after downloading Yosemite I have lost my contacts and the folder they were in on my dock. How can I recover them?

Look no further help is here! I can definitely understand your concern. Keeping your contacts safes is definitely important.
Were the contacts deleted from the phone as well? How were they deleted? Did you have backup assistant or the Verizon Cloud on the phone? Were you backing up the contacts using your Gmail account?

You can downgrade but only be erasing the drive and installing the older version from an installer or a clean backup.
Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
4. Reinstall Yosemite: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall OS X from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.
5. Reinstall Yosemite from Scratch:
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.

After upgrading to Yosemite I have lost iPhoto. It has a cross through it in Finder, but I clicked on it and I was directed to download the latest version from the App store, but it is not available in the Australian store. Can anyone please help? I am not an advanced user and I would like my photos back, having had no idea I would lose iPhoto in the upgrade!
Thanks petermac87...but for some reason, the only purchases showing are OS. So assuming iPhoto is in Mountain Lion, I was hoping to look under Hidden Items there as you suggested, but there is no option for that. Only option is to download Mountain Lion again, not iPhoto specifically. Any ideas welcome!

After downloading Yosemite I lost the 'person' icon on my email banner with all my listed contacts, how do I get that back?
Hotmail, but i dont feel it has to do with all their issues they've been having. My wife's Iphone has the page i'm missing and she also has hotmail. I believe it is an In/out going server info or SMTP problem but phone doesn't dispay this info. Thanks for your help by the way.

Cannot open iPhoto after downloading Yosemite. I have upgraded to iPhoto 6.9 and have downloaded iPhoto upgrader 1.1 to no avail.
Did you go to your Applications/Utilities folder and actually double click on the updater to run it?

I dont recall when I have been more frustrated.... the "loops" I am in on the web for support are endless. After downloading Yosemite on my Mac my CS6 no longer works. On your support web site you state the following for downloading and installing previous versions of apps, such as CS6 " 1. open CC for desktop and go to the apps panel (no link is provided so I explored until I could download a trial version of "application manager" as that was required. When I attempted to open it to download "Previous Versions" I could not. I have my license number, my CS6 will not open in Yosemite and after over 2 hours I am really frustrated.... Rich@
When I go to that link, download and then attempt to install I get the message "Webe encountered the following issues, Installer failed to initialize. Please down load Adobe Support Advisor to detect the problem" I then select the link "get adobe support advisor" that takes me to a site that describes a better support link since the one I have been sent to is no longer available. I then go to that site and am told to go to CC for desktop apps, that requires me to download CC... I don't want CC.. just want to have my CS6 PS work again.... so frustrating...

After downloading Yosemite, my Ps CS4 doesn't work. It says install legacy Java SE 6, but when i go ok, or, more info can not reach any point to have it!!! What will I do?
I have similar issues and was referred to a knowledge base article support.apple.com/kb/DL1572 This seems to corrected the issue.

I cannot open any documents in InDesign after downloading Yosemite. Says I need Java 6. I have Java 8 and still doesn't open.
It may seem strange indeed, but yes, you have to ALSO install the older version 6 for Apple's system; other applications will use your Java (which I believe is now even 9) and others will use that version 6.

Downgrading an iOS is not supported by Apple but that would not bring the items back anyway.
What photos are you talking about? If they were synced to the iPod then you will have to get them from the computer from which they were synced. If the photos were taken by or saved to the iPod then they should be in the backup. The same with notes.
One the computr go to iTunes>Preferences>Devices and look at the da and time of the iPod backup. If it corresponds to before the update was performed or at the beginning of the update then the itmes should be in the backup. Restore theiPod from backup. Make sure thatyou have auto syning turned off other wise when ou connect the iPod to the computer iTunes will backup the iPod which does not have the items and delete the old backup. To turn off, go to iTunes>Preferences>Devices and check the box that say Prevent iPods.... syncing. -
After downloading Yosemite my printer, a HP Photosmart D100 will no longer print. The wireless connection is fine, and a test page printed perfectly directly from my printer. When trying to print from my computer, it says it cannot connect or find the printer. I tried downloading the most updated software from HP website but it doesn't appear to be helping.
Try resetting the printing system.

Cannot open iPhoto after downloading yosemite
After downloading Yosemite, I could not open iPhoto.
OSX Yosemite 10.10
1. Click on iPhoto icon
2. pop-up opens stating "To open your library with this version of iPhoto, it first needs to be prepared". I click "Learn more".
3. Library Upgrader opens and I click on Download.
4. I double click on the box icon in the new window.
5. "This tool prepares libraries from iPhoto 7 or earlier so they can be upgraded with the current version of iPhoto" opens in a new box. I click "continue" and agree with the agreement.
6. Click "install" in a new window and "install" again.
7. "The installation was completed successfully" appears.
8. I click on iPhoto icon and the process starts from the beginning.
I have tried this app. four times.Locate your iPhoto library and then use the iPhoto 6 and later: Rebuilding the iPhoto library - Apple Support link for instructions and then test.
If you still have troubles reset both the SMC and PRAM 2-3 times back to back. You can find instructions for this by clicking iMac SMC and PRAM reset
Post back with the results after rebuilding your library and doing the resets if you need to. -

Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Select Library. Then Mail/V2/Mailboxes -

That's because you both are using the same Apple ID for iCloud(yours). Your son deleted your contacts & added his, & as far as iCloud knows, its the same person & that's the way things are supposed to work...keeps everything in sync across all of your devices.
Your son needs his own Apple ID for iCloud, FaceTime & iMessage...this will prevent this from happening again.
As far as recovering your contacts, unless they are in a supported application somewhere else, they are most likely gone. -
Epson XP-810 Not Working after Downloading Yosemite.
I have an Epson XP-810 printer. After downloading Yosemite, the printer has stopped working with all of our Macs. It connects to the wifi network. The printing job starts. After that the job box says looking for the printer. I have checked for all updates, I have downloaded all drivers from Epson, I have turned off the printer and the computers, nothing works. I have deleted the printer and re-installed several times. It shows up in the printer & scanners box but it still will not print or scan. Does anyone know whats up?
Well you've tried just about everything. Just curious, after I installed Yosemite I had an update notification for the latest Epson driver for my XP-410. Not the same printer of course, but did you receive an Epson driver update notification from the App Store?
You can try to "reset the printing system". In the System Preferences Printers & Scanners window press the Control key while clicking in the printer list. Then select the reset choice. -
i had saw loner solved some similar issues who have lost their boot camp after Yosemite update, but my issue is different. i had thee partitions in windows one mac as usual, one boot camp and one i made in windows by shrinking the boot camp partition. but after the Yosemite update i lost the partition which i have made. both mac and windows working perfectly. requesting your suport
