Thanks for replying. I am converting from MS Office Word document to Adobe Acrobat Document and opening with Reader XI - sorry my mistake.
I now notice another problem. On trying to open a specific hyperlink in the pdf version I get the message  'Acrobat does not allow connection to: www.biblegateway.com'.  Why would there be a restriction?

I have adobe acrobat pro for windows and it is freezing up when I try to convert a word file to pdf... I have tried to get this done six ways from Sunday but it is just not working... help!  Chris.

It would be helpful to know what version of Acrobat, WORD, and operating system.
Without that info, I would suggest at this point to open your WORD file and then go to the print menu and print to file using the Adobe PDF printer. Open the created file in Distiller and see if you get a PDF. If so, check to see if AcroTray is running in the background.
You say you tried many ways. It would help to know what you tried and what worked or did not work, and at what point the failure occurs.

  • How to convert a word file into PDF in command line ?

    Hi,
I want to convert a word (excel, powerpoint, ...) into a PDF using a windows command line.
    The command :
    c:\> acrodist toto.ps
is working file and the output is a PDF file (toto.pdf)
But if i try with a MS office word file it is not working
    c:\> acrodist toto.doc
The output in the console is:
%%[ Error: undefined; OffendingCommand: ÐÏࡱá ]%%
%%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%%
%%[ Warning: PostScript error. No PDF file produced. ] %%
If i do a right clic on the file with the mouse and select in the context menu the option convert to PDF it is working fine :-\
How can i convert that kind of file with a command line ?
    Thanks for your help
    Xav

    >But, from the windows explorer, if i do a right clic on the word document, with the context menu, i can directly convert to PDF
This is equivalent to using the PDFMaker facility in Word - that is,
the Acrobat button. Which is also the same thing that is done when you
use File > Create PDF > From File in Acrobat.
What it does is print to a PS file *and* do a lot of additional
processing to write stuff about links, tags etc. into the PS file.
    >(no tmp PS file is used, cause the links are still working).
This isn't true, but it's certainly the case that you won't get links.
There seems to be no API, via any mechanism, still less the "obsolete"
(Microsoft's view) command line, to use PDFMaker from your program.

  • How do I correct spacing errors that occured when converting a word file to pdf?

I have a microsoft word file that when converted to pdf is changed. If I import it I loose the font style if I upload it I keep the fonts but the spacing on the document is all wrong. Any suggestions?

    Hello there,
Thanks for posting; this is an error that we see from time to time, and typically has to do with the document's formatting. Sometimes a font used in the original document is not available on our conversion servers; while we do have a lot of fonts installed on those servers, we don't have every font in the world. A missing font will be substituted and those substitutions can lead to the results you observed. Additionally, image placement, line breaks, and page breaks sometimes change if you save to other formats. Although there's not a specific button to click to fix the problem, you may want to toy with any strange or special spacing that you've used in the document, or substitute a more standard font of your own choosing. Please let me know if you need more help or information!
    Best regards,
    Rebecca

  • After converting a Word DOC to PDF units on ruler change to points

Everytime I convert a Word (Office 2003) document into PDF using Adobe Acrobat 7.1.0 the units on the ruler under the tool bars convert themselves from centimeters to points. So I have to change it back in Tools. It's no big deal, but I'd be most grateful to anyone with  an idea how this can be prevented.

    ktomica,
The link Mike provides is to Adobe's "official" Acrobat updates location.
Because you are in 7.1.0 you'd need to process each version 7 update past 7.1.0 in sequence.
Do this sequence: 7.1.1 update the 7.1.2 then 7.1.3 then 7.1.4.
    Be well...

    Hi Jock,
I've checked your account, and all is well there. Please make sure that you're logging in with the same Adobe ID/password that you used when you signed up.
Then, clear the browser cache, and try logging in directly to https://cloud.acrobat.com.
Please let us know how it goes.

  • I want to convert a word file to a PDF

I want to convert a Word file to a PDF file. I can't get past the page that states choose the file I want to convert. Nothing happens when I select the word file I want to convert

    Hi larryjohn,
I'm sorry that you're having trouble converting your Word file to PDF. Does it happen with just one particular Word file, or are you running into the same issue with any Word file?
For starters, please try the following:
Clear your browser cache (steps to do this vary by browser)
If you're using a work computer, check with your IT team to confirm if you have firewall/proxy settings that restrict the ability to upload files to the internet.
Lastly, if the issue persists after the steps above, please try another web browser.  A list of supported browsers for accessing the ExportPDF service is available here: http://www.adobe.com/acom/systemreqs/
Please let us know how that goes, and if we can be of further assistance.
    Best,
    Sara

  • How do I convert a word file larger than 100 mb to pdf?

I use the adobe online pdf service to convert word files.  I have a file that is 101mb and the converter won't upload and convert the file. How do I convert this word file to pdf now?

    Hi adrentcdc,
There is a 100 MB file-size limit for uploading to the Adobe PDF Pack online service. Since no such limitation exists for Acrobat, you could use that to convert the file to PDF. You're welcome to download a free  30-day trial, and give it a spin. For more information, see www.adobe.com/products/acrobat.html.

  • Converting a word document to pdf loses bevel effect

Does anyone know why when converting a word document to pdf the bevel effect is completely lost?

Following up with AA XI and WORD 2010 on Win7. It worked find. Apparently WORD 2007 did not see the bevels and the do appear in WORD 2010. I also got the bevels using the Std job settings with both the Print and the PDF Maker. I am using 11.0.07, so if you are using an earlier version, you might consider updating to the most current version. Then again, you may not be using XI. I did note that the Print version used my default page size of letter rather than the A4 that PDF Maker picked up from the original document. That is easy to correct by paper selection in the printer properties. However, in both versions I saw issues that appear to be due to the printer metrics changes based on the Adobe PDF printer not being selected as the printer during editing. Two factors show up and make editing a bit harder -- no hard page breaks (ctrl-Enter) and the use of floating figures. The latter is something I have lots of problems with, but you may be good with them. However, when the document reflows that can still be a problem. I did see some reflow problems in both files, so it is something you need to go back and review.
    The bevels:
The Reflow Problem (from PDF Maker on A4 paper):
Maybe that helps some. So info on your versions of WORD, Acrobat, and OS would help isolate issues. As I mentioned, this Acrobat is 11.0.07. Don't know why WORD 2007 did not see your bevels.

  • Conversion of Word file to pdf

I have Acrobat Distiller 8 settings set to A4 and pdf 1.4.
When I convert a Word file to pdf using Create file in Adobe Professional 8 the paper size is in inches and the pdf file is in pdf 1.6. The Word files have paper size A4.
What can I do the get the right settings in the converted pdf?
    Thanks and kind regards,
    Els

I don't think this is possible with the current version of portal. I've read you can add file type items through API's in one of the next versions.
Maybe you can then write a script using ghostscript/ps2pdf. I haven't used this product, but it looks promising. http://www.cs.wisc.edu/~ghost/doc/AFPL/index.htm

  • If I convert a PDF file to a Microsoft Word file can I delete pictures from the converted file

If I convert  PDF file to a Microsoft Word file can I delete pictures from the converted file?

    Hi sutterrot,
After a successful conversion from PDF to Word, you need to download the converted file locally on your computer.
You can then choose 'Enable Editing' button and then delete images/text or make other changes.

  • How to batch convert Word files to pdf

How do I batch convert Word files to pdf using Automator

Here is a drag/drop AppleScript solution that uses the command-line LibreOffice capability to convert MS Word (.doc, .docx) files into PDF. Drag/Drop a single file, or a folder of Word documents, and it will write the respective PDF back to the original file location. When it is done, an OS X Notification will slide out onto the Desktop and provide the count of processed files.
Save this AppleScript as a Desktop application that remains open after running. If you ignore the latter, the notification will not show when it is done. Tested on Mavericks 10.9.5.
    property name_extension : {"doc", "docx"}
    global fileCnt
    on open of finderObjects
        set fileCnt to 0
        repeat with i in (finderObjects)
if folder of (info for i) is true then
