After deleting message, focus goes to message above instead of below?

Quite hard to explain, but I have my email ordered by most recent received at the top.
Lets say the top 4 messages shown in my inbox are ones I want to keep. The 3 below are ones I want to delete.
The I highlight the 5th message and hit the delete button.
Mail then highlights the message above, where as Thunderbird on my PC would highlight the one below. This becomes very annoying when going through the inbox from the top and deleting as I am going.
Sorry if this doesnt make sense but does anyone know how this can be changed, or finds it a problem also?

I am having this same problem... I say problem, because I don't recall earlier versions of Apple Mail behaving this way. I upgraded to 10.6 right after it was released, noticed the behavior immediately but expected a resolution in the coming updates. Well, after applying 10.6.5 this behavior continues and to be honest - annoying. This performance disrupts the flow of reviewing and deleting/processing email.
Came here hoping for an answer or solution.
And to note: The iPhone does not do this. iPhone will recognize the order in which you are navigating and will continue the flow even after deleting a message.
We can't be the only ones annoyed by this performance.

    Usually when me and my friends have a group message it's fine, it's all going through iMessage and I've never had a problem but yesterday my messages were failing to send and today it says at the top 'Outgoing' instead of 'Group' like it usually does and also my messages are going through as a text not an iMessage but only on the group message?     If you have others that are receiving your imessaging  but not the group you are attempting to send to then do this:
    Click on your text messaging area using imessaging enabled and then type a message to yourself. Do this test to verify that your imessaging apple server is working properly. IF you get the messsage back to you in BLUE this indicates to you that both the outgoing and incoming text messaging is working as imessaging. With this piece of information verified that will indicate there are connectivity issues with individuals or all that are a part of the group you are attempting to contact. Please do not conclude that at a point in time this communication worked via imessaging that there may be some in the group that are now having conectiviity issues of their own.

    I've got my email boxes sorted from Oldest to Newest (so Newest messages are at the bottom).  When I select a message and hit delete, the cursor and action is taking me UP the list to the next OLDER one, instead of the more logical, normal action which would take it DOWN.
    So, say I'm viewing 10 messages, with the oldest message at the top -- #1 the oldest, #10 new.

    If I am viewing message 7 and hit delete --- it takes me up to message 6 ... not down to message 8.
    How can I change this?  It's annoying.

    OK, we figured it out - dunno how to fix it --- but here's what happens:
    The direction the list goes after you hit delete is based on the direction you were browsing before hitting delete.  So, if you are scrolling DOWN in your list, and hit delete, it will advance DOWN.
    On the contrary, if you are scrolling UP through the list, and hit delete, it advances UP.
    Not sure if there is a setting for this or not --- it's fairly intuitive now that I see what's happening.

  • How can I restore Thunderbird behavior so I can delete emails by pressing delete key multiple times (without using mouse to change focus back to message list)?

    I (like most people) get spam in my inbox. When there are multiple spam messages in a row in my inbox I used to click on the first message and then press the delete key repeatedly for each sequential spam message.
    After upgrading, this doesn't work. Instead, when I click a message it opens in the message preview pane and moves the focus to the message. Thus I need to click twice to even be able to press the delete key to delete one message. When I press the delete key, the message is deleted and the highlighted message becomes the next one in the list. This opens the message in the preview pane and again shifts the focus to the message. Thus I can't press the delete key again but must move the mouse to click on the message before I can delete it.
    As a result, what used to be a very fast process of weeding through spam has become a real annoyance.
    I realize I can hide the message preview pane to prevent the focus from moving, but this means I must delete solely based on the email subject/sender -- or open each message (which is even slower).
    I also realize that I can press tab multiple times (sometime 4, sometimes many more) to shift the focus back but that's not much faster than using the mouse.
    How can I prevent Thunderbird from shifting the focus away from the email list panel unless I actually click somewhere else?

    I guess it's time to switch to GMail.
    Such a trivial thing, but it irritates me every single time.

    I'm just going to repeat the relevant sections from my previous post with the screenshots this time:
    Below you'll see a snip of how my current folder structure appears. It's identical to yours, except there are no button files in the General Folder. Since you were kind enough to include a file name, I did a search on that specific one and it's nowhere to be found on my hard drive. Hmmm....
    I've seen others remark on how... "challenging".... Adobe's instructions can be sometime. I'll admit to having the same feeling when I was trying to download and install all the content files and the 7-zip stuff. Is the answer somehow that I screwed up that?  Note the 7-zip folder right above the Adobe folder. Here's a screen shot of that expanded folder contents:
    Does that look like you think it should? Have I not installed or extracted something correctly?
    Finally, the only other thing I can think of to give you as much info as you might need is to include a screenshot of where the "Functional Content" stuff got saved. Adobe's instructions about this (if I recall correctly) were that it did NOT have to be installed anywhere specific, but you then had to go into Encore (& Premiere) and through preferences point to this stuff, which I believe I did. But I don't see any button type files in these anyway.

    Stop using the drive immediately, un plug it.
    Buy a copy of ProSoft DataRescue 4 and use it to search for deleted files.

    for some reason it has to do with the iOS5 update that was released yesterday that I upgraded my 3gs phone on before buying a 4s today.  i've been frustrated with it but just figured it out or at least got mine to work. 
    i had spent a good bit of today deleting messages thinking that would do it.  i spoke to AT&T (clueless) where I got my new 4s phone today and did some research here on apple's website and was put on hold by an apple rep for an hour today.  from googling i found that your phone supposedly holds 75,000 messages but it must be less than that or have a different way of calculating it than you might think.  here's why.
    you have more messages than you think.  a lot of my conversations went back to 2008.  there was one person in particular that i had exchanged a good number of messages with but i wanted to keep those so after deleting messages all day and getting nowhere i decided to figure out how to export SMS messages that i wanted to save.  there is an app called SMS Export and that did the trick.  I ran it and was suprised to see that after all of my deleting today i still had 61,000 messages.  so i exported this one person I had exchanged 20,000 messages with and deleted her messages from my phone leaving me with 41,000.  i restarted my phone and when it booted back up the new texts starting flowing through, 17 in all missed today. 
    back in business!

    This is a Message bank or voice mail setting not a phone specific setting.
    But anyway. Go to tools->Settings->Phone->Call Divert->Voice Calls
    In here you can check the status of the Call divert. For example, Scroll down to "If Not Answered", then select Options->Check Status
    It should say "Active for: Voice Calls" if you hit details it should give a number (of your voicemail or network number) and a delay in seconds, in my case 15s
    This means that my phone is set up to Divert all calls if they are not answered within 15 seconds to my voice mail.
    To change the setting, just select Options_>activate then select To voicemail, and then select the time, Select a LONGER time than you currently have.
    All these settings are normally network settings and the operator can change them they are not residing in the phone.

  • Option to remove "Sent to Recycle Bin" message after delete

    I've found the "sent to recycle bin" message sticks smack in the middle of the screen during review which obstructs further pictures. I delete one picture and the message hangs on obstructing further review for the next 5-6 pictures (maybe more, depending on how quickly I'm going). It's very time consuming to wait for this message to disappear when I'm trying to filter through 700+ pictures from shooting sports. Would also be nice to be able to toggle this off/on or please have the ability in the preferences to relocate the message to one of the screen corners.

    iTunes will ask only if the tracks being deleted are in the *iTunes media folder location* shown in iTunes prefs Advanced and the *Keep iTunes music folder organized* is ticked.

    You seem to be running the latest Firefox 9.0.1 version according to the user agent in your system details list:

    Do a clean (re)install and delete the Firefox program folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\).

  • I just purchased my I MAC, and set up my aol and gmail to the desktop icon.  After deleting some messages tonight, I tried to shut down from the menu and received the message "Shutdown canceled because mail application is still open"--icon not working.

    I just purchased this IMac yesterday, and set up my two email accounts to the mail icon today.   This evening, after deleting some messages, I was not able to open the mail icon nor shutdown, restart, or log off the computer from the menu.  I keep receiving the message "shutdown canceled by mail application".  Really frustrating.

    Press Alt, Command and Esc keys to open Force Quit. Then, on the window that will show up, choose Mail and close it. Finally, you will be able to turn off your iMac

  • IPod Mail 1.1.3 - Return to inbox after delete message

    Hi.
    I'm wondering if there's a way to have the iPod return to the Inbox after deleteing a message, instead of what it currently does which is moving on to the next message. This has horribly detremental effects as if the next message happens to have been an un-read one, and I didn't realize it and just back out after deleting the message, the message isn't marked as unread anymore.
    If this isn't available in the current update, could this please be added for the next update?

    If you have a backup, you can restore the e-mails. Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Library/Mail/V2.

    I'm new on this forum and I'd like to receive some help and indication with regards to one issue related to email POP3 account.
    I'm using a BB Z10, and after setting all the email accounts I have seen that on the company email account, which is a POP 3, I can't keep the messages on device after deleting them on server (this is programmed to be once at 2 days).
    Exists the possibility to check an option which allows saving the received messages on the device? As it is happening on other devices from other brands?

    Sorry, no.
    The Z10 utlizes ActiveSync technology which basically (for lack of a better term) "mirrors" the messages available on your server. You delete them from the server, they are deleted from the device.
    You'd be best off on your server instead, to "file" or move those messages to another folder. This too might delete the messages on your device (since they no longer appear in the INbox, but at least they will not be completely deleted.
