After effects 132 new keyframes... it's a joke isn't it ??

Hello,
I'm sorry to says, but It's getting worse and worse.
Come on guys, what is better in this ?
Blurred my eyes see? It's just a pile of keys all glued together ... Someone beta tests in adobe?
how far we have to zoom in to see something? Please go back, I will do with the keys to version 13.1

kanadiou, thanks for posting. As I was one of the people involved in making this change in After Effects 2014.2 (13.2), I have some perspective to share with you.
The keyframe icons were changed in After Effects 2014.2 (13.2) to address feedback that the icons in After Effects 2014.1 (13.1) were difficult to visually distinguish against the darker background. The new icons have higher-contrast edges and are slightly brighter overall.
Quite a bit of design work, including several revisions of the design, went into the new set of icons. The new icons, including the design variants, were tested by our prerelease program, users of After Effects like yourself who we asked to test the new keyframes with real-world projects. The feedback they gave us on the new icons is that they solved the problem we intended to address, and that they are better than the keyframe icons in After Effects 2014.1 (13.1). That said, our prerelease users are never shy to criticize, and did tell us about some new issues with this design, which I'll detail below.
1. When zoomed out, keyframes that are clustered closely together are hard to distinguish from each other. kanadiou, this is what your screenshots show. We noticed this issue on the first design iteration of the new keyframe icons and explicitly asked our prerelease users about this. What they told us is that while the new design looks slightly worse in this regard, the amount of detail available in either the new or old designs is not useful; you always need to zoom in to get useful detail.
2. The continuous bezier (hourglass) keyframe icon is wider ("fatter", as our prerelease users put it) than the old icons. This was a side effect of adding the bright outline to the icons; with the limited resolution of these small icons, the pixel changes started warping this shape, which is more complex (6 vertices) than the other icons. We did try some variants that were narrower, but it compromised the design in a different, worse way. We may revisit this in the future.
3. The contrast of half-bright, half-dark keyframe icons is distracting. Although the split-shading keyframe design has been in After Effects for almost its entire existence, the contrast was subdued significantly in After Effects 7.0 (2006) to the point where it wasn't noticeable; although it wasn't the primary goal of the design, the new keyframe icons in After Effects 2014.2 (13.2) raises this contrast and makes the difference noticeable again. We were surprised to learn that, because of the contrast was so low for so long, many of our (very experienced) prerelease users were unfamiliar with the intent of the split-shading keyframe design. If you're also unfamiliar, you may want to read up on keyframe interpolation and what the shading indicates. This led to a discussion of whether keyframe interpolation is the best information to convey with this shading, and whether there are alternate keyframe designs that could convey more useful information. This is good for us to consider for the future, but out of scope for the immediate problem we intended to solve, the visibility of the keyframes.
4. The icon color and brightness can't be changed from blue to the amber used in previous releases of After Effects. The color of the icons (or any other part of the user interface) was not within scope of what we were changing in After Effects 2014.2 (13.2). We have been reading all of your comments, forum posts, and feature requests to make the highlight indicator color and brightness a customizable setting in After Effects and the other Adobe digital video and audio products. Our User Experience group has been carefully considering how that can be achieved. We intend to talk about this more in the future.
kanadiou, and everyone else, we welcome your suggestions on how to improve the keyframe icon designs. I do ask that you be specific about the problems you'd like us to address. Knowing which problems bother you the most will help us prioritize what we change in After Effects.

There's a list of the big new features in the
"New features in After Effects CS4" section of After Effects CS4 Help on the Web, and you can read about every little change to the UI in the
"User interface changes from After Effects CS3 to After Effects CS4" section.
But I thought that all of you who have posted requests to this wishlist might like to get specific responses to some of the items on this list.
First of all, though, I'd like to point out an innovative set of features that I think addresses a request that many of you have made... just not exactly as you asked for it. All of us have wanted a better way to see into and navigate among nested compositions (precompositions). The Composition Mini-Flowchart and Composition Navigator make moving around in a complex project much, much faster and easier. Telling you to see the
"Opening and navigating nested compositions" section isn't going to do this feature set justice. You'll only appreciate how slick this is when you get your hands on it.
Oh, and we reversed the behavior of double-clicking versus Option-double-clicking a precomposition layer: Now double-clicking opens the source composition in the Composition panel, not the precomposition layer in the Layer panel.
Now, on to the specific responses...
    David Wigforss:

Though we did add "more stuff", we also spent a lot of time polishing the application this time. The number of small tweaks to address pain points was very large.

  • Can't open After Effects on new mac pro

When I try to open After Effects on my new mac pro it tells me that I cannot use this version of After Effects with this computer. I have the CS6 master collection and all the other apps in the same collection work fine.

MLM_ANIM did you migrate or transfer your Adobe applications to the new Mac Pro?  What version of Mac OS specifically are you using?

  • Performance with After Effects on New 27" iMac 24GB RAM should be SO FAST Right?

Hello, I just got the new 27" iMac, installed 24GB Crucial RAM. It's got 3.4GHz Intel Core i7 processor.
And NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX 2048 MB....
So I just installed my After Effects and Premiere programs, opened up a project. Literally just tested a 3 second after effects composition and rendered it. It says it is using 18% of 24GB of RAM and it is taking over an hour. I even attempted changing the output setting to just a H.264 1080p 23.976. Same issue.
I am pretty new at this stuff, but I've got an 8GB Powerbook that would render this in less than a minute. Can you think of something I should check on? What could be causing this? Seems like something is very wrong here. I haven't even done anything to my settings, it's basically all out of the box (software and computer).
    Thank you so much!

We cannot know. You need to tell us what exactly is going on in your comp. The simple explanation would be that you have set your comp renderer to raytrace 3D and with that on, on systems that do not have a supported GPU even simple, conventional stuff renders for ever. Check this. For anything else we need much more info.

  • Creative Cloud thinks After Effects CS6 is on my computer, but it isn't.

I never installed the trial version of After Effects CS6, but when I went to do so, Creative Cloud said it was already on my computer and up to date.
I searched in all of my system files and nothing came up. I know for sure I have never used it. I can't download the trail from the adobe website because it automatically opens up Creative Cloud, which can't uninstall programs, so I can' get After Effects.

  • AFTER EFFECTS CS6   New Feathering !

    Hi all,
This question is really geared towards adobe tech support at this stage of the game:
I noticed that when the new feather tool is selected and is pulling out on a  mask point,  it seems that ALL of the points get equally feathered as well.
You then have to go around and add more "feather points" to bring the feather "in"  on the areas that you want to remain sharp.
This seems to add more work to the artist, no ?
Is there a way when you drag out a point, it feathers "JUST" the point you're pulling on?
Or will we have to go around adding points to bring the feather back into the areas we didn't want to feather in the first place?
Not that I'm complaining, I've been waiting YEARS for a feather option like Nuke's or Combustion has.
    Thanks

This is all explained and demonstrated here:

  • ----- After Effects Wish List (Pre 2008 - Read Only) -----

    AFTER EFFECTS WISHLIST
What features would you like to see implemented in After Effects? New ideas for plugins? Interface changes? Post 'em here!
Let's keep bug identification to individual posts, as these will probably be addressed more readily. Let's use this thread for specific ideas about ways that AE can be improved and expanded.
These Forums are for users, not Adobe employees, so don't forget to also fill in an
    Adobe Feature Request Form.
    Here's a few for starters:
    b From Silversurfer:
Add dropdowns for precomp contents within a composition timeline (I have put this one in to the Feature Request area a bunch of times way before 7 Pro came out)?
In the Timeline Tabs...how about losing the word "Timeline:" on every single tab in the timeline (at least give us the option to turn it off).
In Multiview (2 & 4 View) Mode in the Composition Window: How about a small semi-transparent "View Label" in the corner of each view displayed (Front / Back / Top / Bottom / Active Camera / etc)...you know - like a 3D program?
Please add more flexibility within the Composition Window Multiview Mode - to be able to grab & stretch a smaller view out to make it larger.
    b From Aaron Cobb:
I'd like to see the return of the old motion graphs, for quick reference purposes. The new graphs add a lot of improvements, but they take away 1:1 correlation, the ability to see the graphs alongside all the other timeline markers and keyframes, and easy readability. I'd love to have the best of both worlds.
The ability to set the motion graph background color independent of the interface color would be a big plus.

Please give us the option to go back to the much faster and responsive old interface or fix the current one so it doesn't lag anymore...IMO this should be the highest priority right now along with the hiding issue. Give us options to disable the font smoothing and fancy graphics to its bare minimum (think discreet's flame).
Please put back the option to change the cell height on the Timeline window. It used to be much smaller and as a result I can see less layers fitting in the window in AE7 in comparison to AE6.5. This is a direct example of the interface getting in the way of...working.
Fix the Timeline tabs so they don't rearrange themselves alphabetically when I reopen the project. And another vote to lose the "Timeline" word.
Add more options besides the Ease In/Out/Ease. Cinema4D has a very cool approach to this and there are very useful presets such as "Slow" (object reduces speed in a realistic way, i.e. a ball rolling on the grass and gradually coming to a stop), "Fast" (quick burst of speed in the beginning, i.e. the same ball after being kicked, a bullet, etc.)
Speed, speed, speed. Did I say this should be the top priority? :)

To view the Wish List posts prior to 2008, look here.

    sort out 3gb ram limit.
multi-processing for more than 6 processors.
aforementioned 3d camera interface issues that haven't been sorted in at least 8 years. WTF?
    Intelligent caching of rendered layers.
Select all render and output settings, file destination in render queue.
Be able to turn off that thing where you double click on a layer and it opens the footage window. Anyone using that footage window much?
Ability to precomp 3d layers together and continuously rasterize. And everything work. Adjustment layers, etc not to split up 3d comps in depth order. Specific layer to do this instead.
Just don't bother with the node view thing unless it's useful. Imitation Flame thing from years ago. We all asked for it. And got something different. No one uses it. Do they?
Import 3d models. Actual use of opengl for realtime fx.
Decent colour grading tool. Not color finesse bundle. Or buying something. Even levels and HSB together would save a little time.
Really not hard. Channel mixer anyone?
Import XML file. Instead of buying auto duck. How about adobe buy auto duck instead?
Silky smooth playback to broadcast monitor.
Instead of node-based view of project. How about node based view of expressions a la quartz composer /c4d xpresso.
Import midi files as keyframe data.
    Exponential scale as keyframe setting.
Mask feathering with separate bezier for feathering. YES.
Not crashing quite so much on my 8core.
XYZ position editing as separate channels.

  • Blank Layer in After Effects CS4

I use to remember how to create a blank layer in after effects, then add a blur effect to the layer and make a oval. I am obviously doing something wrong because what I am doing is not working. I am trying to blur a moving object in adobe premier using key framing. I use to open a new composition, then add an adjustment layer, add a blur effect, then use the shape tool to create a blurred oval. Not sure what I am doing wrong but its not working.

    brian100780 wrote:
i can do it all in after effects but i thought that i did the key framing in premier, i could be wrong i havent done this in a while. basically im looking to make a blurred circle in after effects.
No keyframing is required for this effect so we're not sure what you think you want us to help you accomplish. Since this is the AE forum forget you have Premiere and forget how you think you remember doing something because, we will agree, your memory appears to be faulty by your own admission. Try to explain what you want to see on the screen in the simplest of terms

  • Premiere to After Effects Possible Bug

    Hi,
Just exprerienced a problem on my CS6 master collection. Since I have uninstalled my CS5.5 I can not see if this was present before.
Anyway here is what I have experienced.
I have a timeline in Premiere where all the clips are in reverse speed and each clip is dissolved into each other with opacity keyframes ( Each clip has in and out points).
When you copy all items in premiere and then paste it into a new composition in After Effects. Opacity keyframes are misplaced. I believe that after effects reads the keyframes as if the clips in premire were not in reverse speed.
    Koray Birand

When you copy all items in premiere and then paste it into a new composition in After Effects.
Don't do that.  Select the clips in PP, right click and choose replace with After Effects Composition...
    See if that helps.

  • Having trouble exporting file from After Effects CS5.5

I am trying to add some titles to a Multi Camera mix I have finished. I have exported my multi cam that I created in Premiere Pro as an MPEG.
So hears what I have done:
    - open After effects
    - create new composition (HD 1080x1440- length 2:16 (so clip fits)
    - I place my clip in the time line the type some text.
    - in the effects bar I click the roll up and select "Browse Presets" which opens adobe bridge
    - I apply my effects and they play back in elements fine...
When I try to export my clip as a Premiere Pro Project it doesnt keep my animated txt when I open it. Says it does not support the presets. his
Con someone please help me export this project? Getting very frustrating. I need it as a High Res HD file

Create the titles in After Effects without the MPEG.  (Or if you must use it as a reference, go ahead and do so, and then when you're done creating the title, delete the MPEG.)
Then go back to PP and select File>Dynamic Link>Import After Effects Composition...  Navigate to the AE project that has the title, and bring in that composition.  It will appear in your bin as a clip.  Then you add it to the sequence and export the completed video with titles.

The  issue is the poor quality of the videos that are featured in the  opening -- compared to the high quality of videos from the original Premiere  project., which you can see at the end of the clip.
To create the After Effects project, I exported a series of video clips from Premiere  to mp4.
Then I imported them into AfterEffects.
The bottom line, and the purpose of this question, is I am thinking that  MP4 was not the best choice for the Adobe Premiere export.
What  is the best format to export video from in Premiere Pro CS5 to import  into after effects, or to import into any other editing program,  incuding importing right back into Adobe Premiere, if that is eever  needed.
    AVI?
    MOV
    MP4
And any other settings that will result with the highest qualiity videos for importing.
    Thanks

Okay, here's where I stand at this point regarding exporting and/or dynamic linking between AfterEffects and Premiere.
I'm in After Effects.  I create a composition I like.  So I first tried the old fashioned way. I exported it into a MOV file with the animation preset. Millions of colors.  Same frame rate as my Premiere project, which also uses MOV files with no problem.
Howver when I import the MOV file created by After effects, the NEW MOV file section of the premier project plays sluggish.  And it also causes the videos that follow to play sluggish.   And they are all MOV files at the same frame rate.
The same thing happens when I do a dynamic link between the two projects.  A sluggish response starting with the After Effects dynamic link and affecting the MOV video files that follow.
It's a very short After Effects composition.  About 3 second slong.
I have a very powerful computer built especially for CS5 and premiere --so that should not be an issue -- recently was in the top ten of the benchmark list.
Up to this point my video files have played perfectly layer upon layer with no problems.
Is there something I am not considering?
    Thanks.

  • Trying to open an after effects file from a pc on my mac.

Hi I am trying to open an after effects file from a pc on my mac. This is the error i get.
'the file you are attempting to open was created with after effects version 13.2 (windows 64)'
I am running mavericks 10.9.5, and I have updated my after effects in the creative cloud manager.
Will it open if the person on the pc saves it as an older version?
    Thanks

  • After effects warning could not create the file

    Hi,
I am fairly new to After effects, (so new that I haven't managed to save a file). Can anyone help with this? I am running CS6 on an oldish mac pro, but flash and premiere run fine, and so does after effects, except it won't let me save, and instead comes up with this message: after effects warning could not create the file.
I have even tried saving a file with just a jpeg in it, and it still won't let me.
Any suggestions? I am a bit confused.

When you save in AE, you're saving the project file -- which inclues all your work in the comp -- but you can't save the comp itself to a media file.  It doesn't work that way.  You have to export or use the AE Render Queue.
I recommend spending some quality time here.
