After Effects 6 in Mac OS 10.5.8

I really did search a while before submitting such a mundane question to this forum, but I haven't been able to find this answer anywhere. I've got an old copy of AE 6 that I haven't loaded on a computer in several years. I'd like to run it now, but don't know whether it is compatible with my system and OS.
It's AE 6.0 and I'm running Mac OS X.5.8 on a Mac Pro 2 x 2.26 Quad-Core. Will this run?

After you install AE get the info on the application by control clicking on the AE6 icon in the finder. You'll see a check box in the info palette that says something like run in Rosetta. Check that and launch the app.
If this is a clean install you won't have any of the updates for AE6 on your machine so there may be other issues. You can check for updates under the support menu right here. Just search for After Effects. You'll find them here. I don't remember if the 6.5 update was free or paid.

Element 3d renders using your graphics card. Unlike After Effects, what GPU you're using matters a lot for Element.
As it is, you don't really have one.
You could try rendering an image sequence and then picking up your render where it left off when it crashes, but if a certain frame is just too much for your computer to handle, there's not much we can help with. I'd suggest adding a GPU that Element can use.

You can edit the keyboard shortcuts file, which is in the same folder as the preferences files. You can open that folder using the Reveal Preferences button at the bottom of the General pane of the Preferences dialog box.

"Installer Failed To Initialize"? After Effects CS5 Mac, Help!!!

I'm in serious need of some help here. I downloaded the After Effects CS5 trial, but when I go and try to install it I get an error:
"Installer Failed To Initialize. Please Download Adobe Support Advisor To Detect The Problem"
I already tried Adobe Support Advisor, but it didn't detect any problems.
I tried re-downloading the file again, but still no luck.
I'm running an iMac with Mac OS X 10.6.2, Intel Core 2 Duo Processor.
Can anyone please help me?

Hi. I see this thread is old...last post is july 2010. However, since I just had a similar issue and since a google search brought me here, i figure id share my info with other who my hit this too...
i have os x 10.7 and am trying to install cs5.5 master collection. i kept getting the installer failed to initialize error.
by looking at the PDApp.log, i saw an error and fixed the issue causing the error...
my issue was when launching Install.app, it looks for ~/Applications and creates a folder "Adobe" in it. I had an alias in my home dir and the log showed the installer didnt see it as a valid directory.
by removing the alias, the installer then created the folder "~/Applications/Adobe" for me. However, since it created an empty folder named Applications, separate from the actual /Applications dir, this was not acceptible.
So, if i right click on /Applications and hit "Make alias" and move that to my home dir...same issue.
But, if i open Terminal.app and type "sudo ln -s /Applications" the seemingly same type of alias or "symbolic link" is created, but instead the installer see the dir as valid, and the install went flawlessly.

Unable to open After Effects CS4 Mac OS

I just downloaded some updates via Adobe updater and the After Effects update wouldn't install after 2 attempts. Now After Effects won't even open. I am issued a window that reads:
"check with the developer to make sure Adobe After Effects CS4 works with this version of Mac OS X. You may need to reinstall the application. Be sure to install any available updates for the application and MAC OS X."
How can this be if nothing has been changed? I have the CS4 Master Suite and I am going to waste a whole day reinstalling everything
Is there another option or will I have to begin the reinstall?

I am running version 10.6.6 and yes the software was working fine before the update. The thing that's most puzzling is the update failed to install. All the other Adobe programmes (Photoshop etc) work fine, After Effects is the only one experiencing problems.
I contacted technical support and they said to copy the file from the installation disc onto desktop and boot from there but that has not worked either. They are going to contact me tomorrow to see if everything went smoothly.
I will give the cleaner a try.

After Effects CS5 Mac says "Quicktime is not installed on this system, some components...

the error message is "QuickTime is not installed on this system, some components will not work correctly."
And when I open After Effects CS5 on MacPro 2 x 2.26 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon with 16GB of 1066 MHz DDR3 running 10.6.3, it is basically not functionaly, because it will not open any quicktime movies without an error message.
Quicktime is installed on this mac.
I have run permissions and run diskwarrior, and it has not solved this problem.
Any ideas?

There are a few things that cause After Effects to report that QuickTime is not installed.
One is the obvious one: If QuickTime 7.x is not installed, After Effects will report that QuickTime is not installed.
The next most common reason is quite different: The TCP communication with the QuickTime server is blocked, so After Effects thinks that QuickTime isn't there at all. The fix for this to remove the blockage in communication. Sometimes the blockage is because of an aggressive firewall program, which sees the TCP communication and stops it. If this is the case, then you can either turn the firewall software off or specifically allow the QT32 Server component to communicate; instructions for letting a specific process communicate are different for each firewall program, so you'll have to look in the documentation for your security software for information about doing that. Another reason is that QuickTime can fail to initialize fully because it gets stuck loading a badly written importer component. After Effects for Mac OS X 10.10.1

I'm looking for a version of AE for Mac OS X Yosemite (10.10.1). The only version I could find said that it was not supported for my Mac. Also, when I try to install it from the official Adobe website, it never downloads. If someone could help me, I would be very thankful!

Today I ran into these problems:
1) I tried to download After Effects CC, and it never 'worked out'. because the following:
2) The 'Application Manager' I used to have before, hanging over from top should show me:
~ All the CS6 or CC applications, that i can 'update' or 'Install'. But this 'Apps' panel is simply turning the 'clocks' forever! It's like not 'connecting thru' or failed to reach Creative Cloud Apps!
3) The 'Creative Cloud Installer.dmg' file I downloaded never Open Correctly to reach 'the above panel' either (automatically open 'Apps' and users can update or install.)
So:
3) I used "Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool" to Erase Both: the Application Manger, and the Creative Cloud Installer. Then RESTART! and SAME RESULT: The 'Apps' Tab is not showing anything; and I can't exit.
The 'Quit' button is also grey out.
What Am I Getting into? How to further install or update anything~ either CS6 or CC Apps?
I had everything worked great, in tune before..... before I had this new Creative Cloud Installer.
The error message I ran into:
~ Another version of 'Creative Cloud' is already running, you need to quit (close) that in order to run this one. (something like this ....)
~ AE, InDesign, Flash.... all failed to install/update. Because it asked me to:
***Uninstall & reinstall". I did try with 'Uninstall', didn't remove all contents. So I used 'Cleaner Tool'.
After all these trouble and steps, not WORKING! I feel it's simply hanging in the process of reaching Creative Cloud Apps.
Important Reference:
*CS6 Apps are currently okay on this Macpro..... since I haven't 'upgraded' my Mac OS to Yosemite.
I'M STILL RUNNING 10.8.5 MOUNTAIN LION. I need to keep other Mac Apps like Final Cut Pro & plugs running smoothly. So I just don't want to upgrade this major working MacPro (2012, 2.7GHz, Corei7)
The other Mac (iMac~ 2.9GHz, i5) had things installed and run okay, which upgraded to Yosemite. And run the entire CS6 and AE (CC), PHOTOPHSOP (CC), without problems so far. But that is a 2nd working mac.
I did check 'firewall' (is off), and use physical cable/line connection to the web; not wifi.
Ah! A HORRIBLE & FRUSTRATING DAY!!!!!! NO WORK DONE.

After Effects CS5 Mac crashes on launch with a warning

I get the following error message: After Effects Warning: Could not rename the file '/Users/jonahlee/Library?Preferences/Adobe/After Effects/10.0/Worspaces.9216.1407350837851841.xml' to workspaces.xml'.
The strange thing is that the file does not seem to exist. I even checked that directory with the terminal. I have run permissions and restarted, and I am still getting this message. Anyone hae any ideas.
My computer is a MacPro 2 x 2.26 GHz Quad-Core Interl Xeon with 16 GB of 1066 MHz DDR3 Ram running 10.6.3 so that should not be an issue.

I manually set the read/write permissions to all folders and files inside the user/Library/Preferences/Adobe/After Effects/10.0 directory to read and write for Everyone. I also created a Workspaces.xml file, this got me through the launch sequence.
However it still reports that QT is not installed. This is now on 10.6.3 with both QT X and QT 7.6.6 Pro installed.
When I look at the output module templates most are missing, even RAM Preview is unavailable, presumably since it uses QuickTime on the Mac.
Looks like Premiere Pro CS5 is also affected, just tried to launch Premiere and its hung (now 4 minutes and counting) at "LoadingImportQuickTime.bundle".
I have the CS5 Master Collection and rarely use Premiere but it must use the same 32 to 64 bit interpretation of QT to make it work.
Update: Premiere launched after 7 minutes. All appeared normal until I imported a QuickTime file (one of the free Artbeats clips). I got an error message reading "The file has no audio or video streams." Cool :/

After Effects Presets Mac

Uhm i have have a question: I just made a new admin account on Mac OSX. But after i did that, i tried opening After Effects and got something about license and restart, so i restarted. But it didn't work, so i reinstalled After Effects and i could open it as normal. BUT now i can't find the Presets folder in /Applications/After Effects/. I tried looking in documents but didn't find an adobe folder there either. I REALLY need a Presets folder so that i can add my VideoCoPilot .ffx files in there. PLEASE HELP

I don't actually know if i did a correct uninstall. I just double clicked the "Uninstall" and wrote in my Username and Password. Then it didn't like start opening a script or something, so i just restarted my computer, and when i looked in /Programs, After Effects wern't there. Another thing that is killing me is that if i go into After Effects and go to Effects and Presets and right-click and select "Browse Effects and Presets" or something, it don't open Bridge and let's me find text effects. Now after i tried looking in the directories and if it isn't another way i'll have to format my harddrive. That's how important my After Effects Presets are. :/

After Effects PC/Mac kompatibel?

hallo, bräuchte dringend eine antwort auf die frage, ob after effects dateien, die mit der pc-version erstellt wurden, generell auf der mac-version laufen.
habe kürzlich versucht, eine pc-datei, die mit after effects 7.0 pro erstellt wurde, auf dem mac zu öffnen, was nicht geklappt hat. dort lag allerdings nur version 6.5 vor.
wenn ich allerdings eine 6.5 version auch auf dem pc benutzen würde, müsste es klappen, oder? kann es leider momentan nicht selbst ausprobieren.
werde eine animation auf der pc-version erstellen und später in der mac-version rendern.

you mean you have a pc serial number, not a mac.?
if so, other than upgrading to cc, there's nothing via adobe you can do to get a mac serial number.

After Effects on Mac

i've a problem. i've installed the same Adobe after effects on my macbook and on a mac pro.
the difference is that once i open the program with the mac pro there's no problem. but when i run on my macbook
there's a font problem (Unable to create font).
i've got the verdana font.i've installed on my macbook but still not working
how come? since is the same product ?

Adobe After Effects on Mac renders too slow

In one of the mac pro machines with 24GB RAM, Adobe after effects utilizes only 6% RAM during renders. we changed its preference settings too but still same status. Could any body suggest how to increase RAM utilization in Adobe AE 10.0 renders on Mac.

After Effects builds a frame at a time with the elements that are in that frame. Particle generators take more memory, but an HD Video Frame is only so big. You can't force the app to use more memory than is required for the frame that is being processed. CPU usage is another thing to consider. The more number crunching there is to be done the more cpu power is required. Some rendering operations don't require a lot of CPU power so not much is used. Then there's multi-processing. Only a hand full of plug-ins from third party developers are MP aware so you don't get that much help there.
Here's another thing to consider. The ram usage reported by AE is only the ram that is being utilized to process that frame. If you use up 100% of the ram rendering what is going to be left to store frames for playback?
The key to faster renders is to maximimize the data path to write the data and to minimize the unused data caused by scaling huge assets down to fit into a video frame. Until the basic way a video frame is digested and processed in AE you are not going to see full usage of all of your machine assets while processing video.

After Effects on mac error message, Disk Cache, can't do anything (CS6)

Everytime when I open my After Effects, the render window opens up and an error about the Disk - Cache appears.
I own the version 11.0.4.2 for CS6.
I cleared the DC already, I do have enough available Disk space, but I cant do anything.
All I can do is to open up the preferences Window and change Settings.
I can't do nothing in the rest of the menu bar (for example open up a new composition).
(I'm sorry for my english, my motherlanguage is german)
I would be very happy if you could help me with my problem!

Two questions for After Effects CS5 Mac

Hello, (new to AE)
I am trying to figure out why my "make movie" export is smaller than the composition I created. My comp settings are 1280 x 720 and my compostion window is at 100%. My output settings are also locked at 1280 x 720. However when I export it and watch it it is a lot smaller in the Quicktme Player player which is 640 x 360. I don't know where 640 x 360 came from. See images. I am not sure how to figure out what size I should make something in After Effects so it looks the same size when exported. I mainly am using this for web.
The second issue is that when I do a Full RAM preview for this (6 secs long). It never finishes it. It stops a coupple of second short everytime. I don't have ths probem when I Ram preview it at a lower resolution.

Yes, that's why it's called RAM preview - you only have so much of it and eventuall you will run out. Read: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/424030?tstart=0
I am not sure how to figure out what size I should make something in After Effects so it looks the same size when exported.
Nothing to figure out, you are just pushing the wrong buttons/ using wrong settings. 100% user error. AE by itself does not resize anything unless you tell it to which can happen
a) by setting resolution in the render settings to half (which often happens by using the "Current Settings" option while your comp is zoomed to 50%)
b) likewise, using the crop and stretch in the render settings
c) picking a format/ CoDec that is constrained, i.e. only works with fixed sizes and resolutions
Otherwise everything is left as it is in the comp. I suggest you do some serious reading up on render settings and output modules on the help.
