After Boot Camp partition, iMac no longer boots

Hi, I have a 20" iMac Core Duo (the first Intel Mac off the line) running Snow Leopard 10.6.4. I ran the Boot Camp Assistant to partition my hard drive, and it successfully created the "BOOTCAMP" drive. When it asked for my installation CD, I tried loading a Windows installation partition through a USB hard drive, but the assistant would not recognize it as an install disk. So, I closed out of the assistant early, leaving the Boot Camp partition in place. Eventually, I rebooted my machine in an attempt to boot directly from the USB drive and resume installation.
However, I found the machine will not boot at all. It powers on normally, makes the startup sound, but after a few seconds I'm left with just a flashing folder and question mark icon. Holding down Option-key at startup does nothing. Trying to boot from my Snow Leopard disc by holding down C or D during startup does nothing. Holding down Command-S does nothing. Holding down Shift-key does nothing. Resetting the PRAM does nothing.
What can I do? Is there some way I can access the on-board EFI to make sure the correct startup disk is selected? Why am I unable to boot from my CD drive?

On OSX go to System Preferences the Startup Volume and reset your Windows 7 partition to be the default.
On the next reboot it should automatically boot into Windows.
A PRAM-reset http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1895 can be the cause of this behavior.

Soooo...coming new to this thread, after reading of it on NERDR.COM.
Have new iMac 27" and have been TRYING to load and use Win 8.1 Enterprise (MSDN) on BootCamp in Mavericks 10.9.3.
Could not even get setup to load until after I removed my three external G-Drives, finally got it to load, and actually got Windows pretty much configured and activated, and loaded Office 2013 and VISIO. But, I have an increasing number of BSOD (I assume it is) issues with kernel_security_check_failure which stop the computer, nothing works, and I have to power off. This has caused drive issues, and while I've been repairing them, I can no longer boot into Windows. Tried repairing that with the original Win 8.1 DVD, but, Automatic Repair can't fix, and I was unsure if using BootRec was a good idea?
So ran the three SUDO commands on my Drive 0, and here are the results (had to paste a screen shot, as, SOMETHING in the middle (blue) text won't allow me to post it):
Question is, should I go ahead and use the gdisk utility to repair things, or...something else?
And...if there is some kind of issue with using Boot Camp when you have external drives attached, what can be done to get around that?

The fdisk output shows that it is a single GPT disk. Has any disk manipulation been done, like resizing or repartitioning.
Your GPT looks correct. If you create a Hybrid MBR via gdisk and include partitions 2,3 and 4 and make 4 bootable, does Windows partition show up in Startup and as a separate volume in Finder?

I currently do this successfully via MobileMe and Outlook Exchange
However, iCloud requires that syncing with Windows requires Vista or newer (so gotta go to Windows 7, 'cuz ain't going Vista)
Migrate all my Windows applications and files without having to do clean installs
I know, clean installs are always better
However, IT support at work is always overloaded, so I choose this route for now
Also, I regularly use Super Duper to back-up (clone) my internal HD -- and have restored a number of times, always successfully -- so that necessary step is well covered.

Boot Camp Partition no longer shows in StartUp Control Panel

My Boot Camp partition no longer shows in StartUp Control Panel, but does show up using Option Key at startup. This started soon after the latest Parallels update. The Boot Camp partition seems normal and healthy in the finder. Once started via the Option Key, Windows XP-SP3 runs fine. Upgrading to BC 3.0 did not have any affect.
I've tried LOTS of troubleshooting strategies, including completely deinstalling Parallels. Deleting obvious preferences, etc.. No joy.
Any suggestions?

if I remember correctly Parallels installs some kind of file system driver to OSX to access NTFS files system partitions.
The 'case of the missing Windows partition' is widely spread when using these NTFS file system drivers in OSX.
(Others are NTFS-3G; Paragons NTFS for Mac and Tuxera NTFS for Mac).
To my knowledge there is no other remedy to this phenomenon then to deinstall the NTFS drivers.
But as long as the Option-key is working maybe you can live with it.
Or use rEFIt http://refit.sourceforge.net/ as a Boot-Menu.

should be no problem.
Best case is you can activate online via Internet.
Worst case is you have to call Microsoft and explain that it is the same computer after a mainboard failure.

Windows disc does not update after resizing boot camp partition

When I bought my iMac, it came with a 500 GB HDD. I used bootcamp to make a 200GB windows partition and a 300GB Mac partition. The other day I bought a 250GB SSD, and moved everything from my 300GB Mac partition onto the SSD.
My plan was to use the whole 500GB HDD for windows. So, I deleted the 300GB Mac partition and made it free space on the drive. I then expanded the boot camp partition to take up the whole drive using Mini Tool on windows 7.
Now, windows 7 shows that my drive is 465GB, but when I boot into mac, the bootcamp hard drive still reads 200GB and 300GB are "free space" even though I expanded the drive using Mini Tool.
I tried to fix this by filling up the hard drive with an extra 120 GB so it exceeded the 200GB limit that windows shows. But when I booted back into OSX to see if it had worked, none of the files were showing up in the drive, making me believe that boot camp and OS X are not reading changes I am making to the bootcamp drive when I use Windows.
How can I change this so Disk Utility shows the full size of the disc, like Mini Tool does?

Re-sizing Windows partitions is not supported on Bootcamp. It requires a clean install. The other option is using Winclone.

I have a problem with Windows activation.
My configuration:
iMac 27.4 GB Memory, dual processor, OS X Snow leopard, Windows 7 in a Boot Camp partition
I use Windows 7 in 2 ways:
by starting the machine in the Boot Camp partition (with 4 GB memory)
by opening a session VMWARE Fusion under Mac OS X (with 1 GB memory)
No problem (except: very slow with starting and black screen - problem discussed in the same forum)
My problem: how to activate Windows?
I activated Windows after starting via Boot Camp: no problem
But when I use Windows via VMWARE Fusion, I receive a message “you must activate this version of Windows 7 - there remain xx days” I understand that the hardware configuration is not the same one, but I use Windows 7 out of only one machine (but with 2 different hardware configuration), therefore nothing illegal.
How can I solve this problem?
Has somebody the same problem ?

You need to activate Windows 7 in BootCamp and in Fusion. Microsoft allows multiple free activations. Can no longer see Boot Camp Partition

I was having problems with booting into Boot Camp/Windows 7 (I was just getting a black screen), so I attempted to delete the boot camp partition and reinstall it. When I did that, the program hung for a while, and finally said there was an error deleting the partition. However, it appears it like halfway deleted it, as it no longer shows up! When I go into disk utility, Macintosh HD shows blue, and then there is a 50 GB partition (the size of my bootcamp) that is white, but it is unlabeled. I cannot adjust the partition to make it the whole HD, and if I go to boot camp assistant, and try to make a new bootcamp partition, it bounces back with an error message as well. I am wondering how I can restore the partition back to the original all mac hd partition..ANy help would be greatly appreciated!!

When you move to a new OS: clone your system, make sure you have backups you can use - for each - the partition table "rules" change with each new OS. And you want to reformat a drive from time to time especially then.
Carbon Copy Cloner 3.4 is a good way to clone your OS X partitions.
Basically, "start over" and restore to one HFS volume with OS X then run Boot Camp Assistant, then restore with Winclone image you made easier.

All files on Boot Camp partition mysteriously erased after 10.5.3 update

My wife's MBP 2.4 was running 10.5.2 with a Boot Camp installation of Windows XP. The other night she upgraded to 10.5.3 and everything on her Boot Camp partition was erased somehow.
She spent most of the day working in Windows. During the day someone gave her a usb key with some photos on it that when she plugged it in to her computer something came up in Turkish (she is presently in Turkey) that her friend said she should just close the window and she did. She shut down and switched over to the 10.5.2 install, repaired permissions, and then ran software update to go to 10.5.3. I believe her Boot Camp is updated to the most recent version on the PC side. After the update completed she went to go back into Windows and could not start up in it. It turned out somehow everything on the Boot Camp partition was gone. The partition name was the same as it had been previously and it shouls as all of the space available. None of the material was in the Trash on the Mac side and she had quite a build up in the Trash folder - so it wasn't put in the Trash and then the Trash emptied. It was as if someone had reformatted the partition.
I would chalk this up to user error when she was in disk utility maybe or someone in her studio screwing around with her computer but the same thing apparently happened to one of her classmates shortly before leaving for Turkey. Anyone heard of this happening or have any thoughts?
I had her saving all data to the Mac partition so luckily no data was lost - we just need to reinstall the programs to the Windows partition.

Nope, that didn't happen. The mbp has been loaded directly with Leopard since release day, and had few problems. I've done all the updates from 10.5.0 without any issues. But it was definitely something in the 10.5.3 update that hosed my video (or just a really, really strange coincidence and/or bad timing).
It's not just an OS driver, either. This is lower level than that, because I get NO video from a complete startup. There's no grey screen with the apple logo-- it stays completely blank. This almost surely means that the low-level firmware got corrupted or flashed incorrectly. The fact that the OS detects it as something completely different (Intel GMA X3100) supports this idea.
Thinking back, I did do the update with my laptop screen closed and using a 20" Apple Cinema Display, which is how I use the laptop 90% of the time. And in each of the previous updates, I'm certain they were installed similarly. I mention this, because someone else mentioned having the same issue as me, and noted that the update was done with an external display. Perhaps the firmware update is bugged so that if it doesn't detect the native display, it gets hosed...
I saw some other suggestions in another thread that sounded interesting. For instance, you can create a self booting CD on another Mac that reflashes the EFI (low level bios) to a factory setting. This could potentially fix it, and I would be willing to try it, if I still had my laptop.
In the future, just because things like this make me paranoid, I'll probably reboot the mbp and use only the native display before I do any updates...

Hello everyone,
I'm having a strange issue with Boot Camp(or possibly my Hard Drive in general). I had a working Win7 Ultimate 32-bit partition last night, then rebooted into Mac OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2). I tried rebooting into Windows 7 this morning, and it goes to a blank black screen(without the blinking cursor), and never loaded the OS. I tried accessing the Windows Boot menu to turn on visual debugging/safe mode/recovery console, and I never access that menu. I grabbed my Win7 install disc, and it also boots to a black screen. I was only able to get some display when I used a 64-bit only disc, and even that only gave me the "Windows is loading files" progress bar, and stayed there once the bar had filled.
I stuck an Arch Linux boot disc in the system, and was able to boot all the way to a bash console.
I then decided to back up my files, remove the Boot Camp partition and reinstall Windows 7. Same results as above. I never get to the installer to finish loading the Windows installer.
Anyone have any ideas?

Boot Camp partition not bootable after update

Hi All, hi Loner T!
After an OSX update I lost my Boot Camp partition. Reading you replies here on the forum, i was able to save my important files through testdisk, for what i'm really thankful! Following your instructions in this thread (Bootcamp disk0s4 gone after Yosemite update) the bootcamp partition finally appeared in finder and disk utility.
But sudo gdisk /dev/disk0 returns with this:
