After Effects 7.0 on VISTA

Hello,
I am following a conversation with the technical support of Adobe.
I have just changed my computer and it is optimized for Windows Vista. At this time it runs on XP, and I encounter some problems with the graphics card and WiFi card.
My questions are:
- Does among you, somebody has already installed After Effects 7.0 with Vista (I have the Production Studio Premium Creative Suite)?
- If yes, have you encountered any problems?

Je viens de changer d'ordinateur et ce dernier est optimisé pour Windows Vista. Bien qu'en ce moment il tourne sous XP, je rencontre quelques petits soucis avec la carte graphique et la carte Wifi.
Mes questions sont les suivantes :
- Est-ce que parmi vous, quelqu'un a-t-il déjà installé After Effects 7.0 sous VISTA (je possède la suite Production Studio Premium) ?

Bonjour Olivier, apart from the importing issues David mentioned (which do not occur regularly and thus are somewhat unpredictable), you will not be able to run your version of AE in a different language than the operating system. When you select e.g. English on a French system, you will end up with a mishmash of languages that's confusing (for instance Expression controls will use French names, but function as if they were Englisch). If it's of any relevance - AE7 will not be able to detect OpenGL in most cases - either the driver is being protected by the system so AE can't probe it properly or it will return different values and version info than the one AE expects. I can only chime in with David and recommend to upgrade to CS3.

Problems with After Effects/Premiere CS3 in Vista

I have read through a bundle of solutions to this problem and haven't found anything that has worked yet. I ran After Effects and Premiere Pro on Vista up until two days ago when it refused to open. When I try to open Premiere, it gives the message "Sorry, a serious error has occurred that requires Adobe Premiere Pro to shut down. We will attemp to save your current project." When I tryo to open After Effects, the firts try does nothing. The second attempt will open After Effects, but all interfaces are missing and all the dropdown menus are grayed out. When I close it, it says After Effects has crashed, contact support, error 0:42. I have uninstalled/deactivated and reinstalled, run codec sniper, removed xmi preference settings and nothing works. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Did you run the CS3 Clean Script? If not, please do so before attempting any reinstalls. More info on such stuff here and here.

After Effects doesn't start (Vista)

Hello Community,
since yesterday my After Effects doesn't work anymore. I rendered a file and after some hours I stopped. I didn't shut my PC off, but I left for some hours. When I came back AE didn't start anymore. I just got the error message. It says that AE can't proceed anymore: an error occured while starting the application.
I googled a lot for a solution. I read a lot about the preferences. I tried to hit ctrl+alt+shift when I started AE with no success. I found the preferences file and deleted it, but I still got the error.
Today I reinstalled AE. But it didn't solve the problem. The were no error message anymore, just the standard windows error sound occured. After that I reinstalled all my Adobe applications, but Illustrator, Photoshop and especially AE still don't work. I have no problems with Bridge.
I also installed the 9.0.2 Update for AE, but after that just the the error message occured again when I start AE.
I don't know what else I can do?! I really need your help. Thanks

After Effect 5.5 and Vista 32

Hello. I searched for a thread about compatibility of Windows Vista and AF 5.5. The result brought me nothing...... So please let me submit this question. I know 5.5 is an old version, but that's all I have...... My XP has crashed..., so I do not have XP anymore..... If you are using AF 5.5 (or even older version than that)in Vista 32, please let me know. Thanks.

Well, if you can get it to install, it might work to some extent, but it will certainly require some manual intervention. You might need to turn off some of the visual effects in Vista and you may only be able to run it with full administrative priviliges. You may still get drawing errors and "locked" panels (panels can't be moved or resized) I also tend to think that you will encounter some not so minor issues using Quicktime and other file formats. Ultimately because of this it may not be worth the effort at all. Never tried 5.5, but while I was able to get 6.5 and 7 running on Vista, they are not really usable. It is as it stands: CS3 is the only version qualified for Vista.

Problem installing trial version of After Effects CS4

Hi,
I'm trying to install the trial version of After Effects CS4 on Windows Vista Ultimate Service Pack 1 32-bit Operating System, Processor 2.4GHz, RAM 4GB.
At the initializing stage it gets to 90% on the 'Checking System Profile...' dialog box, something flashes and then it freezes.
I've downloaded it a second time in case of corruption.
I've rebooted several times and retried it with no other applications running.
I've run updates on any existing adobe products I have.
Any ideas? I've never had problems installing adobe products before.

Not your fault, known issue.
a) Download the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility and install it
b) Download the CS4 Cleanup Utility from Adobe's support pages
c) Run the CS4 Cleanup, electing to remove all debris from your failed install
d) Manually uninstall all instances of Adobe AIR products (Acrobat.com, Adobe Media Palyer) using Add or Remove Programs
e) Launch the Microsoft Installer Cleanup and look for instances of Adobe Installer 2.0. Have them removed. Optionally, have it remove other Adobe stuff that may have been left over from CS4.
f) Try to install CS4
Note: The cleanup utilities will not remove anything physically, only clean out the installer, so they pose no danger to your system. You will only lose the ability to uninstall those programs from Add or Remove Programs.

Can't install After Effects trial but can install other Adobe programs?

I've been trying to download the After Effects trial on my Vista for the past two hours to no avail, with "Error 107". I've tried the troubleshooting on your website, following "Solution 1", clearing cookies, deleting files, trying the download through Chrome AND Internet Explorer, the good old restart the computer, saving the Download Assistant in multiple locations, and NOTHING worked. So I tried seeing if this was the case for all Adobe programs, and every other one works perfectly through the ADA. The problem seems to lie within the After Effects. What's going on and how can I solve this?

Do you have a 64-bit version of Vista?
You cannot install or run After Effects CS5/5.5 on any of the following operating systems:
32-bit and 64-bit editions of Windows XP Home or Professional
32-bit editions of Windows Vista Home Basic, Home Premium, Business, Ultimate, or Enterprise
32-bit editions of Windows 7 Starter, Home Premium, Professional, or Ultimate

hey guys okay when i go onto adobe after effects and i go new composition it just makes a sound liek a windows sound then crashes, why is this happening is thier a soloution. thank you

After Effects CS4 ram preview slow start-up (8 core)

Hi,
I have an Intel 8core PC and I'm working with After Effects CS4 on Windows Vista 64 bit.
When I press on ram preview the CPU usage has a slow startup till 100%.. Is this common or? Cause it takes a while till it really uses the CPU of 100%.. so it has a delay..

I have a similar system. 2 AMD Opeteron 2.3gb quad processors, 8 gb of RAM, Quadro FX5600 video card. I had called Adobe support about how slow my new system was compared to the old system that had a dual core Intel with CS3 and Win XP Pro. Here is the problem:
On the new 64 bit architecture, After Effects CS4 is still a 32 bit program but takes advantage of renders with the 64 bit OS by running After Effects on each core. If you only have 8gb of Ram with 8 cores( like I do), After Effects is loading on to each core. This leaves 1 GB per core to run the OS and After Effects. He told me what I need to do is (1) eliminate half the cores or (2) load the system up with 32 Gb of Ram. I'm currently order more Ram memory but have disabled all but 2 cores in msconfig advanced tab. It working much better at this point. Still slow but not dragging. I've order another 16 Gb of ram and will replace the other old 8 gb of ram with another 16gb at a later date.

Adobe After Effects CS3 Crash help on Vista

I've installed and re installed After Effects about 5 times now and it keeps crashing when the splash screen pops up. The message "Adobe After Effects CS3 has stopped working." I found that the message comes up when its initializing Media Core. Here is the report from vista about the App Crash.

I used CS3 Clean script and followed all the instructions for "Bigger problem-solving tools" and "Other Tips & Tricks" on http://generalspecialist.com/2007/02/troubleshooting-after-effects-7.asp.
I'm still having the same problem but only StackHash_d742 is the problem none of the other extensions are showing up, after I attempt to run the program multiple times.
Is there a way to track this file down?

"Unable to create font" error when starting After Effects CS4 (Windows Vista)

Hi all
I have read a hundred posts about the "unable to create font" message that appears when running After Effects in both CS4 and CS5 versions.
On MAC, it seems that installing the Verdana fonts family is enough.
On my PC running Windows Vista, i tried unsuccessfully :
- uninstalled and reinstalled After Effects
- installed all the fonts of the Adobe Font Folio v11
- looked for the "AdobeFnt.lst" to delete it, found no such file in my whole hard drive
- changed my system language to English (USA)
Other CS4 softwares work.
What can i do?

Vista 32-bit + After Effects

Ok, so ive got Adobe After Effects 7. Whenever i open it, gay Vista (no offence xD) has to change Colour Scheme -.- therefore when i try to use the program my mouse pointer lags so the program is un-useable because i cant click anything. So just wondering if any has a solution

Sorry, AE7 is not officially supported on Vista. Therefore you basically will have to live with these oddities or upgrade. You might improve behavior by switching to an alternate theme (windows XP or Windows Classic) and playing with the program's compatibility settings, though.

How is running Vista(after effects) on the new G5?

I'm about to purchase the dual quad core 2.8ghz and I'm interested in adding Vista on it. Anyone who has this combination I like to hear their experiences. Does it run fast in general? Any potential problems?
I also may be using some graphic application softwares including after effects or 3D related stuff.
Any thoughts?

If you want to run Windows Vista inside/alongside OS X together, then a VM is fine but can limit performance and use of 8-cores and memory.
BootCamp Assistant helps install XP or Vista on the same drive as OS X to run natively.
Putting Vista on Mac Pro can be done just formatting another internal drive. Once it is running, there are Apple drivers on your Leopard DVD to add hardware layer support.
I prefer Fusion for virtualization then just went running Vista natively. Tricking XP to install and run on Macs does need help from Boot Camp. I started using Vista before BC existed, just install and go.

After Effects Freezes On Startup (Windows Vista 64-Bit)

I have been trying to get After Effects to work but it doesn't open. I have never opened it before. All the Computer Requirements check out. The loading screen for After Effects opens and all it says is "Initializing MediaCore." I saw another thread that said that if you closed "Adobe QT32 Server.exe" before opening After Effects, it should work, but I don't see that in the Task Manager. I assume that is because I am on a PC, not a Mac, but I mentioned it anyway, just in case. Please help! I have a project that I need done in two weeks but I need After Effects to finalize the project!

My version of After Effects is CS 5.5, the newest version. My system specs are as follows:
Processor: Intel Core 2 CPU 4400 @ 2GHz
Memory (RAM): 4.00
Operating System: 64-Bit
This is the only useful info I found under Control Panel => System.
What else do you need to know? Any more info I would be happy to provide.
Also, even though I have never opened it (and therefore never changed/saved the preferences), would deleting the preferences still help?
