After bios update, will not boot, says install an operating system

I have a amd hp 2000 notebook. i replaced the hard drive with an ss drive, windows 7.  been working fine until the bios update, I bleieve, which lost the boot up parameters. how do I get it to boot. hard drive works well in another system so not that. getting the usual message, boot dvice not found, install an operating system, F2 diagnostics all pass. Hard disk (3F0) message
should one revert to earlier bios, usually not recommended. bios version 45 it says, so not sure the latest.

  • After software update, will not boot up past blue screen

I just did a software update and after restarting, the computer will not go past the blue screen with the spinning wheel at the bottom. Please help! I've tried everything under troubleshooting in the manual. Any other ideas?

Thanks, I was able to fix my problem. It was a software issue. Luckily I did a pretty good backup...I just forgot to back up 2 of my most used applications: iPhoto and Appleworks. They were on my laptop before I did the erase and install, and now they are gone. I thought they would be on the iBook install discs or the OSx software install disc...but no. They had to come from somewhere and I just cannot find them! I know I didn't pay for them. Any thoughts on where they may be? I am so mentally exhausted from these computer woes...I can't think anymore!!! Please help me!

  • I-phone 4 froze after an update, will not shut down and sends all calls to voicemail. Apple logo is the only screen that I get, is there anything I can do?

I-PHONE 4 FROZE AFTER AN UPDATE, WILL NOT SHUT DOWN AND SENDS ALL CALLS TO VOICEMAIL, IS THERE ANYTHING I CAN DO?

Unplug it and let unit go dead. Then hold your Home button down and plug the USB power cord back in. iTunes should see it and then restore.

  • Will Not Boot from Install Disc  & 4SNS/1/40000000: TG0D - Thermal Sensor?

*Will Not Boot from Install Disc*
I used the "option key" approach with the gray start up disk. At first it ejected the start up disk. Then I nudged the disk back in the machine and it showed on the screen as an option. I clicked on the start up disk image and it finally loaded.
But, it won't accept the start up disk when holding down the "C" key at restart.
    *4SNS/1/40000000: TG0D*
I did an Apple Hardware Test and received the following diagnostic:
    Version: 3A121
    Test Suite: Extended Test
    Loop Count: 2
    Result: Failed
    Failure code: 4SNS/1/40000000: TG0D
    *Thermal Sensor*
A search for the failure code 4SNS/1/40000000: TG0D brought up an Apple Discussion topic entry stating: That error code indicates a problem with a thermal sensor. It could be not working or possibly not connected. You will need to take it to Apple for repair.
Would a thermal sensor have anything to do with it not starting up when holding down the "C" key at restart? What are thermal sensor problem symptoms?
    *User File Folder Opened Up*
The machine also starts up with my user file folder opened up rather than with a blank screen as it normally should
I completed a DiskWarrior rebuild on the disk and verify disk shows it is fine.
Any suggestions on what to do next with these issues?

  • HP Pavilion dv-4087CL Notebook receiving : Boot Device Not Found-Please install an operating system

My Duaghter is out of the country studing abroad.  Her PC would no longer boot up so she took it to a support shop. They replaced her hard drive, fixed an over heating issue and reloaded her PC.  Now she is getting this new error message and she is desparate to get this fixed.  We have owned this PC for only 2 years. I am sure it is out of support.
HP Pavilion dv-4087CL Notebook receiving : Boot Device Not Found-Please install an operating system on your hard disk.
She took it back to the support shop and they upgraded her bios, but that did not fix the error message.
Please help!  What can she do  now.

    Hi:
Normally that means the hard drive failed.
I know it was replaced but maybe the replacement drive went out too.
There is a hard drive diagostics tool your daughter can run in the BIOS.
I suggest she run it (enter the BIOS by tapping the F10 key as soon as she sees the HP welcome screen).
Then once in the BIOS, there should be a diagnostics menu..one for memory and one for the hard drive.
She should select the hard drive diagnostics application and see what it reports.
Then go from there based on what is reported.

  • Macbook Pro will not load OS and will not boot from Install Disk

When I try to turn on my macbook pro it goes to the gray logo screen with the spinning gear however it does not progress from there and then after several minutes it proceeds to restart itself and the same process repeats itself. I have tried to boot into single user mode with success and have run /sbin/fsck -fy and that has returned that the volume appears to be ok. However, when I hit reboot it returns to the same process of the gray screen and spinning gear to black screen which repeats. When I boot into verbose mode it progresses to AppleYukon2: RxRingSize <= 1024, TxRingSize 256, RXMAXLE 1024, TXMAXLE 768, STMAXLE 3328 then it stalls for several minutes and then it shows continuing
    synchronizing disks... Killing processes
then it says some other stuff to fast to read.
When I try to boot from the install disk it will not boot from holding the c key it goes through the same aforementioned cycle. When using option to boot I can see the Disk then when I select it the cycle happens again.
Also I have XP installed and I am able to boot into that successfully. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Not sure if I left anything out

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Do you have multiple Accounts defined on that system? The last time you successfully were running, did you run from the Account with Administrator privileges?
Do you have another computer from which you could boot and connect the Macbook Pro in Target Disk Mode to take a look at the drive from your working machine? Perhaps you can run Disk Utility from the working machine and point to the hard disk on the failing Macbook Pro.

  • Wiped macbook pro will not boot from install DVD

I recently purchased an older MacBook Pro that came with the OS system wiped but it did have the original Install DVDs.  The computer will not boot from the DVD.  I have booted holding down the C key and nothing happens.  I have booted holding down the Option key and it shows the Install DVD and I select this and nothing happens.
How do I get it to open up the Utilities from the DVD to install the operating system?

It could be a problem with the optical drive, but also may be due to the DVD's being for a different model.
Exactly which MBP do you have, and what serial numbers are on the discs ?.

  • MacBook crashed during update - will not boot

My wife was using iTunes and was prompted to do seven updates on our MacBook. She was told to hold in the power button during the update, and the machine reset.
Now the machine will not boot and just accesses the CD/DVD drive over and over.
Does anyone here have any ideas?

Alright, I was able to fix it.
I had to download the Firmware Restoration image for Intel based MacBooks onto my Windows XP machine. I then used a demo of the program 'UltraISO' to burn the .dmg image.
The macbook was turned on, the disc inserted. Then the macbook was powered off, and powered back on. This time I held in the power button until the long tone and gray screen appeared.
The folks at the Apple Store had no other suggestion other than paying $183 for AppleCare. They need to spend less time telling customers how reliable Macs are and a little more time burning copies of this restoration disc!

    Hi @Darren104
Welcome to the HP Support Community. I saw your post regarding the Boot Device not Found error message. This HP document Resolve Boot Device not Found Error Message will show you how to reset your BIOS. This will force the BIOS the look at the hardware and it might see your new hard drive. Another reason that it might not be seeing the hard drive is because there is no bootable operating system on the hard drive. You might need to look at taking it out and installing an operating system on it via another computer.

  • Macbook Pro will not boot beyond grey screen.  System freezes.

My Macbook Pro will not boot-up or get beyond the grey screen (with spinning gear wheel.)  I've tried all the recommended actions: resetting PRAM, disk repair, permissions repair, re-boot in safe mode etc but still the problem persists.  When viewing the safe-boot in verbose mode, the system seems to hang at the stage when it's checking the Airport & Ethernet - the last line on the page reads: "AppleBCOM5701Ethernet:   0    0    setFixedSpeed - logic error, speed any?"
Any ideas how to fix this without doing an Archive & Install?
I'm assuming that if I do an "Archive & Install" then I will lose all my Applications (VLC, Handbrake, MS Office for Mac etc.)  Will this actually be the case?  Will I lose them.
Any help gratefully received.  Many thanks.

jfromplymouth wrote: ...I'm assuming that if I do an "Archive & Install" then I will lose all my Applications (VLC, Handbrake, MS Office for Mac etc.)  Will this actually be the case?  Will I lose them...
Archive and Install just affects the System files, so any apps you have  should still be available afterwards.  The Installer on the disk that  came  with your Mac, when you bought it, will tell you this before you  proceed.  Of course, you can always back out of the Installer if you feel chicken.
Notwithstanding it is still necessary to backup everything.  You need to check that Time Machine is set to also backup your Applications folder.  It might be set not to do this.
It may not be necessary to worry about this if you have the original installer disc(s).  I think any stuff downloaded from iTunes etc can be re-downloaded.  However, it's probably quicker to get Time Machine to backup your apps if you can afford the HDD space.  It's bound to be quicker than re-downloading the stuff plus any updates.  And of course there's those Apps that you have but forgotten about.  What about them?
