After downloading 8.0, Firefox refuses to open. Had to contact you with IE!!
Have an HP laptop running W7 Home 64-bit. The obnoxious update box from Firefox bugged me so much, I finally accepted. Now Firefox refuses to open.
'''No''', Firefox doesn't disable your anti-virus software. Firefox does disable the silly little add-ons that AVG ''(and other AV applications)'' install as Firefox add-ons, because those add-ons are out of date for the new version of Firefox.
These AV vendors need to work on getting their Firefox add-ons to automatically update when Firefox is updated, just like the 10's of thousands of add-0ns hosted by Mozilla automatically update as part of the Firefox update procedure.
See AVG support for details about what you need to do. Might be that a Live Update to get the update or maybe a patch needs to be installed.

I run Windows 7. I downloaded Firefox 6.0 for Windows which resulted in the following which I cannot fix:
"I had Firefix, however I downloaded the newest Firefox along with all plugins. Now when I click in the desktop icon firefox refuses to open my default webpage. Why?....How do I fix this"
I can go to internet explorer or AOL and it opens right up to my homepage but not when I click on Firefox. That problem can be caused by the Yahoo! Toolbar that extents too much downwards and covers the top part of the browser window and thus makes links in that part of the screen not clickable.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

After Updating Firefox Refuses to open yet the CPU says that it is?
Firefox will not Open at all, yet in the system tray it say that it is open. This has happened after I upgraded..
This can be a problem with the file [http://kb.mozillazine.org/sessionstore.js sessionstore.js] in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Profile Folder]
Delete the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak and any existing files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js .
See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Session_Restore -
After downloading an upgrade to firefox 4 the computer shut down and restarted, but firefox wouldn't open, saying I needed to shut down and re-start the computer first. Which I did again. Same result. So I tried to repair the file but it told me to reboot. Which I did again. Then I tried to uninstall it, but it wouldn't saying I needed to reboot. Which I did again. Then I tried to download firefox 3 but it wouldn't saying I needed to reboot. Which I did again. Now I've lost my browser! How do I get firefox working please?
It seems strange to reply to my own problem, but I'm doing it in the hope it might help someone who's in a fix, as I was. First, let me say that the problem of Firefox 4 being jammed may not have been the fault of firefox; it might have been this cranky vista operating system... but if you're introducing a browser for use on a cranky system, you need to tailor it to that system.... After I posted this problem, I tried a system restore to just before the firefox 4 download, which re-introduced firefox 3.6 on my programs, but it was still jammed and blocked. .... Then a friend recommended a free download: Revo Uninstaller, which will force uninstalling if necessary; and after an initial protest, Revo got to work and removed all the firefox files.... Then I re-downloaded firefox 3.6... and amazingly: it works! Even my tabs and bookmarks have been preserved, although I don't know how!.... For the future: if mozilla can't overcome this problem before they force firefox 4 on their users, then if it jams again, I have been advised to go to Google Chrome- which I don't want to do.... So, do, please, Firefox, give us a fully workable and user friendly system before you force us to go over to it [Firefox 4, that is]. Thank you so much, in anticipation.

After downloading itunes 10.6.1 dosent open on my PC windows XP
After downloading Itunes 10.6.1 in my windows XP dosent open when i click agreen on the first page, that is the far i can go.... Thanks
Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time? -

I use Ubuntu and just downloaded the newest Firefox browser. Then, I hit Extract, and it shows me a Firefox folder but nothing inside the folder can be clicked to to open the program.
Also check that you meet the requirements for current Firefox versions.

After downloading Adobe Reader on our MacBook, my daughter can no longer open her homework assignments at her school website. When you click on the assignment it does not open. Everything else works on the computer. I deleted Adobe Reader and it still will not work. Did Adobe Reader delete something or replace something that I need to download again? Thanks, Carl
Try this -
In the Finder's Go menu select Go to Folder.
Type in /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ and click Go.
In the resulting Finder window look for anything with PDF or pdf in the name and drag it to the trash.
Restart the computer.
Now try viewing the documents. -
After downloading and installing Firefox 8, I am unable to use it.
I am using a dialup connection and Windows XP. A dialog box appears when I try to use Firefox that says I must restart the computer to complete a previous upgrade of Firefox. I have rebooted at least 6 times, but nothing has changed.
If there are problems with updating then best is to download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version and delete the Firefox program folder to remove any leftover files.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
* Firefox 8.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
Uninstall your current Firefox version if possible.
*Do not remove personal data when you uninstall the current version or you lose your bookmarks and other data in the profile folder.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

Error message of "404 page not found" after downloading the latest version of Firefox.
This sometimes is the result of firewall software protecting you from changed applications. Or it might be something else. Can you review this article and see whether it helps: [[Firefox can't load websites but other browsers can]].

The last OS update for SL was OS 10.6.8. If that's the case you posted in the wrong forums. You should be posting in the SL forums.
If you are using Mail for your Gmail account, did you check the sound settings in Mail Preferences? Please detail what you have done so far in the way of troubleshooting? Need this info to avoid the "been there done that" scenarios. -

Basically what I said before. After downloading it, I installed it. Then I went to try to get it to load. It didn't load up at all, and the task manager just shows it as a process, and it doesn't come up as an application. So what's the problem?
There are a number of complaints with FaceTime not working over the last several days. Many people have called Apple and reported it here on the forums. Seems Apple is working on it. You will need to be patient and wait for a fix.

I want to use a new theme but after several tries nothing has changed.
What could be wrong.....Did you restart Firefox after selecting the new theme?
You do mean a theme and not a persona to customize the toolbar area?
