Photoshop CS6 PSDs into After Effects CS5.5
Hi there,
Our graphics department have recently upgrade Photoshop to CS6 version 13.0 x64. I am trying to open a .psd file they have created in After Effects CS5.5 version 10.5.1.2. However I get the following message:
'After Effects error: could not open (.psd name) because it is not a valid Photoshop document. ( 51 :: 19 )'
Is there any way they can save their photoshop files differently so that they will open or do I need to upgrade to After Effects CS6?

(wasn't sure whether to post this here or in the photoshop forum - thought I would try here first though)I've never encountered such an issue, and switch between both versions regularly. On the machine I'm working on right now I have CS6 Creative Cloud installed, but do most of my AE work in CS5 or 5.5 because the clients I'm working for haven't upgarded yet. But all my PSD work is done in CS6.
Is there anything unusual in the file, ie 3D content? As Mylenium says, PS 3D has changed and is no longer supported by AE. Otherwise, are you moving between platforms, ie Windows to Mac? Does the file have a valid PSD extension? -
Questions about Adobe After Effects CS5 and CS5.5
I have the Adobe Design Creative Suite CS5 (Photoshop CS5, Illustrator CS5, Flash CS5, Dreamweaver CS5, InDesign CS5, and Fireworks CS5) and was going to order an old copy of After Effects CS5 for my iMac. However when I was about to order on an online store, I notice that there is a CS5 and a CS5.5 version for After Effects. I would like to know which version is better and if I get Adobe After Effects CS5.5 version will I be able to intergrate with CS5 versions of Photoshop, Illustrator, and Flash?
Alos is there a way for to order a copy of Adobe After Effects CS5(or CS5.5 version) on the Adobe online store? I don't want to order the CS6 version of After Effects because I'm afraid I will not be able to intergrate it with my CS5 versions of Photoshop, Illustrator, and Flash.You should get After Effects CS6. There is no reason to be concerned about using After Effects Effects CS6 with Flash, Illustrator, and Photoshop CS5.

Help, can't install Adobe After Effects CS5 (trial)
I tried to install the trial version of Adobe After Effects CS5 trial version and it doesn't work, when I opened the setup application it was all working fine until the installation, it went for a little bit then stopped and came up with an error message. I'm not sure what's going on, some people on other forums say you need to turn off antivirus and run as administrator but it still doesn't work.
Details of my computer:
RAM: 2GB
Disk Space: 230GB HDD (approx.) 147GB remaining
Operating System: Windows 7 Professional 64bit
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo

After Effects CS5.5 Stops responding when I import .mov files from VideoCopilot
Okay so I have a personal movie project that is in my mind so I opened After Effects and wanted to import an explosion.mov file to the video clip from Action Essentials. It worked a month ago but now for some reason right when I import the .mov clip, it crashes... I have After Effects CS4 and CS5.5 and when I import the same exact .mov file to CS4, it works. After Effects CS5.5 Version 10.5, I installed all the recent updates, the footage I was using was from video copilot, I didn't get any error messages when I put the footage in, After Effects just freezes up when I put the footage in. I was using Adobe Bridge in the background to import the clips, but I also tried importing in a different way by just plainly dragging and dropping the clips from the folder, I have not downloaded any third party codecs.
I've tried the troubleshooting, all of the solutions in the link you gave me, but none of them worked, I turned off the firewall. You can see what happens when I import the .mov clips in After Effects in the video link on the very first post of this thread. But suprisingly, the .mov files work in CS4 but not in CS5.5. -
Change language in After Effects CS5

I have AE CS5 and installed the whole thing in German (because I am German^^) but now I realize that for tutorials and so on it would be much easier in Englisch. So is there a way to change the language without reinstalling? I had a look for some answers, but the "Languages"-folder isn't located at
"C:\Program Files\Adobe\After Effects CS5"

Greets, GFXerThis is as easy as it gets. Sorry to disappoint, but you rather be glad it is actually there and it's not like in other programs where you cannot switch languages at all. For all intents and purposes, this is not meant to provide an all out solution for flexible language switching, it is merely a fallback measure when the user needs to use prefab projects from the web or follow tutorials as wel las providing a compatibility fix for some plug-ins and scripts thatr do weird things in foreign language environments. Your program is still tied to the serial number you bought it with and that ultimately dictates any language settings. This also means that you cannot enforce other languages other than English. Would be pointless, anyways - you would have to have the proper Asian installer in the first place to even get the specific language files on your system. Same for otehr languages - a US/ North America installer will never give you Italian or German, just US English, Canadian French and possibly Spanish.

Sony NEX-5N AVCHD 2.0 1080p50 and Premiere Pro/After Effects CS5.5
Hi all,
I have a new Sony NEX-5N and have shot some test 1080p50 video using it.
On my quest for some new editing/production software to close the loop I have just downloaded and installed a Trial Version of CS5.5 Production Premium.
I am able to load my video files into Premiere Pro.
However, when I attempt to open the Video File in After Effects, I recieve the following Error message:
After Effects error: '00023.MTS' cannot be imported - this '.mts' file is damaged or unsupported.
I have tried renaming the extension to .MPG, .M4V, .M2TS all with exactly the same result.
Perhaps this is a limitation of the Trial Version or perhaps a limitation of After Effects CS5.5. Is anyone able to advise?
As extra information I include below the TEXT output from MediaInfo for the file I am able to load into Premiere Pro CS5.5 but not After Effects.

Thanks for the advice about video format, I have noticed that my computer (Core 2 Duo) is very slow to process the H.264 stream, PremierePro cannot play the 30sec stream in realtime (starts to stutter around 23sec) and After Effects starts its stutter almost immediately (both just playing the stream with no effects) - that said WindowsMediaPlayer has no problem playing the same stream at full speed. I am however reluctant to do any transcoding except to a lossless format as it seems counter intuitive - but this will be the subject of another post, as I don't want to clutter this one.

Mac OS 10.7 (Lion) won't start After Effects CS5.5 because it's a powerpc app!?
I've had CS 5.5 Master Collection installed on my Mac since it came out. All the CS 5/5.5 apps I've used up to now have worked fine, in 64-bit mode (Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat Pro, InDesign). Now I need to use After Effects, but I can't get it to start.
First it said it couldn't rename a Workspaces.xml file in the preferences directory in my home folder. In fact, there was no such file there at all. Nothing to rename. So, I uninstalled After Effects using its uninstaller; then reinstalled it from the install DVDs.
Now, it fails on startup saying the After Effects CS5.5 application cannot be run because PowerPC apps are no longer supported. True: OS X no longer runs apps that require Rosetta. CS 5.5 is does not require Rosetta; it's compatible with Lion. The OS 10.7 Known Issues KB article says nothing about After Effects: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/905/cpsid_90508.html?promoid=JBQYY
So...what's going on? I need this thing working for a project with a deadline! I don't get it. Anybody seen this before? (I didn't find anything in the discussions about it, nor Google...)Interesting article, but I knew I was leaving PowerPC apps behind when I moved to OS 10.7, and Adobe claims that After Effects CS 5.5 is fully compatible with Lion. But you must be right about prefs; there's gotta be something causing the Mac OS to think this version of CS is ancient...
Since my initial message, I've tried and failed to find any details about how to select the right prefs to delete. I also ran Disk Utility to repair permissions on my system drive. That got rid of the PowerPC error:) Now on startup AE says mediacore fails to initialize. I can choose to quit or continue on that error, but continuing just results in another error that says dynamiclinkmanager unexpectedly quit, and then AE locks up and I have to force quit it. Not much progress!
No other answers on this so far... Before I uninstall the entire Creative Suite and then delete all Adobe system and hidden files everywhere, any more suggestions? Or a list of the right prefs I should trash? -
Why does my After Effects CS5.5 keep crashing on me when I switch to other apps?
I have Adobe After Effects CS5.5 (v.10.5.1) and it keeps crashing when switching between AE and other programs. Here's a video so you can see what's happening.
I don't have any special plug-ins loaded except for what came with the program. OpenGL rendering is turned on and have tried turning it off to see if it make the problem go away and it doesn't make a difference.
Greatly appreciate any assistance I can get on this.

No Audio In After Effects CS5.5(Even after rendering)
I currently have the After Effects CS5.5 Trial Version installed. I am running into a bad audio problem. For the first 2 days I have used it, the audio was fine, it played automatically and I didn't even have to render first to get it. Then, the third day, I got on that day and the audio jsut flat out didnt work. I did look it up on the forums and google, and nothing helped. I have tried rendering(with audio), using different video files and clips, and even reinstaling the trial. Nothing worked. The RAM Preview plays sound fine, and when I double-tap "L", the soundwaves do show, and they are accurate when played on the preview. I have tried WMV, AVI, and mp4 files, none of which have worked. I can edit and add effects and import picture and other files fine, but the audio simply doesnt work. I can't get audio by playing it normally.
I know it is not usual to ask questions about the trial, or to even have them answered, but this is important because I want to buy After Effects CS5.5, and before I do, I need to know if this is a computer problem, or if I did something to mess up the program, or if there is even a way to solve it. I don't want to buy it and realize I can't even use it with audio for some reason.
P.S. I am fairly new to this, so if you blast me with some complex, in-depth instructions, please try to make it rather simple, or just explain it well.

After Effects CS5 will not open
Hi - I've been looking through the forums trying to find my specific problem and solution, but so far no luck. I've just installed CS5 Production Premium on a Core Duo MacBook Pro that I'm pretty sure meets minimum CS5 requirements - running Snow Leopard, 2GB of RAM (I know, barely squeaks by). The problem is - I am unable to open After Effects at all. Every single time I try to open it, I get the message saying "After Effects has unexpectedly quit". It doesn't even get to the purple AE loading box...heck, it doesn't even get to a bouncing icon! I've tried starting in safe mode, I've repaired permissions, trashed preferences...all to no avail. I'm pasting the crash log below in the hopes that someone can decipher it and point me in the right direction. BTW, I thought all other apps in the suite were opening fine - Photoshop, Premier, etc have no problems - then Illustrator just displayed the same issue. Grrr...please help!

if i am correct you are getting this error " After Effects has unexpectedly quit " every time u launch the after effect on your Mac book pro.... well i have a solution that u can try : this is how it goes
1)Create a folder on desktop and name it as Mac fonts.
2)Now go to Library and select fonts folder.
3)Drag all the fonts from this folder and put them in the folder that u created on desktop.
4)Re-launch the application once again , if the application works fine then it is the corrupt fonts which are creating problem for u while launching the application.

After Effects CS5.5 - Lion: Crash on splash screen EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGABRT)
So one day, out of the blue, After Effects stops wanting to open. The worst part is, I can't think of any changes that would have caused this.
I am running After Effects CS5.5 (10.5.1) on my MacBook Pro 13" (Early 2011), which is running Mac OSX Lion. Here is my system profile (with some sections omitted).
Just a few weeks ago, I began to consistently receive this message during the AE splash screen:

First attempt
I figured maybe I had a bad preference file, so I cleared my prefs. Nothing changed aside from a modified error message:

So I uninstalled and reinstalled After Effects about 3 times. No change. I used the latest download from Adobe, and the original Master Collection image: no difference.
Fifth attempt
I created a second admin account to see if this was an isolated issue. It isn't; same problem.
Sixth attempt
I thought about QuickTime, so I opened up System Prefs, and uninstalled Perian. I left the prefpane there though.
Also, I have the latest version of Java.
Seventh attempt (Added 19 March 2012)
I used the Adobe Creative Suite Cleaner Tool to wipe out my entire Adobe installation. I still have the same problem after a reinstall. I'm going to try installing AE on my external drive next. This is really frustrating. Has anyone experienced this issue and found a resolution?

Also, opening up the render engine causes the same error message.I just installed AE, have never used it, and am seeing it bail on startup with the same odd language registry key error. Please see my post on a related thread.
Any luck here? Would be nice to get AE to boot so I could evaluate it. -
After Effects CS5 crashes when I make a selection in the destination field of BCC Morph plug-in
Steps to reproduce bug:
1.Open AE
2.Create a composition
3.Import photos (.png)
4.Put photos on timeline
5. Add BCC Morph from Effects&Presets BCC7 OpenGL to first photo on timeline
6. Select Source Unwarped in Render Mode field
7. Select 2nd photo in Destination field
Results: AE crashes
Error messages displayed for several attempts:
A.Crash occurred while invoking effect plug-in BCC last logged message 4424, 4604
B.Crash in progress. Last logged message was : <5000> <DynamicLink><5> C:\ Program Files (x86) \Common Files\Adobe\dynamiclink/CS5/dynamiclinkmanager.exe
C. AE can't continue: sorry AE has crashed. See www.adobe.com/support/products/aftereffects.html for know issues (0 :: 42)
Expected results:
Able to continue selecting options (setup the duration of the Morph by adding a key frame using the Key Marker)
What I've tried so far:
- I verified I have the latest version of After Effects
- I Removed the OpenGL plug-in from the After Effects plug-ins folder and After Effect still crashed
- My PC meets the minimum requirements for After Effects
- My video card driver is the most current the manufacture has available to date

I want to get adobe after effects cs5.5 for mac, i cant seem to find it anywhere and i dont wanna use cs6 bacause how bad it is on mac?
You can only buy current versions and that means CS6. Your only chance to get CS5.5 would be a used license from someone else, but even then you would have to do a proper Transfer of Adobe product license.

How to work with Premiere Pro cs5.5 and After Effects cs5 together?
I have edited my movie in premiere pro cs5.5 and made the rough cut. In premiere, i have edited the video, put in soundtrack and foley. Now, i need to add muzzle flashes & blood splatters in some scenes and final color correction using After Effects cs5.
When i import the premiere project in AE and make the changes, and then i export it back as premiere project. When i open this prmiere project, it shows vaious kind of errors and no changes are retained that i did in AE. Also, when i import the premiere project (which has 4 different sequences) in AE, all the media that has been imported in the premiere project also opens in AE making it difficult to organize the media.
How should i work now so that i add vfx and color correction using AE cs5?
I thought of exporting the video from Premiere pro and then open the video in AE and add vfx to some scenes and color correction to the full video and render it out again. But, this is the first time i am using AE and i am not sure if this is the best way. PLEASE HELP.
Or, i could import the whole project in AE, add vfx, do color correction AND then export to video from AE. But i think, it will be better if i export the video from Premiere as it has loads of options to choose from while exporting to a movie.
The dynamic link does not work between Premiere Pro Cs5.5 and After Effects cs5. Even if it does, its not working on my pc.
All the footage is in HD and i want the final result in best quality HD too. PLEASE Help!If you are working between After Effects and Premiere Pro but with versions that are not the same number, you need to just work with movies rendered and exported as intermediate, lossless files.
Dynamic Link only works between After Effects and Premiere Pro of the same version number, and only when they are installed as part of the same suite.
