After a harddisk prob

After getting through a harddisk problem error (by using the Use At Your Own Risk method at http://www.nomadness.net/modules.php?name=FAQ&myfaq=yes&id_cat=8&categories =Nomad+Jukebox+Zen#209)
I'm wondering if there are any suggestions on what I should do from here. Backing up my library is what I am doing now, but should I do anything else to the player itself (such as run a disk cleanup. reload OS...)? Thnx

Thanks for the input. Since the hardri've problem issue, my Zen Xtra started skipping / acting up. While playing a song a burst of the same or different song comes in at random times. I got to work and did a disk cleanup (the process showed it get to 500%, which is weird because I assumed it would stop at 00%). Anyway, it rebooted, then gets to the creative startup screen and continously flashes that screen. My only option is to remove the battery. I can't get into rescue mode either (just the creative screen flashing on and off). I don't have my charger with me, but, is this an indication of the battery being low? When I started the disk cleanup, I noticed that it went from two bars down to one. Does disk cleanup use a lot of battery power?Message Edited by whatchusay on -29-2005 03:0 PM

  • 40GB Zen Xtra Harddisk Prob

I've had my Zen since January and its been brilliant, took a while to get here due to middle-man company but great nontheless. Well, till today however; I was out with the Zen yesterday when suddenly the battery died, first time its happened but it didn't bother me. Charged it today and then went to turn it on to access my music, much to my dismay it stalled on loading up the mp3 player, pausing on the EAX screen. After about 2 minutes it loaded up the Rescue Mode screen, I tried rebooting it. Same problem, I tried cleaning it - nothing happened. I tried reloading the OS - 'Harddisk Problem'. I eventually after trying to update the firmware which didn't change a thing did the unholy task of formatting the disk ... again 'Harddisk Problem'.
Now I've contacted the company I bought it from AND Creative over this problem and I'm fearing its going to have to be sent back at the very least. Which isn't exactly the best scenario seeing as I'm heading to London next week, but anyway, if anyone knows of any way this can be fixed or if the the reason is quite obvious, please leave a post =)
    Cheers.

I've actually just read up on a site about this problem and scarily enough it was suggested a bit of brute force or shaking of the player may be advisable. I tried my hand at holding it at arms left and twisting my wrist from side to side, the other more drastic technique was to place the Zen on a surface, hold it, and give it a sharp tap on the side. The latter proved more effecti've and the annoying catching noise ceased to continue.

  • Zen Vision M Harddisk Prob

    Hi,
I have a problem with my player.
If I turn it on it takes me to recovery mode.
I tried to Clean my players firmware but I get the message 'Harddisk Problem'.
I also get this when I try to Format my player the same 'Harddisk Problem' message.
I don't know how this could be because it never fell and my player is always in the leather pocket I got for it.
    Firmware version: .6.0_0.0.23
Someone can help me with this.
    I already contacted support.
    Grtz,
    Niels

I have or had a 60 gig Vision M and there?was a problem with my dri've, but because the warranty of a massi've year is no longer acti've you got yourself a useful battery powered paper weight that gives you options of useless importance. I would be quite happy to send mine away and pay for it to get fixed after all thats what after service is all about. an after service.. I emailed for?help?got a useless response. A product at this price should have a warranty of at least two years. My confidence in Creative, who should be competing against ipod, is so deminished that I feel I should stand outside there factory with a banner slating them!!
If your reading this Creative I bet your reply won't help my cause, however witty and demeaning it may be, You supplied me with a naff product. You should be proud I was sold!!
Unless you want to send me a new one, but I know you won't!!

  • Zen Extra harddisk prob

My Zen Extra will only go into rescue mode when turned on. If I then proceed to try a "Format All" or a "Reload OS" it says I have a harddisk problem. I have tried to "Clean Up" but it doesnt do anything, it just sits there in recovery mode. I have tried to reload my firmware, but with no result, as it takes longer than the life of the battery to load (it sits there with one bar filled, and doesnt change for hours) and It refuses to let me try it while plugged into the charger.
    What should I do?

alright i just tried the newest version of the firmware for the umpteenth time and SURPRISE! it works. i dont have to reinstall it everytime the silly thing fails a transfer, but it still fails transfers after a few files. any ideas?

  • Harddisk Prob

Having this problem with my Zen Xtra. It cut out during play (it was dropped a few minutes prior). I now get the Rescue mode automatically. Clean up doesnt start, I choose it, choose tick, and I get the menu. The other options say Harddisk problem. Rebooting gives me the rescue mode again.
I've read the FAQ and it seems like my only option is to send it off to support, though I'm reticent since it isnt under warrantee and when my old minidisc player broke it took a year for my local shop (Sony in that player's case) to finish it and then they wanted 50 for it back (so 66 altogether since I paid 6 as a base fee). Since I dont want to fork out what I could for a new one to have it fixed, I just wondered what the best thing to do is

The Harddisk is a very fragile device especially the small one in the players. If you dropped the unit or even shake the unit when it is on, you would most definitely damaged the harddisk and the only option is to send it in for them to replace the harddisk. That is the main problem with a harddisk and that is probably why they are switching towards the flash memory based players.

Ummm I tried this technique with my Zen Micro and surprisingly it worked. If you listen carefully you might hear some fuzzy noises coming from within the hard disk. Just bang your Zen against a hard surface. This does work. As soon as you turn it on, start banging and it will go through the screen and play your files normally.
You are incredible. I have a Sleek and I love it but , Yes it said hard dri've problem. I tried everything but then I found your message. I turned the unit off and then as I turned it back on by reset as it was going on I gently banged the bottom until it came back on. One time and it worked. THANK YOU. AMAZING. Marvin

  • I think I have a Harddisk prob

I got my zen sleek as a gift and have been trying to re-install the firmware about 20 times. Still I get "Firmware Problem", this last time my Sleek displayed "Harddisk Problem". I reset and now the hard dri've is making this strange sound like the heads are not touching the hard disk and they player gets stuck on the Creative or Zen Sleek screen. I don't know what to do but think I have a HD problem.

  • Zen Xtra Harddisk Prob

Whenever I boot up my MP3 player it goes straight to rescue mode. From here no matter what option I pick it comes up with 'Harddisk Problem' and goes back to the rescue mode menu. I have had it for 3 years now and I take very good care of it.
It is out of warranty so a replacement cannot be sent out or it fixed for free.
    Any suggestions?

well maybe you have a harddisk promblem, Sorry to sound repetiti've, I think you should go to customer service and see if its a problem that can be fixed, at worst they may ask you to buy another HD....

  • Adobe After Effects update prob

    Hi all.
When I try to update Adobe After effects cc, it says updates have been suppressed by administrators. I tried deleting the AdobeAdminPrefs.dat file, but the problem kept coming up. PLZ HELP!

    Manually following the path
    /Library/Application Support/Adobe/AAMUpdaterInventory/1.0/AdobeUpdaterAdminPrefs.dat
And deleting that .dat file did it for me.
I then started up a CC program and looked under the help menu on the Nav bar at the the top (mac). Clicked the update link and things started happening. Finally!

  • Zen Sleek Harddisk prob

Does anyone know how much it costs to have the hard disk replaced on the Zen Sleek? I bought the 20 gig player last Christmas and it froze up on me a couple of weeks ago. Cannot get it out of recovery mode. I am a little ticked off that a 250.00 player would just stop working and of course my warranty has expired. The only solutions that I can find are:? smack the thing around till it works again and send it in for repair. I am hesitant to beat up my mp3 player and I really don't want to mail the thing off to who knows where for repair. Any ideas? Thanks?un-happy camper:angry:

Yes I have. I have hit that reset button soooo many times. I tried thumping on it too, but, I am afraid I might do it too hard. At this point thought I am not sure what I have to lose.Shannon

  • Powerbook won't even start up after screen illumination probs

Blah! I have a PowerBook that I bought June 05 and of course the warranty is out. It's recently started doing this weird thing where when it's asleep and I wake it up (by opening and closing the cover) it does not illuminate the screen. Before I would turn it off and on (sometimes a couple times) and it would work again. My friend, who is a Mac pro and who has since moved out of state, reverted it to an older version of the OS then manually updated it (so it's running the most recent version of OSX). Tonight, it wouldn't illuminate again so I tried the old trick. Now it won't come up at all. When I press the power button, I know it does power up and if I look hard, I can see the apple in the first start up screen. But the screen does not illuminate. However, now it shuts itself down and goes no further. So while at first I thought it might be a hardware issue, now I'm not sure.
I have also tried to hook it up to an external monitor and all it does is show a light blue screen then shuts down. It also will not start is safe mode.

Using the external monitor, try this...press the power button to start the PowerBook and then close its lid immediately. Be sure you have a USB mouse plugged into the PowerBook and also have the AC adapter attached. See if that doesn't make the external screen useable. Once the PB is fully booted, you can open the lid if you wish (to use the keyboard).
If the above works and PB seems fine, then you likely have a failed inverter board. The inverter board makes high voltage AC from low voltage DC. The high AC voltage is required to drive the flourescent lamps (also called the backlight) that illuminate the PB's LCD display.

  • Conditional probes

    Hello everyone,
I have a question regarding conditional probes. What conditions allow you to have a conditional probe. I have seen in some of my subvis that the condtional probes are not always available. See attached picture. I can have conditional probe on the output of one add function, but not the other. Why is this?
    thanks

Under "Custom Probe" you can normally see the list of the last Customized Probes you used. LabVIEW has a list of already defined Conditional Probes which are already programmed.
You should go to "Custom Probe -> New... -> Create from existing Probe and choose the Probe (f.e. Conditional Double Probe.vi) you want to use. After choosing, the probe will appear directly by "Custom Probe".

  • Dvds don't play after new install

    hi,
after a harddisk crash i installed 10.4.3. on a new HD. before the crash my superdrive was set to region 2 DVDs. after the install dvd player opens but dvds don't start. i only see thin stripes.
i did try with a region 1 dvd but was told that i only can switch once more (out of the 5) which i cannot do right now, because i am in europe for a while.
    any help?
    thanks.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
This is definitely one of the pitfalls of travelling a lot. Region free DVD hacks exist for the drive, but whether or not they will affect your warranty if something goes wrong is hard to say, and I'd take up with AppleCare by phone before trying such a hack. Here are their worldwide phone numbers:
    http://www.apple.com/contact/phone_contacts.html
You may also try the hardware test if you have that:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86287
just to make sure the graphics chip wasn't loosened.
And try VideoLan Client which sometimes works when Apple's own DVD Player does not.

    I tried to restore/restart/update/....
    Nothing worked....
Please elaborate as much as possible if you have any idea how to get rid of this nasty pop up every time you browse between pages or different wikis.
    Million thanks in advance
    cheers

I've the problem as well. When visiting my wiki-server I always get this popup message:
The versions of the server and UI don’t match. Try clicking Reload; if that doesn't work, please make sure both server components are up-to-date.
    Client: WikiServerUI-198
    Server: WikiServerUI-200
After a harddisk replacement I restored the server installation from TimeMachine back to the harddisk. From thereon I have the problem.
What is the problem exactly and how can I get rid off that message?
    Thanx, Harold
