After change the file access option 'No Access', I cannot start up my iMac. Only blue screen!
Hi experts,
I really need help.
I have several user accounts in my iMac G5.
Some reason - I don't know why I did - I went into the 'get info' of the Mac hard drive, and change the permission to the hard drive from 'Read and Write' 'to 'No Access' for the one of the user accounts.
After that, I switched the user as the one I just changed 'No Access'. But I couldn't do any action in that user space, like opening finder, starting any program.
So I re-started the computer and since then, I only see the blue screen (no arrow no nothing.).
I tried booting with Safe Mode, but still only show blue screen.
I tried booting with single user mode, still blue screen.
I can start up with the disk but couldn't restore the HD since there is no time point at all that I can go back.
What should I do? Please help me~
I tried booting with single user mode, still blue screen.
Changing permissions an a user account should not cause single user mode to fail. You changed permissions on something else. Could you provide more info on the folder you changed?
Some reason - I don't know why I did - I went into the 'get info' of the Mac hard drive, and change the permission to the hard drive from 'Read and Write' 'to 'No Access' for the one of the user accounts.
This is a little confusing. We need to know what folder you changed.
You might try Disk Utility repair permissions. Here is how to get into Disk Utility from the startup disk.
You can also get into the Terminal. Notice terminal is on the pull down. Check permissions on the root directory
mac $ ls -ld /
drwxrwxr-t 51 root admin 1K Dec 31 1969 /
mac $
verify & repair your startup drive
To verify & repair you file system on the startup drive, you will need to run disk utility from you installation DVD.
This article will tell you how to get to disk utility. Once in a disk utility, you can go and attempt to recover the disk.
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1417
To repair your startup drive, you will need to run disk utility from your startup DVD.
Mac OS X 10.4: About the utilities available on the Mac OS X 10.4 Install DVD
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2055
How to run disk utility from your startup DVD.
Insert your startup DVD into your reader. Power down your machine. Hold down to the c key. Power on your machine. This will bootup your startup DVD.
This will bring you to a panel asking you for your language. Pick your language.
You you come to the Install Mac OS panel. Do not install.
Click on Utilities menu item. This will give you a pulldown list of utilities.
Click on the disk utility.
You are now in disk utility. Pick your disk. Click on repair it should be on the lower right of the panel.
Once the repair completes successfully, you should update your permissions.
Verify a disk
As an alternative, you can verify that the filesystem on the disk is correct. You will not be able to repair the file system.
I suggest that you use disk utility to verify that your startup disk is OK.
Macintosh-HD -> Applications -> Utilities -> Disk Utility
Start up disk utility. On the left pane view, you will see a list of all your disks.
Click on your startup disk.
Click on the First Aid Tab.
Click on verify.
Hopefully your disk will verify. If not, you have to boot from your installation DVD and run Disk Utility from there to attempt to repair your file-system.

After I've changed the file name/format in Finder Aperture can't load/relink to the referenced file anymore. For some reasons I don't like to reimport the file.
As you told, the command "Locate Referenced File" doesn't work, if the filename doen't match exactly. And the filenames should keep their new names.
"Locate Referenced File" will be able to reconnect one file at a time, if you direct Aperture to the matching file in the Loate Referenced File dialog, but it will not be able to recognise the other matching referenced files and to reconnect them all at once with the "Reconnect All" button.
It will be a lot of work to reconnect the one by one. Usually it is much easier to rename the original master files using Metadata > Batch change in Aperture than to try to do that in the Finder. -
How to change the file pointer in random access file?
I have a file, now I want to add a line at both the beginning and ending of the file. Should I use random access in this case? How can I move the pointer to the end of the file in that case? Thanks!

Change the Show View Options' "All windows" default to "This window only"?
By default, all Show View Options panes are set to "All windows". Is it possible to change the default to "This window only"?
I regularly change icon sizes for various folders, but never for all windows. So every time that I use the Show View Options pane, it's an annoying "click This window only" process.

Once you click This Window Only and make your settings, then every time you open that particular folder it should remain at the This Window setting.
I find the default of All Windows really really annoying, but I am aware of no way to change this. Send Feedback to Apple:

It should be a user settable global preference, but it isn't.

How do I refresh after changing Photoshop file/AE file in PPRO cs3?
Hi all,
When I import a photoshop file to PPRO CS3 using AE/Photoshop CS3 everything is ok, but if I change the file (in PS or AE) I cannot see the updated file in PPRO, even though I did saved it (in AE/PS). Furthermore, I can see the new updated version of the file in the source window, but not in the monitor window, where I see the old version. Strange but true.
It seems that if I had like a refresh button it would be great idea...
Any ideas?
RoyDid you use the "Edit Original" (Can't remember exact name) Dynamic Link function in Premiere Pro to fire up Photoshop to edit the Photoshop file?

I am using pse 11 0n windows vista for years and it has suddenly started freezing on starting, I am now unable to access the organizer it freezes on the blue screen, the editor can be opened. 'The installer has insufficient privileges to modify this file C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support\Web kit.resources\inspector\Images\Spinner Inactive Selected.gif.'
That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
Vista instructions in the following document: Check your hard disk for errors
Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards? -
Itunes 10.6.1.7 problem: when I change the file "media type" from 'Music' to 'Podcast' the file disapears from ITUNES. I do this via (1) right click, (2) select 'Get Info', (3) select 'options' tab, and (4) change media type. What is the problem?
Hi Memalyn
Essentially, the bare issue is that you have a 500GB hard drive with only 10GB free. That is not sufficient to run the system properly. The two options you have are to move/remove files to another location, or to install a larger hard drive (eg 2TB). Drive space has nothing to do with SMC firmware, and usually large media files are to blame.
My first recommendation is this: download and run the free OmniDiskSweeper. This will identify the exact size of all your folders - you can drill down into the subfolders and figure out where your largest culprits are. For example, you might find that your Pictures folder contains both an iPhoto Library and copies that you've brought in from a camera but are outside the iPhoto Library structure. Or perhaps you have a lot of purchased video content in iTunes.
If you find files that you KNOW you do not need, you can delete them. Don't delete them just because you have a backup, since if the backup fails, you will lose all your copies.
Don't worry about "cleaners" for now - they don't save much space and can actually cause problems. Deal with the large file situation first and see how you get on.
Let us know what you find out, and if you manage to get your space back.

I have already tried the all the steps in this link.
'''http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Downloads%20window%20is%20blank?s=+downloads+list&as=s'''
I have changed the file to save to back to the original one as well.Try opening the problem files using a text editor or file viewer to see what the first few bytes contain. All valid FM binary files for FM 11 will contain <MakerFile 11.0> in the first bytes of the file.
When updating books, it's sometimes better to just to create a new book file and add the files to that.
When renaming files in a book, changes at the system level will break any links/cross-references between files, so it's always best to use the Rename option in the Book file to change FM file names. This will maintain the correct linkages. -

Hmm the advice has been not to use referenced libraries - you ignored and did it anyway and you find the advise not helpful
Furthermore the advice is that if you choose to use a referenced library that you assure that the path never changes - you also choose to ignore that advice and do it anyway - and you blame the peopson trying to help you
once again - you have one choice - change the file names back and put the files back in the exact same place - and again you are totally ignoring the advice and instead name calling and attacking the person giving you advice
Maybe life would be easier if you followed advice rather than ignoring it and then complaining that things no longer work
change the name back and you will be fine until the next problem you hit that is caused by choosing a referenced library
Have a nice day

There isn't a feature in Adobe Send for setting and end-date for a file's availability. At any time, you can Unshare the file, however.

How to change the file name of pdf file in html page?
Hi,
Actually my requirement is to upload 50 PDF files containing javascript in each file into flex page with the help of one html page.
i did the the javascript part by using batch processing.
now i want to call those pdf files one after another without changing the file name in html page
the code written in html page is
<html>
<body>
<object id="PDFObj"
data="http:\\localhost\pdf\20090807 - Batch 630.pdf"
type="application/pdf"
width="100%"
height="100%">
</object>
</body>
</html>
So every time i have to change that file name to acess another file.
Is there is any other way to sort this problem????
Plz anyone help me to sort out this problem with some code or some example.I once had a similar task for creating a webpage that I only use on my computer--a webpage that accesses PDF's and SWF's font previews from a list of fonts as "a href's". What you must do is utilize the power of the command line, whether on a Mac on a PC or on Linux, Linux being the most powerful (although Mac IS Unix). You must utilize variables, variable replacement, and then a command to print out the results of a "for" or "while" loop to a text file which will be your HTML file with each individual link automatically built into the HTML code. You will have a list of 50 links. If you are simply looking for a GOOGLE type functionality where you click on "Next" and "Previous" you will have to dig deeper into variable replacement--this I don't know how to do yet but there are books for command-line shell interpreters. One shell interpreter is called "bash" (born-again shell) and there is a book on the market which gives a detailed example of how to replace variables in a shell script. Again, I don't know how it works. I will try to learn this at a later time when I am more seasoned with the basics of shell scripting.

Hi everyone,
I have the following issue. After changing the context path, via felix console, I can not checkout the content via vlt. Before that, I could checkout without any problems.
I am using CQ5.5, CRX2.3, context path: /Test
That is what I am trying:
vlt -v --credentials admin:admin co http://localhost:23310/Test/server/crx.default
Connecting via JCR remoting to http://localhost:23310/Test/server
[WARN ] Authentication required to access repository descriptors
[ERROR] checkout: com.day.jcr.vault.vlt.VltException: Unable to mount filesystem
caused by: javax.jcr.ItemNotFoundException: Not Found
caused by: org.apache.jackrabbit.webdav.DavException: Not Found
Other versions I tried:
vlt -v --credentials admin:admin co http://localhost:23310/crx
vlt --credentials admin:admin co http://localhost:23310/Test/server
vlt --credentials admin:admin co http://localhost:23310/Test
vlt --credentials admin:admin co http://localhost:23310/Test/crx
To verify if I could connect to the instance properly I started CRXDE
and try to connect to "http://localhost:23310/Test"
After click the ok button I got that error:

Finder changes the file name in Save/Save As dialogue box
Whenever I save or save as a file, the dialogue box opens, but when I make the file list active when using a mouse, the file name I click to changes the file name I am saving. I simply want to activate the file list window so I can find the right folder. For example if I am looking for a folder called "Receipts" I want to be able to click on the file list window to activate it and then type the first 2 letters of the folder-- "re" and then save the file in that folder. The finder keeps changing the name of the current file whenever I click on one of the "greyed-out" file names? This doesn't make sense unless of course I want to replace that file.
Is there a shortcut that makes the file list window in the dialogue box active while in the SAVE/SAVE AS dialogue box??Yes, this example of horrible UI design has been a problem since "Panther". It illustrates what happens when you try to copy UI behaviour from another OS, do it poorly, and end up with a mess. In 10.3 and 10.4, the combination of the renaming behaviour with the default "replace" selection in the resulting save can result in data loss.
Compared to the old Mac OS where a tab would flip the focus between the text field for the file name and the file browser, the current behaviour either doesn't allow enough keyboard access to controls, or with "full access" enabled, too many to cycle through easily. The inability to switch focus to the file browser using the mouse (depending on the view) is a horrible productivity loss. Having to recheck the filename before saving is a horrible productivity loss. Since there is no "undo" for the renaming in most files, having to retype the name is again, a horrible productivity loss.
If they had done it right (a simple change, like requiring a modifier to rename), users would probably welcome the "rename" feature as a useful addition. Instead, it has the feel of something a junior Windows-trained programmer slipped in past their supervisor.
In short, I am not aware of any workaround or hack to avoid this "renaming" behaviour. I doubt it will do any good since people have been doing so since "Panther", but you could try submitting feedback:
