After Effects CC2014 cannot launch

If anyone can assist with this I would be grateful. I have subscribed to Creative Cloud and have installed a variety of programs. One of these - After Effects - will not open. Rather I witness the following message when trying to do so:
After Effects warning: Could not create the file '/Users/user/Library/Preferences/Adobe/After Effects/13.2/dummy'.
Any ideas on how to troubleshoot this?

Attempted to install update manually but rcvd error listed below. Admin is not suppressing updates, I can confirm as I am the admin. Also, other apps update without issue.

We use intel mac pro as workstation, and our servers are windows 2003 servers.
After Effect cs4 H264 render on network without any problem bud jpeg not.

Perhaps you must just enable the Allow Encoding using Legacy CoDecs option in the Quicktime control panel on the network machine or else some of that may not show up. Of course make sure QT is installed correctly in teh first place, as Todd and Rick said. On a server, you may need to set special group policies for that to work, also.

Adobe After Effects CS6 cannot be opened because of a problem

Hi,
Sorry if I'm posting in the wrong place - I can't find sections navigation on these forums.
Running Mac OSX 10.8.5
I tried uninstalling AE CS6 and then reinstalling AE CS6 - same issue happened.
AE was working fine until I tried to open it today. It's probably been a couple weeks since I last used it.
I don't know if I'm able to get any help here. It' just an issue I don't know how to troubleshoot.

I am trying to follow your advice and install AE CS6 through the Creative Cloud application, but it seems that I can only install AE CC through the Creative Cloud application.
The text on this page ( http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/install-cc-and-cs6-apps.html ) seems to indicate that I can choose a version to download, but when I navigate to the linked download page ( https://creative.adobe.com/products/aftereffects ), I am not given the option to choose which version to download. I can only download AE CC through Creative Cloud.
Below is a screencap of what I see when I am on the download page - this differs from the screencap shown as an example on the page instructing me to go there.

Error Opening After Effects CS3 - cannot load AERes1.dll

Hello,
When I try to open After effects I get this Error "cannot load AERes1.DLL"
I tried to reinstall after effects and it didnt dfix the problem.
I uninstalled the entire Master collection CS3 and reinstalled and the problem didnt solve.
I could open After Effects in the past.
Any suggestions?

OK so this is how I solved the problem if anyone encounter it ever again...
Uninstalling and reinstalling the CS3 won't help.
The problem happens probably because of quicktime installed prior to the CS3 updates. I didnt try to remove quicktime. I formatted my PC and luckly I had an image of my c: drive from the time I installed the cs3 and prior to the time I installed Quicktime. So I made all Adobe Cs3 updates first and only than installed Quicktime.
Now After Effects works.
If anyone finds a way to solve this without formatting c: drive, let me know.

After Effects won't launch fully

I recently purchased the Master Collection of CS4 I did custom install and only unticked one or two of the main programs included. When I go to launch After Effects the load screen runs then stops after 2 seconds and then it has that error noise for Windows but no message. Fireworks is unable to launch as well for me (but actually has an error message) and I wasn't sure if that was related. I have Windows Xp. And I've been reading around seeing that people were saying to get an update but I don't have a Mac so I wasn't sure if I needed that. Right now I'm uninstalling and see if I reinstall without the custom install if it works, but it just takes forever to install and I only need the programs I unticked on another laptop.

Computer? Graphics card? Does your XP have all the service packs and other updates? Also, believe it or not, the updates do fix a number of things on PCs, too, so install them.

Quicktime errors after effects cc2014

i've been getting quicktime errors in after effects cc14, windows 8.1, update 1. when importing a quicktime file that opens and plays in vlc, and quicktime player, i'm getting the error "After Effects error: file 'xxx.mov" cannot be imported this .mov file is damaged or unsupported. i've uninstalled quicktime and reinstalled to no avail.

Does AE CC work? (I mean, you're using version 13. Does version 12 work?)

After update, I cannot launch any browsers[SOLVED]

I've updated today my kde 4 desktop and now, I cannot launch any of my browsers.
Command line launch gives me this message:
[mak@myhost ~]$ firefox

When I try to launch chromium, I get this message:
[mak@myhost ~]$ chromium-browser

Any idea fixing this error?
Oh, and one more thing, when I try to restart the system hangs. I had to use the reset button.

On a separate partition, I also run the exact same system but with xfce. The update doesn't seem to be effected the that desktop.

After Effects cc2014 presets to early version

Hello!
I made presets in AE СС2014 in Windows. I sent them to a friend. He have AE CS5 and Mac OS. He place them to Applications/Adobe After Effects CS5/Presets and to Documents/Adobe/After Effects CC.
Reload AE and did not see the presets in the panel Effects&Presets->Animation Presets->Presets... or in Effects&Presets->Animation Presets->User Presets...
Is it impossible to open the presets in earlier versions? And if on the Mac OS will be installed СС2014 everything will be okay?

Animation presets are not backwards-compatible. You can't use an animation preset created with a new version of After Effects in an old version of After Effects.

After Effects Won't Launch

I downloaded a Creative Cloud Trial. Ready to begin using AE CC2014 it wouldn't launch on my PC that meets all specs. I restarted my computer, contacted support to which I lent my computer screen to who after doing several things I'd already done told me the file was corrupted and that I should uninstall and reinstall and restart my computer. I took the time to do that --again, and it still won't launch...any help here for getting it to launch. When I click on AE, it simply spins for about 4 seconds then stops. HELP!

You are losing yourself in vagueries. "My PC meets all specs" How should anyone tell you anything and verify this without exact system info? The rest we can't know, either, since you haven't provided any details from your crash logs or the Creative Cloud logs.

Video from after effects doesn't launch after publishing flash catalyst project

I created a website in flash catalyst. I used a video that i made in after affects as the intro to the site. When I run the project in the flash catalyst everything works fine, but when I publish it for deploying to the web and run the .swf file nothing happens. Does anyone knows what can be the problem?

You can't see the video because your'e running the .swf generated for Deploy-to-web folder. You have to upload the Deploy-to-web folder content to your web server and it will run fine. (same happened to me once)
You can only see the intro video in your machine by clicking in the .swf in the Run Local folder.
Its happen because the video you've created is not embeded in the main.swf.

How can I add a gradient to the opacity of a layer in After Effects CC2014?

I'm looking to create a simple gradient across a map such that the left of the map is transparent and the right is opaque. Any help is appreciated.

If the map is a single layer. you can also use an mask and feathering to accomplish the same thing in a single layer.
It depends on the project at hand, and what you need to do in it.

Yes. I can download a $5 rental movie from iTunes that's 3 or 4 GBs in less than half an hour, but thousands of dollars worth of Adobe software around the same size takes days. I don't know if it's just unusual high load, or lack of international mirrors, but Adobe really need to sort that out! I'm working on a AE project and shut the project down before going to lunch. I come back and open it up and I get this error:

Nothing had changed in my project since earlier today. I've tried to import other .mov's and get the same error, I've also tried to relink the footage.
Any thoughts?

Issue with After Effects dynamic link CC2014

Hi guys,
I'm french user and i got an issue using dynamic link between after Effects CC2014 and Première Pro CC2014.
I´m importing via dynamic link my PP sequence in AE. Import is OK but i'm unable to put the sequence into a comp !
If i´m using PP to send a sequence into a AE comp, AE breaks and displays " After Effects error : strange situation. "
Anybody knows what happens ?
Desinstall / reinstall but nothing changes.
Please help me. Thank you guys !

It would help us to know what kind of system you are using and what type of footage. PPro will work on some types of footage that AE has a problem with. Have you followed this exact workflow before? Did this workflow work in previous versions of After Effects and Premiere Pro?
