After Effects CC won't import short video files

I have a project with hundreds of h.264 videos, some of which are only 1 or 2 frames in length. When I try to import these short files, AE freezes and I have to force quit the application.
I have a project file created with an older version of After Effects with these files already imported, and AE CC can't open these files, and hangs whenever I access any comps with the files in them. This was not a problem with the previous version of AE, and I've temporarilly gotten around the issue by running a trial of AE CS 5.5, but I don't have a serial for it and the trial is going to expire soon. I'm not sure what the problem is. Is there a way to correct this problem?
I'm using macbook pro, with OS 10.9.2, and all Adobe CC software is up to date.

The same issue appears to happen when I try importing a small sampling of these files into Media Encoder. After dragging the files over, the program just beachballs, doesn't appear to be importing the files, and the program is not responding.

  • After Effects CS4 won't import my .wmv files i've created with Pinnacle Studio 11

not sure if anyone else is having this problem... and i'm a complete newbie with this program. When i import videos from my collection (ones that i have not modified with any other program, or random ones i've collected from online: avi, mpgeg, wmv,... etc.) they import perfectly and can manipulate them.
however, if i try to import a file i have created using my Pinnacle Studio 11 program (which outputted my files in .wmv), CS$ immediately crashes and kicks me out. i would just like to know if i can fix this problem

    >i would just like to know if i can fix this problem
You don't use WMV. ;-) Simple as that. You should avoid working with compressed formats wherever you can, as they will further degenerate with every step of processing and successive compression. For your specific problem, you will have to provide much more info, e.g. a snapshot of the export settings or description of same. It's quite imaginable that your software embeds metadata AE does not know how to use or the files are being protected with a DRM key specific to the program. could also simply be a matter of data rates and number of streams.... Just too many possibilities and while it's certain that they all can be adjusted, without further details giving you blindfold advise will serve no purpose.

After Effects CC: When I import .MOD video, the right side is cut off in the viewer. I've tried everything. Any suggestions?

I just started using After Effects, so I'm new to all of this. All I can find on the media player is "fit to window".

  • ITunes 11 won't import .mov video files from external hard drive but will from internal.

    Hi Everyone
I'm having a problem with iTunes 11.0.1. I can't import .mov video files stored on an external hard drive. I can however import .m4v files from the same external drive. Using either the add to library option or dragging files from the finder.
I can add .mov files from the internal though. Strange I know.
The reason behind this posting is that I'm using iFlicks to convert my TV and movies from my external drive for Apple TV and add all relevent meta data, keeping the files on the external drive and having iTunes link to them.
I would like to be able to simply create a general iTune compatiable file using iFlicks which only takes a minute or two per file to convert. I'm currently converting them to .m4v just for the sack of being able to import them into iTunes from an external drive takes 45 minutes per file.
Has anybody else had this problem? Any ideas on a fix to allow me to import .mov files from an external drive into iTunes without copying it to the iTune library file.
    Many Thanks
    Dave

This might be worth a shot - basically seeing if Vista permissions could be the culprit.
Give yourself FULL control and ownership of the exHD, let's call it M:
How to Take Ownership and Grant Permissions in Windows Vista
Take control of the top level folder and ALL subfolders.
Try creating a new blank ITL file on M: by pressing *and holding* the shift key while itunes starts. See if you can add everything again.

  • After Effects stops responding when importing larger video

Although this is likely a common topic, I've searched just about everywhere for an answer to this new problem I'm experiencing and I have had no luck.
Just recently, out of the blue, when I try to import larger (100+mb) quicktime videos into after effects the program stops responding and it doesn't give me an error message.  Smaller 2mb videos import without a problem but I can't even drag a large video into the comp without it closing down on me.  I've imported 400 rpf pictures in sequence which was 1gb and it worked fine but larger videos just shut it down.  I've tried the following:
    - adjusting my OpenGL settings.
    - removing my gl plugin
    - adjusting my texture memory
    - resetting preferences back to default
    - purged my image and video memory
    - cleared all the caches
    - re-installed quicktime and made sure it was the correct version
    - re-installed after effects (cs5.5) version 10.5.5.253
    - reduced resolution
    - swore loudly and cried uncontrolably
I have used this videos many times in the past without problem it just seems that all of a sudden the video is too big making the program shut down.
I'm on Windows 7 Intel quad core processor
    16gb ram
Grapics Card NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570 (4064mb ram)
I've checked the graphics card and I'm running the most up to date version.
I hope I have provided enough information.  I appreciate any help in advance.

Well, I'd back up all your data first, if you haven't already. You should be doing that all along anyway. (Don't forget things like Photoshop brushes, Animation presets, etc. in your Adobe folders.)
Alright, before we go crazy, I would Google around for instructions on how to completely remove K-Lite.
If, you follow that and it's still messing up, the second thing I would do is to uninstall all your Adobe software.
Then run the CS Cleaner Adobe provides on their website.
    Uninstall Quicktime.
Download and install a new version of Quicktime 7 (NOT Quicktime X).
And then reinstall your Creative Suite software.
If, after those steps, it still doesn't work, then you are going to have to go nuclear.
The first step is to back up all of your data. Documents, fonts, project files, stock footage libraries, music, animation presets, project templates, etc. Anything that you've added to the computer (except for programs).
Your computer either came with recovery disks or the ability to create them. Make the disks if you haven't already.
Put them in and reboot the machine. It should give you an option to wipe out everything and install a clean version of Windows. You will then have to reinstall your programs (NOT k-lite ) and put all your files back on the machine.

  • Bought a Quadro K2000 Video Card, After Effects CC Won't detect it?

I recently bought a Quadro K2000 for some simple 1080p video editing and rendering. Now there comes the problem, It seems like After Effects is not detecting the card, CUDA is enabled and the card is supported in the list. I have tried many solutions but unfortunately I still have this problem. Also with rendering a video my CPU still takes all the load instead of the GPU, therefore it goes really slow, 5 minute render takes up to 2+ hours. I bought this video card so my render also got quicker but it seems like After Effects just won't use the GPU for rendering. I have Ray tracing 3D rendering on.
Can someone please explain to me why my Quadro K2000 is not used for rendering the videos but instead it still uses my CPU. I hope the $500 was no waste of money for this card.
    Thanks in advance,
    Sjoerd

You have given us little information to go by. What exact version of After Effects? What operating system. Show a screenshot of your GPU Information dialog box in After Effects.
The Quadro K2000 was added to the list of cards tested and supported for use by the ray-traced 3D renderer in this version:

Why After Effects CC won´t let me import an .obj file as AE CS6? How could I solve this?
    Thanks.

Hi, it's been a long time. I'm sure it was something silly I was missing.  I'll be thinking about it, as soon as I remember I'll let you know.
Maybe if you tell me what kind of message is AE giving you or something would help me to remeber.

  • IPhoto won't import .mov video from iPhone

I just got my wife a new Mac mini.  It is running the latest versions of Mountain Lion and iPhoto.
She's recorded some short videos of the kids with her iPhone (4s), and wants to organize these in iPhoto alongside pictures of the kids (she's done this before).
However, since getting her new computer, when she tried to import the videos, she got an error message that said the files were an unrecognized format.
We were able to retrieve the videos and copy them to her hard drive using Image Capture; however, she would still like to import them to iPhoto.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks.

There are many, many posts of this nature in these forums.  See, for example:
    iphoto won’t import mov video
For many, rebuilding the XPC helper cache solves the problem off the bat. In terminal try this, and reboot:
    sudo /usr/libexec/xpchelper --rebuild-cache
The above posted by Andy Ball on a thread related to a similar problem with Aperture:
Re: Import video to Aperture library on Mountain Lion
    Other things to try:
    1. create a fresh iPhoto library and try that.  (hold down opt while launching iPhoto)
    2. create a new OS X user (in system preferences) and try there.
In my case – and many cases – neither of those things work either, which means the problem is system wide.  Again suggesting that the xpc helper solution might work. But for me it did not either.
There are other suggestions that there are conflicts with Perian (on Yosemite) and flip4mac.  In my case uninstalling both of those didn't solve it either.
So maybe one of those solutions will work for you, results apparently vary.  But this is a huge unresolved issue many others are having as well.  I have a case with a senior apple advisor open, still unresolved. His suggestion of course, at this point, is an archive and re-install. I'm not ready to go there yet.
BTW, another thing he had me try was to import the file with Image Capture (which works).  Then open it in QuickTime Player X.  Then try exporting to 480p.  Does QuickTime crash?  It does for me.
    My summary:
    1. Files successfully import with Image Player.
    2. Files play with QuickTime Player X.
    3. QuickTime Player X crashes when exporting to 480p.
    4. Files import with iMove.
    5. Files fail to import with iPhoto (unrecognized format as with OP)
    6. iPhoto import failure/errors are system wide and not specific to a library or a user.
    7. rebuilding xpchelper cache and rebooting in my case does not resolve issue.
    8. same videos import fine in iPhoto on a totally different system (laptop running same versions of OS X 10.10 and iPhoto 9.5.1)

  • After Effects error: Can't import file "(FILE TITTLE)" unsupported filetype or extension

Hello so I was working with AE3 for 2 years and i had no problems with it but.. when i reinstall my windows and install AE3 with same installation file as always i was using.. and  I got problem. When i try to import AVI or wmv or other video clips except mov format I getting this error "After Effects error: Can't import file "(FILE TITTLE)" unsupported filetype or extension".. i tried everything: 3 different installs of AE3 but nothing always same.. so decided this is windows problem so I installed new one  with SP3 but i got same problem then I tried it on SP2 but still same problem.. So i installed windows7 and my AE3 was working but i didn't liked a windows 7 and i back on xp SP3 and guess what guys? yes! i got same error again on AE3. I don't know guys what to do. Can you help me?

I assume that you mean "After Effects CS3". After Effects 3 came out more than a decade ago.
Do you have QuickTime Player installed? After Effects requires QuickTime to be installed to import some file types.
Could you be explicit about exaclty what files you have tried to import? Even giving file names might help. For example, this error has been seen when the characters used in the file name were non-standard characters (e.g., this thread).
When you re-installed Windows, did you also re-install any codecs that you may have previously had on the system?

  • After Effects CC crashing on importing PSD (ae.blitpipe error message)

    Hi guys,
I hope you can help me, Adobe Support couldn't so far.
I recently installed After Effects CC on my MacBook Pro 13" (2012), 16GB RAM, Mountain Lion 10.8.4.
I cannot import PSD files into AE. Everytime I try, it crashes with the following message:
Zuletzt protokollierte Meldung: <140735306359168> <ae.blitpipe> <2> Making New Context
It doesn't matter, what kind of PSD file I try to import. But to be sure, I created a new PSD file, 1920x1080, 72 dpi, RGB, just with a background, no effects, flattened, just that single background layer. It won't import, AE always crashes.
I'm also running After Effects CS3 on that MacBook. Importing PSD files there works perfectly here.
    I tried these troubleshooting procedures:
    - trashing preferences
    - uninstalling every single Adobe Product
    - cleaning with the Creative Suite Cleaning Tool
    - Reinstalling just After Effects CC (still wont import PSD files at this stage)
    - Reinstalling Photoshop Elements 11, creating a new PSD file, still doesn't work.
I don't know what else to do right now. I want to avoid reinstalling the whole operating system because I'm working on projects at the moment (with Final Cut Pro X).
    You have an idea?

  • ITunes 11 previously imported a video file, which I loaded on to my iPod Nano, but I removed the file from the iTunes library and now it won't (re-)import the same video. Any thoughts on why not?

iTunes 11 previously imported a video file, which I loaded on to my iPod Nano, but I removed the file from the iTunes library and now it won't (re-)import the same video.
I'm using 2 PCs, each with video files (.MP4) on their respective hard drives, and also one external drive with other video files on that I move between the two devices.
iTunes on one PC will (sometimes!) let me add video content from the external hard drive, which is clearly iTunes-compatible, because I can then copy it over to my iPod Nano. On the other PC, I couldn't load that same video from the external hard drive. But if I copied that same video on to the PC's internal hard drive first, then iTunes would let me import it. That was yesterday - now iTunes is refusing to load any files from the internal or external hard drive(s).
    Any thoughts or suggestions, please?

So I tried copying the files from the external hard drive to a USB drive. I could import the video files from the USB drive!
So then I tried importing the same files on to my PC's internal hard drive again. I could import the video files from the internal hard drive!
So then I tried to import the very same files that failed to load on the very same PC previously. I could now import them!
I still can't import from the external hard drive directly, though.
I really don't think I like the process of importing things into iTunes very much... any suggestions on what's causing any of this behaviour would be very interesting.

  • After Effects CC won't update

    Hi,
After Effects CC won't update on both my computers.
Every time I try to install the AE CC update, the installer asks me to close AdobeCrashDaemon to continue.
After quiting AdobeCrashDaemon and checking Activity Monitor to make sure it's not running, the installer keeps asking me to close AdobeCrashDaemon.
I hope you can help me.
    Thanks,
    Kristiaan

    Hi Jeff,
I checked the installation log file and found the error notice:
ERROR: DS015: Unable to read symlink target of source file "/Applications/Adobe After Effects CC/Adobe After Effects CC.app/Contents/Frameworks/mc_dec_amr.framework/mc_dec_amr"(Seq 4)
I opened the folder Applications/Adobe After Effects CC, and can't find the rest of the /After Effects CC.app/ etc. path inside it.
What would be the next step to solve this?
    Thanks,
    Kristiaan

  • Horrible final video quality in After Effects CS6 when rendering a 1920x1080 video with H.264 format

I've been using After Effects CS6 on my Macbook Pro for over a year now with no issues. However, today when I exported a video to be rendered in 1920x1080p with H.264 format, I got the worst quality final video I've ever seen. I filmed my video files in 1920x1080p (like usual), and I clicked all the same buttons I normally do to export a video, but every HQ video I try to export looks horrible. I haven't clicked any crazy buttons or anything out of the ordinary.
I always export a video following this sequence:
File > Export > Add to Render Queue > Lossless > H.264 (quality format) > video output (make sure it's checked) > audio output (make sure it's checked) > OK > Output to Desktop
My render settings are always set as "best settings" including "full" resolution and "best" quality.
Now, when I click H.264, a "settings mismatch" pops up and says:
"Warning: Output file will be resized from 1920x1080 (1.00 PAR) to 320x1080 (6.00 PAR) to meet format constraints"
The rendering quality and playback quality within After Effects is great, but once the video is exported, it is horrible.
PLEASE HELP?! I have deadlines I need to meet!

Use the H.264 encoding presets in Adobe Media Encoder.
The H.264 export features in After Effects have been removed in later versions because of numerous problems.
