After backup is complete I can delete files?

My Time capsule is set up and I have completed my first backup.  Since my hardrive is full, can I now start deleting??

Very dangerous way to use Time Machine.
If you delete files from your computer, Time Machine will do the same and delete those files from your backups. You just don't know when.
I simply would not do this with any data that you consider to be valuable.

  • Time Machine backup disk: I want to delete files but can't

    Hello,
I restored my MacBook and have been wanting to delete some files on the external HD I had previously used to back this MB up using Time Machine. But when I try to delete the files it says something about read only. Is there any way to disable this so I can delete files?
    Thanks,
    David

are you trying to delete them using finder? you should never delete any TM backups from finder. it should be done from TM interface. start TM and navigate to the relevant backup, select the file you want to get rid of, click on the "gears" action button in finder's toolbar and select "delete all backups of this item".

  • Veeam back to tape after Backup Exec completes

Yes, it's possible to use 2 mentioned solutions together. Hope, you're using Veeam latest version as it has enhanced support for tape devices. If not, have a look: http://www.veeam.com/kb1816
Tapes don't have to be directly connected to Veeam Backup Server. Any Windows server with tapes can be added to Veeam environment as Tape Server, please refer to user guide for details.

Is it possible to run a Veeam job to backup to Tape after Backup Exec completes at night and append the Full Vm to the end of the tape ? Using BE 2014 currently.
Also does the Tape device need to be directly connected to the Veeam Server?
    Thanks in advance

  • HT201250 Since time machine backed up my computer does that mean I can delete files so I can increase storage space on my hard drive?

Since time machine backed up my computer does that mean I can delete files so I can increase storage space on my hard drive?

    NO!
Time Machine is not an Archival Backup. It will keep files for a while, but if it needs the space, it will delete files that no longer exist on the hard drive.
Get a couple external drives and move the files to both of them.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List

After charging iPad completely I can only use a few hours and then I have to charge it all over again?

Games can be very taxing for the iPad and thus drain the battery quickly.
How many hours does the battery last? What games are you playing?

  • After viewing & closing an image, can delete it, but not its containing folder.

I’m going through a bunch of old files to see what I can git rid of.
When I view and then close an image in Photoshop CS6 I can delete the image file, but not its containing folder, which stays locked, even after closing Photoshop.  Restarting and closing Photoshop again usually enables me to delete the folder — but not always.  Sometimes I have to close everything and log out and back in to be able to delete the folder.  (BTW, Acrobat and Illustrator also share this problem.)
When you have, as I do, hundreds of files to go through, this becomes a real hassle.

I suspect Photoshop, as a part of the file open operation, has set its current "default directory" to the folder in which you're working.  You could prove that by opening  a file in another folder and seeing if the prior folder is still unable to be deleted.
Are you using Bridge in any part of this process?  Seems to be a better match for what you're doing.
If you'd rather not use Bridge, have you considered using Windows Explorer and a viewer application instead of Photoshop to look through these images?  IrfanView or possibly even Windows Photo Viewer with a codec pack come to mind.

  • I have a Macbook Air and the start up disk is full so it won't boot up.  How can I get it to boot so I can delete files?

I have a Macbook Air and the start up disk is full so it will not boot up.  How can I boot it up so I can delete some files?

You will have to see about booting it from another drive or USB flash drive or another computer. When you are able to then see the following:
Freeing Up Space on The Hard Drive
      1. See Lion's Storage Display.
      2. You can remove data from your Home folder except for the /Home/Library/ folder.
      3. Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on freeing up space on your hard drive.
      4. Also see Freeing space on your Mac OS X startup disk.
      5. See Where did my Disk Space go?.
      6. See The Storage Display.
You must Empty the Trash in order to recover the space they occupied on the hard drive.
You should consider replacing the drive with a larger one. Check out OWC for drives, tutorials, and toolkits.
Try using OmniDiskSweeper 1.8 or GrandPerspective to search your drive for large files and where they are located.

  • 25GB of not-visible files on bootdisk after backup-how to find and delete?

After backing up my iMac G5 internal HD to an external Firewire HD, the internal HD has accumulated an extra 25 Gigabytes of hidden/invisible files.
** How can I locate and delete presumably unnecessary hidden files?
iMac HD had 100GB used. I used Carbon Copy Cloner to clone iMacHD to iMac backup, which had been zeroed with Disk Utility. After several failed partial clones using CCC, I erased iMac Backup -without zeroing- MacOS Extended (not journaled), and successfully made a bootable clone, excluding only .Spotlight-V100
Did the failed clone attempts create hidden temporary files? Each time I tried, I would get more folders cloned, including the files at which it had hung, without error messages (mostly).
Visible folders total 95 GB -exactly the same on Imac HD and iMac backup
    Using
    sudo ls alh /.Spotlight-V100
.Spotlight-V100 totals 185 MB on IMac HD
Just before the above history, iMac HD had been zeroed, Tiger reinstalled, updates taken, and other data restored using Migration assistant, from iMac Backup, which had been the boot disk because iMacHD had twice, in the last 6 months, developed bad disk sectors ( invalid leaf count in Disk Utility, surface scan errors in Techtool Deluxe. iMac HD has just passed both those tests, for now.)
If this happens again, Applecare promised me I get a new HD.
(Applecare Australia works the same hours I do M-F, so I get to talk to them only on Saturdays)

  • BUG: Import Java Sources, can delete file contents.

When I was recreating my project files because I had a problem with migrating from Preview 2. I went to import all my source into the new project... via File > Import > Java Sources... This is when I realized I setup the path wrong for the project I had c:\projects\application\projectname\projectname\src for the source where it was suppose to be c:\projects\application\projectname\src.
Anyway instead of recreating again I just changed the Copy to 'c:\projects\application\projectname\src' and I set the copy from to the same exact directory 'c:\projects\application\projectname\projectname\src', then clicked ok to import.
Well 10minutes later after adding the rest of the stuff I need and fixing the directory paths I realized all the source files were there but the contents were deleted!
Wasn't a big deal for me because I backup my files and I just right clicked on the source folder in vista and restored the previous versions (what a handy feature)... But I don't remember getting a warning and why would it delete the contents anyways? Shouldn't it do a check to see if its copying the file onto it self before copying and just skip the copy part and import.
Stupid me for messing up the path but for someone who doesn't backup their files this would really suck bad.
    Thanks,
    Art

  • HT4623 I just updated my iphone 5 to the latest update: 6.1.2  After update was complete, I can no longer connect with my local network, apps no longer are transfered to my phone.  I lost all of my apps and music and can't get them from my computer to my

Has anyone else had trouble with update 6.1.2 for I phone?  After the update, I can't get back on my network (password is correct), ICLOUD doesn't transfer my downloads, nothing seems to work.  It saved my calandar and address book, but lost all of my apps and music (except for a few songs, figure that out) and I can't get them back.  Any suggestions?

I had this problem post 6.1. Not sure if it was a coincidence, but I'd just recently changed my password after being convinced I'd been hacked, due to being told I was entering my password wrongly, repeatedly by iCloud / iTunes.  It turns out my iCloud account on my Settings -> Mail, Contacts and Calendars was listed as Inactive.  Putting in my details, turning off Contacts over iCloud (thus deleting them) and turning them back on again, repopulated my contacts from iCloud with numbers attached to them.

  • After recent Java update Safari can open files thruough an applet

Might be the wrong place here, but just looking for people who might have had the same issue. Since Update 45 of Java 7, I can't no longer open file fron disk into the applet. I checked all Java seetting and am running out of proper options. Anybody else had this isse and know a solution?
    thanks!

Arrgh..... Okay that makes sense. Thanks very much cor-el. You know, the crazy thing with Mac is that you cant opt for an earlier update of Java if the newer version cause problems on some level. I called in one time about that and they told me that you'd essentially have to reinstall the operating system and then manually update only up to the level of Java you wanted manually. Does that not seem a bit non-linear to anyone else?
I am a fan of Mac, don't get me wrong. I enjoy their intuitive user experience, but some stuff like this just really makes you question Mac.
Can you think of any other work around that would allow a Mac OSX 10.5 user to utilitze java at all?

  • If I select "Delete Photos" after upload is complete, will it delete the entire roll?

I have selected only half of the images on my iPhone to upload in iPhoto.
After Upload it is asking me to "Delete Photos" or "Keep Photos"... Will selecting "Delete Photos" delete ONLY THOSE IMAGES I UPLOADED? And leave the others on the iPhone?

But could the user of the phone just turn on iCloud themselves and get the private notes I wanted to keep from them? Is there a way to permanently delete them from the old phone without deleting from the new phone?

  • When downloading is complete, I can not see, run, nor access the file; it only appears in the "Downloads" window (and not the specified folder) and the only options permitted are to delete it, or to go to the download web site; what's blocking it?

My PC's OS is 'MS Windows Vista Home Premium'. As my initil question states: When downloading, after the download completes, I can not see, run, nor access the file in it's designated folder. The download only appears in the "Downloads" window and the only "Right Click" options permitted are to "Remove From List", "Select All", & "Copy Download Link" I also can not double click to run it. What's blocking it?
I have a similar problem when accessing .zip files that are attachments to my emails. Here, however, I can place the file in a designated folder, however, the .zip file and it's compressed content files are file-typed as "FireFox Document" and I get permissions errors when running an unzip tool.
Why are my download files being quarantined ??? Is there a security setting option I need to change???
To get around this, I'm using IE to download and install these files, but switching back & forth between FireFox & IE is a real pain.

It's your anti-virus not working correctly while scanning. You can turn off the option to scan in Firefox's '''about:config''' by filtering for '''browser.download.manager.scanWhenDone''' and double-clicking that line to change the value to '''false'''
