After disk recovery, Compressor will not launch

I just replaced a problem hard drive, cloned all my apps and diles to a new drive and installed 10.4.6 for good measure. I had to re-install all of the Pro-app updates again and all the apps seem OK -- except Compressor. This is what I get in my crash log:
Library not loaded: /Library/Frameworks/AECore.framework/Versions/A/AECore
Referenced from: /Applications/Compressor.app/Contents/MacOS/Compressor
Reason: image not found
Does this mean that I need to re-install the app? Very odd.

Never mind.
Found the answer on an older thread; used Pacifist to pull the Compressor Package off the install disc and just re-installed everything. Ran the 2.01 updater, all is good...

After loading Maverick iTunes will not launch.  I get an error code: -45054.  I am the administrator and have no groups or guests.  Sharing options don't fix this.  Also Fetch will not launch, I get error code: SSL error 9807.  These worked perfectly before installing Maverick.  Also everything that loads, all programs, take twice as long to load.  I have MacKeeper and have cleaned and discarded all the garbage.

Remove "MacKeeper" as follows. First, back up all data.
"MacKeeper" is a scam with only one useful feature: it deletes itself.
Note: These instructions apply to the version of the product that I downloaded and tested in early 2012. I can't be sure that they apply to other versions.
If you have incompletely removed MacKeeper—for example, by dragging the application to the Trash and emptying—then you'll have to reinstall it and start over.
IMPORTANT: "MacKeeper" has what the developer calls an “encryption” feature. In my tests, I didn't try to verify what this feature really does. If you used it to “encrypt” any of your files, “decrypt” them before you uninstall, or (preferably) restore the files from backups made before they were “encrypted.” As the developer is not trustworthy, you should assume that the "decrypted" files are corrupt unless proven otherwise.
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Applications
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-A. The "MacKeeper" application is in the folder that opens. Quit it if it's running, then drag it to the Trash. You'll be prompted for your login password. Click the Uninstall MacKeeper button in the dialog that appears. All the functional components of the software will be deleted. Reboot.
☞ Quit MacKeeper before dragging it to the Trash.
☞ Don't empty the Trash. Let MacKeeper delete itself.
☞ Don't try to drag the MacKeeper Dock icon to the Trash.

  • Compressor will not launch

I have FCP 5.1.4 installed, along with Compressor 2.1 (as part of FCP Studio 1). I've been searching in this forum and elsewhere on the web, and it appears that many people are having a similar problem: the Compressor application will simply not launch. It hangs on the dock for a moment, then disappears. Nothing else happens.
I have tried the steps that are proposed by Apple in that often cited support document (removing all files, reinstalling Compressor, upgrading from Software Update, then rebooting) a total of three times, and the problem still exists. I even removed every last piece of FCP Studio 1 (every related file) and then attempted a full reinstall of the FCPS 1, with no luck. Compressor is dead.
I see one other solution proposed, and it's a head-scratcher. I'm supposed to wipe my hard drive clean, and then reinstall my entire system? That sounds precisely like the nightmare I expect from Windows, and is the reason I left PCs for Macs in the first place. Risking my entire system to get a single application to work. Absolutely staggering...makes me almost wish I was back on Adobe Premiere Pro again. It wasn't great, but it did actually work.
If anyone has any other suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it. I'm on a deadline to finish a short, and the director finds it really strange that I cannot output DVDs of the cuts for him.
    Many thanks,
    David

I gather you've already done a full uninstall/clean reinstall of FCP (and all related Studio applications) but if you haven't that's the place to start. You'll need to find every last vestige of all the applications, which can be tricky, so be sure to use Spotlight, and search for the Apple support doc that outlines the way to find the files that are REALLY hidden, and be sure to delete everything, without exception. (Even one little bit left behind will cause a problem with the new install.)
If you've already done this, and are sure the reinstall was clean, then I'd advise you try it one more time, just to be sure.
One other possibility: did you install Leopard recently? I stayed with Tiger just to be safe, and it's possible your problem is compounded by the new operating system.
Sorry I can't be of more help than this.

  • Compressor will not launch at all and is greyed out in FCP

Running FCP 5.1 on Mac Pro 10.4.7 and compressor export is greyed out in the list. The program will not even start up on it's own. I've deleted and reistalled twice and still does not work. This all started after and archive and reinstall earlier in the week. Everything worked perfectly back then. Any ideas on how to fix this. I have a deadline to meet and I'm mpeg2less and gotta make some DVD's. Very important stuff I need to deliver.

Unfortunately, Archive and Install moved some important stuff that is installed initially when you did the install of FC Studio.
Some of these "bits and pieces" are now in > /Previous Systems/Previous System 1
Here is Apple's listing of what basic OX stuff got moved and where.
(FC Studio of course is not mentioned, just the basic OS X stuff)
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120
Unless you know exactly what to put back into place, and enable root to move things back into your "System" folders, don't even atempt to do so.
You could follow this Apple doc to reinstall Compressor,
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93234
Or reinstall FC Studio in it's entirety, and run Software Update to get back to where you were before.
This should be as a last resort, as other specific receipts and preferences must first be removed,
    as in reinstalling FCP here:

  • After HUGE document, Pages will not launch

I've been helping someone build up a big "photo-book" in Pages. We've scanned 700+ hi-resolution (300 dpi) images and filled a Pages document to the tune of 106 pages. The document itself is now 3.17 GB. Ouch! (This is all happening on an iMac with 4GB of RAM, running Mountain Lion, 10.8.2 or .3? and Pages 4.3.)
Pages won't launch now. Beachballs = Unexpected Quit.
I could tell that Pages was trying to auto-open the Photo Book document upon launch. So I went to the 'General' area of the System Preferences and checked the box, 'Close Windows when quitting an application'. The I did a restart and here I un-checked the "Reopen windows when logging back in” option. Then I restarted.
Pages will still not launch. Beachballs for a few minutes, then Unexpectedly Quits. Can't break this cycle.
Any ideas how I can get Pages to run again?? Photo Book document, or not?
PS: I realize this 3+ GB Pages document is enormous, especially w/4gb RAM (only). I tried to use the "Reduce File Size" option, but that was a separate fiasco. But, outside of the Photo Book, I simply have other Pages work that I need to do on this machine. Any suggestions are appreciated!!
    ~Kevin

Thanks for the suggestions. This job has been on the back burner for a while. My "colleague" and I are both freelancers and have buried with our own, separate projects as of late.
I'm hoping to try some of these fixes soon and will report back when I know more. I don't like to simply let these posts dangle off into nothingness...

  • After downloading ff4, ff will not launch. I am connected to the internet but cannot access any pages.

I recently downloaded firefox 4 on to my linux based notepad. This is an acer aspire one. Since Firefox 4 installed I have been unable to access any internet pages, through luanching firefox browser or the search bar on my desktop. I am connected to the internet through my home wireless connection, so don't understand why not able to view pages.

I have the same problem but can go on to some websites but not others. I have tried what was suggested about clearing recent history and also the proxy server but it hasn't resolved the problem.

  • Itunes will not launch after latest update 2/2014

Yes, first, I would run Disc Utility; Verify Disc, Verify Disc Permissions, & Repair Disc Permissions.
Then I would go here > http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ for the .dmg file download.
Then I would reinstall iTunes. So, unless you do not have enough free space on your hard drive, that should work.
Otherwise, it may be time for some spring cleaning...

  • Aperture (2.1.2) will not launch after 10.5.6 installed

Quite possibly this problem happened because of something else I did. However I just now noticed today that Aperture will not launch after I installed 10.5.6 last week. This is the first time I tried Aperture since I updated.
Help! This is VERY important to me as I do all of my photo ediing these days with Aperture. I have a couple of thosand photos waiting .
Is it possible to download a new copy of Aperture? Yes, I am a registered owner and first paid the full $300 for this app.
Any and all help most appreciated.

try going through the application maintenance steps. You mentioned that you ran repair permissions prior to installation, this needs to be run AFTER any application install. As it could be any number of things causing the issue I have listed in sequence some steps to take for trouble shooting/maintenance.
    1. Repair permissions on system drive and drive with application on it.
    2. Verify and repair the disk with the library on it. If on your system disk run verify to see if it needs repair.
    3. Remove the application preferences found here:
    system disk/users/users/library/preferences/com.apple.Aperture.plist
    •test application
    4. CMD+OPT when clicking on the Aperture icon to launch it and choose consistency check
    •test application
    5. CMD+OPT and choose rebuild library
    •test application
    6. Remove any installed plug-ins from following directories
    system disk/users/users/library/application support/aperture/plugins/
    system disk/library/application support/aperture/plugins/
    •test application
    7. Hold the Option key down and launch Aperture and see if you get the option to create new library or choose library, try both of these steps.

  • Firefox will not launch, but shows in task manager, after updating graphics drivers to AMD's 13.1.

    Hi,
After updating to the AMD 13.1 drivers, on my 5770, Firefox will not launch; it does, however, show in the task manager. I should note that it will start in Windows safe mode; when I had it open in safe mode, I used that time to disable all plugins, add-ons, extensions, and created a new profile. This did not help. I also tried launching Firefox in to its safe mode, and had no luck with this either.
I experienced this problem once before, when trying to update to a previous version. I believe I was moving from 12.1 to 12.4, but I'm not 100% sure of that. Ultimately, my solution then was to retrograde back to my previous driver. The steps mentioned in the previous paragraph did not help at that time, not did a complete reinstall.
15 years of computer repair experience, and this has me baffled.
Thank you to anyone who might be able to help.

By any chance, did you disable Firefox's use of hardware graphics acceleration? To avoid a round-trip through Windows Safe Mode, you could try adding these to your prefs.js file while Firefox is closed.
To quickly open the folder with the correct prefs.js file, you can use
Help > Troubleshooting Information > "Show Folder" button
Because Firefox may overwrite change to this file at shutdown, you should edit it after closing Firefox and allowing a few moments for Firefox to finish updates to the files.
These are the preferences I think are most relevant:
    user_pref("gfx.content.azure.enabled", false);
    user_pref("gfx.direct2d.disabled", true);
    Does that make any difference?

My Itunes will not launch after downloading and I have tried all the troubleshooting for itunes for Windows 7 64-bit. Do I need to system reboot my computer than try to download it again?

I'm having a very similar issue, paired with iTunes not being able to get online.
iTunes shows up in processes and then hangs at 17,000 K or so -- sometimes it will start up, but that (if it occurs) is a delay of literal hours.
Pretty meticulously went through all the 'cannot connect' trouble shooting, and have uninstalled, restarted, and then reinstalled every piece of apple software; issue is just as firm. Starting in safe mode or admin mode don't fix it; signing in as a different user doesn't fix it.
