After deleting user account / Unknown user is shown in information ...

After having some troubles with my account, I tried to get rid of it by deleting this account.
So I first edited a new one and after all I removed the old one.
Since this moment I have an UNKNOWN USER without having read/write-priviliges to my disk.
Unfortunately this user is not removable.
Does someone having this problem too?
Some hints about this matter?

Exactly what did you do to remove your old account? I hope you didn't just drag it to the Trash. If so then you don't have an account because dragging the old Home folder to the Trash is not how you remove an account.
You say you "edited" a new account. How did you do this?

  • Messages: One MacBook, One User Account, Two Users?? Help!

    Hi,
I just upgraded to Mountain Lion on my MBA from mid 2011 - so far so good!
In our home, my wife and I have one Mac that we both use. Since we use it most of the time to browse on the Internet, listen to music, looking at pictures e.g. we only have on user account, that we both share/use.
In "Messages" in Mountain Lion, it seems like it is only possible to merge one Apple ID with Messages....Which means, that every time my wife wants to use this feature, she has to sign me out and log in with her own Apple-ID.
Alternatively, to create her own user account, but all of this doesn't seem very dynamic and user friendly. I also doubt, that we are the only ones having this setup, on our Mac?!
The concept works just fine with an iPhone, as this device is normally only used by one person. But a MacBook or iMac, might be in many cases, THE computer in the household with multiple users, each with there Apple-ID.
My question is, what is the best way to share "Messages" between multiple users with different Apple-ID's, without having to create separate user accounts in Mountain Lion?
    Thanks and brgds.
    Per.

    Thanks for your fast reply!
I didn't know you could switch between users like that and will definitely give this a try, if it is not possible to do it in a different way...
It would be perfect, if it was possible to add my wife's Apple-ID to a new account, with in the settings menu in Messages on the Mac.
So, when either she or I would get an iMessage, we would be notified in the notification center in Mountain Lion, and still be using the same user account.
My hope is to be able to only have one user account on our Mac and both of us sharing all the cool new features in Mountain Lion, with each of our Apple-ID's.
But, if that is not possible, you solution seems like a great compromise
    Thanks again!

  • Protecting user accounts - Reducing user account sharing

    Dear friends,
Our Internal Audit Dept believes that some employees may be sharing SAP users (and password) to avoid the SoD in place. With password-based authentication, that we must use, there is no chance that the system can prevent it.
However, to reduce the share of users, and incidentally, protect unauthorized use of someone else's account, we are trying to do something similar to what many organizations do.
The idea is that our (ECC 6.0) system stores a statistic of the computers from which a user connects, and in the event of an "unusual" login it will send a message to the user email account. It will explaining how to react if the access is not recognized, but also will inform of the the legal consequences of the misuse of his/her user account.
We have the option of using the SAL, but prefer it to be online. Is there an user-exit, or similar, to capture the event of an user login and to send an email to the user's address, or perform other actions? The right moment seems to be the login event used by SAL...
Surely someone has already developed a similar solution in SAP. We would appreciate any information or idea.
    Thanks in advance,
    Best regards,
    dionisio

    Dear Alex,
I have the same experience about sharing their "only" password, and I believe, it will best address the sharing issue. Unfortunately that solution is out of our reach for now...
About the SUSR001, I am not really looking for extra validation. Do you believe then that it is the best place for recording the terminal ID and so on?
    Thanks for you help.

  • Lost user account in Users file

I just bought and installed the new MacBookPro and installed Parallels and Office 2007 etc.
Suddenly today I could not find my user account anymore. There still is sysadmin and Shared as accounts. However in the little house on the left I can still see my useraccountname and I have access to the files when I click on the house.
How can I restore the user account in the user folder under MacintoshProHD?
    Anybody any suggestions? Thanks

    You are welcome!
Now the question is of course what caused this little discomfort
This usually happens because spotlight messes something up, usually because of the presence of extended attributes. If the problem reoccurs enter
    *xattr -d com.apple.metadata:kMDItemFinderComment ~*
in terminal and then run the first command I gave you again.
    *chflags nohidden ~*

  • Lost Sent Emails after deleting old account

    Hello there.
What I had and did: I had a .com.ar account (from now on the .AR account) and just bought a .biz domain that I intend to start using from now on.
Both accounts are hosted by the same people and the .biz will receive the same emails that the .AR can receive. This is, if you send to any of the .AR or .BIZ, I will receive both in my MAC Mail.
In order for this to happen, I added the .BIZ account to Mac Mail. No problem.
Then, I made a mistake and deleted the .AR account settings. (I deleted the account with all its settings) When I found out after this, that I couldn´t find my old .AR Sent emails, I tried Re-creating the .AR account in my Mac Mail but ... the sent emails were not there.
Is there a way to recover those sent emails?
    Thanks for saving my life,
    Julio

I have added the account again, but only last 2 weeks emails pop back in.
It’s like a brand new account. No folder, no history.
It was a pop account and store emails for a long time.
    any advance solution?

  • After deleting old default calendar, user can't create events

    Hello
an User had two agendas. they asked to delete the old default agenda. and change the default to a new agenda. after this has been done, the user is not able to create new appointment in his agenda.
I changed the default agenda using csattributes. I sure forgot to set permissions somewhere.??
    thank you.

yes it does but it has a very special format which i do not understand.
i found this out by using csattribute -v list username:
    uid=grochtus,ou=rbgMember,ou=people,ou=mrbc-mbhg,dc=irisnet,dc=be has icsCalendarOwned: grochtus:geert_rochtus_dircoco$geert_rochtus_dircoco
    what does the $ mean?
the name of the calendar is :
    uid=grochtus,ou=rbgMember,ou=people,ou=mrbc-mbhg,dc=irisnet,dc=be has cn: Geert ROCHTUS
    uid=grochtus,ou=rbgMember,ou=people,ou=mrbc-mbhg,dc=irisnet,dc=be has icsCalendar: grochtus:geert_rochtus_dircoco
another thing that came up is that this user is able to DELETE events but not able to create.

  • Email account unknown user ?server error.

When I email my daughter's .mac account, I get a server reject user is unkonown message on my iPhone.  My Imac simply wont send to it.  When I check her icloud account it says she has all three account extensions active (.mac, .me, .icloud) and verified.
Im absolutely stuck.  I believe it is an issue on the server end.

Call your email provider or check the provider's web site for the correct settings. Ensure you are using the correct credentials for the email server you are trying to connect to.

  • Spotlight & Mail Search Not Working After Deleting email Account's '.OfflineCache' File.  How Do I Get Back to Normal?

    Running OSX 10.7.4 and Mail.5.2.
One of 3 email accounts was constantly trying, but unable to synch.  The rotating splines were turning non-stop but not synching (other two email accounts worked just fine.)  After doing some searching on the internet, I found several articles about this.  Many included the symptom of the "Recovered Messages" constantly being recovered/generated.  I had noticed that I would get some recovered messages on occaision, but had never noticed it to be problematic.  These articles suggested that the ".OfflineCache" file for that email account had been corrupted or the root of my problem.  So, I deleted the .OfflineCach file as per this article...
Fix OSX Mail Creating Multiple 'Recovered Message
Well that got my mail working again.  However, I soon noticed that spotlight no longer works and when I try to search mail, it doesn't work.  It will only return a complete email address/contact; it doesn't search the contents of the email.
I tried to get spotlight to re-index the hard drive.  However, when I try to drag a folder or volume to it, I get the error:
Since spotlight and mail search have always worked flawlessly for 5 years, I'm confident this is related to having deleted " .OffflineCache" for that particular email account.  However, it seems strange that mail search won't work for the other email accounts.
Any other tips for getting spotlight back online?
How about the .OfflineCache file.  Will Mail restore it, replace it on it's own?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Also, looking back, not long before this problem started, I was trying to send a single email with numerous pictures ( around 50 or so.)  I forgot to select "medium" for the picture size and it started trying to upload them at full size.  I realized this after a minute or two and cancelled the upload, changed to 'medium' and sent the email with no problem.  I point this out because the "Multiple Recovered Messages" error seems to be related to or being induced by having an excessively large file in the particular mail account's .Offline.Cache file.

Well, a couple days later and it seems that the .offlinecache has been rebuilt.  Finder, Spotlight, & Mail search all seem to be working normally now!

  • Restore after deleting iCloud account.

    Hello,
I bought an iPhone 5S second hand.
The owner deleted his iCloud account in front of me : Setting>iCloud> "delete account"
Back home, I restored the phone with the lastest firmware. It worked perfectly well.
    The phone rebooted.
But now it is asking me for the iCloud email/password that was previously deleted.
The owner has left the country. I only had his phone number (that is now disconnected).
What am I supposed to do  ?

Based on Apple Documentation, if the old owner did disable Find my iPhone, you wouldn't have to enter a password, as the Activation lock is a Find my iPhone functionnality and it works with it. Disabling it disables the activation lock too. But seeing your situation; this may help:

(You will need to find the previous owner for that)

  • Accessing an Unknown User account

Sorry if this is covered I could only find how to get rid on them and I need to access them not get rid of them.
I had a system crash with a blue screen. When it came back there was only a temp profile loading. In System Properties
under the tab Advanced button User Profiles
I have two Unknown Users listed with sizes listed. There is no folder for them under Users nor a listing in the system management in control panel. I cannot find these anywhere I could access them to pull files.
After some time I switched her  to a local profile because of size limitations on the server and letting the profile rebuilt from the server copy I found that a large chunk of profile went missing. I believe it is in one of these two "Account Unknown"
users that show in the accounts list where you set to local accounts.
Problem I have is I don't have a profile folder to pull from. Yet I see this large profile listed.
My question is there any way I can get into that profile to retrieve those missing files? I have been reading posts about this for days and they are all what are these profiles and how do I make them go away. Well I need into them.
    Hope you can help,
    thank you,
    Ric

I have tried a data recovery software. I have Data Rescue. It finds all sorts of deleted files. the problems are I have no idea if they are from the missing profile. reason being the profile was not deleted be someone it was dumped after a system crash and
was gone from the user folder after a reboot from a bluescreen. Now you can see them here and I really need to access them in the profile's structure as it was on the system IE the desktop and DOCUMENT folders and so on.
Now does someone know how to do that? I have a  screen shot but I have to wait to show it. well the profile the unknown is listed as 2.3GB.
Also if the fix need to run in other OS I can make it work I'm good a few different ones.
Thank you anyone that can help.

  • Second user account not shown on OS X boot

I have created a second user account on my mac. Why is this account is not shown on initial log-in screen?
My user account (admin) and Guest account are shown, second user account (standard) is not shown.
How can I allow the second account to be shown?
    Cheers,

Is there a way to remove the data from the old "student" account and then add it back in after creating a new "student" account?
    Might see if these help...
    Open the terminal and type:
    nireport / /users name uid | grep "5[0123456789][0123456789]"
This should report all users that are in the 500+ range for the user ID. User accounts generally start at 501, and work up, so look at the list returned, and pick the next available number to assign to the new user you are creating. You will use it in place of the uid 555 below.
(Above didn't work in 10.5.8, sorry)

The default user account picture is stored here.
    C:\programdata\Microsoft\User Account Pictures\user.bmp
It should just be a matter have copying the picture you want to that location and over writing what is there.
    or....
Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Control Panel\User Accounts\Apply the default user logon picture to all users
    You can also configure this by a registry setting;
     [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
      UseDefaultTile = 1
The picture that you configure, will not be loaded until the user account will actually be created on the pc. Meaning the first time a >new< user will log on to a pc, they will have no picture shown at all using their login screen (this is default
behavior). Same will occur if you enable the policy don't display last user name. However, once they log in the picture will be shown in the start menu, and if they lock their pc the image will also be shown

  • How Many User Accounts Are Possible?

I am doing Mac support for a pre-school where they have five Macs, two of which are older iMacs which will only take OS X Panter installs.
We have 37 teachers, about 24-32 of whom will be using them for mail and on a more limited basis, for other things.
They'd like to keep their mail private and I assume other things as well, so my question is: is there a limit to the number of user accounts possible on a Panther machine? I'm guessing we'd eventually like to set up no more than 16 per machine if it's possible to do so without negatively impacting the performance of these iMac 333 computers. They are just barely fast enough to do email, web and word processing etc., so I don't want to slow them down in any way.
. . . and naturally, I won't be setting up fast user switching!
    Any input would be appreciated.
    JoeL

Thanks to Aldo and Niel for your quick responses!
Just as an experiment, to see how much room a raw account takes up, I used the disk utility to monitor disk space used on the OS disk and looked at:
The space used on the drive with one account (the one I have extant).
After having created a 2nd (non admin) account (but not logged in to it yet).
After logging into that account and creating one textedit (one word) document.
After deleting that account immediately (leaving my one account).
After logging out and back in again to my original account.
    The results are as follows:
    Disk Space Used (in Bytes):
    168,212,189,184 one account
168,213,803,008 two accounts (not logged in)
168,213,823,488 two accounts (logged in/one doc)
168,211,394,560 one account (2nd acct deleted immediately)
168,211,451,904 one account (logged out & back in)
There does seem to be a variability of disk space usage even in the act of logging out and back in with no other activities, but the creation of an account seems to take up very little actual space (as I expected) and I assume, with some variability due to the creation of email accounts & etc, that there would be an acceptable difference between 16 teachers using the same account and creating email and documents and 16 teachers creating 16 accounts and creating email and documents.
These computers don't have the power to run fast user switching without a loss of usability, so I tested the time to switch accounts manually and it's less than booting up, so this is probably the best approach.
    Thanks again!
    JoeL
