After Effects 12.2 Cache won't empty

Hello, just updated to the new AE version and really soon i run in a problem. The Purge - All memory and disc cache doesn't work anymore. I can't delete the cache even in the preference window. Nothing happens. It recognize the exact space occupied by the cache, but if i press ok i have a flash and nothing happens. I've deleted the old 12.1 cache folder, reset AE preferences, delete the folder again, restart the computer. Simply it doesn't work anymore. I've read that there is an update to this function, but for me is somethig that have broken what is ever work, since 12.0. So, 12.0 and 12.1 works... 12.2 no!
Sorry, but i'm a bit frustrated...nothing seems to go in the right way with CC software, at least for me.
I've not changed anything in my system, i have only CC apps on a fresh formatted system.
If there is something that i can try, please let me know...

I have tested the update on other four machine in the office where i work,three PC and one Mac..(i know, here in Italy is saturday 1.26 AM and i have to sleep!).No one of the AE is able to clean the cache. I have tried to clean the old 12.1 folder, but nothing happens. So what happen is this: AE see the cache files and reports the right disc space used. When i click "ok" the clean cache window pops up and disappear after a "flash". The cache is still there. Now, if i clean manually the cache, when select clean disc etc... in AE, it continue to show the old amount of data. In other words, doesn't see that there is no more cache on the SSD. Onthe PC, UAC is turned off, i have tried to run AE as Administrator, clean again preferences.Win 7 Pro. On MAC i don't really know wich OS is running...sorry but i'm a Windows fan!
Is there a workaround or a way to understand why AE won't clean the cache anymore? Yes, i can do it manually, but i don't understand why something that have ever worked now doesn't work!
My (well known i think!) PC spec:
i7 980x
GTX680 4Gb
24Gb DDR3 Triple Channel 1333Mhz
MXO2 MIni with Max
2x SSD Intel DCS 3500 (one for cache)
In the office systems are really similar to mine, with the same Intel SSD for cache.

After Effects 6.5 Pro Won't Open

In 2004 I bought and installed Adobe Video Collection Professional Version 2.5 on my Windows computer. Since then I have used all of the programs except the After Effects. Last week, for the first time, I went to open AE. When I clicked on the icon on my desktop, the AE window opens, and the program goes through the motions of loading whatever it loads to start up the software. When it was done the window closed, and I found myself staring at the desktop.
I have removed the AE software and reloaded it from the disk. I thought that perhaps since 2004 there might have been a file that might have been deleted by mistake. I get the same results. I have searched this and other forums for an answer and have not found one that works. Someone, please help... I was hoping to complete the editing of my daughter's wedding before Christmas the end of the year.
P.S. - I am not a computer geek, so please offer any advice with simple instructions. I do appreciate those of you that are.

I removed the plug-in as you suggested, and AE opened as it was designed to do. Thank you so much. I did not clean out the prefs... not sure where the user home directory would be found. By the way, what is the purpose of the OpenGL plug-in? Why would it be included as part of the program if it won't let the program open?

After Effects CS6: ***Layer Cache Indicators*** issues

I guess i jumped the guns too soon on the CS6 upgrade (from CS5.5 Production Premium) as I've discovered quite a major issue with one of the selling points of this product.
The issue is with After Effects CS6, as enabling Layer Cache Indicators is not available. You can only select to show the global cache indicators (thats the render blue/green line on top of all the layers), but i really wanted to see the render bar for each of the layers, which was heavily advertized upon release of CS6.
Adobe, you have to fix this asap, release an update. This feature is available in CS5.5 (I've checked) but no where can i find to enable it in CS6.
PLEASE HELP!

Its the Timeline panel menu, that yellow button on the top-right corner within the timeline. That opens up a menu, hold CNTRL + select show cache and the render bars going to appear on each of the layers. This should work for MAC i think.

After Effects 7.0 Professional won't install on Mac

Hi guys, trying to install AE 7.0 Professional via a disc package I bought on Amazon. I keep getting this error message. I have OS X 10.9.4, with 3.4 ghz intel core i5 processor and lots of memory. Don't know how to get past this error message. I have no direct access to AE support. I have contacted the seller. Any help here would be appreciated. Thanks.

After Effects 7.0 does not support Intel processors on Mac OS. It was the last PowerPC-only release.
After Effects 7 is not compatible with Mavericks. (Neither are the next three versions.) The oldest version that works on Mavericks is CS6 (which is AE version 11) and only if you update it to the latest bug fix version (11.0.4).
I don't know for a fact that After Effects CS3, CS4, CS5 or CS5.5 would not run on Mac OS 10.9. We have not tested those versions on that OS. I don't know of a specific reason why they wouldn't work, but we don't support them anymore, and keep in mind that there is a higher risk of problems when more time passes between the release of an application and the release of an operating system you want to run it on.
Adobe supports After Effects CS6, CC, and CC 2014 on Mac OS 10.9. Updates are required for After Effects CS6 and CC, which were released prior to Mac OS 10.9 being available, and had a specific compatibility issue between Mac OS 10.9 and the Nvidia Optix libraries used for the ray-traced renderer.

Question: After Effects 5.5 Camera won't Orbit or Track XY or Z at ALL.

I use After Effects CS 5.5 on an OSX 10.7.4.
When I try to use a Camera Orbit or Track tool, it doesn't want to do it. Never moves. It just makes that error-beep every time I click.
I want to find out what's wrong with it, what couldv'e happened and how I can get it to move again.

My After Effects CS5 crashed and won't restart

My battery died on my laptop while AF CS5 was running (I thought it was plugged in). It had been running fine up till then.
When I plugged the machine in and started AF, I got the error message:
"After Effects error: Crash in progress. Last logged message was: <4788> <DynamicLink><5>C\Program Files(x86)\Common Files\Adobe\DynamicLink\CS5|dynamiclinkmanager.exe"
After clicking on OK, I get the error:
"After Effects can't continue: sorry, After Effects has crashed. See http://www.adobe.com/support/products/aftereffects.html for Adobe nTechnical Support (2). (0 :: 42)"
I restarted the machine and AF, but get the same error message. All of the other Production Premium Suite programs still run fine.
I reinstalled AE CS5 from the CD, but still the same problem.
I have emailed Adobe, but have not heard back yet. Any Ideas?

I renamed the "Adobe After Effects 10.0-x64 Prefs.txt" file, AE started right up and created a new one.
Tip - When I looked for the AppData file in C:\users\user name\ folder, I couldn't find it! Then I realized that my "show hidden files" setting was turned off in the folder options.

After Effects 2014 updated version won't open

Hi,
Ever since I updated after effects on Thursday 4th December 2014 (I think it was) it will not open. We downloaded an older version of CC but I cannot open any of my projects as they were made in the new 2014 version. We have uninstalled and installed but yet to figure out why the updated 2014 version will not open. We only bought this less than 2 months ago.
Any help would be appreciated.

May I ask why you need to clear image cache from your effect plug-in?
It may be a bug (either in Plug-in or AE) if you need to do so for some reason.

Is After Effects CC disk cache taking up double the space on my RAID 0 SSD? Should I move it?

In AE CC the available space on my RAID 0 (2 x 120GB SSD) drive drops from 100GB to around 40GB as soon as I do even a small RAM preview and even though I have set the disk cache in the preferences to 30GB. It also causes AE to prompt that I may not have enough space on the drive for the amount of cache I have set in preferences even though there appears to be 40GB left on it.
I really value working with long fast RAM previews but other than that I'm not sure if the performance is jeopardised at all here. At one point I was enjoying 60GB of disk cache.
RAID 0 is striped so it shouldn't take up double the space, am I right?
I am about to install a RAID 0 HDD (2 x 3TB) for source files as I work with video a lot and have a 4K RAW project on the go so no time like the present. So should I move the disk cache from the ridiculously fast RAID 0 SSD to the new RAID HDD drive (as suggested in Harm's guide)?

Thank you Mylenium. All this time I have been absolutely convinced that you don't need to defragment SSDs. Is this a complete misunderstanding? Even if you do though, I have Windows 8 (not 8.1) which is doing that once a week automatically (apparently even to SSDs).
Are you saying that the 30GB disk cache set up works like a contiguous file?

2 x 120GB Force GT Raid 0 SSD on SATA 6gb/s is my boot drive as well as where I keep programs and the disk cache. I do a disk clean up to remove temp files a couple of times a week but that's all.
1 x 3TB Barracuda on on SATA 6gb/s for back ups and exports
3TB Lacie on USB 3 for source video and project files
2TB Lacie on USB 3 for archive projects
660ti 2GB
I'll try a manual defrag of my RAID 0 SSDs now.

After Effects CC disk cache error on startup w/ immediate crash

I'm running a GTX 780 with 32GB of RAM, x1 240GB SSD (on which AE is installed) and x1 2.5TB HDD. Both show that they have more than enough space to cache the 10GB recommended by AE, yet whenever I open it up, it prompts a message box informing me that my disk cache folder is on a drive that does not have enough available space specified in my preferences. So I click OK, thinking that I'll be able to change this, but AE immediately quits as soon as the message box disappears. How can I change the preferences for AE without actually opening it? Or am I going about this the wrong way? Please help, Adobe Support was just about useless in this situation.

It's weird that your permissions fixing didn't fix it.
It's almost always that. This page suggests it and some other fixes: fixing permissions problem that impedes start of Adobe applications
Also, try running CC (version 12) and see if it works.

After effects cc installs but won't update, install not showing up

I've tried installing AE CC. I'm told it needs to update but I get an error and am assured all will be fine if I close CC and restart. Nope. I uninstalled AE CC and reinstalled, got the same problem. I'm really sick of this kind of basic issue. I'm sure that Adobe's profits are up with CC, but my satisfaction is down. I hate wasting time on this kind of crap.

After Effects CS6 full program won't open - only render engine

As the subject line says, I can't get the version of the product to open up - it defaults to the render engine, no matter which .exe file I open or project file I try to open. And -yes - as far as I know, I've downloaded and installed the full version of the program.
Is this a hardware/software/installation issue??

I have no idea if it's a registry key issue (probably the case?), a hardware issue, product registration issue..etc.
This was a short-term problem that I wanted solved ( I needed to open my project in the full version ASAP, but didn't have it installed on any other machine ), but instead we just expedited the long-term solution (below).
I really only needed the 12-core machine for rendering, so we ended up installing AE6 on a laptop that I can work from (the full version installed and opened up with no problems), and we use the 12-core machine ONLY for rendering - no actual project file work. Because of that, the render engine is all that needs to open on the 12-core machine.
Nevertheless... definitely a frustrating and confusing issue.

Can anyone tell me where the default location is for the disc cache in After Effects CS6?

I recently changed the location of the disc cache in After Effects CS6 but I failed to empty the cache before changing the location and I need to delete all of the old cached files. Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit OS.

Media Cahce folder for Database entries and Media Cache Files folder for cache files.

Adobe After Effects CS5 won't let me save!

I am trying to save in After Effects CS5 and it won't let me save the project, this error code keeps popping up:
I try searching for this folder and I cannot find it. Are these files hidden? I have been searching for the passed hour! and can't find the folders anywhere! I am at the tipping point here! Please Help!
