I have downloaded and installed Adobe Flash Player, but it was installed to a "disk image". I don't know what that is, but I cannot view anything that requires flash player. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks for your help, but that didn't do any good either. I have been double clicking from the download files, double clicking on the "install adobe flash player", closing the anti virus, closing Safari, watching the install progress and clicking finish. It indicates that "flash player" is installed, but every time I try to view something requiring flash player, it tells me I must download it. It shows up in the "system preference" and from there I can make some changes, but it still won't let me view anything requiring "flash player". It does not show up in my apps like Adobe Reader does. It shows up in the "downloaded files" section of "Finder". I'm getting really perplexed over my inability to get this right.

#'''Update or Install Shockwave Flash'''
#*Use Firefox to Download and SAVE to your hard drive from the link in article below; the link takes you directly to the download and you avoid the "getplus" download manager and "extras" (i.e., toolbars, virus scan links, etc.) on the main Adobe page.
#*SAVE to your Desktop so you can find it
#*After download completes, close Firefox
#*Click on the file you just downloaded and install
#**Note: Vista and Win7 users may need to right-click the installer downloaded and choose "Run as Administrator"
#**Note: Most browsers other than IE will also get updated with this one download
#**Note: To update IE, same procedure '''<u>but use IE</u>''' to go: http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player_ax.exe

You need to update your plugins. It is important to keep them updated due to continuing security fixes and improvements in those plug-ins:
* Adobe Shockwave for Director Netscape plug-in, version 11.5
* Adobe PDF Plug-In For Firefox and Netscape
* Java Plug-in 1.6.0_01 for Netscape Navigator (DLL Helper)
** You may want to remove the old Java version before installing the new version; see link below
** Firefox 3.6.x requires Java 1.6.0_10 or higher

I cannot download the new adobe flash player on my mac OSX 10.5
I have always been able to watch videos on line. Now on msnbc it says I have to download the new Adobe Flash player in order to watch the videos. When I try to download it won't do it.
Call Apple and file a formal complaint, it's Apple that is not supplying security or patches to 10.5 users and expects everyone to be computer guru's.
16.5% of Mac users are on 10.5 and Apple just denies security and stability updates to force you to upgrade your OS or your hardware prematurely.
There is a massive botnet of over 600,000 Mac's and the prime location is on 10.5 Intel Mac's which they refuse to fix.
Appe's "solution" is for you to upgrade your operating system to 10.6 or even 10.7 (this will make your machine slow and won't run a lot of your software, another "problem")
http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
IMO 10.6 would be best for you, the least trouble, but you bought a Mac for it to "just work" as your not "into" computers, your just a regular user like most Apple's customers.
So call Apple and complain, then buy the 10.6.3 retail disk and stick it into your machine and upgrade and cross your fingers and update to 10.6.8.
Backup your persona data off the machine first to a storage drive and disconnect.
Most commonly used backup methods explained
Once your on 10.6.3 use software update to get to 10.6.8, then you can install Flash.

# Question
I want to download and install adobe flash player. When I do so one of 2 things occur. A dialog box appears but it has no run option but a save file or cancel option. The other is if the proper dialog box appears, I agree and the a different box appears and there is foxfire with a red circle with a diagonal line across is appears.I find the easiest way to install Adobe Flash is to use the manual installers. You just need to download the installer to your computer, then run it to install Flash. For more details see http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/191/tn_19166.html#main_ManualInstaller
That link states you should uninstall earlier versions, as you don't have the version of Flash used by Firefox you can skip that step. -
After uninstalling and downloading the latest Abobe Flash player, I can no lnger play youtube videos. I get the message "blocked plug-in". It works in Firefox, but not Safari?
Frostbitblue,
in Safari’s Preferences, select its Security tab, and make sure that its “Internet plug-ins: Allow Plug-ins” checkbox is checked. -
I jsut upgraded to 10.9 and it is up to date and also my safari is up to date (no updates available for it). My safari is saying that my flash is out of date. when I follow the links it lets me download but when I double click to install it tell me "“Install Adobe Flash Player.app” can’t be opened because it was not downloaded from the Mac App Store.". When I install the flash UNinstaller and try to install that, it tells me the same. I ALSO found the exact same problem when I tried to install the acrobat installer (some tried to download a pdf and the page told me that my acrobat reader 'might' be out of date). Any thought?
You're running up against the GateKeeper.
Download the offline installer: Flash Player 12.0.0.44 (Mac OS X) by right clicking and choosing "Download Linked File As".
Mount the DMG and when it opens, right click the installer and choose "Open".
You'll see a warning. Click "Open" again.
It will run from there. -

When I want to play a video, it asks me to download the latest Adobe Flash player, and the iPad won't do that.
The iPad doesn't and never will support the Flash program. You will need to download and install a different browser like the aforementioned Skyfire. Photon and Puffin are also mentioned as browsers that support Flash. Or see if the place you're accessing that video from has an app.
