After completely depleting battery, full charge leaves it at 95 percent.

Probably just needs a software update, but was wondering if this has happened to others.
16gb iPad, charged using wall socket and the charging accessories that came with iPad.
This has happened multiple times.

I too show indication of this. I've tried going through a full charge cycle, but every time I charge my iPad and it get's around 93-97% the icon will change to the "charged" wall socket. Within about 30min. it is at 100%, and I'll leave it in for another 20min. just to make sure. I wonder how many others experience it. Perhaps its an issue with the battery monitor; hopefully simple software fix as I don't think its necessarily normal.

I have just got my iPad2 and am very pleased with it. I have a question regarding the monthly (recommended) battery full charge.  Should I let the battery completely die down to nothing at all before I plug in to recharge or would this complete drain be bad for my iPad?

It's not bad for it - on this page www.apple.com/batteries/ipad.html it says :
For proper reporting of the battery’s state of charge, be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month (charging the battery to 100% and then completely running it down).

  • When should I charge my ipad? How far down should I let it go? And is it ok to leave on the charger after it is as full charge?

Not sure when to charge the ipad.....does it hurt to get too low? Or to leave it on the charger for a long  time?

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.

At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • Can I use my Macbook Air 13" mid 2013 with plugging charger even at 100 % battery full charge?

I can't decide whether using My Macbook Air 13" mid 2013 with charging power adapter connected even though it is fully charged Or using Macbook Air with unplugging charger after fully charged. Please advice me to maintain my Macbook's battery at good condition.

It will not hurt it as long as you do not leave it on the charger for an extensive period of time (say, days).

  • After Yosemite Update Battery Wont Charge

After the Yosemite update my battery will not charge. Yellow light on power adaptor, reset SMC and PRAM - still nothing. Sits at 0%.
    Any ideas?

Take the MacBook Pro and charger to an Apple store genius bar and have the techs test them to see if there is a coincidental hardware failure.

  • Does allowing the Battery to drain to 0% depletes full charge capacity?

I bought a Macbook pro 17-in intel core 2 duo 2.4Ghz from the Phiippines on July 10, 2007 and brought it to Ireland couple of days after. Later, I upgraded to leopard 10.5.2 with 4 Gig memory. Auto updates have been installed since its first use. The only problem I encountered (except for some Safari quitting unexpedtedly) was in the battery.
Here is the record of my MBP battery use:
    Battery information
Battery : MBP 17in Rechargeable Battery
    Model: A1189 10.18V 68Wh
    Serial: 6 _ _ _ _ _ DVYF1A
    My Battery practice:
    - I wait for 5% remaining charge before I plug the charger
    - At several occasions I forgot to plug the charger before remaining charge goes to 0%
    - I usually unplug the wall charger as soon as full charge is indicated.
    - I sometimes leave the wall charger plugged for several hours after green light shows.
    - I use my MBP for an average of 12 - 14 hours a day. At times I dont shut it down and just allow it to go to sleep mode.
    - Calibrated about 10 times.
    Record of Battery Life/Charging
Battery Cycle Life (based on istatpro) Full Charge Capacity (based on MBP)
    1 100% No Record
    62 100% 6492 mAh
    66 100% 6484 mAh
    100 100% 6484 mAh
    300 98% 6213 mAh
    301-317 95-99% 5850 - 6109 mAh
    318 83% 5254 mAh
318 (at 3908mAh or 53% remaining charge MBP suddenly shuts down)
318 (MBP shuts down if wall charger is unplugged) Tried calibrating and resetting SMC but did not work.
I then checked if my MBP is still covered by the one-year warranty despite more than 300 battery cycles, no bulges present at apple website https://selfsolve.apple.com/GetWarranty.do (here you have to enter your MBP serial number)
I brought my MBP for check up here in Dublin, Ireland and indeed the problem was the battery. They replaced my battery with a new one without cost.
Thanks Apple my new battery now has a Battery Health of 100% with the following initial cycle records:
    Battery Cycle Full Charge Capacity
1 (33% remaining charge as soon as I received it) 6810 mAh
1 (I then used the remaining charge up to 1%) 6726 mAh
    1 (full charged) 6810 mAh
1 (full charged) I let it rest for few hours then checked 6879 mAh
    2 (full charged) 6879 mAh
    3 (full charged) 6876 mAh
    4 (full charged) 6830 mAh
    5 (full charged) 6845 mAh
5 (full charged) I let it rest for 1 hour then checked 6868 mAh
    6 (3% remaining charge) 6829 mAh
I forgot to plug the charger (battery drained to 0%) 6492 mAh
Notice the sudden drop of full charge capacity in cycle 6? How do I recover the lost charge capacity? Does letting the battery drain to 0% depletes its full charge capacity?

The short answer is that yes, completely draining the battery has a slight negative impact on full charge capacity. The full charge capacity does fluctuate a bit over time, but the general trend is downward no matter what you do - there's a continuous chemical reaction occurring in the battery, with a finite life.
However, I note that you state +I wait for 5% remaining charge before I plug the charger+; if you are doing this because that is what you need to do, i.e. you do most of your work away from a power source, fine. But, if you are doing that because you believe that's best for your battery, that is incorrect. The 'old' NiCd batteries performed best with full discharge and full charge. The 'newer' Li-based batteries do not have this requirement, and in fact perform better over time when used frequently but 'lightly', avoiding full discharges (except for the occasional battery calibration, which allows the OS to more accurately determine the time to charge and discharge).

  • 5-10 minutes of use on a full charge then unexpected shutdown

Just recently I have only been getting 5 - 10 minutes of use out of my battery after being fully charged. just a month or two ago I would get 1 - 1.5 hrs. The computer will just unexpectedly shut down with no warning. The battery meter in the menu bar shows almost full charge when it shutsdown. Last year Apple replaced my battery after it started swelling. I have tried resetting the SMC controller by unplugging the battery, disconnecting the power cord and holding the power button down for 5 seconds.
Mac Book Pro 2Ghz Core Duo
    Battery Full Charge Capacity 2498mAh
    Battery Cycle Count 334
    SMC Version 1.2f10
    Battery Update 1.2

While that's technically true, the Full Charge Capacity is very low for a battery with just over 300 cycles.
Several posters in the forums have reported getting free replacement batteries from Apple under their 2 year battery warranty extension even with +more than+ 300 cycles. It's probably worth a visit to an Apple Store or a call to AppleCare to try.
FYI, the warranty extension and an an acknowledgement of the battery issues is here:

  • Is 5232 mAh Full Charge Capacity Normal?

Ok so I bought my macbook pro in february 2011, the new 2011 basic 13" model. I have been having tons of problems since, such as my battery life seems to be terrible, random freezing and lagging, I only really use Mail and Safari and it often freezes and lags especially when I have an email coming in it will completely freeze Safari and I will have to restart my computer because everything will freeze. I was told by apple everything is fine…of course.. and I was also told it was my fault because I have smc fan control installed.. Please let me know what you think of the situation and what I should do…
My main concern is that my battery full charge capacity doesn't seem to be normal, >> Full Charge Capacity (mAh): 5323 < Is this normal?

    download cocnutbattery from http://www.coconut-flavour.com/.
With that you can easily see age of your mac, the design capacity of the battery and the number of cycles.
And the reason for freezing and hanging and high temperature of the cpu or gpu is not the battery:
Start Applications/Utilities/Activity Monitor, choose <all processes>, click the %CPU column and see which process "eats" the cpu, say with more than 50%.

  • Full charge in 2 hours or so (ipod touch 4g)

Hi My ipod touch 4g charges from complete discharge to full charge in about 2 hours 20mins is this right

I don't know whether it is normal or not, but i have the exact same thing. It happened just a moment ago. And the icon definately showed a plug and not a lightning thing. So maybe somebody else knows anything about it, because i'm also a bit worried or just a little concerned.

  • Leaving charger plugged in after battery full 100%

I often accidentally leave my macbook Pro plugged in after it is fully charged, or from time to time I've left it accidentally plugged in all night.  What is this doing to my battery life? I get really worried when it happens. Is there any way of automatically stopping the power flow after the battery is fully charged?

Charging automatically stops when the battery is fully charged, and doesn't start again until the battery's charge level falls below 93% even if the adapter remains connected. You can't do your battery any harm by leaving your AC adapter connected whenever it's convenient, as long as you calibrate the battery from time to time: once a month if the battery is never used to power the computer, or every 2-3 months if you do use the battery regularly.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1490
    In short, stop worrying.

  • Ipod Nano 2G battery drains suddenly after completly charge , software 1.3.

I bought Ipod Nano 2G and have this problem: after Charge 4 hours, then, when I use it , Ipod suddenly restart and the battery drains near to 98% of capacity, or when I power off the nano after use it, next morning or severals hours later, the battery is completly drain, and Ipod doesn't response. he Just response until I connect to USB port of my Computer or ITrip, and show the "extremely battery low... message".
I use my ipod only in my car with my iTrip car, but some times y use it for some Long travels in plane, its works ok, but some days ago ( near to sept. /8 ) start with this failures.
It's may be related with the new software version 1.3.1 ? Itunes install it some days ago in my Ipod and start with this problems.
some one have the same problem?

Well , after all the software test to see the battery behavior, my ipod still drains all battery power, even if the ipod are in off mode. but if I play songs after full charge it plays over 8 hours (IS NOT THE BATTERY THE PROBLEM) . but some times the Ipod reboot randomly and start with 2% of baterry charge after that.
I test using 1.0, 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3.1 software. and the same problem.
    therefore: IS NOT THE SOFTWARE.
So I decide send MY Ipod nano to the technical support office in my country/city using my APPLE warranty, now I just wait for the answer from the technichian.
