After Boot Camp erases your Mac OS partition, how do you re-install the OS?

Boot Camp not only erased my Mac pertition but created one big Windows partition. Now when I go to re-install the Mac OS it does not recognize any hard drive and will not install.
According to another post, it will not allow you erase erase the HD and reformat. Does anyone have any solutions for this???

Use the install disc. Once the MacOS installer loads up, go to the (I believe) utilities menu and launch disk utilities. You should be able to erase the disk and repartition it at that point. Make sure you to to the options tab and select GUID partition scheme.

  • Hard drive missing space after boot camp got stocked on "Creating Partition"

Hi guys, last night I was trying to install windows 7 in my computer for some gaming, the process with boot camp went well until it said "Creating Partition" there it got stocked for a good 2 hours, because of this I did a bit of research on what could happen if I would force quit it, I read that it might happen that if I restart the partition would be there or just nothing would have change but in my case none of those happened, my hard drive is keeping that space in blank without letting me use it, before trying boot camp I had 240 GB of free space and now after restart it I have 90 gb of free space, yes I tried to make the partition of 150 GB, so what should I do to repair this?, I verified the permissions on Disk Utility and I just got one weird message:
Warnin SUID file "Library/CoreS" has been modified and will not be repaired
But when I try to verify/repair I get this:
    or this:

Reboot to your recovery partition and run disk utility from there, you can not repair the disk you are booted from.

  • HT1899 Boot Camp was deleted... How to download and install again?

My Boot Camp was deleted from aplications. I downloaded it again from apple.com but I dont know how to  install it since it's an .exe file... Please help me...

Bootcamp Assistant is in your utilities folder. It is part of OSx. It is not downloaded.
I don't know what you downloaded that is a .exe file but .exe files are Windows executable files not OSx install files.Perhaps you downloaded the Windows Support software. If so, these are the Windows drivers that are run from within Windows. Be more specific about what you downloaded.

  • If your iPad is stolen, how do you know if the thief has reset it?

So my iPad was stolen (I know who did it, etc, Police know, whateves.) However, I hear that even though I put it in lost mode, put an activation key on it, and have activated the Find my Iphone, I know there are ways of erasing my iPad completely. So here's my question: If you go to iCloud or to your Apple Support where it lists the device registry for all devices you have, does that disappear the moment your iPad is erased? Or is there any clear indication of whether or not the thief cleared the device? Thanks!

If the iPad was running iOS 7, the thief/finder will not ever be able to use it.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
That's because the Boot Camp volume was created, but your Mac hasn't been set up to start automatically from the Windows disc. Insert the Windows DVD and press C key while your Mac is starting to start Windows installation.
If you want to make sure that everything is correct, open Boot Camp Assistant and choose the option to remove Windows 7. Then, open that application again, select the option to install Windows 7 and you will be able to install Windows as usual

  • Boot Camp access to mac partition

    Hi.
I have Windows 7 Pro on Boot Camp, which is also on a server 2003 domain. When the windows network users log in, they can access the Mac Partition. How do I prevent this from happening?
I know it is read only, but I prefer to have them access only the Windows partition when logged into Windows, and only have them access the Mac partition, when they are logged into Snow Leopard.
    Thank you!

    Rename AppleHFS.sys and AppleMNT.sys
By doing the following you will disable HFS mount / read mode on windows XP, Vista, 7.
Navigate to c:/windows/system32/drivers/AppleMNT.sys, rename the AppleMNT.sys file to something like AppleMNT_keep.sys or something of your likings.
The faulty HFS driver is a valid concern. It seems to happen on many systems.
    You find it in Windows/system32/drivers/AppleHFS.sys
Renaming to AppleHFS_disabled.sys will avoid the blue screens until you have found another solution or Apple updates Bootcamp 3
After renaming both myself because they are no longer "*.sys" or something? they are gone. In my case AppleHFS prevented Windows Backup from running to end and was causing error "some files skipped" and while some might find reading convenient, I prefer Windows not have even read-only access.
You can probably do better with MacDrive8.

  • HT1899 How do i boot to mac after boot camp

How do i boot back to mac after boot camp? I was in the middle of installing windows 7 when i received an error message saying the partition needs to be in a diff format ( NFTS ). I tried restarting my mac but now its saying "no bootable device - insert boot disk"

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
You have to format the volume using NTFS in Windows installer. After you've installed Windows, press X key while your computer is starting to start in Mac OS X

Yes. Windows supports external USB drives.

Have you seen this type of problem before? I think it could be a serious issue for anyone in a similar position.
No; but then, I've not had occasion to use TDM. I've been using firerwire drives for over 10 years, both FW400 and FW800, with no issues except a bit of instability using a B&W G3 machine.
TDM should be safe. Using cautious, manual copying of files from the Target machine to the Host machine should not result in unexpected loss of files or damage to the Target drive's directories. It should behave exactly the same as if it were an external (to the Host) firewire drive.
    •  I don't suppose there is anything I can do to 'put back' lost items from a separate Time Machine drive which has an up to date backup on it.
There is probably a way to do that - seems to me that's one of the reasons for a Time Machine volume.
On the other hand, if the Time Machine volume is rigidly linked to the now-absent OS on the original drive, there may be no way to effectively access the files in the TM archive.
I know that using a cloned drive would work well in this instance.
I have no experience with Time Machine, so perhaps someone who has will chime in with suggestions.
With the machine in TDM with the other machine, have you tried running Disk Utility to see if you can effect repairs to the drive?

  • Won't book into mac after boot camp delete

I tried to install windows with boot camp assistant and had a hang up in the installation. New partition had been created and windows was installing, and then hung up. I decided to install with vmware, so through boot camp assistant, I deleted windows partition before installing vmware. Windows through vmware installed with no problem, but now when I restart my computer, it tries to boot into windows and says it can't find the startup disc. If I hold the option key down during restart, I can choose the mac partition (the only option it shows, no windows partition) and it starts up with no problem. Ran disc utility, and it shows only the mac partition. Boot camp assistant shows no windows loaded. How do I get rid of the startup problem?
    Thanks for any help-

Open the Startup Disk pane of System Preferences and select the hard disk.

  • Boot Camp, Vista and Mac Pro X1900XT

    Hey all,
I'm experceing what appears to be a common problem with the Mac Pro with X1900XT option and Boot Camp.
Vista installs file and everything is recognized except for the Radeo X1900XT card. When I boot up, I get what appears to be 16-colors displayed. When I tried to use my Boot Camp driver disk, everything installs fine except for the Radeon card.
I've also tried downloading and installing Windows Vista Catalyst drivers from ATI.com (version 7.3 as the release notes mentioned HDMI is supported by that version) and still the same problem and now my Vista crashes constantly before I log in.
Has anyone experienced? Suggestions or a workaround?
P.S - I also own a black macbook and the same copy of Vista worked flawlessly on it, even with Aero effects turned on.

The Mac Pro needs 4 FB-DIMMS minimum.
While this Mac Pro I own is the most capable, flexible and enjoyable machine I have ever owned, who says it will run circles around your friend's custom built? I suspect for many/most tasks you would be correct. Except for 3D simulation. PC video cards have higher performance clocks and drivers.
After using my MP 2.66 for 6 weeks as a PC and a Mac I have concluded:
This is a Mac, and should be used to run Mac OS (the real reason to buy a Mac). While it's great to be able to run XP and Vista on a Mac, for general purpose apps usage (geek nirvana), if high performance video cards are critical get a PC.
The Macs strength, is the dividends returned by it's tight integration as a platform. For example, I popped in a second video card and it just worked. No half dozen pop-ups telling me about new hardware and all that blather.
Once I get this sling off of my arm, I will be building a PC for heavy duty simulation.

  • Boot Camp Assistant won't resize partition

I am trying to install Windows 7 via Boot Camp. I get an error message when trying to create the partitions. It says: "The disc cannot be partitioned because some files cannot be moved. Back up the disk and use Disk Utility to format it as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp Assistant again."
I am a little confused by the back up and restore part. I use SuperDuper to clone OS X. Is it that to be used somehow? I would like instructions on the backup and restore process. Thanks.

So you never tried or tested your SuperDuper backup clones are bootable, and worked when restored?
That really all there is to it in a nutshell.
You can also do other things like use Apple Restore tab in Disk Utility or from TimeMachine. But I prefer SuperDuper.
Your drive doesn't have enough unfragmented contiguous free space and may also have some files at the end of the drive. Installers and such updates tend to fragment and scatter where files are.
Some people also buy iDefrag and try that - very slow process.

  • Help!  Boot Camp has messed up my partition table!

I used Boot Camp to create a 60GB partition on my hard drive for a Windows installation; however, Boot Camp crashed and hung part way through. I left it for an hour but ultimately had to kill it forcibly.
Now I'm left with 60GB missing from my hard drive, but no partition to delete to reclaim the lost space.
Running diskutil on /dev/disk0 reports the following:
    /dev/disk0
    #: TYPE NAME SIZE IDENTIFIER
    0: GUIDpartitionscheme *465.8 Gi disk0
    1: EFI 200.0 Mi disk0s1
    2: Apple_HFS Macintosh HD 404.9 Gi disk0s2
I've tried booting from the installation disc and running a repair via Disk Utility. This appeared to find some errors but, after repairing them, my hard disk is still 60GB down.
Short of reinstalling OS X, is there anything else I can do to remove this partially-created partition and claim back my disc space?
    Message was edited by: m0thr4

Fixed it by backing everything up in Time Machine, booting off the installation DVD, erasing my main HDD (which brought its capacity back to 465GB) and then performing a restore from the last full backup.
