After buying new PC, iPod Touch not syncing to iTunes

Specs:
PC with Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit version
iTunes 10.2.1.1, 64-bit version
iPod touch 2nd Generation, iOS 4.2.1
Situation:
After building a new PC, I can't sync my ipod touch to itunes. The iPod Touch has been restored to factory settings. When plugging the iPod in, iTunes says "Syncing to the ipod timed out." I re-restored the iPod touch again. After it reinstalls the iOs and begins to sync the iPod Touch, I get the messages:
"The ipod "xxx" cannot be synced. an error occurred while writing to the device."
After a while longer, it says:
"the ipod "xxx" cannot be synced. a folder was specified instead of a file."
I have already uninstalled/reinstalled itunes, unisntalled all apple programs in individually and reinstalled itunes, plugged my iPod Classic and tested its ability to sync (no problems), I've restored my iPod Touch over ten times.
I tried connecting the iPod touch to my old computer to see if it still works and it was able to detect it. I've turned off Windows Firewall in my new pc and tried syncing the ipod but that didn't work. I can't see my iPod Touch as a drive in My Computer in my new PC. I've checked device manager and there are no ? or ! icons next to any devices.
Suggestions? I've researched this over 4 hours, called tech support, searched this forum, and quite frankly, I'm ready to throw this thing out the window. Your help will be much appreciated.
Thanks.

Perfect, thanks. Rarer than it used to be, but P55 chipsets have been known to be cranky with iPod/iPad/iPhone connections on Windows 7 systems.
We'd better check to see if there's newer versions of the BIOS and/or chipset drivers available at ASUS for you. Head to the following page at ASUStek and try autodetecting your motherboard:

If there are updates available, and you update, does that help with the syncing performance?

  • 3rd gen iPod Touch not syncing with iTunes 10.4.1 on Lion?

I've had a 3rd gen 64GB iPod Touch for almost two years now and I've only had one problem with syncing it before. I followed this (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1747) and it helped. But since I updated my MacBook Pro to Lion, this article no longer applies and iTunes hasn't recognized my iPod. My iPod does show up in iPhoto though. Everything is fully updated and I restored my iPod using another computer, but even after doing that my iPod isn't recognized in iTunes. Also, my iPod won't go into recovery mode. It shows the connect to iTunes screen but when I connect it, nothing happens. I've tried restarting my computer and my iPod many times and I've tried everything I know.
Now, since restoring, I have nothing on my iPod and I use it every day so any help would be appreciated.

I figured out how to show the hidden files, but even after doing that, the files weren't there.  On the page that you showed me, it says "Note: These steps do not apply to OS X Lion" and since I am using Lion, it didn't work

Probably because you did not tell the iPod to sync the calendar in iTunes.

  • Ipod touch not showing in iTunes

    Anyone help?
On an imac with 10.6.1 Mac OS and iTunes 9.1.1
Recently the HDD failed and Apple replaced, but since then ipod touch not recognized in iTunes.
Have followed all the steps in the support document for resetting, rebooting, reinstalling etc. and ipod touch is recognized the first time after following this process, but then after that when I boot up my mac and iTunes a second time, it stops being recognized again. I cannot reinstall iTunes every time I want to sync my ipod touch!!! Anyone else had similar issues and solved?
    Thanks

I am having a similar issue. I have a 1st-generation iPod touch, and a MacBook running Snow Leopard (OS 10.6.3) and iTunes 9.1.1. It's a bit old now and the WiFi isn't very good, but my iPod touch still works perfectly, except that it doesn't show up in iTunes, which I discovered yesterday when I tried to sync some new music. I got my iTouch G1 the first week they came out and it worked perfectly with my iBook G4 running Tiger, and also worked perfectly with my new MacBook running Leopard which replaced the iBook when its logic board bit the dust. I recently updated to Snow Leopard (about a month ago now), and now my iTouch doesn't show up in my iTunes sidebar, but a volume shows up in Disk Utility that could only be this iPod and things do happen when I plug in the iPod (the first time I connected it since I added some Snow to my Leopard, iPhoto opened and prompted a download of a screenshot I'd taken with the iPod). I'm mostly writing this right now because the support page pertinent to this issue is down due to some sort of Apple web maintenance and I'm tired of getting the same error message. I actually have everything on my Mac backed up, and when I installed Snow Leopard I just did a basic installation but have been thinking of going back and doing a clean wipe and install and then getting the iTunes and iPhoto libraries et cetera off of my external HD. Would this fix my problem? I figure that since my iPod touch's files and system have been constant throughout this, it must be some issue with Snow Leopard, however before I wipe everything and have to set my system up again from scratch, I would like to know if this problem would be fixed by doing that or if there is some problem inherent in Snow Leopard that needs to be manually fixed.

  • IPOD TOUCH NOT WORKING WITH ITUNES

    I am using:
iPod Touch 16GB 1.1.4 (With $25 Software Upgrade)
    Windows Vista Premium Edition
    iTunes 7.6.2
Whenever I connect my iPod, the device connect sound is made and it shows up in the my computer window, but it will not show up or sync with iTunes.
I HAVE ALREADY TRIED THE FOLLOWING:
    Reseting the computer
    Reseting the iPod
    Using a different USB port
    Using a different cable
Erasing ALL of the iPod's contents (Yes I lost my $25 update as well)
Restarting the "APPLE MOBILE DEVICE SUPPORT" in the "systems" application
...As well as many other things, all with absolutely NO results.
I have tried to manage my ipod through other programs, nothing seems to work. I connected the iPod to a different computer and everything worked fine.
I ASSUME the problem has something to do with the iPod Touch's drivers; for whatever reason they might be corrupted or installed incorrectly, thus preventing the iPod from automatically reinstalling them as well as preventing the possibility of syncing.
My question is, how can I reinstall the drivers without having the iPod touch do it automatically?
Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

    I fixed the problem myself.
If anyone else has this same problem and is looking to fix it, here is what I did.
I found this on another site:
"Okay well I spent about an hour on the phone with Apple trying to fix this problem. The guy I talked to seemed to have delt with this problem before. He tould me that Apple was getting numerous calls about the iPod touch not connecting with iTunes. So here is the solution that worked for me.
The first thing you must do it uninstall iTunes and Quicktime using the controll pannel, add/remove hardware, on your windows computer. Once you have uninstalled both of thoes programes go ahead and look for anything else that is Apple and uninstall them as well. There should be an Apple updater or driver that is very critical to uninstall, this was the cause of iTunes not recognizing the new iPod Touch. Next make shure you have the very latest update for Windows on your computer, you can check this on Microsofts web page. Finnaly once you are shure you have UNINSTALLED EVERYTHING that says Apple, iTunes, or Quick time restart your computer and MAKE SHURE THAT YOUR IPOD IS NOT CONNECTED TO YOUR COMPUTER. Then download the newest version of iTunes and install it. Once the installation is complete go ahead and connect the iPod Touch and everything should work.
I am not shure if this will work for everyone but in my situation it worked. I hope it helps some of you out there!!"
That worked like a ******* charm. Hope this helps.

  • My 4 generation ipod touch is syncing from itunes, and every time it syncs it has to sync all the songs but on the ipod it says no content? What to do?

My 4 generation ipod touch is syncing from itunes, and every time it syncs it has to sync all the songs but on the ipod it says no content? What to do?

    Try the following:
    - A reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.

  • Now that I moved my itunes to a new computer why will my iphone and ipod touch not sync?

I just switched my itunes to my new laptop from my desktop (which no longer works).  Everything seemed to be ok after I updated to the newest version of itunes.  Now I cannot get my iphone (3G) and my ipod touch to sync at all.  In fact when I plugged in my ipod touch it erased everything I had on there.  I know these are older devices but I had no problems with syncing previously so why now?  Even the backups will not work.

You can only sync to one computer/iTunes library. If you switch iTunes will erase the iPod and replaces the media with what is in the iTunes library of the new computer.
    You should have done this:
Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive: Apple Support Communities
You said "Even the backups will not work.". What happens when you try to restore from backup?

  • I can't get my ipod touch to sync to itunes in my new computer

I've recently purchased a new computer, and installed itunes onto it. I've plugged in my ipod touch and itunes does not respond to it at all. no sync options, or anything. please help.

Before you do sync, copy the ENTIRE iTunes folder from the old computer to the new computer.  Otherwise on the initial sync it WILL wipe the content of the iPod and replace it with the blank library from the new computer.

  • IPod Touch not syncing w/ iMac iCal

First post! I sync my iPod Touch with my iMac thru the cable. Recently my iPod touch stopped syncing w/ my iMac. for example: the calendar events on the iMac are not transferred to the iPod. Also on the iPod when I create an event, it will only give me the choice of either Calendar [imap_.Mac]:Mail To Do or Calendar, not all my different calendars like before. I don’t know what happened to change this. I restored the iPod but nothing changed. Perhaps it was a software update?
I went to the genius bar and was told that the next time I synced the iPod, under the “Info” page to go to “Advanced”, Replace information on the iPod and click the boxes that I needed to replace. This did nothing. I then put an event on the iPod and synced it with the computer, the event was not transferred to the computer.
Is there a setting that needs to be changed?

    Greetings,
Have you restored the iPod? http://www.apple.com/support/ipodtouch/assistant/ipodtouch/

  • Ipod touch not syncing

I had to delete my user on my computer and now my ipod won't sync with itunes. How do I fix this?

I am having the same problem. I don't want to have to back up all my music onto another computer (most likely a laptop) just to get the right configurations.
This is not fair. The touch guide clearly states Mac + Windows. Not specifying vista or not.
Not to mention I've already returned another iPod touch for the same problem that I am having now. This is unbelievable.
This is really making me want to never have an iPod again.
I loved my mini! Now that that is toast I moved on to what apple promised to be the very best. Well apple I have yet to see it do its best.

  • My Ipod will not sync with Itunes - PLEASE HELP

I have a bunch of songs on my ipod that I have from my previous computer and they will not sync with Itunes on my new computer. I have authorized the computer, I have also selected the "transfer purchases from ipod" option, I have spent the last day reading through FAQs but have found no solution. How do I fix the problem? Thanks in advance for your help.

The transfer purchases option only works with music purchased from iTunes and you don't say if this is the case.
Here's some other option for Windows users.
First, try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
    See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it can be messy.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.
