After Effects 3D Text Colouring?

Hello,
I have been working for quite a bit now to try to firgure this out, but I still can't get it. I have made some 3D text in Ae, and coloured it orange. In photoshop, I was able to go into the layer in 3D mode and edit the insides of the letters to a darker shade of orange. I can't find this in Ae. So how would I do it?
Running After Effects CS6, Windows 8.1
Thanks,
Jack

If this is live text and you are using raytrace 3D, then apply the relevant text animators. If this is a 3D PSD, then it's inaccessible and you only get a rendered layer.

  • Problem with After effects present text animations

When I want to use the text animation presets I get an error message, an example is when I want to use a text "animate in" preset and got the following error message:  After Effects error:  Can't import file "Fly In From Bottom.ffx": unsupported filetype or extension. ( 0 :: 1 ). I have check my bridge script settings and they are activated for After effects.

Sounds like you are trying to import a FFX file instead of applying an animation preset. Some users are reporting problems with Bridge. Just type the name of the animation preset into the Effects and Presets panel and apply it from inside AE.

  • After Effects CC Text Problem

    Hallo,

  • Increase After Effects System text for high resolution monitor

I just purchased a high resolution monitor.  The panels and system text (rendering queue, project panel, etc.) in After Effects is now just about microscopic.
Is there anyway to adjust the default text size on all the panels?

No, unfortunately not. This stuff is part of Adobe's specific UI libraries and cannot be changed. The main application menu should respect your settings though, as should file dialogs and a few text input fields, if that's any consolation. If possible, simply define a user preset in your graphics card settings that switches screeen resolution and system dpi when launching AE or any other Adobe app. Good monitors have good scaling chips, so it should not look all too shabby and you can always go back full res for pixel precision when needed...

  • After Effects CS3 - Text layer bugging, goes to upper corner always

    Hi!
I'm using AE cs3, it has worked fine but suthenly it started to do following...
When I create a new textlayer, put it wherever on the screen and type out my text, it insist on appearing in the left upper corner. After I created it, i move the bounding box around, scale it rotate etc, the text just keeps staying there, in the top left corner slightly outside, it doesnt respond to any transformation adjusting...
    ANNOYING...
But when I make the text layer 3d, it appears in the bounding box and is editable like normally... without 3d cam or anything. Have I by accident hit som weird switch or is it corrupted?

  • After Effects Editable text: Feature refinement request

Not sure if anyone else out there uses this relatively recent feature in Premiere?
Within AE, in your comp settings, there is a new check box to allow unlocked text layers to be editable within Premiere.
This is a great feature that seems inspired by the identical feature set in Apple's deceased Final Cut Studio- allowing Motion Projects to have text edited and then rendered directly within FCP.
One of my clients has a facility that migrated to CC 2 years ago, and the introduction of this feature in CC came none to soon for us- as we had become quite dependent on it for our all our show's packaging graphics, lower thirds/ name keys etc.
Anyhow- enough backstory already! I love this feature, but the inability to change font size, kerning etc is nearly a deal breaker. Instead I've had to make 3x the templates in AE, with small, med, large font sizes- but this does not give line by line control.
I'm hopeful that the great team over at Adobe can buff up this feature to its full potential- maybe if the idea generates enough traffic it will happen sooner than later?
Here is a feature request I just submitted today. Please do the same if you'd like this functionality asap!
[Bellow are some screen grabs from Premiere, and of the disturbed tomb of FCP7-RIP]
    *******Enhancement / FMR*********
Brief title for your desired feature:
AE Editable text: refinements to this great feature.
How would you like the feature to work?
Give the user in premiere broader control of the text layout. Font size is the #1 issue, but Kerning, tracking would be great too.
Why is this feature important to you?
I work at a facility that has utilized Apple's hugely successful FCP studio round tripping of Motion templates for all "Name Keys/ lower 3rds" and other video packaging elements. Having happily switched to CC, we've begun using the existing feature, but have issues building robust templates that can accommodate larger variation of character count. In FCP, we had font size, and tracking controls of motion templates with editable text enabled.
Great work on this feature! I'm just hoping to get more usefulness out of it

    I know right?
I just built an extra 4 AE templates to try and mitigate this issue, but its not a graceful solution   6 templates to maintain and update instead of two [ the right and left justified versions].
    Also in the process I found a little UI bug that would be great to solve 'while you're up' :}
When you enter a string of text that is 'too long', the text box breaks, and is very difficult to use.
Where I work, we are rolling out new graphics packaging for our broadcast series, and I'm pushing to use the AE text editing function to up our game graphics wise- even though I get the sense its going to bite me in the a$$ at some point- probably during a deadline :/
I'd love to have font size and tracking controls ASAP, SVP .

  • After effects text pixelated

    hi
for some reason type text are in after effects the text will become pixalted does anyone know how to fix this problem?
    thanks andy

I fixed my problem. The answer is sort of confusing so contact me if you have questions.
    Premeire problem -
I had slightly moved the text panels by simply clicking and dragging to a different position. They were graphics with a transparent background so I could simply grab and move it a hair to be in a better place asthetically in premiere. I had done this in CS4 and when exported it didn't have any effect on the quality. I figured out that if I clicked on the little fx icon next to the motion effect it would turn off the effect and move the object back to its original spot. Keep in mind this was just barely move any of these. For some reason after exporting I can now go back in and click it back on which moves it back and it looks fine like it did in CS4. This is a goofy problem. There must be enough of a difference between the two versions that you have to do any moving using the CS5. I was really pulling my hair out.
    AE problem -
I had the open GL previews selected and render simultaneous frames selected and it created a reduced resolution preview.
    My Players Problem -
All of my players were set to resize the video to the size of the screen on startup and since I am outputting to SD on a 28in. 1080p monitor it was looking pixilated in my players because it was just slightly too big.
The biggest part for me was that even though I was creating the text new in AE I was replacing existing footage in premeire which was keeping the original position settings which I had moved. I know this is probably confusing but I did find the answer to my problems.

  • How do you move text edited in After Effects into Final Cut Pro?

I edited text in After Effects and want to use it at the start of my movie which is in Final Cut Pro.
How do I export the After Effects editted text into FCP?
    I have FCP 7
    Thankyou

I suppose the way to do it is to export to Quicktime and import that into FCP X.
Use ProRes 4444 codec in order to preserve transparency (alpha channel).

  • Importing from premiere pro cs5 to after effects cs5

hi, can anyone help me with this problem?
im editing some stuff in premiere pro cs5 and when i import it into after effects cs5 for colour correction and other effects all the transitions that i had from premiere will disappear. if someone can guide me step by step to this process it will be very helpful
    Thanks,
    Randolph Azzopardi

As Mylenium suggests, there are many ways to move information between Premiere Pro and After Effects. They are all outlined on this page: "Working with After Effects and Premiere Pro"
You didn't specify, but I'll assume as he did that you are exporting a Premiere Pro project from After Effects. That works by converting things from native After Effects to their equivalents in Premiere Pro; sometimes there isn't a good equivalent, so the conversion isn't perfect. The same conversion is done as is done for copying and pasting between After Effects and Premiere Pro. There's a set of tables that describe the conversions here.
The way to get perfect fidelity is to either use Dynamic Link (as Mylenium suggested) or render and export a movie from After Effects and import that into Premiere Pro.

  • Get twitter feeds directly in After Effects compositions with Google Sheets

    Hey All,
I'm posting a follow up to a thread I started a while ago on this forum about seeking beta testers for a new plugin I started to develop, called Templater, for producing dynamic renders out of After Effects.  I want to thank all the beta testers out there who helped this product get some real legs.  We are very close to release and launch, and I am extremely grateful for all the AE users who have offered encouragement for the further development of this tool.
In light of that, I want to point the community to some screencasts I put together that demonstrates the real power of Templater:  inserting third-party API data into Google Sheets documents and feeding that directly into your AE project compositions.  For example, you can get Twitter data into the Google Sheet, then use that in your AE project.  You can also use Google Sheets' translation feature to easily localize text appearing in your compositions--even if those comps make use of super-awesome plugins like Element3D.
I've embedded those two screencasts here, but you can checkout DataClay's YouTube channel to learn more.
Thanks for your time watching these!

  • After Effects CC - Keylight

In After Effects CC, The Colour and Edge Wheel is missing in the Keylight.  The labels are there but no visual colour wheel, is there a switch that I need to turn on?

Hi Todd Kopriva, following are the details about my system:
    Macbook Pro Retina Mid'12
    2.6 GHz Intel Core i7
    16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
nVidia GeForce GT 650M PCIe 1 GB VRAM
    CUDA Driver: 5.0.61
    GPU Driver: 8.12.47 310.40.00.05f01
    OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.4
    After Effects CC 12.0.0.404
Like I said, the Color Wheel for Color Correction parameter inside Keyligh does not show up. It's there although but lacks the image reference. I noticed I can click and drag and the colors would change in the final image, but I can't see any visual aid (the color wheel itself).

  • Transitions with After Effects CS3

    Hi all,
I have Production Studio CS3 Premium. I have created an intro inside After Effects, using texts and a still image. It lasts for 12 seconds. I have rendered the intro and imported it into Premiere. I am now trying to add transitions (cross dissolve) at the end of the intro, but for some reason Premiere will not allow me to do so. I am trying the cross dissolve inbetween the intro and the start of a still image (50/50.).  Also tried other transitions but will not work. The transitions only work at the start or at the end of the intro, but will not overlap onto the next image.
    Thank you

yikes...  I just deleted every single editing thing on my hard drives...to prepare for this red camera test stuff.. and music video...so have like NO samples left anymore...of anything...but I recall having trouble doing a transition in the "middle" of two "clips" ...where it wanted to jump to the left clip or right, but not sit in the middle...using cs3....and I honestly dont remember now why that happened...but it might have been any number of things ...and thought maybe it was a still image on one side or something...
and it wasnt a matter of "duplicating frames" either..it just wouldnt go there...
so I did it manually...stack the clips and fade one out as I fade the other in...was easy solution...
sorry ...dont remember the exact reason it acted weird...the manual solution was the fastest solution.. I think Ann had some cool info about what was going on with my own samples...but still it wasn't "perfect"...just sorta explained what was going on maybe ???
    sorry...cant remember more

  • I want to animate the text colour from red to blue in after effects cs 6. please tell me how to do that

i am using adobe after effects cs 6
    intel core i3 3120 3.3ghz processor
    12gb ram
    nvidia geforce gt 630 graphics

Open up the text layer properties, add an animator>Fill Color, choose type, HUE usually works better for subtle changes but you can animate one or all color properties.  Set keyframes for range selector to change individual letters or words or color to change everything.

  • Feature Request - Editable Illustrator Text in After Effects

    Hello,
I would absolutely love it if I could convert text from Illustrator to editable text in After Effects. For most animated videos this is a pretty basic workflow that would help out so much. Right now the only solution appears to be having a "guide layer" of sorts with all your text on it, and then copying and pasting the text from AI to AE and then lining it up with the guide layer. Can be a very tedious process if you are working on a project with a lot of text. Most shots are designed in AI before going into AE which is why the text is already laid out.
    Thanks!
    Remington

Yes, we know that! But we are dealing with projects which have vast amounts of text and elements composed in Illustrator and increasingly InDesign. Maybe the key would be for Illustrator and Indesign to have a dedicated export function to AfterEffects. Not much to ask considering how many people around the planet use this workflow. I would pay for an AE script if it was available.

  • New to After Effects - need help with text manipulation!

Hi all, I'm new to AE and this forum and I'm looking for some advice. I've been asked by the boss at work to create a short video clip, around 10-15 seconds, where text is displayed on the screen (3 words), after the few seconds, I want a 'forging' noise to happen and the final word in the text to be changed to another word and have a metallic effect applied, similar to the effect in this tutorial:
Create Hot Metallic Text in After Effects - After Effects - macProVideo.com Hub
Will this be difficult to do and do you guys think a complete beginner like myself can do it? I've got a lot of experience with the likes of PS, so I'm not too shy with Adobe software.
    Thanks,
    John

    johnster1991 wrote:
Thanks for the advice, I appreciate it. So will it be difficult to have one word of text come onto the screen and overlay on top of the existing text, as if it's crashing over it? Any ideas on the steps I would use to do this? Thanks
As you begin your career of using AE, you will change your vocabulary. Overlay will be replaced with spatial references like in front or behind.
Designing text with surface styles like chrome or metal is not difficult. You can even import them from Photoshop if you have some PS chops or friends who can do it quickly.
TEXT ONE can be easily replaced with TEXT TWO in any of dozens of different ways but to drop TWO in front of ONE is easy, you're just setting position keyframes. The finesse of animation, though, lies in the illusion of motion, exaggeration, overshooting and recoil. Your TWO could fall and squish and rebound and bounce or it could raise a dust cloud as it hits or it could make the camera wiggle. These are the things that separate simple key framing from animation and motion graphics.
