After Effects CC crashes PC (BSOD) using Gradient Ramp effect

I've done it three times now to make sure, but whenever I make a solid layer and add the gradient ramp effect, and then change the color, it gives me a BSOD. I've had some BSOD issues while using AE for various reasons, and I've gone through solutions considering disk cache, Open GL rendering, multi-core processing, etc. I'm pretty sure I need to replace a piece of hardware, as each BSOD is indicating such, but I've had a hard time determining which. I should note that going to the color palette for something like text doesn't give this issue. So far it's been for the solid layer and gradient ramp. Note that I've also used other plugins, such as Element 3D and Keylight and such without a problem.
I recently signed up for CC so I haven't yet uninstalled CS6, and I'm doing that as I write this.
My computer is running 64-bit Windows 7, has updated drivers for PSU, ram tested healthy, GPU driver updated, and more. My RAM is 16 GB DDR3 1666 GHz, Processor is AMD Six-Core Phenom 2, GPU is Geforce 470 GTX, and I'm running standard 7200 rpm disk drives. I have intentions to update all of the hardware over time, so I'm wondering if maybe a switch to Intel or an updated GPU might be helpful.
Thanks!
Katie

  • BSOD when applying ramp effect in AE

    Hello everyone,
I have faced a strage error. When I apply ramp effect in AE and make any changes to it, BSOD happens. I can use AE and apply other effects without any problem. It happens only when I apply ramp effect.
What do you think can be the reason. Your comments highly appreciated. Thank you all in advance

First, thank you for your reply.
The configuration of my machine is:
CPU:                         AMD  Phenom II X6 1100T Black Edition
    Motherboard:             Asus M4A89TD-PRO/USB3
    RAM:                        DIMM DDR3 4096MBx3 PC12800 1600MHz Kingston HyperX Intel XMP CL9-9-9-27 [KHX1600C9D3K3/12GX] - 12GB

Power Supply:           Thermaltake EVO Blue 750 Watt
    OS:                         Windows 7 Ultimate x64
    After Effects:            CS5
The size of project does not matter. I open a new project, new composition, add solid, apply ramp, change any settings and BSOD appears. I disabled OpenGL in preferences but it did not help. I can work with large projects with other effects without any problem. It appear only with ramp effect.

Please rename the following two folders:
    %appdata%\com.adobe.AdobeMuseCC.2014.0

  • After effects instantly crashes while using opengl with nvidias new drivers 178.24

Since I installed nvidias new drivers 178.24, after effects instantly crashes while using opengl. Anyone else experienced this?
    I have Geforce 8600 GT.
As a minor note, I had major problems with the new quicktime 7.5.5 update, both After effects and Premiere got problems with interpreting footage and frames here and there got the "missing frame" look. I also got more problems so I uninstalled it instantly. Is there a major problem with the update or a major problem with me?
    Thanks
    / Olle

I use Vista (in retroperspective this was probably a mistake, but the company wanted to test the capabilities with Vista when we bought the computer a year ago). And specs are:

Sorry not to give more info on the Quicktime problem, I don't remember exactly what more problems there where as we have had extremely much to do these last couple of weeks and I just freaked out and uninstalled it as soon as the problems emerged. I do remember the frame issue however, it was very clear, i imported an image sequence in premiere and everything worked fine, then i updated and frames were suddenly dropped, then i uninstalled and installed 7.5 again and it worked just fine. I also tried to flush the cache, restart and generally search for the source of the problem for a couple of hours.

I've never had this problem before and hope that someone has a solution to this problem... if so please post an answer. I don't know if its because i put the plug in on all of my clips and then made an adjustment layer with another Magic Bullet Looks or if it's my clips fault but i just dont know what to do.
    -Tyler

It sounds like Looks is only crashing on this project. If that is so then it's most likely a problem with one of your video clips. Either there's a corrupted frame or some other codec glitch that's throwing the errors. I'd suggest replacing footage items with temporary footage. You could even use solids. Replace one at a time, then undo, until you find the footage that's causing the crash. Then either re-compress that footage to another codec or replace it.
If Looks is crashing on every type of footage then you need to pursue other options that are more system related.

  • After effects has crashed see error repor 1.   :41

hi okay on one of my computers i go to open after effects and it says after effects has crashed please see error report error 1 then later :41 then i go to uninstal it and it loads and stops it wont uninstal. please help.

how you doing guys, i hope you have solved your problem,if not this is how i solve it most of the time...
we all like fonts... alot.. sometimes we like it so much that we install every font we find kool, but after effects has a little bit of problem
caching most of those kool fonts ( i have 3,037 ).
what i did was booting my pc using HIREN'S BOOT CD in mini windows xp, download or if you have a backup of the basic xp fonts ( like me )
go to your windows folder in c: and cut and move the font folder to other drive and replace it with the basic one, reboot and voila! it worked
    hope it helps. ;-)

    Hi,
I'm not a 100% sure this is the right answer but here is thoughts on why After Effects is crashing on you. Its crashing because of you not having a good "graphic card" on your computer. So if you don't what you need to do to stop it from crashing is In the Composition panel of after effects (the main panel) there a "lighting bolt" icon  if you click on that icon to toggle it open you'll a menu & select this in the menu "Adaptive Resolution-OpenG1 Off" this will stop it from crashing it did for me. Hope this helps you or anybody else who may be having this problem....

  • After Effects error: crash occured when invoking...

I get this error: After Effects error: crash occured when invoking rendering plugin "AE_openGL" when I have videos on the timeline and I am scrolling through them.
I run Windows Prof 7, 2.67 gigahertz Intel Core i7 920 Multi-core (4 total), 12 GBs Ram, NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT (2x).  My system is fast.  I saw one suggestion to turn off openGL. How should I set up my preferences to avoid this?
    Thanks.

OpenGL should work even with SLI off. Yes, you lose some performance, but for AE's limited use of these features, it should be neglectible. If for some reason you still get crashes, then you may need to push a few otehr knobs and levers in the driver settings or install a new7 different driver right away. i just cannot offer you a blanket solution that would work from a distance. OpenGL settings are delicate, so you'll have to invest some time in your own experimentation...

  • After Effects error: crash occurred while invoking effect plug-in "particular"

Hi, I was trying to following the Kramer's tutorial "The Ring" in AFx (http://www.videocopilot.net/tutorials/the_ring/), that involves the use of Trapcode Particular, and all went well..
Then I've customized it, not drawing a circle, but a square, and after a while AFx started to crash very frequently reporting this message:
After Effects error: crash occurred while invoking effects plug in "particular"
this happens only when I work on the compositions with particular plug-in.
I'm working on my "old" iMac OSX version 10.4.11
2.33 GHz Intel Core 2 duo
    1 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
with CS3, open GL disabled (because not supported)
    thanks for any help!

I'm guessing that you're running out of RAM.
The system requirements state 2GB as a minimum (I know the page links to CS4, but it seems the CS3 one's aren't available).
Have you made sure to run all necessary updates?
I know you've been able to work with 1GB for awhile, but you've probably been pushing that envelope.
What are your comp specs (frame size, frame rate, etc...)?
Are you trying to view at full res, or lower?
Have you modified your RAM preferences?

Do Not Delete program files that have been installed with an installer. BAD idea. Use the uninstaller. If you have already made the mistake or the uninstaller will not work use the Adobe Cleaner Tool then re-install from the latest build.

  • After effects error: crash occured while invoking effect plug-in

Hey, im using after effects cs6 and everytime i try to change something to my shatter effect (or other effects, mostly shatter) i get the error: after effects error: crash occured while invoking effect plug-in. Please help

Well I only have version CS3, however I got the same error while trying to open Knoll Light Factory plug-in.  I tried several times and it never worked.  I searched and found a couple of 'fixes' but they didn't work (for me).
What did fix my problem, I looked inside the After Effects directory, specifically at C:\Adobe\Adobe After Effects CS3\Support Files\(PCI)\Setup\...  - inside this directory is the file 'Setup.exe'.  This setup file is the Adobe After Effects Third Party Content Installer.   I ran this setup file, after it finished doing it's thing, and without rebooting, I opened AE, loaded a project and went to Effects and the KLF plug-in.   I chose it and it opened perfectly without any glitches or errors.  I'm not saying it will work for everyone but it did for me. Not sure if there is any difference in versions as well, like I said, I'm using CS3.  I have since rebooted a couple of times and no problems with AE or the plug-ins (fingers-crossed).
