After Disconnecting headphone adapter, Veer stays in headphone mode

The issue arrises when I disconnect the magnetic headphone adapter. From that point on, the phone still thinks that the headphones are still connected. If I try to make a call, I can not switch the audio control away from headphones, thus I can't hear the caller.
The only solution that I have found is to completely reboot the device.
Any solutions for this issue?

Oh geez, here we go again with "stuck in headset mode" problems with webOS hardware.  I am very sorry to hear that, mapenn.  You're the first user I know of with this problem since the days of the Sprint Palm Pre.  I thought that HP/Palm fixed that problem is later hardware releases.  Guess not.  On the Palm Pre phone it was actually a hardware problem with the headphones jack.  But on the Veer, you don't have a built-in headphones jack, it's on the magnetic adapter.  I wonder if the magnetic adapter is going bad?  I know this is improbable, but do you know anyone who also has a Veer?  I'd like to see if you can test another magnetic adapter on your phone.

  • Gigaworks S750 making constant hiss/hum after disconnecting the headphones

I was just watching a dvd movie and after a while as it was late I decided to plug in the headphones. I unplugged the headphones as I decided to decrease the bass instead but got disturbed of mixed low hiss+hum. I checked all software wise things like mixer levels, volume, presets and so on but couldn't find a problem. I plugged the headphones back and the sound was fine with them so I figured that it couldn't be a soundcard problem. To be sure of that I unplugged all cords on the back of the soundcard except one and it was the same (sound was only fine with headphones). When audio is on via speakers there are signs of the audio but it sounds like a radio from the 920's on low volume or something. In other words It's screwed. As I use an Audigy 4 Pro I have an external device. The headphone jack on that device also works fine. The hiss/hum is still there even after I shut down the computer or disconnect all audio cords from the soundcard.
I have used these speakers since Mars/April 2005 (bought them 3st Mars 2005). Warranty is 24 months over here so at least that should be ok if I will need to send them back.
    Other things I have tried:
    * Plugging the speakers into another output.
    * Shutting down everything (speaker, computer, unplugging cords etc)
I think the amp or something blew/broke inside the subwoofer but I would like to hear if anyone has had any similar experiences, if there is another reason and if there is anyway to fix it.

I'm having the same/similar problem. I only bought my s750 speakers 2 weeks ago and they worked perfectly, but all of a sudden I'm getting constant whining/high-pitched buzzing from the centre, subwoofer and both side speakers.
I've unplugged all of the cables except for the power lead and the speakers themselves and there is still this interference, so it is not a sound input problem. When I do feed sound into the system the four other speakers are fine, crystal clear, but the four I mentioned sound exactly as you described; like a radio from the 920's!
I'm going to try and contact Creative's customer support to see if they can help, as I've done all the obvious stuff: checking connections, unplugging and re-plugging all cables and switching which plug socket it's powered by, to no avail.

  • Belkin iPhone Headphone Adapter is making my iPhone lose ALL sound ability.

Before I get further into this, I wanted to say that I have since discovered how to make this issue not happen. I wanted to post it incase other people have experienced this problem as it's very strange and has already resulted in me having to get my first iPhone replaced cause I (and Apple) thought the phone was malfunctioning.
Issue: While using the Belkin iPhone Headphone Adapter attached to a car cassette adapter my phone sometimes has severe sound problems. When I arrive at my destination and need to unplug my iPhone, if music is still playing and I unplug the phone from the Belkin adapter, the resulting issue is that *I lose all sound on my phone*. It stops having an audible ring (though it will still vibrate), it does not alert me about new text messages, it also (and this is the most frustrating) makes it where if someone calls me I cannot hear them unless I put them on speaker phone.
Resolution: If for some reason this has happened to you, all you need to do is to make sure that you turn the music off while your Belkin adapter is still plugged into your phone. After the music has been paused, you can remove the adapter and it should work fine.

Thanks for posting the workaround, but it isn't just your Belkin adapter...it happens with all of the headphones as well -- if you lose your sound, put your headphones back in, and out - you might need to repeat a couple times.
This seems to have something to do with the sensors Apple builds into their iPods starting from 4th Generation onward (including the iPhone) which control your music starting and stopping when you pull your headphone jacks out -- apparently it also causes other sound problems as well.

  • What is the best quality headphone adapter out there?

I use a pair of ultimate ears 5 eb pros and I dont want it all to go to waste because i have to go through a low quality headphone adapter. i know the long belkin one sold at the apple store is the only popular one, but is there a high end model worth looking at?

Sorry, it's called Text+ (Plus) in the iTunes store in the Lifestyle section. I don't use any phone feature but it gives you a free phone number. This is simply so that other people texting you have a real number, not a pass through so they can text back without having to do anything special. All my friends, etc... we just add that number to our contacts as another text option. Works great for the iPad also that doesn't have a native text feature. Here is a link to their website. They have three version for the iPhone. Really nice, for .99 cents.

    Hello Stacey,
What all devices do you have connected?
It sounds like a Ground loop... voltage leaking somewhere.

That is exactly what I was trying to determine!
I don't think that this will work but try this first.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
Restoring the device may be what you will have to do, but two more things that you can try first are to restore from a backup if you have one....
How to backup and restore from a backup
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
    If that doesn't work ....
You can try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered.
If none of these things work , you should probably restore the iOS software, but backup your iPad first per the instructions and restore from the backup at the end of the process.

  • Adapter light stays on even after removing from MacBook Pro

    Hi,
I have a MacBook Pro. I noticed something odd last night. When I remove the adapter from the MacBook Pro (you know, the magnetic end that attaches to the MacBook Pro), the light on the adapter still stays green/on. I actually have to unplug the adapter from the wall outlet to make the light turn off. This never happened before.
Has anyone seen this before? Any advice?
    Thanks.

I think that the light is controlled by the middle pin in the connector. Check it very carefully with a magnifying glass to see if any of the pins are bent or if there is any metalic dust in there.

  • Macbook Pro dark screen after disconnecting from Cinema Display

    Dear all,
    the issue I am having:
    - after disconnecting from Cinema display (having first put my Macbook Pro in "sleep" mode) I just ca't make the Macbook pro scren show anything....black display
    - but is it really asleep? NO!!! It just STILL believes it's connected to the Cinema Display
That's what I though was happening, so I thought: "if I now plug in the thunderbolt-to-VGA dongle that I use for the videoprojector then the screen might come back... and.... Voilá! It comes back, BUT starts flickering until in the end it just dissappears....
I can reproduce the error all the time. Worse than that: a reboot does not help at all.
Looks like there is an internal hardware switch that must be left "engaged" and then the Mac just believes it is connected to an External screen and sends the signal though the thuderbolt port instead of through the screen!!!
    WEIRD error/bug or whatever!!
I have no idea how to make this reach the Apple guys.... I tried to report a Bug but they asked me to join in as Apple developer which I just can't do (for working issues).
Can anyone tell me if they have had this problem, and whether Apple is taking care of it?
(this reminds me of an issue with an internal switch with the headphones in my old MacBook Pro.... after disconnecting the headphones, the internal switch was not being disengaged, so sound would NEVER come out as it was being sent to the headphones instead of to the speakers... Same problem here but with the Image??? :-((( )

Sometimes I experience the same after disconnecting my 24" display (in seldom cases, the mouse cursor is not painted correctly, as well).
Can you check - when it happens - if in System Profiler > Hardware > Graphic > Quartz Extreme is listed as 'supported'. I found it to be 'not supported' when the scrolling and display behaves strangly. Also the Menu Bar is not transparent any more.
Next to rebooting, logout and login again fixed the issue for me. But I am also looking for a better fix/explanation.

  • No internet access after disconnecting from VPN

    Summary:
windows fails to restore normal network after disconnecting from a VPN network, the PPP adapter which represent VPN connection stays in the interface list even after disconnection. system has no network access to anywhere.
    Synopsis:
    a. Win 7 Pro x64 Client computer in a home network without any corporate firewall software connects successfully to VPN using windows VPN connection. (Rasdial)
    b. after disconnecting from VPN, client lost internet and local connections.
    c. ipconfig -all shows PPP adapter (VPN) still exits as an network interface in nonoperational state.
    d. pinging any ip address except localhost results in "no resources" error.
    e. trying to dial VPN again results in "element not found" error.
    Solutions I tried so far:
    ipconfig -release and ipconfig -renew.
    Disable / Enable Wireless Adapter.
    rasdial "vpn connection" /d
currently the only solution is restarting the PC after each VPN usage which is very frustrating.

Hi Ivan and thanks for your reply,
I tried "netsh winsock reset", unfortunately it didn't fix the problem.
The status Icon is normal, no indication of limited or no connectivity, I can ping and open the router webpage at 192.168.1.1.
here is the result of ip config command, hope it helps, if you want I can provide netstat result or any other net diag command you want.
as you can see the PPP adapter still in the list which it shouldn't be.

  • Iphone won't stay in Airplane mode after connecting to some accessories

I've observed that the iphone doesn't stay in airplane mode after I connect it to a Kenwood KCA-iP500 adapter for Kenwood head units. Here's the story.
After I connect the iphone to the iP500, the iphone pops up with a message that says the attached accessory is not compatible with the iphone. It further asks me if I want turn on airplane mode. I choose to activate airplane mode, and I assume it turns on airplane mode. After my drive I disconnect the iphone from the ip500, and I observe that the iphone comes out of airplane mode automatically.
The use of airplane mode is crucial for me because I work in a Mexican border town and I want to avoid data roaming charges. I manually put the phone in airplane mode, put it into standby mode and went about my business. Some time later I went back to the home screen and noticed that the phone was trying to register to a phone network. I kept trying to keep it in airplane mode but it kept coming out by itself.
I'm guessing that the feature that temporarily activates airplane mode and then automatically deactivates it when the accessory is disconnected keeps it out of airplane mode.
The good news is turning the phone off and then back on fixes the problem.

  • Mini DVI to Video: blue screen after disconnect

    Hi,
can't find a solution: after disconnecting the mini dvi to video-adapter I always get a blue screen and I need to restart my brandnew 20" iMac.
I use it to connect my (old) television via s-video. It is clear that I bought the right Mini-DVI-Adapter.
Can anyone help or has the same problem?
    iMac 20"   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Thanks for the help. I'd figured out that shutting it off would keep it from happening and was probably a "best practice," but since 90% of my television watching is from my eyeTV, I'd be turning it on and off a lot.
The only problem with leaving the setup plugged in, is that as soon as the mini DVI cable is plugged in, the resolution on the iMac resets itself to super-large fit for television mode and becomes virtually unusable as a computer, thus when I want to use my computer, the cable has to be unplugged....unless of course you know something I don't
    Thanks,
    Shaun

  • HDMI does not come back after disconnect

    Hello Archers,
this one is bugging me for a while now, perhaps someone has an idea.
I have a headless ARCH home server that mainly has the following purposes:
    1. being a 24/7 file/backup/ssh server for family and friends
    2. being an MPD server connected to my music system
The setup may seem a bit exotic. The computer is connected to the music system via HDMI over an S/PDIF audio extractor to the music system. This is because the machine replaced a RaspberryPi that really had crappy analog audio output and my music system has an optical input and can perform the digital to analog conversion itself. I have not installed Pulse just alsa and jack2-dbus.
    aplay -l shows the following:
    **** Liste der Hardware-Geräte (PLAYBACK) ****
Karte 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], Gerät 0: ALC887-VD Analog [ALC887-VD Analog]
    Sub-Geräte: 1/1
    Sub-Gerät #0: subdevice #0
Karte 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], Gerät 3: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0]
    Sub-Geräte: 0/1
    Sub-Gerät #0: subdevice #0
    The Problem:
Whenever I switch off the music system and later switch it back on, the HDMI-connection is lost and does not get reestablished. I tried various things but essentially only a reboot of the machine helps (which opposes purpose 1 of the machine). On the RaspberryPi I did not have that problem, probably due to the hdmi_force_hotplug=1 in /boot/config.txt.
    My Observations so far:
The first problem that made the sound disappear was the screen blanker on the console after 10 minutes. This can be prevented with
setterm --term linux --blank 0 >/dev/tty1 # You need write permission on /dev/tty1 for this to work!
There are no appearant error or warning messages when using e.g. aplay or speaker-test, just no sound at all
There are tipps in the forums/the internet sugesting to disable power management on the display involving xset and xrandr. However, I have no X running and the tools complain that they cannot find/open the display
In /proc/asound/PCH/codec#2 I find the HDMI codec to show the following as long as it is connected after a reboot:
    Codec: Intel Valleyview2 HDMI

I figured that the problem is probably related to powermanagement, so I experimented with powertop. This resulted in a reduced consumption of 1W when idle, which is nice but did not solve the original problem...
    The Questions
Is there a way to completely reinit the HDMI subsystem just like on a reboot?
Is there an option comparable to hdmi_force_hotplug=1 on the pi that forces the HDMI signal to stay up?
    Thank You for Your time!
    Best regards,
    Lars

I can confirm what zofiel said. I have tested it by connecting a TV and HDMI reactivitated by switching from X to console. However, this option only works one time and requires X running in the first place, which I usually have not on a headless server, but it made me think: Obviousely the X server needs to activate the graphics in the first place. Then I came up with an idea for a really messy work around. I could try to remotely start X. Normally, this is not possible and you get:
    % startx
/usr/lib/xorg-server/Xorg.wrap: Only console users are allowed to run the X server
    xinit: giving up
xinit: unable to connect to X server: Connection refused
    xinit: server error
You can force it to work:
    sudo startx
You get lots of error messages, but HDMI audio is back, even if one kills the X process afterwards with Ctrl+C (Audio stops, but resumes two seconds later). The downside is that starting X with sudo messes up permissions with the x related files in your home directory and you will have problems to use startx afterwards, so it is probably better to use su instead of sudo. If root does not have a properly configured .xinitrc file then one can also just execute the desktop environment directly e.g., for XFCE:
    su - root -c "startxfce4"
Then kill it with Ctrl+C and you should have HDMI Audio working.
So now I could pack this in a script followed by some command to kill it, but, well, it is an ugly workaround
Is there really no better way?

After updating to 10.10.3, now my Macbook Pro 15" (mid-2014) will not stay logged in. I log in after restarting, and it will stay logged in for 3-5 seconds then immediately log off and go back to the login screen. Any help?
By the way, I also updated my Macbook Pro 17" (mid-2009) and it seems to be running fine, though I haven't tried to restart it and log in. I'm afraid I won't be able to get this one to work either if I do.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Can I leave my charging cable plugged in after disconnecting my iPhone ?

Can I leave my charging cable plugged in after disconnecting my iPhone ?

Yes. You can leave the cable plugged into the iPhone, or you can leave the adapter plugged into the outlet. Both are fine. A study a couple you years ago found that the iPhone power adapters do not draw "vampire power" when left in the outlet.
