After downloading iTunes all my music files are in pieces

Hello,
is there anyone you knows how to solve this issue. I downloaded the current basic iTunes and gave Apple the permission to view my music files. The result is that almost every music file is now incomplete, for instance there will tracks from 1 to 20 but strangly track 3 , 6 and 13 will be missing. Instead I have to search around and finally find a file called 'unknown artists' in which I would find the specific album again but only containing the tracks 3, 6 and 13. That is highly unconvenient and I don't understand why.
All the albums I'm talking about are CD's I bought in shop and just copied on my laptaop (toshiba using vista windos media player)and where fine before iTunes came along.
Any clue would be appreciated.

  • 7.6 can only find files in the itunes folder - My Music files are all lost

Since upgrading to itunes 7.6 all my old files that were located in My Music are no longer found by itunes. However all files in My Music/itunes are found.
I have not changed the file names, what has happened?
As I have loads of files in the old My Music folder it is a problem to redirect every file individually.
I do have a backup of the computer but what do I restore as all the music files are where they have always been?

Again many thanks. I have tried to tidy up the folders as per your idiot guide- which term is appropriate for me
Under iTunes Media though I do not have  folders for Books,iPod Games, Mobile Applications, Movies, TV Shows so I only have  Auto Add to iTunes, Music, Downloads and Podcasts - My question here is is this OK.
Next - Library files that you mention are there but do not end .itdb
Next  - in the main iTunes folder followingon from Artwork and Media folders  there is some other  iTunes database stuff like Library Extras, Library Genius, Library and Music Library(xml) all dated 10/02/12 plus MimiPlayer .dll dated 21/02/14 and Set Up Short Cut dated22/03/14
AND there is also a Programme Files folder with a sub folder holding file folders called CD Configuration,iTunes Resources, iTunes Help Resources, iTunes Mini Player Resources and Mozilla Plugins all dated 24/03/14 ( when I downloaded the new iTunes) and then a lot of application extension stuff from 2011
To recap I unistalled the old 32 bit iTunes and installed the new 11.1.5 (64 bit) version over the weekend  SO is any of the old stuff listed above required.
Outcome right now is that as previously I can only call up the Downloaded music not Podcats or CD copies.

  • Does iTunes match need to locate the actual files or just see its record in your library database? I am currently traveling in US and I have US and Australian iTunes accounts. But all my music files are on a hard drive in Australia.

Does iTunes match need to locate the actual files or just see its record in your library database? I am currently traveling in US and I have US and Australian iTunes accounts. But all my music files are on a hard drive in Australia. Can I start using itunes music match while I am travelling without the actual music files attached to my itunes?

In your situation I strongly recommend you read over that KB article. The international iTunes Stores are not cross-compatible.
My understanding of how it would work is that when activating iTunes Match on your US Store account, any songs you have in your iTunes Library that were purchased from the AUS Store account will NOT be matched. As I understand it, those files will be uploaded (which means you need the files on a local HDD). I also do not think it is possible to have iTunes Match active on more than one store ID on the same computer. But since iTunes Match is not available internationally yet, that point is moot for the moment.
To be honest you might want to wait until the service is available internationally so you can guage how will it will serve you.

I have a Windows 7 laptop using I tunes 64 and all my music files are
on an external disc. I rarely use I tunes and at one point moved all my files
(including the music files) from one external disc to another without
considering what affect this would have on the I tunes library. When I eventually
attempted to use I tunes, every selected a song from the library resulted in a
message stating that the file couldn't be located. After following some of the procedures
explained in this community I was able to reconnect the library back to where
the associated music files are presently stored. However, there are still 2
problems that need to be corrected. 1) Every song file now has a duplicate. One
file works and the other file will result in the same message stating that the
file couldn't be located. Before there were 4,000 songs in the library, now
there are 8,000 songs. I need to eliminate the 4,000 dead song files. 2) All
the playlists are still associated with the dead song files which makes the
playlists unusable. Can the playlists be reconnected to the usable files
without manually having to recreate them? Thanks in advance for the help.

    So am I understanding correctly?
You used your iPod as a hard drive (drag and drop) instead of having iTunes install the music?
If you used drag and drop your choices are different than if you used iTunes to transfer.
    Good luck!

  • My computer says that all my music files are iTunes compatible but iTunes won't play the songs; how do i get them to sync?

I formerly used Zune, which i find much more user friendly than iTunes. I bought most of my music through that program, but have since tried to import the files to iTunes so i can put them on my iPhone. All of the files have the iTunes icon & under properties say that the program that will automatically play it is iTunes, but when i click play iTunes opens up but nothing plays. They play just find on Zune & Windows Media Player so i know the track are fine. Why won't iTunes play them? i'm honestly so frustrated.

If they were songs you purchased from itunes, try redownloading them from your purchases...
if that doednt work, make sure the optuon to copy files to itunes media folder is checked in settings, then find and download from the net. and re-add them to your library

  • I updated iTunes, now all my music files are in duplicate???

Old iTunes worked fine, then I was prompted to update to the latest version 11.1.1.11 and all my songs are duplicated???
ie: Album One, Song 1 followed by Song 1 (again), Song 2 followed by Song 2 (again), etc. etc.
    See screenshot below.
As I also have Microsoft Media Player onboard and have have most song titles saved as mp3's when i bought the laptop 3 years ago, then added my iPod 5 and iTunes to it 18 months ago. Like I said, it worked fine until this recent request from Apple to upgrade to the latest version of iTunes for Microsoft/PC.
Maybe iTunes is picking up all media files, mp3 AND mp4 (or aav, whatever Apple call them now...).
I've uninstalled iTunes twice and re-installed twice to see if it would correct it with no luck.
I've not set iTunes as the default media player.
I can't see any fixes on Apples support page so I'm at a loss...
I'm too worried to connect my iPhone to my laptop now in case it stuffs up my music files stored on it from my PowerMac.
    Any tips?
    Cheers!   Mick Ward

  • After recent Verizon upgrade, my music files are messed up.  Used to be able to see all artists.  Now only some artists display and there's one giant file of "unkown".  Why would that change affter the upgrade?

Prior to March, 2015 upgrade, all my music appeared by Artist.  After the March, 2015, upgrade, about half of my music appears by Artist and then there's one giant "unknown" file.  Why would this change with the upgrade?  Makes my music unsearchable unless I want to search by the song name or album name.

You can try an app like Album Art in the Play Store and it will take any tag info and find and sort music.  Should work unless the music files were altered during update, in that case you'd need to remove those files and re-add them to the phone.

Error in downloading itunes in windows, all the .exe files turn into the itunes icon

Download the lnk registry fix from www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/19449-default-file-type-associations-restore.html. Reinstall iTunes. Should you find that all of your desktop shortcuts have again turned into links to the iTunes application apply the patch.

  • After upgrading itunes, all my music has gaps in it

I just upgraded itunes from version 6 to 7.4.3.1. Upon startup of itunes, itunes started did something wehre it had to go through all my songs. Unfortunatly, i can't remeber what it said it was doing but it had something to do with getting information on all the songs. It took about 5 min to go though all the music (5,300 songs). After it finished and i regained control, i tried playing some music. To my surprise, the songs all had little gaps in them about every 5 seconds. It sounds kind of like a CD skipping. This happens with every piece of music in my itunes library. I tried playing the same music using windows media player and these "gaps" aren't there, it works fine. It seems like this is a problem with itunes. Does anyone have any idea what this is and how to fix it?
By the way, i had the same problem when i upgraded to the first version 7 but my friend downgraded back to the old version and everything worked fine again.

same problem here... i've done google search after google search and i have no idea how to fix it.

  • Itunes says my music files are 6gb, my user/itunes music folder says its 23gb. I am trying to move it from old/new mac with 8gb ipod

I am trying to move my sons  library to his new mac using his 8 gb i pod as a hard drive.....
itunes 9.0.1  says his music files is only  6gb.  But when I go to transfer his itunes folder it says his music folder is 23gb.  I know I can home share transfer but his wireless is down.  Either way I am wondering
    1)  why is Music folder so large compared to my music library?
2.) Can I simply move the 6gb of music and the playlist info etc....using his 8gb ipod?
3.) Can I delete his previous library files ?

No, I have the music I want to move from the laptop to the phone selected. Then I go under file, devices, and try to click sync but it is not available to click.

  • After downloading iTunes all media players have choppy playback

I got a new computer and my CD and DVD playback was great until I downloaded iTunes. Now all my CDs and DVDs play back choppy/stuttering/etc. on any media players that came with my computer and iTunes. I know it is a software issue, but I don't know much else.
    Can anyone help me please??

Just an off the cuff suggestion: Have you run your Windows updater since you got your computer? Do you have all the most recent available drivers for your computer's components? You should be able to check your computer mfg's website to verify this.
Good luck! (And be patient, I'm sure others will chime in with other suggestions as well!)

  • I moved my itunes library and now when I open itunes all my music lisitngs are gone

Help...I wanted the other account on my computer (pc) to be able to listen to my itunes library. I followed the instructions from Apple,
(I thought correctly) and when I open itunes on my account all the songs are gone. Its as if I never had an itunes libary. When I go to the other account on the computer and open itunes, there is an older version of the library w/ only some songs but when I click on a song, it says it cannot be located. Which is why I tried to move the library in the first place.

What process did you use for moving the library?
I have noticed iTunes on rare occasions loses files.  Don't know why.  Keep back ups.  Before updating a backup run a script such as Dougscript List MIAs so you can make sure you aren't deleting your only copy should one get lost from your main drive.
You might want to note that it is a mistake giving away the CDs.  When you no longer posess the CD you relinquish the right to keep a copy of the music. Also, as you are finding, you no longer have a backup source for the music.

  • After downloading itunes 10.7 music videos and movies cause itunes to stop working and close

  • ITunes 9 erased all my music files

I just upgraded to iTunes 9 today and all 5,000 songs, all music files, ratings, etc are gone. I tried moving the Music Library.xml file to the desktop and reloading, but to no avail. File-Library-Import didn't work. Fortunately all my music files are backed up, but I'm not eager to rate and set up the folders again. I certainly expect better from Apple than this. Anyone else having that problem? Or, more importantly, has anyone have a good suggestion for getting it back to where it was?

Are you simply copying your music files to an Ex.HDD or using the Time Machine facility?
A similar thing happened to me when I upgraded to iTunes 8.whatever. I learnt to use Time Machine for backing up. Now everything is backed up every hour and when things go wrong during upgrades (which is often - believe it or not) all my files, playlists and ratings etc. are there to be retrieved.
Nothing can retrieve your lost files unless they're still sitting in the previous iTunes libraries folder. If they are you should be able to reactivate them. Just delete the new library file and move the old one out of the archive folder into the iTunes folder. If you're lucky it should kick in..... It's worked for me before.
    Good luck.

  • New version of ITunes installed - Not all music files are being recognized

My system crashed and Itunes was automatically 're-installed.' My music is located on my external hard drive. When I reconnected my music to ITunes about 3000 music files did not appear in my library. Before the re-install all music files were available in the library.
The music files are all still located on my external hard drive. Strangely, when I copied my music on my external hard drive to create yet another back up of my music many music files were missing on the copy. The missing files were a combination of downloaded music from a cd and purchased, no trend.
I welcome any advice on how I can get 1. my ITunes library to read all of my music files (which are in ITunes format) and 2. how do I copy all of my music on my external hard drive to make a safe back up (I-tunes back up is not an option because not all of the music appears in my library)
    Thanks for your help
