After Effects Comp fps settings

Hi,
I have shot some 240 fps footage and When I import it ot After Effects, I have notices that the fastest the Comp can use is 99 fps which makes the footage render our at 2.5 times slower than realtime.
Is there a solution to this as I would like some o fthe footage ot be real time and then some at slow speed.
Are there any plans for future releases to allow users to increase the fps settings of the Comp from the max of 99 fps?
It would make editing much easier.

Some food for thought:
http://myleniumblog.com/2013/01/20/decapitated-cap/
Based on that, you will realize that "realtime" is a rather relative term. Even if AE was able to play each discrete frame exactly timed, your computer screen might still be set at 60 fps or something like that and you never would see certain frames. Therefore you can pretty much achieve what you want just using a 60 fps comp or similar. The only caveat is that in order to determine the sampling interval you will have to re-interpret your footage similarly so AE actually shows you each frame and then use time-remapping/ stretching with equal multiples to get it back to full "240 fps". Or in simpler words: Interpret your footage as 60fps, set your comp to 60fps and do a little math in your head for the time-remapping stuff. And since obviously this might get tiresome after a while, file a feature request:

  • Program monitor constantly freezing/stalling when playing dynamically linked After Effects comps

I'm having program monitor issues when I try to play dynamically linked After Effects comps from my Premiere timeline. I realize it's expected to have jerky playback since After Effects comps are memory and CPU intense, but it doesn't seem normal for these things to happen:
Sometimes during playback, the program monitor completely freezes while audio continues to play and the CTI continues to move along timeline. When this happens, there's no way to stop the playback at all using mouse or keyboard... so I'm forced to just quit Premiere and re-open project.
Program monitor can also freeze when I place the CTI on top of the After Effects comp. Sometimes if I wait a minute, the screen could update and eventually display the After Effects comp.
I'm unable to render effects on the Premiere timeline because it just hangs at "Rendering frame 0" and never advances forward.
There's nothing special about the After Effects comp I'm linked to... it could just be regular text that I animated using ease keyframes and motion blur.
I originally thought it was related to GPU settings but it doesn't make a difference if I set After Effects to use CPU instead of GPU or set Premiere's Mercury Playback engine to software, CUDA, or openGL. I even have the latest CUDA drivers installed on my Mac. But I must mention that this issue got significanly worst after updating to OSX 10.9 Mavericks.
    Here's my system details:
    OSX 10.9 Mavericks
    Premiere 7.0.1 (105)
After Effects 12.0.1.7 (I installed the OS X Mavericks crash update fix)
The most prevalent error messages displayed in the OSX console is:
Adobe Premiere Pro CC[402]: dynamic_cast error 1: Both of the following type_info's should have public visibility.  At least one of them is hidden. N5dvaui2ui8MessageTIKNS0_7UI_NodeEEE, N5dvaui8controls23UI_PictureSupplyMessageE.
Here's a few that are less common:
    Adobe Premiere Pro CC[402]: [PremiereCocoaMacApplication handleMenuCommand:1633841013 from <DVAMacMenuItem: 0x6100002f8300 About Premiere Pro>]
After Effects[377]: -[NSMenu menuID]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x600000077080
If anybody has any ideas or suggestions, I would really appreciate it.
    Thanks,
    -Pete

I think I found the problem... OSX Mavericks introduced a power saving feature called App Nap that basically slows down an app that appears to be doing nothing or is minimized in the background.
So essentually when I try to display an After Effects dynamically linked comp via my Premiere timeline, it freezes because OSX put After Effects to sleep.
To fix this, I had to disable the App Nap feature on After Effects. Now everything is performing back at pre-Mavericks levels (which is about 10% stalling playback issues vs 90% stalling). I also noticed that all of the console errors went away.
To disable App Nap in OSX...
    Go to your Applications folder
Expand the After Effects CC folder
Right-click on "Adobe After Effects CC.app" and select Get Info
Add a checkmark beside "Prevent App Nap"
    Restart the application
I also did this with all my Adobe apps just to be safe.
    Hope this helps

  • Rendering After Effects Comps can be very slow

I have a PP CS6 project which has quite a few in-line After Effects comps in the main sequence.  The are all image stabilisation (for clips which are are of a different size of the sequence).  When I render then most of fairly quick (several frames a second) but some are very slow (a frame every few seconds).  The settings on the warp stabilise is the same for all of them.  It seems to be the longer clips that cause problems (sometimes over 30 secs). Anyone know why or got a way to speed up the longer clips?

    Welcome home, Mench!
To maintain the alpha channel from AE, the OP will want to look up how to be using two codecs, Animation and ProRes 4444. Both are extensively described in the help system for FCP and After Effects or just google them for several hours of interesting reading. The OP will also need to understand the concept of an alpha channel which, come to think of it, was difficult for me.

  • Adobe Media Encoder CC renders do not reflect changes to Dynamically Linked After Effects Comps

When rendering a Premiere timeline with a dynamically linked After Effects composition, Adobe Media Encoder will sometimes use an older version of the linked composition (even after I have saved changes in the After Effects comp).
For example, if I correct a spelling mistake on some text in After Effects, save the composition, and then add the sequence to the render queue in Premiere, the final output from media encoder still has the old spelling.
If I do a straight export from Premiere instead of adding to render queue, the output is always correct. I've noticed this problem on several different Windows 8.1 systems.
All versions of the software are up to date as of today.
Why is this? Is it something to do with the disk cache in After Effects? Does media encoder have it's own cache that I need to clear?

Hi, I've been having this same issue.  Here are some additional things I've noticed about it:
Changes are reflected properly when played back on timeline in Pr CC 2014.
Happens regardless if the dynamic link file was rendered or not, thus deleting the render files does not fix the issue.
The issue can persist through saving, closing, and reopening both AE and Pr.
I'm using OSX 10.9.4, so this is not just a PC issue.
Other than manually watching for every change to be reflected in the render, there is no way to know a problem has occurred.  Needless to say this can be incredibly costly.
Please address this quickly, it's completely unacceptable that what we render out could be a different version from what we see on the timeline.
PS Some additional things I will be testing:
Does the issue persist through closing all CC apps, including Media Encoder.
Does rendering directly out of Pr, i.e. not using Media Encoder, fix the issue.

  • Not able to render After Effects comp in Premiere CC Pro using Dynamic Link

I've noticed that I'm not able to completely render a After Effects comp inside a Premiere CC sequence. The render bar goes about half way and stays there. I found I have to quit After Effects for the render in Premiere to complete. Is this normal?
I'm running Mavricks on the new Mac Pro.

    It's not normal on Windows.

  • How can I sync up my clip in Premiere Pro with the After Effects Comp I replace it with? How do I link them?

I am having some issues seeing a tracked mask work correctly in Premiere Pro. I clicked on my clip in my Premiere pro project and hit "replace with after effects comp". After correctly masking out everything in AE and tracking it to perfection, I clicked save and went back to my Premiere project. However when I view the new "linked" clip in my project it has dropped frames. The mask seems to track correctly but the dropped frames are an issue. Does anyone know how I could fix this?
    Thanks,
    Ajnies

When I return to the linked clip in my Premiere project, it does not contain every single frame of the original after it has been replaced by the AE comp. It skips about every other frame. I am doing a stop motion animation so this is highly noticeable.

  • PPro CS4 crashes when importing After Effects comp

I am using Premiere Pro CS4 on Mac, when i try to import an after effects comp that uses the zaxwerks "flag" plugin, premier crashes...why?

Does this happen only when you use the plug-in, or for all comps?

  • Dynamically linked After Effects comps causing Premiere to freeze (after latest updates)

Normally in a dynamic link, any changes made in After Effects would be displayed in Premiere within a few seconds. However, after the latest software updates... it now takes 1-2 minutes and the Premiere interface is completely frozen during that time.
    Anybody else having similar issues?
    -Pete

Hi, thanks for the link but I'm having a different issue. My Premiere interface actually freezes and I'm unable to use Premiere for 1-2 minutes.
App Nap is disabled for all Adobe apps and I do frequenly empty my Adobe Media Cache and After Effects disk cache and it doesn't prevent the freezing.
Or sometimes just having a dynamically linked After Effects comp on the timeline slows Premiere down to the point where even scrolling through assets in my project panel is very jerky.

  • Error with "Replace wtih After Effects Comp"

When I use "Replace with After Effects Comp" on a clip in Premier CS5 (Mac), it sends the clip properly, I make my effect in AE (stabilize motion), save, then go back to premier and there is not change to the clip in premier (the change was clear and obvious in AE). In the lower right is a red circle wth an X -- clicking on it indicates "an unspecified error ocurred performaning an action" on the saved AE file.
The clip in Premier is marked red and indicates it is linked to the AE file, but the applied effect has not come through, it just looks like the original.
However, when I make other changes in AE, sich as adding text, no problem -- it updates in Premier.
What could be preventing "Replace with After Effects Comp" from workgin with AE stablizie image tracking files?
Using CS5 on a Mac (10.6.7) wiht the latest updater updates installed on all CS5 products)
    Really stuck here. Thanks!

Can I not render wihin AE and have the rendered clip automatically link into Premier?
This method should give you realtime playback of your Ae comp
in the Pr timeline, but you will still have to render first.
Use the "Post-Render Action" in the Ae render queue to import your
completed render into your Ae project, then drop it into your
composite as the top layer, solo that layer, then save and exit.
Open Pr, and you should be able to play the composite without
having to render the timeline... unless there is a deficit in the
horsepower of your rig as Jim suggested in an earlier post.

  • Can't apply transitions to After Effects comps in Premiere Pro

Hi people, newbie Premiere user here (my boss is trying to convert me from FCS) :-)  I downloaded the trial version of CS5 and want to learn as much as I can before my initial 30 days is up.  My initial experience has been pleasant, but I've come up against an obsticle I could sure use some help with.
    1)     Creating my timeline with serveral clips
    2)     Exporting certain clips to After Effects; 'Replace with After Effects composition'
    3)     Adding my effects
    4)     Back in Premiere Pro my clip is replaced by the comp.
    5)     Try to apply a simple cross-dissolve across 'Comp 01/Comp 02'
    PROBLEM!
Seems the transition will only snap to the start of the second comp.  With clips I can drag & drop the effect to span the clips and get perfect results, but not on an After Effects comp.
    6)     In Premiere Pro 'Effect controls' change parameter so that the transition centre is at 'cut'
The result indeed spans the clips, but the effect quality is terrible - decent fade from comp 01 to a sudden dip to black before fade-up on comp 02.
Yes, I understand the 'Layers' concept, but I'm not asking the software to do anything nonsensical, just a simple cross-fade across 2 comps.
I really would appreciate any advice anyone can offer, I'd really like to be converted (mainly because if I AM my boss has promised to buy me a licence when my 30 days are up!) :-)
    All the best
    Steve

To expand a bit on Colin's comments, back in the film days, the concept of Handles was easy to grasp, as the pieces of film were on an A and a B Roll, and the editor had to physically overlap them by the desired amount, so that the lab could print with a Dissolve. The same held for the days of A-B Roll digital editing, where the Clips were again physically overlapped on separate Tracks. Then, digital editors were developed that allowed one to edit with the Clips on a single Track, and where Transitions were applied between them. The Handles were necessary still, but were no longer visually obvious.
These images will tell you a bit more about the concept:

  • Making new after effects comp question

If i go to file>adobe dynamic link>new after effects comp is there anyway i can make the length of the comp depending on my in and out on the timeline i want or am i forced to have a standard automatic 30 seconds that it makes for me?

What is that suppose to mean?  I sent in a request to have this implimented as a feature in the next update, we'll see how that goes.  I understand that you can make the duration edit inside the composition setting, but why should i have to do that?  Doing this and then relining it up back in premiere wastes time.  I should be able to do it based on the In and Out on my timeline.

  • After Effects 50 fps footage

    Hello,
So I am SUPER new to anything After Effects but I am getting the hang of it, so if I don't know what your talking about just bare with me. Alright, so I shot some footage the other day on a Canon d3500 DSLR. I did not know that they shot on a higher frame rate, 50 fps. Now I am After Effects and I added some VFX to one clip and I am trying to render it out but everything I use either gives me the "Mismatched Settings" triangle/exclamation symbol at the bottom, no video and just the audio, or the video is slo-mo and the audio doesn't sync up because it's going normal speed. So what's the deal, what am I doing wrong. I checked all the settings and everything appears to be correct (again I have no clue what I am changing, I've been reading a lot about this in the last 24hrs but that's about it). All the settings say 50 fps and I assume that's what I want is for the settings to match my camera that I shot it on? Any way, any help would be greatly appreciated. I will add the details of my movie file in here just in case that helps. Cheers!
    Video
    Frame Width: 1920
    Frame Height: 1080

    Audio

Here are both of the settings you asked for. I will take a look at that link you sent, thank you. Let me know if you see something I could change to make it render.

  • Cannot render After Effects Comp to Quicktime, Lossless

    Hi,
I am trying to do a very simple test animation using Video Copilots Optical Flares, an imported PSD file for lettering and a JPG for a background image.
Below is the error I keep getting:
    And below are my settings:
I tried some other settings and the file would render but there would be a large green area as if it were an interlaced image. I turned field rendering off (then on, same thing)
I am using an 3.06 GHz iMac, with 4 GB RAM, and After Effects CS5.5.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Could be a file allocation problem, because your drive is too large. Some legacy CoDecs cannot deal with drives larger than 1TB, because their metrics are from an age where files could not be larger than a certain size and the math simply fails. Try rendering the same file to a smaller volume to test...

  • Can't Import after effects comp after update

After I update all the CC 2014 App , I found out that I can't import AE's comp into Sequence
the Comp  only shows in the Project window
    help me Plz!

It's possible that your firewall software is blocking the communication between After Effects and Adobe Media Encoder. See this page for a solution if that is the underlying problem:

  • Why can't I apply a cross dissolve between an after effects comp and black video in Premiere CS6

I imported a 20 second composition from AE CS6 into Premiere Pro CS6 and would like to apply a cross dissolve transition between it and the media on either end of the AE clip. However, every time I try to apply the cross dissolve, it only gets applied to the AE clip. I can't apply any transitions that straddle the AE composition and anything else. For example, I have a 5 second black video before the comp and a jpg graphic after the comp. I have tried to apply a cross dissolve to both ends, but the cross dissovle only gets placed on the AE comp no matter how I try to apply it.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

When you playback the Timeline, with the Cross-Dissolve applied to the AE Comp (on both ends), how do the Transitions playback?
