I updated to the new 5 software and now I can't sync my iPad2 to iTunes. I get a error message of "pairing record is missing". I tried restarting the iPad but nothing changed. Can anyone help me solve this?

For your addressbook, export the files to vCard on the PowerMac, then bring them over to your Mac Pro. For your iPhoto, copy the Users -> yourname -> Pictures folder to your Desktop on the Mac Pro, and open iPhoto on the Mac Pro holding the command and option keys. Select the library file from that Pictures folder and open it. It should import all the pictures into iPhoto as part of the rebuild process. You might consider itunes match for moving CDs you've copied into your itunes library if you dont have a way to use home sharing.
iTunes match is an optional service offered by apple that costs about $25 a year. It scans your music library and if it finds music that is already in apple's itunes catalog it'll automatically "unlock"/"store" these in the cloud for you. If you didn't already do so, authorize your computer for the new ID by opening iTunes and going to Store>Authorize This Computer. Then sync your phone with iTunes.

Aftee downloading the new ios8 software there is still a "1" notification on my settings. Can anyone tell me how to get rid of it? there is nothing that calls for attention once I get into the settings app. So I'm not sure what to do.

I see you have updated your iPhone to iOS 8 and still show an update notification in settings. Check to see if you have an update to your carrier settings as this could be the issue.

However, if the issue persists try forcing all applications to close in multitasking and restart the device. Once this is done test to see if the behavior persists.

Try a reset ...

Tap and hold on the word you want to search for, and tap on Define. Then tap on Manage, and tap on the cloud button to use as many dictionaries as you have available.

You're welcome. Have you tried the new request desktop site feature in Safari ? If you hadn't type iCloud.com in the URL field, tap go. When the icloud page is on the screen tap the URL field, pull Favorites down, tap request desktop site. Now you're able to do things on your iPad which you used to have a computer to be able to do.
