A 1st gen Airport Express Model A1264 set up in Bridge Mode w/ LAN cable as Network 2 for Airplay, the iPad palys music and connects to the internet great through it. I want to extend Network 2 to another set of speakers in another room so I bought another AE A1264. "Like new"
So far I cannot get the computer to see the new AE at all. I have tried it wired to the router, wired to the Mac, wireless near the 1st AE, I've reset it and restarted multiple times. It just isn't showing up at all. ZIP. I get a slow blinking yellow light.
The Airport Utility "Configure Another"comes up with a Mac address I haven't seen before. I don't know if it's the new AE or not. In any case none of the passwords including "     " for a password work. It spins and I get an error message that "An error occured while reading the configuration"
Even when it was new the first AE took some doing to be seen by my Mac which was plenty annoying since it should just pop up but it did eventually connect via LAN. Once I configured it it worked on my network.
These things have been a real pain. Please advise.

  • IMac + Airport Express + eMac all at the same time?

I may be trying to do something that isn't possible (but it seems it should be!)
Upstairs I have a 24" white iMac running Leopard, with an ADSL connection.
One floor down I have an Airport Express connected to my stereo, which works, albeit at quite low volume.
Another floor down I have an eMac running Tiger, which connects to the internet via my iMac upstairs. This also works fine.
My question is this: I would like to have the iMac, the stereo and the eMac all running at the same time, but I don't know how to do it. It's a case of the airport express or the eMac, but not both. Maybe it isn't possible?
    I'd appreciate any help.
    Thanks

You need to configure the AirPort Express (AX) to join the network created by the iMac. Follow the directions in KB 302153, AirPort Express: How to join an existing wireless network in client mode.
