After downloading lion does not recognize blank discs or dvd´s cannot burn anything

I downloaded Lion and now my mac does not recognize any blank cd or dvd and I cannot burn anything, not with Toast 10, or with iDvd still not recognized.  Can someone help me??

Hello
I have been trying to fix a similar issue on my wife's PowerBookG4. I cannot pin point when it started, but she noticed it a couple weeks ago when she tried burning a disc. We have come to discover that her drive will no longer mount any discs at all (blank or otherwise burned discs or software). If I had to make a guess it had to have started in the last month or so after some recent update. Maybe 10.5.2? I am not sure.
I am getting extremely frustrated with Apple though on this matter because I have been browsing multiple forums and seeing this exact issue over and over again and nobody seems to have a solution or correct diagnostic for it.
I have tried zapping PRAM, I have tried many types of discs, brands, etc. and nothing works. I know this is a Software issue, it has to be. There are a LOT of people reporting this issue. If necessary I will start linking to all the different posts that I found in the last few days.
Please post some help, ASAP. This has been a major inconvenience and I cannot believe that Apple hasn't discovered the problem with how many people have been reporting it.
Thanks

  • I have a new email address and was successful in changing that information on line but my phone and iPad does not recognize the new address and I cannot update anything. It also does not accept the password associated with the old email address/Apple ID

I have a new email address and was successful in changing the information online but cannot change it on my iPhone 4S or iPad. When I try to fix the problem it requires me to create a new password and now I can't remember that either.

To change the iCloud ID you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted to turn off Find My iDevice, then sign back in with the ID you wish to use.  When you do this you may find that the password for your old ID isn't accepted.  If this should happen, and if your old ID is an earlier version of your current ID, you need to temporarily recreate your old ID by going to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iDevice on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll.  When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

  • Premiere Elements 12 does not recognize blank Blu-ray disc.

I just upgraded from Premiere Elements 8 to PRE12.  Now when I insert a blank Blu-ray disc in the BR burner, I get a message "Media Not Present".  It does recognize the burner, but not the blank disc.  Yet when I open PRE 8, PRE 8 does recognize this very same disc in the same burner!  Also, PRE 12 can burn a blank DVD in this same burner.  The Blu-ray disc also appears as a completely blank in Windows File Explorer.  And this is a problem even after updating to release 12.1.  The Adobe chat representative tells me this is a know issue with PRE12.    I find that difficult to accept, since why would Adobe change in PRE 12 something that was not broken? What's the truth, and when and how can it be fixed?

First, I tried uninstalling, register cleaning and reinstalling Premiere Elements.  This was a mess.  I kept getting error messages when trying to reinstall.  So I had to do a system restore to just before I uninstalled PRE.  After that restore, PRE would not open.  So I did another uninstall from Control Panel and reinstall, without touching the registry.  Then, I was back in operation, several frustrating hours later. But still the BR drive would not recognize Blu-ray discs.
So then I loaded a BR-RE disc, instead of a BR-R, and still no recognition.
Then I installed the external Blu-ray burner, and finally PRE12 recognized the blank Blu-ray disc.  I had a sign that this would work when I attached an external DVD drive to burn a AVCHD file, and PRE12 recognized the blank media, whereas it did not recognize any blank DVDs in the internal BR drive for burning AVCHD files.  As a alternative to borrowing an external BR drive to see if this fixes the Media not Present message, I suggest using a much more readily available external DVD drive and try to burn a AVCHD file first.  If that works, then one can be much more confident that purchasing an external Blu-ray drive will provide the solution.
Yet I deeply resent having to purchase a $125 piece of hardware, which is otherwise useless to me, to fix a bug in a program.  The box promises the ability to export a Blu-ray disc.  Since their lawyers use the weasel word "compatible" Blu-ray burner required, I fully expect them to take the position that now only an external burner is "compatible", and do nothing to fix the compatibility with internal burners.  Potential buyers be forewarned!
As an alternative to paying more money to make their software work as indicted on the box, one might want to settle for only being able to write AVCHD files to a DVD.  Most every computer (except Ultrabooks) has an internal DVD burner, which supposedly all that would be needed to burn this kind of HD file.  But first, we all need to know, will PRE12 return a Media not Present message when burning a AVCHD file to an internal DVD burner?  What are the field reports of any problems incurred doing this procedure?  Please advise.
And one more question.  When I burn an AVCHD file to a DVD, the DVD is not finalizied by PRE12.  After burning the AVCHD file, the DVD shows free space available, but after burning a DVD Video, there is no free space available.  Moreover, ImgBurn does finalize DVDs after burning AVCHD files to them.  So Is this failure by PRE12 to finalize another bug?  Can ImgBurn now finalize an unfinalizied AVCHD disc left by PRE12 -- without having to run another session of PRE to burn to a folder now, of course?  If so, how?

  • DVD drive does not recognize blank media

I have a Matshia DVD-RAM UJ-841S DVD drive, that will not recognize blank DVD media. This has been going on for a while now, so I don't know 'what has changed'. It will recognize/burn CD's, will play DVD's, but will not recognize blank DVD media. I have tried reinstalling the driver, tried different types of high quality media (Verbatim, Memorex etc). I have burned many DVD's in the past, this drive is (was) capable of doing it (despite what Microsofts FixIt programs says). I'm not terribly techy, so if it is a registry problem you'll have to explain it very carefully.
    Thanks,
    Rodney

I HAVE BEEN HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM.  I CAN BURN TO MY COMPUTER - COPY A DVD - BUT CAN'T COPY TO A BLANK DISC AND HAVE TRIED ALL KINDS OF MUSIC DISC???

  • Mountian Lion does not recognize Yosemite in Start up disk

    Greetings All,
I recently installed Yosemite on the partition of my HD (1TB) I ran Mavericks on.
On another partition of the same HD I run Mountian Lion (I use Pro Tools 9.06 on it).
When working within Mountain Lion, I used to switch to Mavericks (and vice versa) via System Preferences / Start up disk. Now Mountain Lion apparently does not recognize Yosemite as a bootable disk: in System Preferences / Start up disk Yosemite does not appear (as Mavericks used to do).
Does anyone know what's the cause of Yosemite not being available as Start up disk in System Preferences in Mountain Lion?
    Kind regards,
    Gerrit

...Another thing is a language issue: what you call the "media" line I can't translate with accuracy into Dutch. I guess it is called "Naam" (Name) in the second line of the information panel in Disk Utility and this says: Volume. I'm adding a screenshot here, maybe you'll be able to make out what what is by the way subjects are ordered in it?...
Your hard disk drive is shown divided up into three partitions: Mountain Lion, Yosemite, and the Data partition, all of which are indented in the list on the left in Disk Utility. The "media" on which the partitions exist (your Western Digital hard drive device, which is not indented), is shown in the traditional configuration we've known for years (so I apologize for introducing "Logical Volume Groups" to the discussion). It's been my experience that sometimes, installation of Yosemite will take the partition arrangement you have and convert it into a Logical Volume Group which becomes much more difficult to work with, and much, much more difficult to explain.

  • Ibook does not recognize blank DVD - profiler looks suspicious

I have an ibook g4 1.42GHz running OS 10.4.11 purchased used about 10 months ago.
All of the literature says it should have a SuperDrive which should be able to burn DVD (SuperDrive DVD±RW/CD-RW). However I cannot get it to recognize a blank DVD. Plus iDVD brings up a message saying "your macintosh does not have a supported Superdrive...you will not be able to burn a dvd"
Doing some digging, the System Profiler looks like it thinks i shouldn't be able to either:
    MATSHITA CD-RW CW-8124:
    Firmware Revision: DB0D
    Interconnect: ATAPI
    Burn Support: Yes (Apple Shipped/Supported)
    Cache: 2048 KB
    Reads DVD: Yes
    CD-Write: -R, -RW
    Burn Underrun Protection CD: Yes
    Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, CD-Raw
    Media: No
Says nothing about being able to burn dvd?
I am not aware that this model ever came NOT able to burn dvd. The only explanation i see is that the person i bought it from may have had it refurbished for some reason and they put in the wrong optical drive? Is that possible?
Or does anyone have any other explanation or fix?

    Hi
What you mean exactly? Does the drive does not recognize content on the media or there is problem if you want to burn data on DVD-R media?
Can you please explain all this a little bit more preciously?
Just for info: I use TDK empty medias almost 5 years and I can say that TDK is very good manufacturer for this stuff.

  • Lion does not recognize hp scanner on mac mini

After upgrading my 4Gig Mac Mini to Lion, it no longer recognizes my HP Scanjet 5370C?
HP does not seem to offer an upgraded driver (yet).
Does anyone have experience with this?
    Does Mac provide any assistance?

HP seems to be getting worse at issuing new drivers for their products to support new Mac operating systems. They have even failed to issue updates for models they original said they would. Saying that I believe this is quite an old model of scanner i.e. several years old, and I would not expect even normally an updated driver for such an old model.
Your options therefore are either to buy the third-party scanning software VueScan which does I believe still support this model see http://www.hamrick.com/ or to buy a completely new scanner. These days USB scanners are so cheap this is not as painful as it sounds.

  • T60 does not recognize xp disc in cd drive

    What could cause this?
Trying to install XP from CD where failed HD has been replaced. BIOS recognizes new HD & CD drive, but then error "no valid OS found". Per Lenovo Article here I disabled dual mode for cpu & have CD drive as first boot. The Lenovo Article also says to get the Intel file 'Matrix Storage Manager Driver' (for a 'diskette'). But this is NOT a boot disk. For use during OS installation, so no help to me where OS not even recognized!
I actually have 2 machines that present this, so highly unlikely it is a CD drive problem. & OC have checked it is not the disc.
Internet search shows a lot of old posts on this problem, & maybe not just T60. Much confusion, no good solution. I want to say Shame on Lenovo. What a crazy issue to have!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Thanks, I had already realized had to go to USB & used a CD drive OK. Sometimes seem to be path issues w. usb installs. I also had to switch to Compat Mode so XP could deal w SATA.
I accepted this as a "Solution" though more accurate would be "Work-around". I have nowhere seen any legit explanation why oe CD/DVD does not work for this specific purpose.  It did another install A-OK once the OS was on! ?!  I never needed the Ijntel Matrix  Blah, Blah recommended here by Lenovo. They are focused on the wrong problem.

  • Finder does not recognize inserted disc [Solution]

After working with AppleCare and suddenly stumbling on a solution to this problem, I wanted to provide a solution for the problem on the discussion boards in case someone has the same problem.
    Problem Description
When inserting a blank disc (various forms of media including DVD's and CD's) and selecting the Finder to open mount the disc on the desktop, the Finder fails to mount or load the disc with an error (no error number) indicating that the disc is not recognized.
    Problem Analysis
After various attempts at fixing the problem, I discovered that the Retrospect Express Backup software I use to perform backups to my external Hard Disk was interferring with the Finder's ability to mount media. Retrospect installs a plug-in for the Finder which analyzes inserted discs in order to mount specially formatted Retrospect discs which contain backed up files. While unproven, I believe the plug-in is interferring with the Finder's behavior.
    Workarounds
While the workarounds to this problem do not always work, I have usually found that one out of the options will work when the others do not. It also happens that the Finder usually performs as expected regardless after one of the workarounds has been successful for each reboot of the computer. That is, usually I have to perform one of the workarounds every time I restart my computer.
The first solution is simply to remove all external disks that might be handled by Retrospect (such as an external drive used for backups), and then to mount the new blank disc in the Finder.
The second solution is to start the retrospect software while inserting the blank media. The retrospect software should then analyze the media and take control of it. When you quit the Retrospect software, the software should then relinquish control of the media and the Finder will have the opportunity to access the disc free from interference.
    Additional Notes and Requests
Ideally I would like to find out what's going wrong here specifically and find a good way for Retrospect and the Finder to work together. If anyone knows of newer updates or other such things that might help with this, then that would be great. Another thing to note is that this problem only started after the 10.4.9 update to Mac OS.
If anyone has any other workarounds or comments on this solution, do please reply with them, as these workarounds are far from ideal.

Hi papagenu, and a warm welcome to the forums!
What brand & Model is it?
First, Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, test if things work OK in Safe Mode.
Then move these files to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.recentitems.plist
    Reboot & test.

  • 10.4.11 won't install after download "disk does not meet requirements"

After successfully upgrading to 10.4.6, I was able to download (after three attempts) the upgrade to 10.4.11. When I went to install it, it said the volume I picked (the one the OS is on and just upgraded to Tiger) did not meet the requirements and had the red exclaimation point on it, as did all the other volumes. There is about 8.5 GB of free space on this volume. The upgrade was from the support website and was for the power PC, not the intel. What could be happening?

    Hi BDAqua,
This is the only discussion that repeats the "disk does not meet requirements" message I'm getting. I downloaded the combo and get that message. These are my specs:
    Machine Name: Power Mac G5
    Machine Model: PowerMac7,2
    CPU Type: PowerPC 970 (2.2)
    Number Of CPUs: 1
    CPU Speed: 1.8 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB
    Memory: 3 GB
    Bus Speed: 900 MHz
But I can't seem to find any requirements documentation that explains why my PowerPC won't take this upgrade. It's my son's computer and one of his favorite games just raised its req's to 10.4.6. So I went hunting (software update gave me nothing) and found the combo. Any advice appreciated.

  • Lion does not recognizes the superdrive as external drive

    Hello,
After having replaced my superdrive for a SSD in my macbook, I look for a solution to retrieve the original superdrive in Lion.
the superdrive is now contained in a slim box firstcom. Each time i plug the drive via USB, it starts normally but i have no software able to detect it (even VLC)
I already did this method but with no success : http://macenstein.com/default/2011/07/how-to-get-your-external-super-drive-worki ng-in-lion/
That would be great if somebody can give me some help to solve it.
    Thank you for your responses.

I do not think, that replacing the superdrive by another drive is a hack. It probably does not influence the warranty. Changing the HDD by a another HDD or SSD does void your warranty, I think.
Can you not even "mount" the external superdrive with Disk Utility?
But I have another question for you: do you use the SSD for the OS? If yes: why did you not put it in the place of the HDD and the HDD in the superdrive slot (if both are the 2.5" type)? Because with earlier MBP's the Superdrive Sata connection has a lower speed than the HDD Sata connection, which means that you can have even more speed advantages by putting the SSD in the HDD place and place the slower HDD in the Superdrive location.
But, like ds said, on Bmer's forum you will certainly find the answers on your issue.

  • My boot camp partition does not recognize inserted discs

I am running OSX 10.5.8 and have a Boot Camp partition set up with Windows XP.  The Windows partition works fine, but no longer recognizes when a DVD or CD is inserted.  The disc does not appear in the My Computer folder, even though the drive is spinning.  The eject button does not function to eject the disc, and I have to shut down the Windows partition, boot up in the Mac partition to eject or see the disc contents.
This prevents me from installing any software on the Windows partition.
    Any suggestions?

Years ago there were issues with "Gear" software drivers preventing DVD/CD from working.

  • HELP! My Mac os x does not recognize Cd's or Dvd's!

My Mac OS X is not recognizing CD's or DVD's! Every time I try to insert a cd or dvd, the computer just spits it back out!
I've tried looking through different forums, but no one seems to have the answer!
Does anyone else have this problem? If so, how do you fix it?

You could try resetting the SMC and PRAM that sometimes helps in situations like this.
You don't mention what your system is or if this is happening with both blank and written disks so it's difficult to give much more information.
Of course the most likely reason for the problem is a hardware fault. Is your system still under warranty or do you have Apple Care? If so taking it in for service is the best bet.
